It has been a long time since I have been to Planet Fitness. I have a lot of gym experience. I was surprised how nice this Bowie gym is. There are a several benches and at least two full sets of dumbbells. On my first visit there was a tear in the flooring and my foot snagged on the tear. On my next visit maintenance was there repairing it. I'm in the gym at least 3x weekly. I was impressed by how quickly I saw this got handled, though I really don't actually know how long it had been damaged. They have an abundance of weightlifting equipment. And they have a ton of cardio machines. Their massage chairs and hydromassages are inferior compared to other gyms. The folks at the front desk are very nice and easy to work with, above and beyond even. read more

This is not my home gym I have only been to this location once. I had a very easy time navigating the layout of this facility. After you scan your QR code and walk past the welcome desk you can immediately spot the locker rooms on the left. You walk a little more past the locker rooms and then you see a huge stretching area to prepare for your workout. When I would use the equipment I wouldn't have to walk very far to find paper towels and cleaning spray. Oh and the staff are also friendly. Nice job Planet Fitness Bowie! read more

I love the facility and the staff. The facility is extremely fit friendly stays open 24/7 and the staff is friendly and helpful. I've been to numerous PF facilities in the DMV area, and I believe the Bowie facility is one of the best. My problem is PFs billing practices. I take ownership for not checking my credit card statement monthly. PF has erroneously billed about $200. When checking with the staff they couldn't explain it. I was told they switched their billing system. This doesn't explain why I was double billed over several months, and there was an inexplicable $75 charge on my card. If there is going to be a male in the ladies restroom, please put a sign in front of the bathroom indicating so. I used the restroom in there the other day and while I was drying my hands I could see a guy in the utility closet. I was like well I guess I just peed while there was a guy in close proximity. I was not ok with that. There were like three or four girl staff members in there so I don't know why there was a fella in there. This club appears to be one of the more recent clubs, or at least one that has upgraded to some of the newer equipment on a club wide basis, which is refreshing. I like this Planet Fitness because it knows exactly what it is and does not try to be what it is not. Here the members come in, get a workout, and leave. The gym and locker room are always clean (restrooms could use more attention but that is the fault of nasty gym members). The PF mantra of no "Gym-idation" (gym intimidation) is certainly at play. Most people are just trying to get or stay fit. You will not find that steroid raged clown in here grunting and scowling at those who are waiting on some dumbbells. There are ample treadmills, ellipticals, and weight machines. The space is well laid out and I never feel like I am a sardine. The staff is friendly and they are always available. The supplies like disinfectant and paper towels are always stocked. The true gem for me are the hydro massage tables and massage chairs. The are typically available and seemingly well cleaned and maintained. This is a good gym. I feel comfortable here. Some minor quibbles about the lack of water fountains with easy to fill water bottle spouts, the limited amount of free weights, and the close quarters layout of the squat racks; but nothing major. I might be slightly biased here, as this is my home gym, and I've been a regular here before covid. I recently signed back up after getting vaccinated, and the experience has been pretty consistent with what I'm used to. It's planet fitness, so those that don't believe it to be a "gym" will continue to think so, but it's more than sufficient for me at this current time. The only thing keeping me from the 5 stars is the overall cleanliness. I come right at midnight, and it's nice there's not many people. However, I'm seeing so many used paper towels used to disinfect lying around all over the place, on the ground or on top or equipment. Weights are also not back on the racks, including dumbbells that are way out of place by treadmills. Sure, these come from user error, but the staff can be more proactive in educating or enforcing a bit better. There are also customers here not wearing masks properly, but a quick convo with the staff and they were eager to help enforce. read more

I have been a member and regular user of Bowie PF since 2010 and have grown frustrated by lack of maintenance of equipment. Machines break down and remain unrepaired for weeks or months at a time. Recently all strength equipment was replaced with new machines but PF installed only one machine for each two removed, resulting in sharply reduced overall capacity. Online complaints to PF have gone unanswered. read more

I really like this one because they have a ton of equipment to workout on and it is not usually packed like the other gyms in the area. The free weights only go up to 75 lbs, so it is a little restrictive for heavy lifters, which is unfortunate, but I make it work. Good gym, good vibe, good management BUT it's not a 24/7 gym as advertised. Friday, Saturday, or Sunday one cannot use the facility after certain hours. My favorite location! The empolyees at this location are unmatched at any other Planet Fitness that I've visited. Mariah, Hunter, Nick - just to name a few, are just three of the employees that knew me by name by my first 5 visits. And since, have asked where I disappear to during my long no-gym diet days. :) They geiuninely care about their customers, giving correction and advice when needed, in and out of class. I have also been attending their workout classes, mostly on Wednesday's and I think they really do make a difference. I use their bathrooms and shower area frequently and have complaints. Parking is easy as access and also, there are food/eatery locations in the surrounding area (Yes, even a smoothie spot). Only tip I have, although I know it's a strech.. is, I would love a morning (6am) class. Many people are not there at the time, which is why a class might not be available at said time.. but, for the ones that make it, I would personally be interested. Raise your hand if you have a PF membership and haven't been in 5 months or more. ( Hand raised) Well, I broke my several month siesta by visiting the gym today. The gym is well maintained, and the front desk staff is nice. I lost my card and they replaced it with no problem. I went around 12 and there were very few people there. I wish I could go around this time all of the time. I like the fact that there are "normal" people at this gym, not all of the crazy buff people that make you feel uncomfortable. I also noticed that they added vending machines in the locker room and near the water fountain. You can buy earbuds, protein bars, and other things you might need. They have all of the equipment that you would need to get the job done. There are no frills just fitness so you won't find any Zumba classes or spinning classes. But if you want to work out and pay $10 or $20 a month for the black card, then go ahead and get a membership. read more

Let me keep it all the way live for a minute, I don't like working out. I don't like psyching myself out to actually go, I don't like the gym rats that run circles around me and I don't like how people get off a machine and don't wipe it down....GROSS! I've never met a work-out that I actually enjoy nor that I actually want to do. With that being said, I do however know that it's good for me, which is why I go to the gym....sometimes. I enjoy this Planet Fitness location because I never have to wait for a machine even at peak after work hours. I pay $10 a month, it's open 24/7, it's close to home and it doesn't have that funky gym smell that some gyms I've gone to have. They have several free weights, leg/arm machines, treadmills, elliptical machines and several other machines. Classes are not offered and they don't have any type of day-care for kids, which is great for me because I'm sure that's how they can charge only $10 a month. A large amount of televisions are lined up in front of the stationary equipment and the machines allow you to use your personal earphones to listen to the television or radio stations of your choice. Plus they have music playing throughout the gym if you forget your earphones. The locker room has the normal things...bathroom stalls, showers, dressing rooms and of course, lockers. PF offers personal trainers for an additional cost. The staff can be hit or miss, but other than entering in and out, I don't require their assistance. A year or two ago they changed their payment policy and requires that you give them your bank account number to automatically withdraw the payment monthly. I'm not usually a fan of stores/companies automatically withdrawing money from my bank account, but it is only $10 and I haven't had any issues with them doing so. I forgot to mention that in addition to the $10 per month fee, once a year PF charges and additional fee. For the life of me I can't remember if it's $30 or $40, either way I still think this chain of gyms is the cheapest one around. Yes, I'm proud of myself after I leave a hardcore work-out and I enjoy watching my fat "cry" but I kind of wish I could just take a pill for that. Since I can't, I'm glad I can go to an easy-go-lucky gym like Planet Fitness. It serves its purpose. read more

This is my home gym and seriously thinking about changing. The last week with the weather changing it has been freezing in here and I am not the only one complaining. Even the desk people are wearing coats. It is pretty bad when you come in at 20 degrees outside and it must be only about 55 degrees inside. If something don't change I will be changing gyms. Also so much of the equipment is ripped and many times things are broke and it takes so long for them to fix. Such as the woman's handicapped stall in the bathroom along with a handsink, it must of taken about three weeks to get fixed. Hopefully things will change if not I love the location, amount of space, but I don't love going in there and not being able to get warm what soever. read more

The staff here are really cool other than the store manager. What's really concerning is that I've been here for an hour and 42 mins now and EVERY Caucasian (6 out of the 20 people here) person has not cleaned the machines after using them. They just got up and walked away. This is why I clean what I am using before AND AFTER. And during a pandemic I think that the gym should enforce everyone to do their part and cleaning the machines and equipment when they're done using it. It is not clean, the woman's locker room is outdated, needs a thorough cleaning, and needs to be repainted. True confession: I'm out-of-shape and overweight. In a big way. I've also belonged to other gyms in an attempt to get healthy. First, there was Bally's which is now out-of-business and they Gold's Gym. Both of those places were the typical places you think about when you think of gyms. Way over crowded and lots of guys in muscle shirts with lots of muscles and women in spandex. Planet Fitness really is a different kind of gym. They don't have the huge aerobics classes or anything like that. They have plenty of cardio and weight equipment (plenty!) and they have a circuit for abs and for whole body. It's just a whole lot more low key. The Bowie gym is friendly and I've gone at different times. Some when there's hardly anyone there and others when the place was pretty full. I never had a problem getting on a piece of equipment or getting locker space. They advertise this "No Gymtimidation" thing. It's true. Sure, there are people there that are in great shape and there to workout in a serious way. There are also a ton of "just regular folks" who are there trying to get healthy It's clean and open and the fact that it's open 24/7 makes it nice if I can't sleep at night. I used to go to this gym a couple years ago. Was attracted by the $10 membership. The no-judgment zone marketing didn't really appeal to me. The gym is clean and spacious. Parking is available, but not always convenient because of the other stores in the shopping center. Outside of dumbbells, there are no free weights, but you can get a nice workout and a good pump. I didn't like the restrictions they place on things like grunting and dropping the weights. If you're pushing yourself and testing your limits, invariably, you're going to end up grunting. For people looking to grow and change their body, it feels restrictive. I also didn't like the weekly pizza day. You're in a gym to get in better shape, and they give you pizza? That's counter-productive. All in all, billing is straightforward, didn't have any issues cancelling and the staff provides a safe, clean environment for the patrons. It's just not for me. read more

I highly recommend Planet Fitness to whoever is starting a work out regiment. I would recommend taking someone knowledgeable if you don't know what you're doing although when you first joing they give you a mini tour on how each machine works. I visited this branch a few months back after it opened, way larger than the one in Ellicott City but I personally feel this branch is lacking in the weights department. As all its counterparts, this branch is very neat and tidy, usually empty so machines you need are usually available(I'm sure it's not on customer appreciation nights when they give out free pizza). $20 for full membership and $10 for one branch membership can't be beat. read more

There are a lot of machines to choose from (both strength and cardio) as well as free weights, 2 massage chairs, and 6 tanning booths. I got the $20 a month package which was unlimited tanning and work out plus I can visit other locations (don't know if the special pricing still applies) and my roommate got the $10 a month unlimited work out-no commitment plan. cheaper than buying a bowflex machine and it suits my needs. I'm already one pants size smaller!! they are having a special now until june 5th, 2009 $5 enrollment and only $10 a month no commitment (billed monthly to a checking account or credit card and subject to a $29 annual rate guarantee fee.) there is a flyer for this special but you can ask them if you can get it without the flyer. read more

This place is great I use this gym for all of my triathlon and century ride trainings in the area. The staff are awesome the gym has been remodeled they have a on site AED and first aid kit that's always stocked. Since the remodel I can't wait to get to the gym and use the new equipment. I have tried the La fitness and the Golds and by far I like this location better and it's 24hours so I never have a reason to miss a workout. read more
