This Planet Fitness is a completely serviceable, average example of the PF franchise. It's usually reasonably clean, has enough equipment to accommodate everyone with limited waiting except during peak hours, and mostly polite patrons. The price is definitely right: $24 a month for the cheaper plan advertised as "$15/month" and $29 a month for the "$24.99" "Black" membership that allows you to use any PF location, massage chairs and tanning beds. (Actual prices I mentioned includes the additional annual and starting fees). The downsides--not horrible issues, but at times bothersome: -Dumbbells max at 75 lbs -No barbells/benches--only Smith machines -Some equipment needing servicing -The locker rooms seem to be in a constant state of disrepair with damaged stalls and showers, which seems common at many gyms -Staff don't seem inclined to remind patrons to be respectful of others when they are loudly moaning from pleasurable workouts, shouting music lyrics, and playing music on speakers read more

Outstanding downtown location. Larger space and more workout equipment than Merritt and other gyms in the area. The workout equipment is excellent, generally kept in decent condition and updated regularly. Simple, fair membership agreements that can be canceled, temporarily suspended, changed to other PF locations, all easily. This is NOT common in the fitness industry. Other clubs seem to compete for which one can write the most one-sided, burdensome and overall toxic membership agreements. A simple $25/month membership allows one to visit any Planet Fitness facility in the world and there are around 2,500 Planet Fitness facilities. With a Black Card ($25/month) membership, you can bring a guest whenever you wish. Never any charge for bringing one guest. You can bring more than one guest for a small payment. Easy going staff, chill ambience. The folks who work out here are mostly there to work out. Negatives? The locker rooms need to be updated. They don't have a pool or sauna. But overall, for a large, well-equipped urban fitness center, Planet Fitness on Charles Street is extraordinarily well-priced and in my view a great place to work out for those of us who work, live or visit in the urban core of Baltimore City. read more

Gym itself was clean. Homeless in the bathroom pacing the showers, charging their electronics and what not. There was almost a physical altercation between the two of them and a guest who was showering when they tried taking the guests bag. If you walk into this place for the first time they assume you've never worked out a day in your life. They didn't even bother asking if I was currently working out anywhere during my tour. I was not sold. Apparently if you work out too hard or push yourself they embarrass you by pulling the "lunk" alarm. They admitted to not wanting bodybuilders or serious trainers there because it would "intimidate" the other gym-goers. Not motivate, intimidate. In the spa area, which is for Black Card members only, they have a machine that shakes you to tone your body. Isn't that what working out is for?! This gym is for the beginner and novice. I've been training for three years. On the wall in huge letters it says "You Belong Here" but it was made clear that I didn't. read more

Went to workout with a group of friends & got denied entry for some of us wearing crocs. There were multiple people in the gym also wearing crocs but weren't denied entry and were actively working out. Depending on the type of workout, many people wear crocs or slides to the gym & slip them off to be flat footed. How can the rule apply from some & not for others. Other planet fitnesses have never said anything about wearing crocs. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone to get a membership with this planet fitness or even waste your time trying to come here like I did. First off If you don't live in walking distance the parking situation is rough. You have to pay for street parking if you can find it or pay to park in a garage a cross the street. You should check to see if they are open before you park because this place does not follow any set schedule. They only open when they have staff and you'll never know when that is. I went one morning after paying to park to find all the gym patrons just standing outside in the cold. They filled me in this happens all the time when they don't have staff to open the place. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF SERVING PLANET FITNESS. I tried to cancel my membership in December, but I had to drive an hour away and when I was there they said their system was down. I don't believe their assocaites named Antonio and Rubio knew how to do their jobs. They said they will take care of it and get the manager involved. Then in January, I was charged $20 again and I spoke to the Manager named Kayla and she assured me I would not be charged, I was charged again in February and I'm pretty sure they will charge me again in March. No one wants to go to Planet Fitness because they do not properly take care of their facility, too occupied and their employees do not know how to work their computers or register. They will not start charging my card and at this point, Planet Fitness is stealing from me and will steal from you. I went to Planet Fitness on The Alameda in Baltimore Maryland. I honestly don't care if you smoke weed at work but maybe there shouldn't be 20-30 minute stretches with no one at the front desk until you come back (together, bleary eyed and squinting) You took the alternate payment card I gave you last week but mistakenly did not charge me everything you say I owed at the time and then tonight insisted on charging me a late fee. I like the location of this planet fitness but when I walked in I was underwhelmed. It is smaller than many planet fitnesses I've been to while traveling. Equipment was limited and the weight of dumbbells were limited. The locker room was very small. Wet areas were cramped and provided little to no room move comfortably in a space where people need to shower and dry off. Bathroom stalls did not have toilet paper. I think what completely made my experience horrible was me having to pay $26 for parking....after getting parking ticket validated at gym's front desk. read more

This is the first gym I've ever belonged to so I don't have anything to compare it to, but everything has been great. I go early in the morning around 5-6am so it's never crowded and parking isn't a problem. The people who work there are always friendly and usually at the desk or cleaning up when I'm there. Between the weights, machines and the 30 minutes area there's always something to do there. I'd definitely recommend this location. read more

Went back to the gym for one of the first times after staying at home throughout this pandemic... probably against my better judgement. It wasn't super crowded and the machines were marked off every other machine for distancing measures. However, more than half of the people in the gym were wearing their masks below their nose, some with their mouths completely out. When notified, the man working at the front went around the room and asked everyone to pull up their masks, but five minutes later, everyone's mask was down again. I watched three people (all not wearing masks properly) not clean off machines after using them. Ended up leaving early. It's probably fine if you come here at really off hours, but I wouldn't recommend going during the weekend or after work hours if you care about cleanliness during a pandemic read more

There is a lady there by the name of Yolanda and she is awesome. She is always pleasant and smiling and really knows her stuff. If she ever leaves, this place would suffer considering I see the change in the atmosphere since she has been there. She is always cleaning, giving advice on workouts and helping members. She even helped me. I saw her one day crying with a member because she really does care about how we feel then I saw later her giving the member a hug and he went on his way. She is there all the time and I even ask is there a day when she isn't. A true asset to this gym and she does way too much for Planet because I don't see the guys do as much as she does. She even told me about her journey to weight loss. I have a long way to go but she is not only involved but loves the gym. People like her are a dime a dozen and I see how members interact with her. if they aren't laughing they are crying...lol. with joy that is. She knows my name and greets me with a masked smile. This lady is always cleaning...and where is the darn cleaning team it makes no sense that she cleans, handle members, and is normally alone on her shift.. and I know she isn't getting what she is worth. read more

Worst club. Worst manager. They are worse than car salesman. Outright lied to me to get me to sign up and then stole $60. They tell you that you have "unlimited access" only for the manager to specify after signing up that means "unlimited until 10." There are two main reasons why I decided to join Planet Fitness in general and specifically this location: price and convenience. After a long day at work I am usually starting to feel burnt out so the last thing I want to do is drive somewhere to get a workout in. The fact that I can walk right down to the harbor makes me much more likely to make time for some weight training or cardio, so that alone benefits my health. The price of $19.99 for a black card seems to be worth it to me, though I know there are some other fees associated with being a member here that you have to look out for. As for the facility, it is overall very well-maintained and the equipment is relatively new and in good shape. There are definitely some areas where it lacks, such as not having any bench presses, squat racks, or places to deadlift. Cardio machines are plentiful, however, so there's never a wait for them. The whole inclusive culture and "judgment free zone" is a little bit much at times, but you get used to the alarm going off when someone clanks the weights too loudly. Overall, they have most things you need unless you really plan to train hard. read more

Okay but.... I registered online for a black card membership which is $19.99 a month which isn't bad. I was under the impression they would give you a tour of the facility when you first arrive. I was dead wrong! I mean the advertisement on the website is false. I did not receive a tour, I asked the woman behind the front desk where's the bathroom and she pointed in a direction instead of showing me. After I checked in she told me you can either buy a lock from them for $5 or use a number combination locker which is free and the directions is at the top. I mean wow, for my "first time" joining a actually gym; I'm not impressed at all. The customer service was very mediocre. It's like here's your key pass and now go out to the wilderness alone and make your way around. I'm sorry but I was very very confused about the initial visit. However; on the positive note, the equipment is amazing. I love how they have tons of treadmills, elliptical, etc. for people to get on without having to wait. Plus it's a ten minute walk from my apartment. If this gym was out of the way for me I would definitely cancel my membership ASAP. Just don't expect to be greeted with a positive attitude. read more

Was so happy this gym opened up. I am able to walk to the gym! There are two ways to get in but the main entrance is around the side of the building. You wouldn't know it was there. A sign to point you in the right direction would be helpful. They have parking but you have to pay. The gym will validate, the cost is around $3 for an hour. The gym itself is a decent size. It can be crowed, mostly around 5-6:00, but I have never had a problem getting on a machine. It's always clean and doesn't smell of sweat as some gyms do. I've never had a problem with the staff, although I haven't had much interaction. I do wish they offered more classes, but the price is good. Also because I upgraded to the "black card" I have unlimited guest passes. Having a workout buddy can make all the difference. You also get unlimited tanning and access to any PF in the county. read more

Say what you will about planet fitness but it's convenience will always get them high remarks for me. A quick walk from the office and I can get a needed workout. I like the location also for running around the harbor and taking the rest of my workout back to the gym. When I get there it's very few in yet so it fits me just fine. It's open 24/7 and I can walk to a place for a healthy post workout meal. Also making you walk to and from it helps. Other locations I have to drive to so even though I worked out I'm driving instead of using these legs I'm trying get in shape. The staff a decent and the space is average compared to other sites but this location finally caters to inner city (which is where I live). I give it a 3 star because it is obvious the staff that is hired can't be properly trained. No one is ever at the front desk and I get it because they are busy cleaning. Where is the cleaning staff? There are limited drinks for energy and protein so I am curious as to why they charge full price and the other planets are discounted for all drinks. I asked the young lady at the front desk and she stated it is based on the franchise, corporate, and region which differ. At least she had an answer which made sense, unlike the other one who stood around. I never see any classes being performed and the trainer doesn't go around announcing it either. this is definitely not the Planet I am used to being in and I travel a lot. Can you get some updated lockers for the front? I am forever asking the front desk to unlock them and having to search for him on the floor because he is cleaning (no complaints). I rather bring my own lock than have to keep asking for a locker to be unlocked because it gets stuck. Finally getting a chance to write this review. Went in to tan while on a business trip. Their machines were down and they couldn't take payment for the eyewear. (The $0.50 eyewear that is) and so I just left. Oh and they don't accept cash so I couldn't pay that way either. Seriously just give me the fifty cent eyewear. It's not my fault your machines are down and you don't take cash.
