boerower (sausage looking) with tap (the white thing look like mashed potato....but tap is is corn-based) and tomato chutney
    Ivon W.

Came here due to review and because I never try South African food. So four of us came by at 5. Place is quite small (good size, but I thought it'd be bigger than that). So it was good thing we came around that time (because the place is full shortly after). If you have big group, make reservation to be safe. There's paid parking nearby (the parking in front of the restaurant belongs to different store). Food was so good that we ordered 2nd round. 1st round: 1.braai platter for 1: boerewors, lamb chop, and chicken breast with dinner bread roll, and side dish of tap (some sort of mashed polenta) and tomato chutney. portion is enough for 1 person (not oversize like in typical restaurant). i eat it with one other person so we have space in tummy for 2nd round. all the meat is tender, and has a nice smokey-with-subtle-sweet flavor (the braai sauce). the meat is also good match with tomato chutney (the tomato chutney is refreshing! light taste and not too sweet/too soury..really yummy to pair it with plain dinner bread roll and the plain mashed polenta as well). 2.plan B gourmet burger. our dinner-mate love this (and i hardly hear her say that food is good whenever we went out. she doesnt react much when it comes to food). 2nd round: 1.fords burger: it has a nice spicy kick (because of the peri peri sauce).it has smoke beef strips (thin strip like bacon or sort of like tender beef jerky. flavor is so good, never have sth like that before). light and fluffy bun. 2.boerewor platter: love the dish #1 on round 1, so this time we order boerowers only. 3. wings in bbq smokey braai sauce. honestly, nth special. same sauce as the braai platter, but it's stronger/overpowering (which end up taste somewhat like regular bbq sauce from bottle). i like the braai sauce on the platter more. we all were very satisfied with the food. i'm looking forward to go back for different dish and dessert!(never try south african dessert!)

If you are in the west end of Toronto and looking to explore African food then you need to head over to Plan B. This family run restaurant offers delicious food from South Africa and is known for making hand made burgers, braai (grilled BBQ) and boerewors (sausage).  I tried the Mixed Braai (grilled) Platter for 1 (Boerewors, Lambchop or Steak, Chicken Breast, Bean Salad, and Pap & Tomato Chutney which was $26.00 (w/two sides) It is an easy going and humble place and you get a taste of South African culture right away as soon as you step in with the ambience and music. Everything is grilled to perfection and I enjoyed the flavours in the bean salad. I highly recommend a platter to try for the first time for variation. Also, the burgers are definitely something that I know I'll be going back for so stay tuned.  Located in the Kingsway Neighbourhood of Etobicoke, make sure to check out this family run restaurant if you are in the area.

My friend and I went at 8 pm on a Friday and It was very busy! I highly recommend making reservations in advance which we didn't know we could. The server Mo helping us was very nice and jotted our number down and said he would give us a call if any tables opened up. We went for some drinks and got the call about half an hour later. I am very glad we decided to wait. It was the best burgers I have ever had! The server suggested we get two different burgers to share. So we got the original joburg'er and the chicken burger. Both burgers were grilled to perfection. Meat was tasty, perfectly seasoned and juicy. unique flavours that complimented each other very well. The fries were perfectly deep fried and crispy. Will definitely be back to try their platters!

Okay you guys do NOT sleep on South African food, I mean it !!! Plan B is turning up the heat with their authentic South African eats. If you're like me a, newbie to South African food you're probably wondering what is boerewors and braii ?! Boerewors are a type of local farmer's South African sausage made up of meat and lots of spices to give it that flavour! And then braii is grilled meats which loosely translates as bbq. We got the Mixed Braai Platter for 2 with 2 large sides. It comes with Boerewors, Lamb Chops or Steak and Chicken Breast. We couldn't pick between the lamb or steak so we got one of each. Sides we got: - The pap and tomato chutney is the kind of porridge dish on the top right corner and was surprisingly my favourite! The texture was a bit more on the stiff side which I liked and the chutney was so tangy and complimented it so well - The chakalaka is on the top left and is sort of a vegetable relish that I also put basically on all of the meat and yes I did indeed RELISH it lol The meats were even more delicious than they look, the flavour was intense and trust me when I say I am salivating as I think about it again lol Overall this was literally a feast and beyond filling! You can definitely split this between more than 2 people or 2 people for a meal and then have leftovers for sure. This will definitely not be my last time eating their food, next time I will definitely give their handmade burgers a try! They are a local business that only opened up in April 2019 but definitely own up to their slogan as the best braii in town! Thank you Plan B for the delicious braii and friendly customer service! See you soon. Check them out y'all!

Ordered the bean soup and mixed Braai platter for two.

Food was really good, my favorite was the lamb which was cooked and seasoned very well. The service was attentive and very quick! Only change is I would've preferred the bean soup hot, but it still tasted good.

South African BBQ. What else do you need? We got the mixed Braai platter. Lamb chops, chicken and boersewors. Everything was amazing. Just go, and get the milk tart (made in house) for dessert. Service is top knotch and the staff are just about the loveliest people you could ever meet!

Amazing meal, even better service. I have been here twice now. The first time when provincial restrictions were in place, the staff took the time to explain the platters to me. The second time, I came with a group of friends and the staff took the time to explain the menu items. I would highly recommend this place if you like food cooked on a grill.

Cute little spot with a great homey feel. The food tasted like your favourite South African aunty whipped it up with love- and if you don't have a SA Aunty; just come here to pretend you do. The owner (?) seemed so happy to be sharing such great food with anyone who came in, and was so confident in what he was selling was just a great experience all around. The boyfriend and I shared a platter and we were both very satisfied !

Let me apologize beforehand if I get a little overenthused here. 5 stars for: The Concept: the only bona fide South African restaurant that has the right atmospheres, sights, and aroma of the food The Food: Authentic absolutely. May not taste exactly like home but it's still delicious and memory makes one think the food tasted better. The Owners: lovely couple very easy to talk to genuinely appreciate what you've done here The potential: Biltong, Vienna sausages, and other South African specialties are on the way the owners say! Lovely place and the owners are great. If you're a South African ex pat well worth a visit. Wish them all the success

So this place was suggested to us by a South African fiend of mine who recommended the place - as there are not many places in the city that serves South African cuisine .. I've had the Ethiopian Dorowat before - but this cuisine is quite different. We had ordered the Braai - which is like a mixed meat platter of South African BBQ meat - including chicken, lamb chops, and beef / lamb sausage (Boerewors). It had this really charred and smoked flavour which we really like - my son especially liked the coiled sausages (Boerewors). We ordered a meat platter for 3 along with two accompanying sides (Pap - which is like a polenta and tomato chutney, as well as chips - which is fries). I had ordered the food for take out, although next time we might sit and eat it at the location. I heard they play live South African music at night. For the quantity of food (see pic) it came to about $50 - which I thought was a bit pricy .. it was meant for 3 people. That would've been my only complaint, otherwise I would've given this place 5 stars - we really enjoyed the exotic flavours of the meat.

After a review on BlogTO I wanted to try South African food at this small burger joint. Although the place sells burgers, they also sell South African barbeque. The traditional sausage is called a Boerewors. Orders are taken at the cashier. I ordered the Miss B' Boerewors. You get two sausages in the bun and its covered in Apricot Chutney, tons of caramelized onions, raw onions, shredded cheese and lettuce. The sausage was delivered on a wooden plank, so the presentation was nice. The first thing I noticed was the texture of the sausage. It was soft (no snap), but it was good, more tender almost steak like. The sausage was great! The onions and Apricot Chutney all worked together. It was salty and sweet absolutely delicious. I can't wait to return and get the meat platter. I think the sausage would be great as a stand-alone and I want to try their lamb. The only knock on my meal was the cost. The sausage was 13 bucks by itself. It would be better if it came with fries or if they lowered the cost to the 8-10 range. For 13 dollars I could get a Sub which is more filling as the sausage alone left me still hungry. All in all, it's a great place and I do recommend everyone try it. The flavors were unique, delicious and I will return.

Beef Biltong supposed to be a South African delicacy with beef air dried instead of smoked to create that unique taste and texture... (and the addition seasoning of Peri Peri sure helps with the taste!) My friend at first was really skeptical... since the Beef Biltong in the fridge looks not too appetizing but after she start eating that, she could not stop!... Beef Biltong is something that you have to eat every single bites of it before you can stop, that is addictive! There are also bottles of condiments, sauces, seasonings that are all from South Africa... which is quite unique and you cannot find in a supermarket near you! It was with that search that I found there is limited supply of South African foods and basically no authentic restaurants available derived from that region. Btw, Moroccan and Ethiopian are not of that region. The same search of Peri Peri lead me to find South African specialties such as Boerwors(Farmer's Sausage) and Biltong(Cured Meat). While there might be a handful within the GTA and surrounding areas, this location is the closest and most convenient for me. This is not a large shop by any means as they do sales on their website but if you do come by, the friendly owner is there to greet you. Inside is a lightly African themed shop that consists mostly of Can, Dry, Package Goods. They are mostly unique as to your local Grocery Store probably will not stock the same items. Most noticeable was a Spillers Peri Peri Oil, the Freezer of Boerwors, Fridge of Biltongs, Mrs H. S. Ball's Chutneys, and a good selection of Candies and Chocolates. Florence Meats Peri Peri Biltong($6.50/100g) tasted like Jerky Beef except it's cut thin and against the grain with flakes of Peri Peri for flavour. As with any Jerky Beef it can get addiction as a snack and noted by a friend it tasted like Chinese Cured Meat.

It's located in a plaza with a bunch of box stores, as part of SmartCentres Etobicoke. My first two visits were Yelp experiences, which allowed me to sample a bunch of yummy food: - Spicy, garlicky kale caesar salad with lemon herb chicken - PERi chicken rainbow bowl - PERi mac - Naughty nata - Strawberry lemonade I loved everything that I ate. It's nice to shake things up. I either get chicken with a couple of sides or chicken wings. The caesar salad had a nice garlicky, spicy kick to it. Kale is generally tough and boring, but it was the opposite experience and was enjoyable to eat. The rainbow bowl was also awesome. I'd let to get it again and hope that the place has avocados. It ran out of them, but I got a grilled pineapple instead. So good! I love mac and cheese. The PERi mac has different spin on it. It's less cheesy than your traditional mac and cheese. It was offered as a side, but I'd love it as a main course. It's the crunchy topping that makes this mac perfect. I recently returned to get some more naughty natas (Portuguese egg tarts). This place makes yummy natas. I got a couple. The woman at the counter asked if I wanted them warmed up. I declined because I'd likely eat them on my way home. Well, she only had warmed-up ones. I said yes to them. They didn't have a chance. I devoured them well before I got home. Each nata has the best flaky exterior. The creamy custard was divine with a touch of sweetness. Delicious! My fountain drink experience was different. I paid for my drink during my first visit, to wash my food down. I went to get a drink from the fancy fountain machine. I first selected Fanta sugar-free grape. I got to hit the button once before all Fanta flavours were unavailable (all selections were greyed out). What horrible timing! I had dispensed more ice in my drink that I had expected, so I ended up getting more refills. My first drink was a mix of Fanta grape and Coke Zero lime. It was different... haha! I do like the Coke Zero line here. The flavours are excellent. My next refill was Coke Zero raspberry. Delicious! Before I left this restaurant, I did one final refill of Coke Zero cream soda. I love this machine and Coke Zero flavours that didn't shut down on me. I've paid with both credit and debit cards. I've never done cash because I rarely have some on me. You have the option to tip. The downside is the design of this plaza. If you are visiting businesses in this 427-North Queen Street corner, driving in is easy. Exiting is a nightmare. You basically have one lane to exit, where you are converging with another lane with customers who have shopped at larger box stores, such as Marshalls and PetSmart. After my first visit, I was trying to leave this plaza on a Saturday afternoon. It took me twenty minutes to finally drive away and get on with my day. On my recent visit last Saturday, I looked both ways before making a left turn. Out of nowhere, a car on my right was going way too fast. I slammed on my brakes. He apologized. It was odd and scary. Maybe I'll turn right next time and try a different, safer way to exit. Perhaps there will be stops signs or a speed limit sign posted the next time I'm here. (172)
