I want to share my experience as a long-time member of this gym. There is a male member who repeatedly engages in inappropriate behavior -- including rubbing his genitals on equipment and weights, getting uncomfortably close to women while they work out, and making unwanted advances (such as asking for my number and to "hang out"). I, along with other women, have reported this behavior to management on multiple occasions. Despite our complaints, this individual is still allowed to come to the gym. As a woman, this makes me feel unsafe and extremely uncomfortable every time I try to work out here. What's worse is that when I expressed how uncomfortable I was after seeing him there again, the general manager actually got upset with me instead of addressing the problem. It is very disappointing that the management has not taken stronger action to protect their members. A gym should be a safe and respectful environment for everyone, and unfortunately, that has not been my experience here. Now I'm left having to decide whether to cancel my membership altogether or travel farther every day just to work out somewhere I feel safe -- and even then, I'm forced to be on guard and try to avoid him. read more

I'd rate Gold's Gym on Slaughter a 3.7/5. I stopped in twice, once for a tour and once with a guest pass, and wasn't mad at my experience. For the most part, the gym seemed clean and not overly dated. It seems well run! It's a lower-mid tier gym so you'll notice some "nice to haves" missing. For example, cardio machines don't have TVs and some equipment looks a little older. That said, Gold's seems to have a bit of everything! The staff is engaging, the bathrooms are clean, there's a nice area to stretch, they offer workout classes, have a sauna, and even an outdoor green space (turf) with equipment and space to train. I'll keep touring around to see if I find a better fit, but I won't count this gym out just yet! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Gold's Gym has been nothing but a headache from start to finish. Their app is absolutely terrible--you can't even update your payment method. After my card was stolen, I tried to update my info, only to find out that their system won't let you, so they continued charging me. I called customer service to explain the situation and request a refund for the extra charge. The experience was awful--from the unhelpful staff at the actual gym to the rude and dismissive corporate support. Nobody seemed to care, and instead of helping, they made things more difficult. I finally asked to cancel my membership, and they had the nerve to try to charge me for another month literally 12 hours after their 30 day policy. Complete scam. Also the excuse from the GM, Moses, if I do it for you I have to do it for everyone. Not everyone is in the same situation I went through, no empathy! The gym itself is a mess. Machines are constantly out of order--only 3 out of the 5 StairMasters work (on a good day), and at least half of the leg machines are always broken. You're paying for equipment that's barely usable and a support system that doesn't exist. Do yourself a favor--don't waste your money or your time here. There are better gyms out there that actually maintain their equipment and treat their members with respect. read more

Karim Radwan has been my trainer for almost a year. Today I have officially lost 125lbs and he has helped me significantly tone and get stronger. I started training with him at another gym and followed him when he got a promotion to Gold's Gym. He has pushed me, taught me, and most importantly empowered me to be confident to work out on my own, as well. Out of all the gyms located in South Austin, the Gold's Gym on Slaughter is my preferred gym. The equipment is well managed, bathrooms, sauna room and locker rooms are clean and the gym-goers are (mostly) respectful. Like most gyms, there are plenty of cardio machines here. In addition to all the wonderful things I've already listed, what keeps me coming to this gym are the variety of machines for every body part. Could have a few more, but that's me being finnicky. Unfortunately, this gym, like all gyms, tends to get overcrowded after work hours. My advice would be to come in the morning or after lunch before 4. In addition to their indoor area, they have expanded to provide equipment outside to make it feel like a more boutique gym. NOTE: the equipment is older and squeakier since it has to endure all weather conditions being outside There are a multitude of classes offered, but I feel the classes are more novice. Lastly, there are a variety of tiered memberships, the basic running for $35, which gets you access to this gym location alone, and basic classes. Other memberships provide access into any location & higher tiered classes. read more

5:18 this morning and still no one to open the facility. Sigh. I do hope employees are OK and just late. Had to bail. To quote others, this gym has some faults. This morning was another. My list: **Music is WAY WAY too loud: I try to listen to the news in my ear pods and can't even hear it. I give up. Not sure about other times of the day but if you go at 5am before work, beware! For safety reasons, we should not have to wear huge headphones to block out noise. What if there was an emergency? Half the people wouldn't hear it. Maybe they are wearing full headphones because they like them, but I'd really tend to think it's due to drowning out the morning music level. I am SO glad to see another review here about the ridiculous music level!!! **Leg Extension/Leg Crunch Machines: Certainly not enough of these (only one each as far as I know) and people are always, always waiting for them. One is actually down right now, going on a week. **For the size of the gym, the stretching area was designed way too small. This gym is pretty darn big and holds a lot of folks. This area is just too small. I've had to wait for it myself, especially in early mornings. **TVs: To quote someone else there are no TVs at the individual machines, so you're forced to watch whatever they have on. Having Direct TV on your phone won't help because you won't be able to hear it. Sigh. Overall. I do like this gym and its location, but based on the above, it's NOT my first choice. read more

THE BIG: New Golds Gym addition to the Austin Golds Gym network that was built in 2021. Tons of parking outside and right off of Slaughter Lane. Big and spacious with outdoor turf area for those outdoor workout enthusiasts. THE BLACK AND WHITE: When I first came to this gym, I was wondering where was all the infrastructure. It looked like an undeveloped plot of land. The Golds Gym appeared and it looked brand spanking new...and it was. They have a ton of fitness classes. I generally go for the Golds Fit class on Sundays. Great instructors and people to workout with. All the equipment are new and the kicker is the outdoor turf workout area. I wish all Golds Gym were retrofitted to have this. You also have your yoga studio, bike class, limited squat racks, however the dumbbells seem to go on forever. Big stretching area, and locker rooms are designed with a modern touch. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Great new gym that is a welcome addition to the Austin Golds Gym network. ~$30 for solo gym access while $40 for network gym access. read more

Me, my girlfriend and her friends have been going to this gym for a long time, Over the past 2 years there has been a man who consistently follows them around and blatantly begins touching himself inappropriately. He not only touches himself, but rubs himself on gym equipment and machines while standing 2-3 feet from them. He does this with them, amongst many other female members of the gym. My girlfriend and her friends have voiced this to management numerous times, and they have done nothing about it. They even went as far as to take a picture of the man doing it for proof, and management responded by writing her up for "taking pictures of other gym members without their consent." Since management is refusing to respond to this issue, all we can do is warn others and try and get this issue up to corporate so they can intervene. Asked management to turn down music. Did a noise meter at sound at 110 decibels (dB) which very loud noise that is dangerous to your hearing and can cause damage with even brief exposure. They told me they have no control over volume at the gym. Which is a bunch BS. At even hear someone talking to me standing right next to me. Going to start a class action lawsuit for hearing loss because of there loud music. Go to your lawyer and fill against them if you experienced any hearing loss going there. read more

This is a newly-built gold's gym and requires a premium membership. All the equipment is new and they do have a lot of cardio studios and group classes that are focused on high intensity training and CrossFit style workouts. The equipment is all brand new and very adequate for what you will need but they are definitely crowded at peak hours like most gold's gyms. read more

This is a fairly new Gold's Gym location, and I love it! The staff always greets you with a smile & a hello. The facility is immaculate, and they always maintain it that way. I've been there at different hours, and I've never had a problem finding a machine to use, or signing up for a group class. That's my favorite part of the gym, the group classes! I live down the street and needed a close gym, so we popped in for a free day to check it out. For the price, I don't see why everyone reviews it so low. It has everything I need, the equipment works, and it's immaculately clean. Also, I just want to mention...Luis, the cleaning guy, is a ray of sunshine. He's ALWAYS there, it seems like, and he's always hustling. I go with two friends M-F and he remembers our names, calls us the Three Musketeers, and always makes a point to come by, crack a joke, and see how we are. Plus, I don't think I've ever seen the sanitizer and paper towel dispenser empty. I don't know how he does it... read more

This is a wannabe Equinox meets Planet Fitness. Overcrowded and hard to get a workout in. Equipment is mostly new and feels like it was hand-selected by a corporate exec who works out on a Peloton at home. Very common to see rows of unused treadmills and ellipticals while lines form for one of their five stepmills. Consider yourself lucky if all of them are working. Can't stress this enough: the gym is ALWAYS busy. There are no slow times before sundown. Want a bench? Good luck. Someone's camped out or filming on it. Power racks are even worse. Ever since "leg day" became a meme it's almost impossible to secure any piece of lower body equipment. That goes triple for this location. It's 80% stuff that no one has any interest in but looks nice and 20% of equipment that everyone gravitates to that you may as well have to make an appointment for. This gym would function better if it operated like the DMV tbh. The staff dgaf and is sorely missing the power they were granted to enforce Covid protocols and have pivoted to a "no bags on the gym floor" policy that is arbitrarily enforced when they're bored or need a dopamine boost from harassing members. All under the guise of safety, of course. Apparently inconveniencing and policing your base is the pinnacle of customer service. Be careful when signing up. They advertise no hidden fees. That's a lie. I am not disgruntled. I'm not picking on this gym. It's just incredibly frustrating how this location likes to tout itself as the most popular in Austin and then does absolutely eff-all to adapt to the traffic and accommodate its members. In that regard, it's a microcosm of Austin itself -- self-congratulatory, packed with dilettantes, and infrastructurally deficient. Even the cell phone service is a blackhole. There's a shiny new gym 5 minutes from my house! I used to go to Gold's years ago, I even got a little nostalgic doing Body Pump today cause I used to go with my coworkers at lunch in the mid-2000s. I've pretty much done all the major gyms (24 Hr, Lifetime, Gold's, and Planet Fitness). I generally like to take classes as they give me a good framework, schedule, and accountability, then on non-class days, or before or after class, I might hit the cardio machines or some weights and the stretching area. Though I took weightlifting in college, (you know, gotta get those Phys Ed credits!), I do have a little gym-intimidation, so classes also help with that: you'll never be the least fit person in there... until you are, like I was today. Man, that squat track was long! I had to stand there waiting for the song to end or my heart to slow down (spoiler: song ended first). Anyway, the trainer was very nice and said I did a great job and she hopes she sees me Thursday. I'm on a 3-day free trial but I'll probably sign up. I usually quit gyms because they change the class schedules or cut them way back. This location offers a month to month plan for a $40 higher enrollment plan, so I'll probably do that, I hate feeling trapped by a contract! The monthly fee is $29.99 for the most minimal plan (plus taxes I'm sure) but that's only a few more bucks than my PF Black membership. More about amenities: there's a sauna in the locker room that I would have tried out if I wasn't already dying. And they have nice big lockers and hair dryers. You have to bring your own lock, they don't even have the little day lockers with the combo locks in them. Also, I like the locker rooms are behind the cardio stuff-- at the 24 Hr I used to go to, you had to cross through the middle of the weights to get to them (so annoying). They have an outdoor area, I guess so you can feel like you're working out in a prison yard (?), and tons of bands, foam rollers, etc. The class schedule is a little light right now, but I've been told they will be adding more classes. And this Gold's offers some premium classes too (if you pay the premium price). Even though it's a small gym, I like that, Lifetime and even 24Hr were huge. Yes, maybe not for someone dedicated to free weights and expecting a lot of courtesy from other gym members, but 4 stars for someone like me. read more

Were it possible to give negative stars, I would. Where to begin... This review isn't about the gym's amenities, per se. Or even about this particular gym. My preferred location was the one on William Cannon and IH 35. That location was grittier, roomier, and felt more like a place where a person could throw weight around without judgment and train with intensity. This new location was always really bougie and felt more like a "fitness center" than a gym. But I digress... I began social distancing on the 13th of March. I follow the news closely and thought it best to refrain from the gym. While I had been there a few days before attempting to be hyper-vigilant and wipe everything down a million times, I decided staying home and training with dumbbells made more sense as I live with my 5 year old son and 65 year old mother who has hypertension and had surgery for an unruptured aneurysm. Three days later all Gold's Gym locations in Texas closed. At that point no statement was made about payment freezes. Twelve days later on the 28th, Gold's Gym sent out an email informing members that membership dues at company-owned (but not franchise) gyms would be frozen on the 24th. I trained at a company-owned gym, I was charged on the 25th, and according to the member page, was going to be charged again on the 25th of April. I Tweeted at Gold's and their CEO, and was eventually blocked by their accounts (likely because I would respond to other posters and advise them to do as I had done, and contact their Congressional reps, state consumer protection bureaus, news media, and if it was within their reach, an attorney. Eventually I was contacted by someone on IG, and I insisted on getting a name, because I don't know anyone who engages in customer concerns about financial transactions with nameless, faceless entities. I always get a name and title and make note of the time of any interactions. Eventually, I did indeed get a name. And, I got my money back and a cancellation of my membership. So, though their email claims refunds can't be handled until gyms re-open, that is false. This global pandemic is revealing a lot about people, and it's also revealing a lot about our purported corporate "citizens". Any company that would take money away from people during a time of mass firings, housing insecurity, and uncertainty, does not deserve your time, much less your money. Look at Gold's Gym's social media (if you're not blocked like I am), and you'll see post after post of people asking why they're being charged for a gym they can't use. And the response from Gold's Gym? Silence. I love to train. It's hard being away from heavy weight. My I refuse to give what little money I have to a company exhibiting such poor professionalism and engaging in base behavior for the sake of profits. If you can, train locally. Austin is full of very fine local gyms. If not, choose a different chain, because this one has shown its true colors, and they're ugly. read more

If you want to be harassed every time you checked in at the front then come by, missed my payment the 11th. I walked in today just to be confronted by management about updating my info. Don't I have 3-4 days for a late payment? Don't they have girls to be hovering over in and off the clock as I see on the daily from this staff. & even with my payment updated. So about 15 months later nothing has improved and in fact things have even gotten worse. People hogging machines while scrolling through their phones obliviously is still a problem. And gym etiquette is pretty much non-existent. Specifically I had an incident with a young male who screamed vile profanities at me because I had the nerve to move his phone off one of the two machines he was monopolizing on a busy afternoon. Did management ask him to leave? No, of course not. I only finally got a response when I submitted a detailed complaint that made it clear that his actions were bordering on criminal. So I went in today to cancel my membership. I spoke to a very nice woman at the front desk explaining why I wanted to cancel and she told me that there had been a change in management and that she would bring the new manager over to hear my concerns. So I waited and guess what? He couldn't be bothered so I filled out the cancellation form and left. This location needs to remember the names President's Health Club and 24-hour Fitness, two chains that used to be thriving but went bankrupt thanks to poor management. read more

Just went to this gym today, and it nice and clean and new, but had some glaring issues. 1. The "bag rule". Oh wait. The "NO bag rule" more precisely. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I just got done working out in the PINNACLE of gyms before this one, meaning, THE GOLDS GYM IN VENICE CALIFORNIA where Arnie, Franco (R.I.P.), Ronnie, Cutler etc etc train all the time and guess what? Everyone brings in a bag! Why? Because where else do you put your protein powder, your blender bottle, your water gallon, your weight belt, wrist wraps, grip chalk, lifting shoes, and so on- all of which are very necessary for a serious workout. It's even more insulting because there is an image of the original golds in Santa Monica above the dumbbell rack here, and this location has no idea that it's acting more like a planet fitness with a ridiculous rule like this. 2.They must have had the AC running on 74 or something, which, yeah I'm here to workout and break a sweat, but when a gym is busy all the bodies around make it muggy and quite nasty. And there's some gyms where that's fine and even expected - I've been in old school gyms where the AC barely works and there's just crappy ceiling fans or box fans, but I expect more from a brand new Gold's Gym! I've seen some people say the management is rude and luckily that wasn't my experience, he calmly told me to either put my bag in a locker or in the car, but I just decided to leave after I finished my set. I'll drive to a northern location or even to San Marcos instead. read more

Christi especially, she is always smiling and greeting members asking about their workout and making members feel seen. I'm not sure why this gym has such bad reviews. I've only been a member for a few weeks, but I really like this gym so far. I've been a part of LA fitness & Equinox in the past. This is my first time at Golds. Pros: - Value (it's very affordable) $25/mo + $15/mo (studio membership) for a regular gym, these prices are very good! The studio membership is so adorable and it's unlimited. They have great classes . - Machines and equipment: they have plenty of different cable machines, squat bars, and even an outdoor area -It's also clean and fairly new Cons: - It does get crowded and you can be fighting for machines - Lots of very intense fitness people workout here. read more

A team member named Jennifer made sure to stop me in the middle of my workout to tell me that my backpack wasn't allowed because it wasnt a string backpack and to take it to the locker room or to put it in my car, she went on to say it was a liability because someone could take my personal belongings but that if it were a string backpack instead that it would be allowed (which doesn't make any sense at all). When I asked her if this was policy for every golds she said that every golds has its own rules. Either way she could've waited till the end of my workout to let me know instead. I've been coming to this gym for a little over a month now and not one person has said anything to me about my backpack. All in all I'd recommend the golds on William cannon over this newer one everyday. read more

Squat rack, bench press, or a bench of any kind. Might have to wait a hour or more before one becomes available. Very limit squat racks and bench press and people are doing circuit training. Doing two other machines will people waiting to use the equipment. It has gotten so bad. One than once had to wait over a hour for a bench or squat rack due to people doing circuit training using the equipment. The will do one set of squat or bench and leave for 10 to 15 minutes to do another machine. read more

This gym is slammed all of the time and it seems like the only precautions they're taking to prevent the COVID spread at this point is "making" people wear masks. For that reason, I froze my account months ago. I received no notification that my freeze was ending and got charged for a new month. Okay, poor customer experience but I will just have to eat that charge. I then made the decision to cancel my membership since I don't enjoy working out there or feel safe at this time. I was then told (because I was 3 days too late) that I'm stuck with a membership for the next two months as well as another payment in between. I was told, "that's just our standard policy". I think it's pretty ridiculous that you would charge someone for two more months of a membership that won't be used when it's due to safety reasons. While I understand that there are "standard policies" and the business needs to make money, I believe that a global pandemic has created a reason to adjust some of those policies and work with people. If you won't, then you should at least create a safe and comfortable environment for your members. Before the pandemic, the gym was good enough. Nothing special besides for having new (mediocre) equipment and being conveniently located. read more

This is actually one of the nicest Golds I've been a member of. The equipment is in good condition and the facility is well designed. The problem I have, along with others I've talked to, is the facilities bicycle studio. Why do they have to have their music so loud? Seriously, they turn the music as loud as can be, it shacks the gym and you can hear the instructor yelling from outside. Even with my ear buds turned all the way up, I can barely hear my music. Half the time there is only two or three people in there and for an hour we have to deal with that ridiculous yelling and bass. Its a shame cause I've had to tell so many people in my neighborhood to avoid this gym just because of the cycle studio. What's funny is that Ive asked the staff about it and they have all said that people complain about it all the time. Seriously, LA Fitness is right up the street and there's another Golds on William Cannon, go there and avoid the bicyclists. read more

The gym was useful when I was a member. Plenty of machines and perks; however the sauna was ALWAYS broken. At one point it was broken for 2.5 months. At that time I was moving and canceled my membership. Back in July of 2023. Not before they spent 20+ minutes of my time trying to talk me into staying. No matter what reason I gave they kept pushing me to stay or place my account on hold even offering me a cheaper membership. I expressed to them the price wasn't the issue I just wanted to cancel and go elsewhere not for any reason other then wanting a change of routine. Next thing I know I'm being called every SINGLE DAY sometimes 3 times a day and blowing me up with emails. They kept charging my account and after I spoke with a representative they apologized and said "we will make a note on this account" I assumed that meant they would stop. It didn't and they kept charging me. So finally I called and made a complaint and canceled my card. Since then they have still continuously called and emailed. This point I ignored them almost changed my number so it would stop. They sent me notifications saying I owed them money so once again I spoke with someone at the desk informing them I already canceled months ago "they apologized once again" and stated they had no record to indicate I canceled and that I would need to go into the location I originally signed with to go through the process once more. Unfortunately this ticked me off as I was dealing with a family member in the ICU and had no time on my hands to drive all the way to Austin to do this again. I informed them of this while it was clear I was pissed with them and their ignorance. Now I get an email stating they contacted a lawyer to collect a balance of $148. I will NEVER go back to golds as I'm overwhelmed and exhausted with their lack of customer care and duties. This should not have happened especially on more then one occasion. read more

WARNING - DO NOT COME HERE!!!! The General Manager and Membership Manager have no idea how to run a facility nor do they know how to do their own jobs. They have embarrassed my friend and I, by removing us from the gym because we were talking about exercises. My friend and I are certified personal trainers. We weren't training anyone in the gym, nor would I ever do that. From my understanding we can use any open gym facility such as Gold's to meet up and go through different movement patterns. As long as we aren't not personal training or coaching someone in the facility "Outside Training" as it is called. The general manager pulled me aside to inform me that outside trainers cannot train other people in their gym if they are not employed by Gold's. I let her know that we are both personal trainers, and we are here to work on movement patterns together. So you're telling me two people can't go workout together and talk about the movements as professionals? Seems like that is what the gym is for. We were not using any equipment either. She left and we went back to working on movement patterns together. About 10 minutes later a boy by the name of Moses Rodriquez (Membership Service Manager) and another boy named Harrison Parr approached us. They were shaken up, nervous, trembling hands, and making no sense what so ever! I asked them to show me the regulation/supplement I signed that said this was not allowed in Gold's gym. Five minutes later they come back with a piece a paper with a paragraphs on it. He starts reading the paragraph about personal training in their gym. Again no where did it say we couldn't work on movements together and talk about them. I asked to read the paper and he hid it behind his back and said "this is corporate document, you can't see this". He then ripped it up. We were not personal training in the gym. We were coming to learn more about movements and helping each other grow. That is what a gym is for. After he was very disrespectful with me, he asked me to leave because he couldn't handle the conversation because he knew he was wrong. You do NOT treat any members the way these employees treated my friend and I. Very embarrassing. We went off their property, on a sidewalk that is next to a sandwich shop to finish up where we left off. 10 Minutes go by and here come two police officers to tell us that the boy (Moses Rodriquez) is saying we are not allowed to trespass onto Gold's property or we would be arrested. We have the whole things on video by the way which will be sent in. As soon as the officers approached us, he said they were told that we were coaching other people in the gym, which again is not true. I said no sir, we are both personal trainers working on each others movement patterns and explained exactly what we were doing. He told us if we were to trespass on the property, we would be arrested. I told him to escort us back on the property (since we were off, by the Schlotzsky's) so I could get my car. Which they did and I was on my merry way! Huge waste of taxpayer resources to have two police officers come out for this situation. Please shut this place down! Cancel your memberships. I was told by my employer that I could get a discount at golds gym as their employee. I called to ask about this and they told me to come in. I came in and the manager told me that because my current rate of $27 was already good, that he couldn't do anything for me. I asked him politely if there's anything else he could do for me and he said you can have one hour of personal training. That was almost a slap in the face because I knew he was offering me the free session that I had never used when I joined originally. Not only was the employee benefit that was agreed upon by then with my employer false advertising, but the manager is sneaky as hell by trying to give me something that is already included with everyone's membership. No wonder their rating is so low. read more

So the reason I am giving this place 3 stars, is simply because it gets so crowded. If you go between 7 and 2, it's not too bad. The traffic surrounded the gym is super congested, but it's not Gold's fault. All that being said, I love the fact this gym is so clean, and everything is new. Classes are good and the staff is super friendly. read more

Everything is great but the management. Manager is extremely anal about gym "rules" constantly interrupting people mid workout for minuscule things. This isn't a daycare, we aren't children. read more

This Gold's Gym is nice and situated in a great area. The problem is that it's too small to accommodate a large number of people. No matter what time of day you go, this gym is packed. Can rarely get a dumbbell, adjustable bench or squat platform rack. You're always having to move out of someone's way because it's too cramped. Other than that, the gym is good. read more

Not sure what the fuss is with the other reviewers but I've never had an issue with a machine unavailable or the gym being too crowded. It's clean and the saunas are separated (men and women saunas). It's a perfect gym for the price point. read more

Been to every gold's south of downtown and this one was the most claustrophobic / disorganized. It was probably the cleanest though.
