This also works out well for my family and I as we do a fair amount of traveling, both abroad and to the mainland. This YMCA location is great if you are staying in the Lake Carolina area of Blythwood. It's a bit off the beaten path, but it is an absolutely pristine facility. Since I swim for exercise, having a pool available when we travel is always a plus. The lap swim times and lane availability was plentiful. They also offer both a sauna and steam room (at least in the men's locker room), which makes for a nice lactic acid release after a great swim. If I were to move back to the Columbia area (I wish), I would strongly consider a home in this area and take advantage of their facilities daily.

They also have multiple dumbbell stations throughout, helps keep folk from stumbling over each other. Very friendly and helpful staff. I signed up for the 14-day trial and on my first day I felt absolutely so awkward & uncomfortable. This studio is definitely wasn't for me. I didn't feel welcomed by the other boot campers and felt like their are cliques. Would not be going back. Chairs for parents to wait on their athletes. Young or old, experienced or not, pro or amateur, male or female, near or far, this gym is very welcoming. Some people even drive as far as from Charleston just to go to this gym. We drive and hour and 20 to come here two times a week. During the school year, we stay in Columbia so my boyfriend comes here practically everyday. He loves working with the coach and the other athletes to get better and better and to work on his craft wih hard work and consistency.
