I have been a member of Planet Fitness for over eight years. The management of PF of Remsen does not have any respect for the patrons. The "Stand Up Cable" has been broken for over a month and they never fixed it. It would have been fixed if the gym was in an affluent area. We, the people, demand better. Planet Fitness Carnesie located at 856 Remsen Avenue, Brooklyn NY,11236, is highly dishonest! I was at that location April 15th 2023 where I cancelled my membership. The manager was there and claimed he did it for me. Come to discover that each month since then they have been removing membership frlee from my account. I call them today and was told that the membership was never canceled and that they cannot issue me a refund for all the months they have been removing fees, though the fault isnt mine and I have not set foot in that establishment or used their services since April 15th 2023. They further advised that the only way cancelation can occur is for me to physically come in..again...to get it done and they will continue to remove money from my account until the cancelation is done. I am not physically in NY at this time and for the life of me I cannot understand why they just cannot do it on their end. Why did I cancel in the first place? When I joined the gym I was told they had personal trainers. I started going in March 2023 and discovered they had none. I was advised by the manager that the last trainer no longer worked there and they would have someone new within a month. I don't know how to use gym equipment so I was glad to have the personal trainer services to help. I decided to biew youtibe tutorials in the interim.and I would take my tripod with me and set it up.and look at tutorials on my phone. April 15th I was advised by a staff member that tripods went against their policy...I explained i wasnt recording i was looking at a tutorial..she continued tobsay it didnt matter, tripods weren't allowed. I wrnt downstairs where I found the manager, and told him why I was using the tripod and asked for an update regarding when the new trainer will start. He advised me then that they decided to no longer offer personal training services. I told him that was not communicated to me and wasn't what I was presented with as a benefit of joining the gym and I requested my membership be canceled....false advertising, not communicating with their customers. I re-download their app to remove my banking information to avoid them taking more money out...come to find out, I am unable to alter or remove my banking information. This is so grossly dishonest if you ask me and horrible business practices on their part. I have sinced filed a complaint with the better business bureau, requested a stop payment from my bank and also filed a dispute with my bank for the prior charges and the current one. I have not stepped a foot in that gym since April 15th..the manager either is all out liar or plain dumb because all this time I am thinking the membership is canceled and enjoying a better experience at a new gym meanwhile they keep taking money outta my account. It's hot in the gym today, and it's as if the AC has stopped working. It was a challenging workout day. I guess this is a part of the workout plan here. I go to this gym 3-4x per week since I only live 10 minutes away. It's very convenient, clean, and the free parking is a plus. However, I wish they had more cable machines, benchpress benches, and barbells upstairs rather than just free weights and standard machines. The 3 or 4 cable machines are downstairs in one corner and there are always some big Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson looking guys hogging the equipment. Sometimes they're just sitting around and not exercising. Very intimidating. read more

Horrible place to work. So glad I quit. Was cool part time gig as long as they have a good manager. This kid JAYLIN is nothing more than a shady queen who gets off on writing people up for stupid stuff. I'll never forget he wouldn't even let me clock in he was so excited to write me up the day after he became manager I all of a sudden had a pattern of lateness. Nevermind he'd only known me for 2 days and I had never had a write up. This kid you can tell is in his first management position. We only made min wage but we had to wake up to group text messages from this dude. Not acceptable. Talk to us when we get to work. It's just a gym. He would watch us on camera and call us when he wasn't working creating anxiety making us walk on egg shells. No one makes enough money to put up w that. He tried adding on to our front desk responsibilities when we honestly and truly only worked front desk for 1 hour max. We were basically janitors w a front desk title smh. This entire gym was a joke. Literally the gym members complained to the staff about the new Manager. I'm sure he still has staff and gym members stressed out so I thought I'd post a review at least about what it was like working under him so upper management can see cause Naida won't do anything- he's her little minion and she's his role model. Jayline was sarcastic and condescending and needs to be demoted. He really belongs behind an oven flipping burgers due to his lack of professionalism. He could use a class in hospitality. Convenient location with parking lot. Lacked in equipment compared to most locations, but as of last month, several additions were made. More machines per body part and all that empty space filled. The best part: Dumbbells up to 75 pounds! And barbells for curling, etc now added. read more

This gym is fine if you live in the area then go but don't go out your way to come here. This used to be my home gym a few years back so I was already familiar with it on this most recent visit. Came here with my sister on a Saturday afternoon. Looks mostly the same as it did when I was coming a few years ago, not sure whether that is good or bad. The gym is two floors. In general I prefer one floor layout for gyms. Space is a commodity here. The gym is small so most of the machines are pretty close to each other. There only one of most of the strength training machines. Some machines that you find at the PFs aren't here at all. The wear and tear on the machines are starting to show. Some literally have tears in them. One machine the pin for the weights was missing. If you are in the area and want to work out, sure why not. read more

I was picking up something from one of the other stores and thought I would take advantage of available parking, a big plus mind you. I went on a Saturday evening forgetting that not all are 24 hours on the weekend and it wasn't at all crowded which was great. I have to say though they take advantage of every bit of space. Everyone you know goes here. Ran into my best guy friend here who I haven't seen in months, my ex who I haven't seen in years, my friend from school who apparently lives nearby, and annoying dude who I don't care to see and needs no further mention, etc. Basically, you can't commit a crime and think you can hide out here cause everybody and they damn mama goes here and there is no avoiding them! With that said, this place serves its $10 purpose and gets the job done. I just need the staff to sign me in and give us our discounted water, and maybe call the cops if ish pops off (which I've seen this occur between a front desk employee and irrate patron as I quickly exited but not before grabbing my fruities).Otherwise, I'm good. I won't say that it is ghetto, perhaps some of the people are...? I've seen some things that have made me laugh and/or burned my eyes. Some people have their own interpretation of a gym. Read: Sweaty ass pick up spot. The guys do cluster around by the machines and ass watch while they wait. Added bonus for them? If you care, hide your ass, hide your breasts, hide your hips, cause they are sniffing. As long as they don't touch or try to flirt with their funk, I don't care. I mind my business and keep it moving with bf in tow. I always go as my bf's guest although I pay for the branch downtown. It's in and out for us at this place. We come to work our Ihop breakfast off and get back in the car for mom's dinner :). One thing I will say is it is motivating to see the community working out as crowded as it gets. I've helped people with the machines and I've found it to be a drama-free and somewhat friendly atmosphere so far. People don't bs here and they really bust a sweat as the musk and funk lingers in the air of the top floor. Not sure if they use AC or if it makes a difference. I get my workout in and we usually go at times that allows us to do our routine without waiting for machines. Sundays and Saturdays are good from 3 PM onward. I come dressed so I don't have a reason to go to the locker room less my water runs through me. On my last visit the bathroom was surprisingly clean. Overall, I get my workouts in and this place gets the job done for $10 a month, so I won't complain. In and out! read more

The neighborhood is iffy and so are some of the patrons. You have people there working out in jeans, boots, TOMS, UGGS, and flats, SMH. I know you go there to sweat, but the odor that comes off of some of these people would suggest that they do not shower or groom AT ALL! If you're a germaphobe I suggest wiping the machines down before AND after you use them because 5% of the patrons actually follow the rules and wipe their sweat off of the machines. I mean, you get what you pay for. I have the black card which is $20/month. You can go to any NYC PF, unlimited massage chair, tanning, and 1 guest per visit! (Forgot to mention that it's 24 hours, but everyone should know that by now.) I guess the money you save by going here you can put some of it towards buying Clorox or Lysol wipes and nose plugs. read more

OK, for $10 a month, it is what it is... If you like Pilates/yoga/blah blah, then go somewhere else. This is a cheap basic gym that has weights, machines and tvs. Nothing special. It's best to come here during the early morning hours or on weekends. Better crowd control and atmosphere. I went to this location with my friend a few days ago. It was definitely crowded in there to say the least but it is also very convenient. I like that I can go before or after work, run back home if necessary, and go on with my day. The price and deals which are universal with all Planet Fitness branches are also a plus. It seems they will be adding an extension shortly. The desk staff do need to be a bit more on the hmmm "friendly" side of life but I was able to get in and get out with my workout no problem and they didn't really bother me much. What was I thinking!!!!! I swore I would not return to this god AWFUL gym due to my last horrible experience. This time was in the am....paper and water everywhere guess patrons are not properly mannered when throwing out used paper that it belongs in trash not the side. The smell of....pure shit hit me like a ton of bricks as I walked to and from machine. That alone should have been enough warning but because I wanted convenient I stayed. Then the icing on cake....went to restroom and water everywhere the spray that's used outside to disinfect was spilling on counter tops. Just started at Planet Fitness recently...I'm always on my "need to get back into shape/want a solid body" thing so finally joined a gym after years and being that I am on a budget PF was my best bet. A lot of people shit on PF because of its monthly going rate and the whole "you get what you pay for M.O." stigma that comes with this workout center (they don't like being called a gym if you see their latest commercials.) lol. Now mind you, haven't been going as much as I should or want to be going to really get myself back in the shape and tone of body that I wanna be so I am grading on a curve. Truthfully speaking, I joined 2 weeks ago and haven't been back since...lol. Not to any fault of PF's but a mixture of being busy/lazy/weather. Once the weather starts fairing out though I definitely will be going more. But for the one time I have been to this particular PF, don't see anything wrong with it for the time being. Being that PF is still fairly new (est. within the past 5 years or so) equipment is in fair condition. There are maybe 1 or 2 cycle and treadmill machines that need some fixing but that is typical for any gym....excuse me (workout center.) The staff gives a very good and detailed overview of PF, what they're about, the machines, the memberships and everything else that goes along with PF, so was very pleased with that. The locker rooms are sufficient. It does get crowded after working hours but what workout center/gym doesn't. Just deal with it. Very convenient being that they are open 24 hours Mon. - Thurs. and close at 7 I believe on the weekends which is not bad. They have a Vitamin Shoppe right by it...but also food places so if you do ever come here I suggest you suppress your temptation...(a Dunkin Donuts, burger place, Chinese food restaurant and other food places.) The only slight issue I have is the location...deep in Canarsie, so if you do not have a car you might get annoyed with the distance and transportation needed to get to PF, especially considering is that it is kind of in the cut and not easily visible upon finding. Other than that not a bad work out spot. Plan on sticking to it for at least a year and see where things go from there... read more

This is not the best Planet Fitness but it is far from the worst. The staff kind of mingle amongst themselves leaving you stnading looking like you're eavesdropping on their conversation. After about three minutes of standing there I was finally assisted. Aside from the staff at the counter there isn't anyone on the floor to assist you. The bathrooms were clean and there was enough machines available. Yes this place can get crowded but you should be able to get in a good workout (unless you're using the weights. It smells HORRIBLE a in here. This is the first gym I've gone to where I see people purposely line up for the free bagels or pizza. It's a bit small here. If you're looking for a cheap gym and you live in the Canarsie area, then by all means, do it. This is a cheap ghetto gym. Since it is new, the machines are still in good condition. If you are intimidated by men who look and act like they are on parolle, or gigantic women who have no manners, then you shouldn't go. Don't expect anything from the staff, anything. They have started putting attendants in the locker room, and now I see less bathroom stalls with two sets of sideways feet. Right now I like the new machines, and I haven't had any run-ins with the other customers. The price is right for the convenient location and ther new machines. If the machines start failing or it gets too ghetto I will have to find somewhere else. read more

This gym is beyond a convenience for me and the price it is enough to drive me wild. I disagree that the gym is always crowded because I have been there plenty of times during the day it is empty and I do not have to wait for any of the machines. Because of this gyms' central location though there are "rush hours" which is clearly to be expected it is the only gym in the neighborhood and the price is clearly right for everyone. With this gym it is all about timing whether you are coming when it is crowded and you are coming when it is thinning out just make sure if you want a continuous workout you stay on your machine until you are done and another is free (under crowded circumstances). People are pretty good about getting off of machines when they see people waiting so there is no problem. Some cons are the desk staff when the gym first opened I do not know what was really going on behind the desk they were talking laughing joking carrying on. I understand you want to be friendly with your coworkers and that is fine but if you see me standing there do not just ignore me and when i walk away you are calling me back. I am not here to stand around at the front I am here to work out thank you. Another con is that there is not enough variation in the machines but I suppose they were trying to have an even ratio of popular machine versus the population in the surrounding area. Con #3 the machines have tv attached to them but channel 6 does not have sound it is instead static I have not tried the radio so I cannot give a review on that one. Con #4 in the evening the garbage cans are pretty full and there is no one killing them I mean honestly there are so many people that are at the front desk you are telling me that not one of them can find it in themselves to move and empty the garbage. I mean honestly what is really in there minus paper towel that people use to clean the machines with or themselves. & last but not least I have only seen someone walking around with a machine cleaning the general floors once. Perhaps I do not go at the cleaning times but the place is generally clean given the amount of people that are always in and out. So I gave them 2 stars for location because it is the first brand name gym in the area and another 2 stars because of (1) the price of the membership and (2) the benefits that I get with my membership. I have the black membership and with that I can bring a guest with me anytime and I can also go to other gyms which is definitely a necessity for me. p.s. I saw some of their signs in an empty space in the strip so perhaps they are considering expansion to accommodate their future and current members. read more

Its definitely not my favorite gym . It could be better . I will say the main issue is that its always so packed however if you are an early bird like me and hit the gym at 5 am its heaven . Clean and not too packed , I highly suggest for you to avoid that gym during the week between the hours of 5 pm to 8 pm (its impossible to get a machine). The staff is polite and friendly , they just spend too much time playing at the front desk (instead they need to walk around and see what's needed ) But at the end you get what you paid for $10 / month membership (The only reason I am still a member is that the gym is 6 min away from my house and open 24 hrs) read more

was really excited to sign up for the gym.. this gym is more of a social thing. the "men" there stare at every woman that walks by, even if its an old lady. its annoying. i go there in baggy clothing all the time and a hoody over my head and big head phones. some one is always trying to talk to you or get at you. like can i please work out.. the machines look run down and the bike pedals need to be replaced. cant do an intensive biking workout if there arent anything to hold ur feet in. i feel like the staff is just there to make sure u scan ur card. patheltic. the weights are always being used literally for hours by the same people. like i said , its like a social gathering. thank the lord i have the black card. try going to a planet fitness in the city or even like east new york. so much better. they even look more luxurious. planet fitness...please do better. read more

I recently joined this gym because the location is convenient to me. I was somewhat disappointed because of these factors: 1. Not enough machines, I like to work on the oblique, but this is difficult to do, because this gym with so many members only have one machine for that part of the body. 2. There is no floor space to lie on to work abdominals. 3. Tanning booths that are under utilized since 99% of the members already have dark skin. I suggested to a supervisor that a steam room would be much healthier than a tanning booth, but she was very condescending, and "brushed me off". For now, I will continue with my membership, but at some point, if conditions do not improve, I might just take my business elsewhere, despite the location convenience. GS read more
