If you care about decent customer service, DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP at Planet Fitness, especially at the Slaughter location. If you are just into SOLO workouts on a very affordable monthly pricing, with no communication with the folks working at the front counter, and you're OK with being on a year commitment to a contract, then, PF is for you. On 03/25, I signed up for the PF Black Card membership (2 days ago from the day I write this review) and the first training class I signed up for, Stretching, on 03/26, did not happen. Apparently, the trainer was unaware than I signed up for this. After 15 minutes of waiting for him to appear at the front desk, he showed up with a look of annoyance and asked me to reschedule for the next day (03/27) at the specific time that he stated was his only availability, and behold, the very next day, the day of my rescheduled stretching class, I received an automatic system email informing me that both training classes I had signed up were abruptly cancelled with no explanation. I called PF customer service and inquired of the cancellation process. I was told that I am able to cancel within a 72 hour grace period with no penalty and full refund. I immediately drove to PF and requested to cancel my membership. There were two people at the front desk, one seemed like a new employee receiving training from the other employee. It wasn't until I spoke up and clarified that I was on a 72 hour grace period and expected a full refund that I was met with expressions of confusion. The manager was called to the front desk and finally took care of it. The online Twitter drama is not the reason PF is losing customers, they are doing it all on their own. read more

Waited at the counter for 10 minutes for someone to show up only to find out once again that they only have 1 working tanning booth and it is booked. Don't count on this "benefit" being readily available at Slaughter lane because that is rarely the case. Went in today Feb 18 at 9:30 to tan and EVERY tanning bed was down because of a wifi issue. I asked Aleyssa to cancel my membership and she did with the promise of no cancelation charges or fees. This is easily the worst ran fitness gym I have ever seen. I've been working out at this planet fitness for years and the facilities are pretty good in my opinion. They have a nice lineup of 3 or 4 smith machines in the corner which are my favorite, plus a large assortment of other individual machines. They have a fleet of treadmills, even at busy times I have never had to wait to use a treadmill. Lots of stationary bikes too, a full free weight area with several benches, and a timed exercise area where you can get in on a weight/machine in the circle and you go to the next one when the light changes. If you are the primary subscriber they give you tokens to use the fluid massage bed or the massage chairs too. Locker room is also spacious and reasonably clean; I have never used the shower though. Overall I think planet fitness has a good set up. I loved their prior $10/month full access subscriptions, it was a bummer when they raised the price but it's still a good gym. read more

This post centers around the issue of crime. To any individuals considering joining a new gym, I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST GETTING A MEMBERSHIP at Planet Fitness, particularly at this location. Similarly, for current members of this gym, I URGE YOU TO REASSESS YOUR MEMBERSHIP at Planet Fitness and specifically at this location. If there was a way to give zero or negative stars for Planet Fitness as a company and this particular location, I would give it without question. I've been a member at this Planet Fitness location for just three months. Up until this past Saturday, I've had a positive experience overall. However, on Saturday, I experienced theft on the premises. It's important to note that this theft wasn't carried out by another member or an Planet Fitness employee but by an external individual - and suspected criminal - who should never have had access beyond check in to members only space in the first place. This person trespassed onto the premises by slipping past Planet Fitness staff at the front entrance check-in in broad daylight during a non-busy day and time at the gym, as captured on security cameras and confirmed by the club manager. They entered the men's locker room, stole personal belongings in the form of a wallet and car key, and left undetected by the same staff responsible for enforcing security protocols to ensure only paying members have access to the gym floor and locker rooms. That day, I forgot to bring my lock to the locker room, which is something that can happen to anyone. There was a low number of people in the gym - as indicated by Planet Fitness's own app - and I decided to store my bag in a locker for a workout for this one-time occurrence. Other members have stored their belongings in similar ways. Upon my return, I discovered that my wallet and keychain, containing my car and house keys, had been stolen from my bag in the locker room. While my car remained untouched in the parking lot, the thief proceeded to make fraudulent purchases in the Menchaca Rd. area using my credit/debit cards. Fortunately, I quickly received alerts about the unauthorized transactions and promptly closed the compromised cards. That night, for the sake of safety and security, I had to re-key my entire home. Additionally, I'll need to re-key and re-program my vehicle because the suspected criminal now has access to a compromised key, which should never have fallen into their hands had they not been allowed entry into Planet Fitness in the first place. Following the incident, I filed a police report with the Austin Police Department. I included a photo of the suspect, provided by one of the businesses affected by the fraudulent spending. I reached out to Planet Fitness Global HQ to report the crime and to request cooperation with the APD's investigation. While a case number was assigned by member services for escalation, there has been no progress toward a suitable resolution at the global HQ level from the executive team. This lack of action and suitable remedy is astounding given that Planet Fitness had failed to uphold its agreement to ensure that only authorized individuals enter the gym premises. The club manager and Austin regional club manager have shifted all blame onto me via email. In response to the crime, the resulting psychological distress, and the subsequent financial burdens incurred, I was offered a mere three months of free membership, valued at $32.50 including tax. This offer fails to address the severity of the situation -- a crime that could have been prevented had Planet Fitness fulfilled its responsibility and prevented the unauthorized entry of a non-member whose sole intent was to trespass and commit further crimes. The cost of re-keying my home amounts to $180, while re-keying my car totals $1635. These consequential expenses highlight the inadequacy of the remedy offered (1.8% of the costs). I am still waiting for a suitable resolution regarding Planet Fitness's negligence in upholding security protocols leading to this crime - a major concern for customer and property safety. In the meantime, I cannot - in good faith or conscience - recommend Planet Fitness as a company or gym provider to any prospective future customer or current customer. It is a major risk to visit any Planet Fitness and they will not do anything to accept their responsibility in preventing crimes from being committed - even if it is entirely within their scope - or help in finding the appropriate solutions to restore member trust and confidence in their integrity at any level of the company's hierarchy. Please beware and please look elsewhere so you do not undergo the same resulting stress, denial of wrongdoing, and process of being cast aside as I have gone through with Planet Fitness and its embrace of incompetence leading to crimes - especially this one that was entirely within its control of being prevented. read more

EVERYONE, I mean everyone wipes down the machines, working out areas like clockwork. Very respectful individuals exercise here. There is absolutely NO judgment vibes coming from anyone, as well. I love that. FYI: we love the Assistant Manager. She helped us BIG TIME with fixing our old account. We are now indebted to her. I love this gym! I am only paying about 24 bucks a month for me and I can bring a guest for free. This is totally the place if you need a buddy to keep you accountable and go with you to work out. I like that there are plenty of tv monitors near the cardio area with local channels like ABC, NBC, CNN, etc. and you can hook into the audio of them with your earbuds. There are so many cardio machines, I've never had to wait for one. They have a variety of weight machines, too. The thing that makes this place stand out over other gyms is that they also have a watr massage chairs, regular massage chairs, and tanning booths. What? Yep, you read correctly. If you get the highest membership (which is what I have) you can use those, too. There is a time limit on them but it's still pretty cool. They keep the place fairly clean and have sprays and napkins for users to wipe down their machines when they are done with them. I also really appreciate that they emphasize that this is a no judgement zone...all people and all bodies are welcome! The people working here will help you figure a machine out if you don't know how to use one, too. I would not recommend this gym location. About a month ago, I accidentally left my headphones at the front desk. After searching for them at home for a week and a half without success, I tracked their last location and found out it was at Planet Fitness. When I called, the person on the line acknowledged that they had my headphones, which are valued at $500, and mentioned how expensive they were. After checking, however, she told me they were gone. I couldn't understand how that was possible if they were supposed to be in the lost and found. It seems likely that a staff member took them. A friend who works there informed me that employees were "calling dibs" on my headphones, which is incredibly frustrating considering they are my property. I also learned that the last person to handle them was the assistant manager, who plugged them in to charge and then found them missing upon returning. I have been coming here for over a month now. I am not a fan of Planet Fitness at all. So you ask, why do I still go here? Well my friends let me give you a brief background of me and my situation. I am a gym rat for over ten plus years. I developed a love for boxing and kickboxing and had an injury last year that meant I had to have surgery on my knee. Worst day ever for me. My knee surgery allowed me in January to go back to the gym but with limitations. I can only do certain cardio machines and lift weights. I decided to freeze my current gym membership at my gym to save a few bucks and also get more equipment at Planet Fitness to workout within my parameters. So what do I get? Pros: - a decent amount of equipment I can use within my physical limitations at the moment. They have elliptical, stair climbs, treadmills, and bikes. Not sure where they hide the row machines and or the arm bike machine (I don't know the technical name but it is the machine where you use pedals for your arms) - a comical routine to watch of people who have no clue how to use cardio or strength training equipment. You can youtube dumba$$ people at the gym to see what I am talking about -they are cheap AF Cons - why the hell does a gym have tootsie rolls everywhere? People will eat them and leave the wrappers EVERYWHERE. I found them in machines, near the AB/stretching mats, bathrooms and even in the parking lots. WTF?!?! - screw the lunk alarm. This alarm is set off when people grunt super loud when lifting weights. I vow to set that off before I leave the gym - Tanning. Who the hell still tans? Ummm..helllo... skin cancer anyone!?!! Horrible thing to promote...but wouldn't expect less in a gym that provides tootsie rolls to their patrons - Hmmm so lets add to the tootsie rolls....pizza and bagels. Awesome 24hr facility! I've been coming here for about a month now and the gym has been nothing but excellent. The staff is always friendly and helpful. $20/month for a Black Card lets me take in a guest anytime I want, 1/2 price drinks, and use any gym in the United States. Plus, Unlimited usage of the Massage Chairs & Hydro-bed. There are Rush Hour times when the place gets extremely busy almost too crowded (around 5pm) but other than that, it's pretty chill. I normally come in the morning before work, and the gym is always Spotless Clean. I wanna say it's probably only busy right now because it's the 1st month of the year, same stuff happens at the last gym I used to work out at. The poor schleps who haven't left their apartment in a year other than cracking the door for the Door Dash guy, who are just about now certifiably insane. I'm hardly an anti-mask-Trump-crowd-idiot, but being in the medical field am crystal clear that if two people are wearing surgical masks (and not inches away from each other), their chances of getting the virus are virtually nonexistent. Everytime I go, I feel like I'm comparing it to the Riverside location, which isn't necessarily fair. There are things that are better than riverside, and things that I don't like as much. Overall, it's still a Planet Fitness - plenty of cardio machines, 30 minute workout, tanning, massage beds, all for an affordable price. Better than riverside: More weights. There are more benches, more free weights, and more space for all of this. There's an actual bench press, which riverside doesn't have. They actually try to remind you that the 30 minute express is for circuit training only ( I don't like the layout though - the boxes are all in a square in the center of the different machines, making it kind of maze-like. Just stick with the most easily accessible box, otherwise you'll waste time trying to go by the numbers) Less creeps here. I primarily stopped going to the Riverside location because one time, a group of four guys was staring at me and another couple of girls while we were all working out in the same area. I am much uglier at the gym than I am in real life, I don't get it. I don't try to look cute at the gym. I want to slave away, with no social interaction, then I want to go home. At the Slaughter location, people seem to be more into their workouts than trying to meet (or stare at) people. There's a juice bar next door. I've been obsessed with green smoothies and juices for a while now, so it's great for right after a long workout. It's darker. I don't know why I like this, but I do. Not as good as riverside: It's not as spacious. I feel like everything is a bit more crammed together. Although the locker rooms have the same features as Riverside, they're not as new. They kind of feel like high school. The front deskers at Riverside are much friendlier. Not necessarily bad, just different. The ab/stretching section is a fraction of what you get at Riverside. Overall, I like both. Now that I've become more serious about weight training and am interested in more classes, I might outgrow Planet Fitness in general and look for a gym with something more to offer than smith machines and group fitness training, but for now, this is great for cardio and basic weight lifting. read more

I have belonged to other gyms and paid a lot of money each month to not go. I have the 20 dollar a month membership and have been about 20 times in the last month since I joined. I have yet to use the tanning beds (I am kind of pale, I could use SOME color) and I have a massage therapist at home so I don't need the chairs. It can be crowed but go when they aren't as crowded (the provided a little chart of when they are least and most crowded). I don't have a child so I don't have to worry about child care and if I want something to drink they have limited choices but they have water and that is what I drink and with my membership I get half off. The staff is always friendly and the there is always parking. A great gym for a beginner or an experienced gym goer. My husband won't join because he tends to drop weights and grunt because of the weight he lifts so he knows he would be kicked out pretty quick because of the "lunk" alarm. read more

I have been attempting to get a customer service member on the phone for over a month now to freeze my membership during the pandemic. I've waited on hold for over an hour when my" wait time is less than 10 minutes". I enter my number to have someone return my call and no one has returned my call...ever! The phone number for all locations is the same. I'm reading now that they require you to cancel membership in person or by certified mail. What?! I had to read this on Yelp because the customer service for Planet Fitness is non-existent by phone. Shame on you, PF! Gyms should be closed now anyway, what is wrong with you? I'm currently on hold with my bank trying to stop my automatic payments to the gym. They're not worth chancing Covid-19. ---------- I just got a call back!! As always, the safety of our team and members is our top priority, and we've been working hard to get ready to welcome you back and provide you with the clean, sanitary, and judgement free workout experience you love. We cannot wait to see you!" CDC guidelines urge states that they need a fourteen-day decline in COVID cases before considering opening businesses. On May 17, Texas had 1,800 new cases--marking the largest single-day increase the state has seen so far. And according to Planet Fitness, that means it's a great time to reopen their Texas locations! Every medical expert is saying the same thing, which is that a second wave is inevitable if we reopen too soon. Unfortunately, this location has chosen to listen to non-medical expert Greg Abbott rather than actual medical experts, because they do not care if we live or die as long as we get back on their crappy purple ellipticals right away. There is no way to offer a sanitary gym experience right now. You are misleading your customers into a false sense of safety. If you are not requiring masks inside the gym, it does *not* matter if you remove a couple of treadmills--people will be breathing heavily in an enclosed space. And simply asking people to stay home if they're having symptoms is B.S. We KNOW that it is possible for COVID patients to be contagious TWO WEEKS without showing symptoms. Putting the burden on individual customers to do the right thing is madness; people don't even wipe down the machines when there *isn't* a pandemic happening! There are plenty of tv's so you can watch tv while doing any exercise. At $21 you can use the tanning beds, massage chairs ( regular and hydro), bring guests, visit any location and buy drinks for less than $2 (50% off). I'm not one to rant but let me tell y'all... slaughter was my favorite location, it was always clean & running smoothly plus the staffs customer service was great. Now the place is always dirty with dust & hairs & the staff is always on their phones when I come in so there is no greeting. By the time I scan my barcode is when they notice me. 2 employees were having a full blown conversation in the stretching area. There was a small shaker bottle by them so one of them asked "is that your shaker bottle" "No! That's a baby bottle, I use a real mans shaker bottle" out loud (I heard it I'm sure the guy it belonged to heard it too since we were in the same area) & I didn't like that. I came in from out of town because of the hurricane and forgot my water and had no credit card on me and the manager on site was so nice to give me a bottled water. That was so nice & thoughtful. I thought Planet Fitness being terrible was just a meme. It's not just a meme. The whole gym is a sea of elliptical and useless machines. Maybe that's helpful to people who don't really want to work out, but for anyone even remotely serious, the lack of free weights is a problem. The main reason why this is such a bummer is that their membership is so cheap! It costs almost nothing but I was immediately disappointed by the subpar facilities. They have that bizarre tradition of serving pizza in the gym. Also the whole culture of "calling out" people who are working out too hard or whatever is insane.
