Don't judge but we are literally making a sign that is judging then assuming they're judging cuz of how they lift lollll

Ok so I signed up for planet fitness the other day then cancelled after my workout. The main reason I cancelled was because I hated the fact there was no true barbell rack, only the kind that you can lock in place that move along a track but there's no true free weighted barbell to use. My fault for not checking that before buying. The gym overall was nice, clean and the water bed massage table thing was cool. The reason for 1 star is planet fitness claims it's a judgement free zone in multiple places however, over by their alarm for loud noises/heavy weights hitting the ground, there's a large sign that literally stereotypes and Judges as to who would be the type of person to cause the alarm to go off. This is incredibly hypocritical. "Hey don't judge but also don't be a person who wears tank tops and drinks water out of gallon milk jugs who happens to be strong and can lift heavy weights possibly upsetting other people and because you look this way we are judging that you are one who judges" What a joke. I'll gladly drive the extra 10 minutes to crunch where this type of hypocritical stereotyping doesn't exist.

I first encountered Joe at the Mercy Healthplex in Anderson Township, where he was that facility's top trainer as measured by client revenue. After working with him for a few months, I realized why he was in such demand. Joe evaluates a client's stated objectives and the client's attitude and appetite for training, then provides an effective approach that doesn't overwhelm the client's ability to perform. In my case I asked Joe to keep it fresh, providing a variety of exercises to keep our sessions interesting. With his depth of knowledge, providing variety was easy for him. I never knew you could work so hard without actually touching a piece of iron. He introduced me to bands, balls and moves that relied solely on the weight of my own body, mixing these in with more traditional exercises using all of the equipment available at the Healthplex. Joe eventually opened his own practice, working out of a large, bright suite in an office building in the Cherry Grove area. I was skeptical, doubting that working with such a reduced array of equipment would be as enjoyable or effective. One session relieved me of those concerns. My workouts leave me both exhausted and energized, and I feel no lack of equipment or variety. I bring my ipod, which docks in Joe's sound system, so I work out to my own music. The smaller, quieter space actually allows for more communication and less distraction. Finally, I would point out that, as an older client (over 60), my body is more prone to injury. Joe's work with me has never produced an injury, but he has often had to work around injuries (usually inflamed tendons and ligaments) and help in facilitating their repair. That kind of skill is invaluable to me at my age. In summary, anybody with a certificate can load a barbell and play drill instructor. The true professional produces consistent results while sustaining the client's commitment to a program. Based on my experience, Joe Moses is best in class.

What cause me to cancel my membership was another member whom I had never seen in the facility before (I assume he is a new member) threaten to "to get his gun and blow my brains out" in front of my (2) daughters and other members. I reviewed the Code of Conduct in the membership agreement and this behavior is against company policy. I asked Kathy the front attendant to contact Union Township Police and reported the incident. I was under the impression Management will deal with the incident accordingly. Following a week of business travel and a week away for the Holidays, my daughters and I was working out in the gym when the girls whispered ... "Dad that guy is back ... I thought they said he would not be allowed back!" They both started to feel extremely uneasy so I went to the front to ask the attendant (Beverly) why was he allowed back. She had no clue about the initial incident or what I was references. I told her I need to make arrangements to cancel. She told me when the GM would be in the office again and I said I will speak with her (Terri) as the next step. I then waved to my girls to come along so we could exit the facility. While in the car pulling away, my daughter mentioned that the gentleman commented to her (once she walked by) ... "Tell your dad I will see him later!" I immediately turn the car around to report the matter to Beverly. As I was entering the building the gentleman appeared behind me combative with additional words and threats to cause harm. I am a 14 year U.S, Marine and it took every fiber of discipline within my being to not engage this person and take the high road approach. Terri was on vacation and wasn't available for the next 2 days. I learn this when I returned as Beverly had suggested when Terri would be in again ... only to learn she was still on vacation. Kathy was there and she chimed-in on the conversation. Kathy stated "Yes what I didn't understand is the guy seemed to be concerned about his daughters and I was thinking all along "Then, why don't you just leave!" I had to explain to Kathy in front of her co-workers that her facts may be mixed ... that I am the one with the daughters. No one in the building had any account of the threat and incident with specific knowledge and facts. From someone whom has opened and managed 7200 Starbucks and 60+ Apple Stores, I was shocked to learn and realize their cavalier attitude over someone's threats of shooting one of their regular members. Once Terri and I connected face-to-face, I was shocked to learn that she knew very very little of either occurrences. She mentioned to me that she had no (0) report or documentation from Kathy on the original incident 3 weeks ago, no (0) police report from 3 weeks ago, and she had just received Beverly's report today from a few evenings ago. Adding insult to injury, Terri commented to me along with another MHP employee that UTP should have arrested both of us! Once she noticed my mouth falling open with shock and surprise from her remark and her employee's (witness) look of shock, she immediately attempted to back track. Clearly this organization did not take the gentleman's threat serious and didn't bother to document the situation. Terri (General Mgr.) attempted to assure me that she was planning to now conduct a thorough investigation into the matter by gathering statements, reports, and etc. now (3) weeks and another incident later. This organization should avoid putting regular members through such an experience without immediate and swift actions to honor and protect the membership agreement.

Bonus Mention: It's dog friendly! :) Adorable pups are allowed to join in. If you're looking for a seriously challenging workout and would love to get fit while surrounded by trees, grass, fresh air and the gorgeous outdoors (sometimes a river view!), you've found it! Not only do you get a great workout, you get to meet a group of welcoming, encouraging folks and get personal one-on-one help from an experienced, knowledgeable instructor. Prior to ELMNTL Fitness, I was someone who kept to herself as far as workouts. At the gym, I kept to myself and usually only hit up treadmill machines. I'd go for solo runs or home workouts. I didn't know much about how different workouts affected and helped different muscle groups. I avoided people and didn't challenge myself to try new moves. Since ELMNTL Fitness, I've discovered so much - about outdoor workouts, about different workouts and how they affect my body, about how a friendly, welcoming group of folks can add to my workout experience, my body and my strengths + weaknesses. My husband convinced me to go to an ELMNTL session in winter of 2012. How he got me to get up for a 5:30 a.m. session in the cold I don't know, but I attended the first workout and was nervous as could be. I knew I was in a group of people who attended regularly and was incredibly self-conscious - of my body, my fitness level, and being judged for all of the above. Kevin, the instructor, welcomed me (as did his adorable dog Mason) and was very friendly! I attended my first session and was floored about how kind everyone was - even though many of them are in peak physical condition, they all cheered me on even though I know they could do far better than me. No judgement, no criticism - just acceptance and encouragement. I have to admit - first workout was brutal, but it was an all-over body pain that, while uncomfortable, made me feel great in what I'd done and that my entire body was getting worked out! My usual go-to was running, and you don't feel the great full body exhaustion you get after an ELMNTL workout. I've been attending fairly regularly since then, and while there is usually a mix of regular attendees and new folks, everyone is so welcoming and supportive! We all encourage each other no matter where we're at physically. The workouts themselves are always changing, which I love. I'm easily bored with workouts and usually once boredom sets in, I quit. I need variety as it keeps my interest and Kevin is always changing it up! Sometimes the workouts are cardio-intensive, sometimes a mix of cardio + strength, and one thing I love about ELMNTL is that Kevin will literally demo + explain each move to let us know what we're working out and how to correctly work out. He also keeps an eye out for bad form - while he's not over my shoulder the entire workout, he is definitely looking out for each person and helps correct my form to prevent injury. I'm very thankful for that as correct form has always been a struggle for me (especially when I worked out by myself at home). The workouts are fantastic and change to accommodate each season. They're challenging and Kevin works to tailor each session with custom workouts to challenge each person and the group. I've noticed serious improvement in my body and also in my physical capabilities since attending - definitely built some muscle and can do many more pushups and walking planks than when I first started! And for a dog owner like me, it's great to have an opportunity to bring my pup out with me! He loves it just as much and gets a chance to run around with me. Thanks to Kevin for being so dog-friendly! Besides the great improvement in my health, body and fitness level, I've also had such an increase in my confidence level. I never believed I could do what I've found I can with ELMNTL workouts - from monkey bar swings to rope climbs to hill sprints, I have such a feeling of accomplishment after every workout, even if I'm not the best at them. I have a newfound confidence and appreciation for myself for both my physical strength and capability as well as my mental attitude - I find I'm more excited and ready for challenges and feel a belief and faith in myself I did not have before.
