The vehicle was not driveable and I needed a rental car while the insurance company did their thing. The next morning, I made call after call to the rental agencies around the area, unable to find anything available. I was about to give up when I tried Mack's Auto Body. Jenene advised that she didn't have anything suitable at the moment, but she would make some calls. Within a few minutes she called back, she had located an SUV for me and would pick me up in about an hour! The only stipulation was that I needed to return the vehicle to their shop on my return trip. I was back on the road that afternoon, enjoying my vacation. When the time came for my return trip, I found that my insurance company had totalled my vehicle, so I needed Jenene's help. Once again, she was able to work some magic and found another car that I could use "one-way" back to Chicago without a huge repositioning fee! I had contacted other agencies and no one was as friendly, helpful or persistent as Jenene. The rental was through Hertz, but Mack's is a Hertz agency. Jenene is one of the owners at Mack's, so I'm sure this is an example of their business' culture overall. I can't say enough about the customer service ethos at Mack's!

The first place I went to help was Southside Auto Repair in nearby Deadwood, SD (See my very positive Yelp about them). After fixing an electrical issue, I was still concerned about my engine/transmission. Southside referred me to the Transmission Specialists. I went to the Transmission Specialists and their backlog of work was a week out. At the time, I did not want to wait, and sought out another mechanic to fix the issue quickly so I could be on my way. The new mechanic suggested a new transmission and over $5,000 in repairs, My friends, family, and social network advised me to run fast and far from them. (Beware of the Auto Doctor in Spearfish - I Yelped about them.) After sticker shock, and a good night's sleep, I called the Transmission Specialists and scheduled a diagnostic, a week and a 1/2 away, and stayed in a nearby camp ground for about $250 a week. When the day came, Brian test drove my motorhome, checked everything out, and suggested a few minor repairs (less than $500), and some of those could be delayed and performed by another shop. No new transmission, no rebuilt transmission, and no unnecessary repair bills. Thank you, thank you, thank you Transmission Specialists! As a side note, I noticed that progressive technical related-certifications, as well as thank you notes and acknowledgements from the community, graced the walls of the shop. Brian is a very upstanding, honest guy, and sincerely appreciate his knowledge and expertise. You also may wonder why I gave this shop 5 stars, since they made me wait over a week for service. Here is my philosophy on goods and services in general...You may have it good, inexpensive, or quick - pick 2, you don't get to have all three. The Transmission Specialists are good at what they do, and therefore have a wait list, they were also very cost-effective. I was fortunate to have the time to wait for the expertise.

We pulled into an RV park and began the search for someone who could work on the truck. Several local recommendations later we ended up calling Brian at Transmission Specialists. He was backed up with other customers but, since we were broke down while on vacation, agreed to look at the truck to see what he could do. We determined that a remanufactured transmission was the best course of action and Brian recommended two sources. We decided to order one. Took several days to arrive but when it did, Brian put us ahead of his other customers (again) and installed the tranny. We continued our trip to Georgia and returned home to Oregon. We stopped into Exhaust Pros to see if they might be able to squeeze us in, but they were fully booked and all their lifts were actively being used. They went above and beyond to find a shop that could get us in and that they felt they could recommend. They did not have to help, but they did and I am sure they would have done a great job if they had been able to.

A buddy rode back to Sundance to pick up a tractor battery from an auto parts store. Riding down Cleveland ST, he saw a sign for Woody's HD repair! They had a battery in stock, and he brought it to me and I was on my way. Unfortunately, 20 miles down the road, the battery and engine light came back on, and I knew I had an electrical issue and immediately pulled over. I knew I could not ride the 30 miles back to the shop, so I used the receipt and called Woody's. They sent a trailer and picked me up. Woody's was jammed as this was Sturgis Bike Week. They had correctly identified a burned out stator and had (1) in stock. 2 hours later, I was back on the road and the rest of my trip was without further mechanical issues. Erica, the shop manager and wife of the owner, was the nicest, most understanding person I have ever met. She was very reassuring that my bike was in good hands and would be fixed. The prices were very fair, and Justin, the owner and tech, was very capable. This is an OASIS in the middle of nowhere (as far as a broke down bike is concerned), and all of us felt lucky to be is such good hands. Another surprise was that Deluxe HD was also located across the street (new shop), but I much prefer Independent repair shops.

I called up here and spoke to Daniel, he was extremely informative, super nice, asked questions to make sure I was getting the correct type of tire for my drive style, and more. Daniel and Dwayne were both extremely nice, informative, and explained everything. They didn't try to push the most expensive or extra stuff I didn't need, exactly what I needed, recommended something else and I ended up getting it cause it would help my car in the long run. I got all 4 tires replaced and an alignment. Also they let me bring my dog which is huge for us cause he has horrible separation anxiety.
