I would give it zero stars if I could. I had been a member for about 7 years, and it was the perfect location, 10 minutes from the house. It ran efficiently for a while, but went downhill quickly. I used it primarily for the lap pool, but they broke one of the lane dividers almost two years ago...TWO YEARS AGO, and lied and told me another one was on the way. If you get more than 2 people in the pool, you are running into one another. This is 2025. You can't get a standard size, every pool has them, lane divider??????? Oh, and the other equipment is never fully operational. Out of order signs pervade. Plus, don't bother to talk to management. Totally nonresponsive. I am truly amazed that this place is still open, so I fully expect to drive by any day and see it closed. It's sad. In the day, it was great. I have been a member since LA Fitness acquired Bally's. (I was a Ballys gold club member for a number of years prior to the acquisition.) I've been attending the Crofton/Gambrills location and want to applaud the staff and cleaning crew. The locker room and general areas are routinely cleaned throughout the day and remain sanitary with sufficient paper towels and hand sanitizer available to club members. And, I can't say enough for the staff, especially, the lead manager, Gabby K. Unfortunately, in the past, most LA Fitness managers did not stay on the job long enough to know what the heck they were doing. Not Gabby. I'm a forgetful old chap and have on several occasions misplaced my cell phone. Ms. Gabby always stopped what she was doing to help me locate it. Over 4 years of unwavering commitment to excellent customer service. She deserves a raise - NOW!! The club always opens on-time and staff greets you with a "hello - have a nice workout" on your entry and "have a nice day" (or similar) on exit. FIVE-STAR club!!! read more

So I've been tagging along with my friends to LAF. I finally wanted to go on my own accord . I called the UM location but some young chick answering the phones wanted to play games then help a potential customer. Oh well that's another story. I'll review that soon. I called and got transferred to Danin. He briefly explained gym and rate. I paid and now I'm LAF offical. This location is clean!!!!! Bathrooms are clean!! Pools are clean!! People actually wipe down the equipment. People actually re rack weights!! People actually wanna work out here instead of showing off. Staff here are nice and friendly unlike UM. They have everything here except for a Basketball gym but thats far from a deal breaker. While this may not be right down the street like the other location is, I think I prefer this one over mine. It is conveniently located in the heart of the Bowie Town Center among a lot of shops and restaurants. You can easily place exercise before or after anything else you might do there. And parking is definitely not a concern. There are three key things that occur at this LA Fitness location that I never see at mine: 1) At the front desk, you can scan yourself in, someone else doesn't have to do it. 2) The dumbbell rack was completely organized, except for one pair that was missing. 3) Someone was walking around the floor thoroughly vacuuming the vacant machines and floor the entire time that I was in there exercising. Overall, it is indeed cleaner than mine. I think they have more treadmills too! My workouts tend to be quite efficient, and if I am ever nearby, I definitely stop by. I've been s member of this gym since it opened. I used to go to the one in Crofton. This one is well maintained and has all the equipment that I need. Plus it's never crowded. My only issue is that at times there is no one at the front desk when members or people come in. That can lead to potential problems with undesirables coming in and helping themselves to your belongings in the locker room. Other than that, it's a great gym. read more

I recently moved to the area and I've been going here for a few months. The equipment aren't well maintained, the paper towels and disinfectants aren't readily available (so members don't always wipe down equipment). In the bathrooms, the sinks barely drain. This isn't a low end gym. It just feels like it isn't maintained. Not a lot of options here so I don't think they care to improve things. Feels like we are captive. Overall, it's not too bad. Most of the machines are maintained. Pool area is clear. However, the day manager there, an older gentleman, seems to be a bit on the sarcastic side. There were a couple of things I mentioned, and recently, when I asked again, he said "yes, I have dealt with this, based on the urgency of your request". Each time was a "you had to be there moment". You know the tactic. Not overtly rude, but snide in tone and look. Really? Ok, there are other gyms in the area. read more

This is one of the worst locations I've been to. It's so small, most of the machines (especially the stair masters) are out of service, and there's roaches (how disgusting is that?!) I drive all the way to the Gambrills location and it's worth the drive. Don't waste your money! read more

I've been going to the Bowie location for a few years and sadly it's going downhill. Ceiling tiles falling, mildew around hot tub, vents filled with dust... For the last few weeks there has been no hot water for showers! We've told them several times but get no answer. Also, the hot tub has been so full of chemicals that our eyes burn and wake up the next morning with a splitting headache. (Yes, we stopped using the hot tub.) read more

Lowering my rating. Beware of rude personal trainers and members. I am a hoop dancer, and the group classes room is the perfect practice space for me with the high ceilings and dance floor surface I lack at my current residence. LA Fitnesses allow members to utilize the space whenever there are no classes scheduled. This is a huge part of the reason I stay a member here. Well recently, at this location only, I find myself in the room alone when other members come in with boom boxes (or the modern version) or remove the headphones from their audio equipment and loudly blast urban tunes into the room. Besides the fact that I don't enjoy that type of music, the lyrics often contain vulgar language and degrading messages. Worse, the volume penetrates through my own headphones (I use my iPhone for music with nice Klipsch headphones that usually block out excess noise). It completely interferes with my own session since I move with the flow of my music. Mostly is just plain rude. If I did that with my own trance, classical, Arabic or rock music, certainly people would complain. I would never force my music on others workouts though. Then yesterday, I'm in the room and a trainer comes in and BLAST at ear damaging volumes some hideous music and didn't even think to say something to the others in there first. He was only training one client too. They could have used a significant lower volume. Everyone left. I asked him why the music had to be so loud and he at first acted like I shouldn't be in the room anyway. Then when I angrily stalked off, he lowered the volume a teensy bit. I tried to stay in good spirit but the awful noise was still too loud and I couldn't hear my own headphones at the loudest volume setting. So I just left. I would actively complain, but thankfully this will no longer be my home gym in a few weeks. PS Bowie - not everyone likes excessively loud, rubbish rap. read more

I got a 4 day guest pass while visiting my mom and brother in Bowie over Thanksgiving and was pleasantly surprised! Great machines and ample space to run a 2 person circuit. We always do interval sprints on the treadmill then move to weight intervals and finish with row intervals. We did 2 days: Day 1 we used the barbells and benches. 8am left ample space for us although not at side by side benches, however we had all the weights we needed a d were able to call out time. What I loved most was more half weights than I'm used to. Rather than 20 to 25, they also had 22.5 and the trend was across the whole collection. Day 2 we used the kettlebell and tope station. Loved that they rope off the bells for safety (who hasn't had someone walk into your swings at the gym and NOT panic?). Took off one star because their bells were heavily peeling which compromised grip. We did use the dry sauna (awesome but small) & were impressed by the cleanliness of the locker rooms. They had a spinning room, yoga/class room and a pool with hot tub, though we didn't use them, they were spotless. We dont have an LA fitness near us in WI, but will likely use this gym anytime we visit. read more

It took about a year, but corporate LA Fitness finally listened to its customers and management on increasing the hours. I wish they didn't wait until after I cancelled my membership! The extra hour each night helps accommodate working professionals. It's still the cleanest and most well organized gym in the area. Management said they are working on an additional increase in hours, so hopefully that comes through. It'd be nice to have weekend evening hours accommodated. read more

Don't waste your money. Everything is BROKEN! Equipment is MISSING! Really had to start buying my own attachments for the pulley machines. I've been going here for years and the machines have not been updated no new machines or anything at all. I do not understand why I am paying maintenance fees at this point. The only reason I go is because this is closest to my home, but sadly you can only really use the treadmill because all the strength training machines are BROKEN! And they do not plan on fixing anything clearly because there have been complaints and it's been well over a couple years now. They get a one star for the staff. The staff are very nice :) read more

Every time I come in here I get asked about the ladies locker room "how many of you are in there?" And to day it was the cleaning guy and the lil twerpy manager and he was extremely rude when I told him I was tired of being hassled because they don't have a female to clean in there. EVERY TIME. It is not my issue or problem that they can't keep someone to do the cleaning. I will also be sending a letter to corporate and posting on Facebook about this. I pay to work out here. I pay for convenience. It is NOT convenient to get hassled about a locker room because of poor management. read more

This is a pretty small LA Fitness in comparison to many others but I think based on the community population that is nearby, it works with the amount of people that come in everyday. They have all the necessary equipment, a pool, a sauna, and two studios that you can of course use when no classes are going on. I think one of the downsides is parking gets terrible when a class is going on, which typically happens right after work finishes for everyone. And like any other gym, it is pretty busy after 5pm. I am assuming it is so busy right now specifically because the new year just started, so a lot of people are working on their resolutions. I try to go later in the evening, maybe around 7:30/8pm, and the gym is definitely a lot less crowded so one is able to get to the squat rack. The squat rack has really been the only machine I have had to wait for, there is never a long wait for any exercise equipment, and people at this gym are generally nice, not like the normal meatheads you find at some LA Fitness's. I also like coming to the gym on the weekends when I can, there aer usually no people there, so I try and take advantage of the space. The staff is very friendly. They were very accommodating, especially when I moved up to Maryland from Florida, and helped me handle my gym membership transfer. They also always greet you and they remember the familiar faces. All in all, I am a fan of this gym in particular. I have been to a few others in the area and I feel most comfortable at this one. Hopefully, you will too. read more

If you are a parent, READ THIS! I will start by saying that I, as well as my entire immediate family have patronized LA Fitness, Bowie for several years. We bypass several closer gyms 5 days out of the week, sometimes multiple times a day just because we thoroughly enjoy this facility. The staff, facility and camaraderie of the patrons all deserve 5 stars. HOWEVER, management is a shameless, self-entitled DISGRACE to the entire LA Fitness brand. Recently, the Operations Manager (Tony) who claimed to be doing "inspections", used his key to open a locked child's bathroom door in the KidsKlub at the facility. This intrusion was completely unannounced and resulted in him walking in on a female toddler in the process of using the restroom. This child, was luckily accompanied by her parent who quickly shooed the disrespectful manager away. 10 seconds later the same "manager" OPENS THE DOOR AGAIN, knowing that the restroom is occupied, further invading this child's privacy and frankly pissing the parent off. WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING? She is a child, using restroom at a secluded child area. What did you expect to see the first...and second you intruded?! If you would not have bypassed Tiarra, who is the completely capable KidsKlub attendant, this would NOT have happened--arrogance at its worst. The apology from management (Tony) went something like "I'm sorry, I was doing inspections, what else do you want me to say?" You try being a parent who literally just witnessed an adult walk in on your child's privacy TWICE! UNNACCEPTABLE!  Imagine the trauma if that child or any other child would have been in there alone. Calls to the LA Fitness Corporate office go unreturned and the complaints are filed away and not acted on. The manager has not received any disciplinary action is not remorseful in the slightest. The next day he mentioned that the spoke to Corporate and hes "good", he'll be here so we should get used to it. My niece, the little girl he walked in on is TRAUMATIZED and is still retelling the story.  Her PRIVACY was invaded which is against everything she is taught at home. But obviously LA Fitness as well as its Corporate offices condone Tony's actions and stand behind him. BEWARE! Since the incident, we've gotten calls from the DM (Neil) who did not seek to hear our side of the story by called to mention that he had already sided with the Operations Manger Tony, and that we should get used so seeing him not matter how uncomfortable he makes us feel. He also mentioned that we should not talk to Tony. Neil the DM has even went so far as to show up at the facility to get our membership cancelled. The KidsKamp membership has mysteriously been deleted from our accounts as well as other efforts to make us go away. It will NOT be that easy LA Fitness. read more

This gym disappoints me so much! There has been several occasions it has not been open at 5:00am. I write this as I sit in the parking lot at 5:15 waiting for someone to come with a key to open the gym!! They do not honor guest passes that have been granted online and management is rude and not flexible with potential new members. I had three friends I had invited to come workout with me but we're all given a hard time because the guest pass was not honored. Needless to say, the experience made them not want to join. In terms of the facility, the gym offers some quality equipment and great amenities for the price point. In the beginning, the sauna use to be broken like every other week but they eventually got that together. The trainers there, well, they are there for those who need one. So, the 2-star rating is mostly for the front desk staff. A few times I've had less than desirable run-ins with the front desk staff. Some of them are actually quite nice, but a few of them need serious training in customer service. read more

Bumping it up a star for the speed in which problems (such as leaking ceiling, broken equipment) have been fixed/resolved. There haven't been many problems but kudos for addressing the ones that have come up in a timely manner. Also, the front desk staff have become more friendly and at least acknowledge us as we arrive and leave, which is a noticeable, and appreciated, improvement from a month ago. Also, I haven't noticed the crowds so much; maybe it's the time I'm usually there, but I haven't had any issues with folks all up in my workout business. I seem to be using this location more than my home location and that's alright with me for now. They have all the new machines that i like to use, this location hasn't been crowded and the locker room is clean and well maintained. This location is a bit smaller than Crofton and you seem to always be beside someone which may bother some. I also on occasion like to play basketball and racquetball which this location has neither. So all and all the BOWIE LA Fitness is a good club and satisfies the majority of my basic workout needs but as my fitness activists continue to expand I'll need the other locations and the extended activities they provide. read more

Gym - the actual gym is not bad. Never really crowded (after January of course) and easy to get a machine. the locker rooms seem clean but I do not use them extensively. Normally, im already dressed so im running in to lock my coat up or go use the restroom. Personal training - this is why the gym has 1 star. DO NOT SIGN UP!!!!!!! It is such a scam. I had LA fitness personal training years ago and didn't like it. Moved to MD and said i'll try it again. Jimmy, who is the training manager, is a liar and cheat. He promised me 6 total sessions a month. Each month I have to remind him multiple times to add the 2 additional session (apparently, the package is 4 sessions a month and to get you to sign up they add 2 additional. well someone has to go into the system and add them and Jimmy never does). When he was selling me the training he said his program is different because he provides meal plans weekly. I got one meal plan from him. I reminded him several times and nothing. I quit asking. I was told this is what he tells people to bait them in and never follows through. They fired my personal trainer and I no one told me ahead of time. So I came all the way to the gym for Jimmy to say to me he had been trying to call me. I never received a call and my number in the system is correct. Jimmy did my assessment and didn't do it all the way. I have not starting weight or measurements. he is lazy. they get you to sign up and after that you are not important. DO NOT SIGN UP!!!! save your time and money. my new trainer isn't that great and he smokes so his breath smells of tobacco. I will probably get a new trainer. read more

Been some time since I've been here but this is definitely my preferred location. Upper Marlboro is where I've been going because it's a little closer however today I decided to drive the extra miles. This location is never as crowded and the equipment is well maintained. They don't have the amenities that the UM location has such as the basketball or racquetball courts but that suits me just fine because I don't use them. Although the have classes they aren't as frequent as the UM location which allows me to use the heavy bag as part of my workout. Staff is friendly and never really a wait for the equipment that I use. I'll more than likely continue to make the longer trip for a better workout. read more

Great location but horrible customer service! I am going back to the Crofton location after dealing with Jasmine and the likes of her colleagues. I asked not to be called during the business day and as of 12:20pm, I received my 7th call of the day! So disrespectful. I then asked Jasmine for her email address. She responded by asking if I wanted her personal email address. I replied by asking for her PROFESSIONAL email address. She failed to provide it, and then proceeded to talk over me. The customer service is great on the sales side, but management needs a lesson or two, make that three in business etiquette! read more

If I could rate this place a zero I would. The management at this place is horrible. Now this is my second review and it is obvious that La Fitness does not take the customers reviews serious. You have a manager that works in the day by the name of Benita, she is unprofessional and has zero management skills. The gym never gets too crowded and has been my favorite place to work out at. My only gripe is that this location has shortened hours compared to many other locations. read more
