Love the gym, and the staff is very friendly, but I've become very frustrated with the fact they don't repair broken equipment. During peak hours we're all fighting over the single leg extension machine that's available. I've been a member for about a year now, and it's broken this entire time. That's just one example of the machines not being attended to. As member it's frustrating because my dues are paid. This Planet Fitness is larger than your typical neighborhood location and noticeably cleaner--especially when compared to others like the Fontana, CA branch. At the very least, there's no trash on the floor, which is a plus. That said, it's a very busy location, even during midday hours, so expect a crowd. The lockers could use some maintenance; several are broken or damaged which can create a sense of insecurity for members trying to store their belongings. Some issues have arisen since Henry has been manager at the Niles Street location: The latest was on December 24, 2022, my bike tires and tubes were viciously slashed in front of the gym window and nobody blinked an eye about it. When I discussed this with Henry on December 26, 2022, he said that only the sheriff's department, which I have a case, could only look at the video. (The sheriff still has not proceeded my case.) He was very rude discussing this with me saying there is nothing that he could do. I told him that this vicious slashing was a threat on all members being it was right in front of the gym window. I told him that people hear about this, that all good people will not want to join this gym and it will be left with gang bangers. And yet I am the biggest advocate for East Bakersfield. Three weeks later, my membership was cancelled because of policy violation. I looked online at the PF code of ethics and I found no such violation. Patience C. had the same issue on a review. I discussed this with the district manager, Erin, on February 1, 2023. She said this was from management above her due to my use of camera in policy violation. I told her that no such thing ever happened and that she should pull the video on it. She said there is nothing that she can do. I wrote to corporate right after, and they never responded. I am an original member of the Niles St gym for 4 1/2 years and have been a constant member of gyms for 40+ years. I never had a problem at all with the other gyms. I joined the PF on Niles St because it was closest to my house, and because of my needing to work out more often because of chronic nerve damage, it would motivate me to get to the gym more often. read more

I have to say that I have been a member of this franchise for many years and i have never had any problems until i moved here to Bakersfield, especially at the California and Ashe clubs. I was literally kicked out of the Ashe club and then later my membership was suspended by the GM and i believe her name was Aliya, because she said my attitude wasn't right when i asked her if she was going to keep interrupting me as i was trying to explain to her about an issue with my membership. At the California club after applying for a graveyard shift, and i was told they were looking, I was later told they are looking to hire, and i quote, "female employees or Hispanics". At all of the clubs there is no diversity in the employment, and they call themselves a "Judgment Free Zone"! Yet i was judged on my attitude and they post items such as "Lunk Zone". My workout partner was approached for making too much noise. I have even read a post by Phillip U. on 3/31/23 making a comment about it. yet they have certain individuals who practically yell on the cardio equipment during their conversations. Sounds like judgment to me! This is by far the most hypocritical franchise I have ever experienced in my life in the fitness industry. And one last thing. They refuse to give you corporate information. When you do get a number, it is some woman working from home who says she will start an "escalation report" and they never follow up! read more

This facility runs out of paper towels and sprays without refilling them promptly. Their water fountain recently went out of service for at least a week. Instead of going out of their way and making exceptions to help their patrons, the manager emphasized barriers "no cash", and made lazy excuses "we already called, we can't do anything else." They even ran out of bottled water! Sure we can and should carry our own water, but a gym without drinking water for this long is unacceptable. They only had 2 or 3 mats for months. read more

The staff is always so nice and always greet me with a smile, one of the receptionist named Alex even bought me a Gatorade when I was low on money, little did she know I was having a bad day and she turned my day around! read more

At about 10:30 pm on 3/31/23, there was a group loudly screaming, grunting, and slamming weights on two smith machines while doing dead lifts and bench press. The two staffers working that night stood at the front desk looking at the group and laughing every time they slammed the weights. Nothing was done about it. Really disturbing to other members. Where do I start! I couldn't believe how nice the staff was! I felt so welcomed & appreciated as a member of the gym. The cleanliness was out of this world & I have OCD! The bathrooms were fully stocked, smelled great & the rest of the gym was equipped with supplies to wipe down the machines (which were very clean as well). I am flabbergasted that this gym has anything less than 5 stars. Huge thanks to Henry, Alex, and the rest of the staff for providing such an inviting place to workout at! In addition, definitely go with the black card membership to have access to that Hydro bed that makes my back tingle with joy and relaxes me after a hard workout. read more

I'm at the gym with my 13 year old daughter when a show called beyond the pole comes on in channel 3 near by where we are doing cardio. The show is about almost naked women sexually dancing on poles at strip clubs. I was so offended because not only my child is here but other young kids exposed to this filth. Its bad. I mean I thought this was a family gym why wouldn't they be mindful of what type of shows they show on t.v. I told the 2 people in the front desk what my concern is, but first asked for their manager. They appreciated my concern and said they would tell the manager. The problem is the show is still going in and there are other young people here still at the gym. It just makes the moral of the gym bad and if it continues I will no longer be coming to this gym and exposing my child to filth. They said they would change the channel by tomorrow. Don't fall for their $1 sign up they will close and reopen and charge you monthly fees. They will also charge you a yearly fee while they are closed or right when they reopen $39.99, the employees and especially management are extremely rude. They don't care about your health their they never clean the machines and the disinfectant is always out, or watered down spray bottles. The employees don't tell anything to groups together with no masks inside the gym. You get what you pay for and I left back to InShape. read more

I've been to all the planet fitnesses in Bakersfield and this is my favorite one to visit!!! I usually go at the night time cause of work during the day. This gym is fantastic! I joined just a month ago and I've already dropped 10 lbs. The vibe is positive and upbeat! The staff is great as well. They keep this gym spotless! Henry is an awesome manager. His staff is all great and Brittney always addresses me with a big smile and she's awesome too! Henry has done a great job hiring a great staff! usually the staff is cool but I went in recently to upgrade my membership so I could bring in my nephew as a guest, the staff member assisting me started being rude as if I asked something unimaginable and when I asked more questions trying to understand what I needed to bring in so that he qualified, my inquiries were met with attitude. read more

Very clean, empty when I go which is mornings and all around a nice small gym no complaints.

I love the convenience of having this gym close to me but they are constantly without paper towel so throughout the gym to wipe down and sanitize the equipment. I would think with the pandemic this would be priority. I want to continue my workout here I just wish they'd stay on top of it. read more

This is the worst gym to go to I went to this gym and went to the smith machine to deadlift I had on the machine 2 plates on both sides and was deadlifting for warmups. I was then approached by a worker who told me not to slam my weights. I wasn't even slamming them my max deadlift is 5 plates so I know how to control the weight for 2 plates I informed the guy I didn't slam it but I'll be careful I then turn around to see the whole entire staff at the desk staring at me for a solid 5 minutes then I approached them and asked if I did something wrong Henry the owner of this location then told me if I can't handle that weight to not even try it when I was using it to warm up he then threatened to use the lunk alarm. Then I tried to tell him I'm not slamming weights that when people use heavy weights on the smith machine it makes a loud noise naturally. So after this I then headed back to my station and decided to not deadlift anymore I then tried to do upright rows on the smith machine and as I hooked the hooks on the machine Henry decided to charge me in my face and yell at me to get the f*ck out of his gym that I completely ignored his warning and I needed to get the f*ck outta his gym. He then said he was canceling my membership. And flipped me off as I walked out. I have been a member at planet fitness for a while now at the California location I only went to Nile's because it was down the street from my mothers grave sight and I went to the Nile's gym to work off some sadness in all my years in this gym I have never ever been treated so rudely and been so hurt in all my life but it's ok for Henry to get away with this. This is an abomination and I am horrified that this is the way they allow their associates to run a business I promise you I will not be returning to that gym ever again and I ask you all to read this and change this location and call Henry to be accountable for his actions! So unbelievably disappointed in this gym. I just moved to Bakersfield and am in the middle of a health journey. I am currently 80 pounds down and have more to go. I was so excited to sign up. I was instantly met with chaos when I walked into the gym. Apparently only two employees for the whole gym. Then when I said I wanted to sign up I was met with lots of talk assuming I had never stepped foot in a gym before!! I may be large but that does not mean I do not know what a personal trainer is or how they work. Then the last straw. . . apparently this company is INCAPABABLE of opening your membership without an account and routing number. REALLY how many of you walk around with that information in your purse?!?!?!?! Then I called back this morning hoping that perhaps it was just the way too young employee that I was talking with last night. When I spoke with the manager this morning not only was a I referred to as Sir (I have a cold right now) I was again informed that they needed that information to set up my account unless I wanted to pay cash and commit to 18 months. (as I am planning on moving again in the next few months this was not an option) You ALSO NEED TO BE A MEMEBER of your home gym for a minimum of THREE months before you can transfer your membership to another Planet Fitness location. I was really looking forward to getting back into the gym. . but hey. . the good news. . I found a better gym because of their inept company policies. . with a POOL and a SAUNA for only $3 more a month. And guess what. .they can set up my membership with my debit card like a normal company!!! No thank you Planet Fitness!!! You missed out on a great client too!!! My journey is being tracked and you could have been right there with me on stage at my next celebration event with my weight loss company. . now you will be talked about in this manner. read more
