Tried to go tanning and was told that I CAN'T because I went within 24 hours. I went tanning Saturday at 3:19pm and it's now Sunday at 1:00pm. I said well it was an entirely different day & staff usually just waive's it - as it's a 2 hour difference- the front desk staff member said to me "Well I can't because I don't want to get in trouble". I said ok well nobody has ever told me I had to wait through the 24 hour cycle so how about I speak to a manager- her reply was there's no manager here. And that was it. Once again DID NOT EVEN ATTEMPT OR TRY TO appease the customer AT ALL. Did not apologize, didn't even TRY to get in touch with a manager. Just ignored me & then started scanning other customers into the gym. She might as well have thrown me the finger and told me to screw- she was that rude and COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL.... USUALLY a manager or staff member would try to work with the customer or develop some type of SOLUTION. NOT HERE!!!! I think high school students have better etiquette with customers then the rude front desk staff at planet fitness. As a black card member who comes here almost daily to go to the gym and/or tan this is HORRIBLE customer service and it's NOT the first time I've been treated POORLY by staff. I let the first time go, second time I got upset and wrote a review but updated it because everyone else after that point was so amazing I figured why let one bad apple ruin the bunch,but here we are AGAIN.... I'm seriously thinking of cancelling my membership at this point. They clearly don't value or respect their members!!! It's UNACCEPTABLE to be disrespectful to loyal paying customers. How about an apology AT THE VERY LEAST???? I'm sick of coming here (wasting gas time and energy) only to be told NO... How about staff gets on the same page or maybe trying to ENFORCE your policies because I've had staff override that MANY TIMES!!!!! Or just a simple "I'm sorry but that's the policy and without management here I can't do any manual over-rides...." CUSTOMER SERVICE 101 people!! I was a member years ago from when they first opened. It was so much nicer here than my old place. I stopped coming here because I joined the Y for my kids. It was nice there. I told myself I would go. As nice as it was, I was never as comfortable as coming here. Also the hours just don't work for me. I'm back, and it's just as great as ever. During this Covid, this gym has been great. The Staff has been helpful and friendly. The cleanliness is what kept up at all its standards. The people that go to the gym are also respectively of every one space. Regardless of how busy it is. There are so many different types of equipment you can use. *NOTE* - I am not a member of this gym, I am actually a member of LA Fitness. However, A friend from work is a member here, and I join her a couple times a week as a "guest" to workout with her. Been going since the winter and over-all this is a good/decent gym esp. for the price. Unfortunately, just like most, I go after work around 5pm-ish and there aren't enough free weights available and many times I find myself using the machines rather than the free weights until they become available. My suggestion would be is to add another weight station and take away some of the cardio machines (there are MORE than plenty for use - you'll never have to wait for any of them, no matter which type you prefer). Also, the air flow in one of the workout rooms with the PF 360 gym (wicked cool) is horrible and it smells in there... please get a fan in there!!! The locker rooms/showers are always clean and the staff is super friendly. I just hope that the manager will address these minor issues because those little changes would make a big difference in the experience here! Always plenty of parking, too. I wouldn't hesitate to join, just be mindful what time you go if you want to use the free weights.... read more

You'll know that I'm not biased, because to start off I hate going to the gym. I love how you feel after a good workout but going to the gym is not my thing. I only ever join the gym to get in shape for derby. That being said, this is the best Planet Fitness I've ever used. The facilities are all brand spanking new...I'm pretty sure the building was a grocery store or something before because it's Huge. The locker rooms have that fresh wood cabinetry smell, yes THAT new. There is a special section for "Black Card" members that has tanning beds, massage chairs and some sort of "Total Body Enhancement" machine that somehow makes your ass firmer and more attractive just by vibrating you in a booth full of lightbulbs. I was confused, but I don 't have a black card anyways. You know that cool ab sliding machine that every gym only has one of and everyone is always in line to use? They have two. And the Glute machine is conveniently located in the corner pointing AWAY from everyone so you don't have to feel self-conscious as you struggle to flex your butt. The treadmills and elipticals all have iPhone/iPod connection docks that allow you to plug your headphones into the machine itself so you can switch between your music and the TV programming without switching ports. Sweet! (maybe I'm easily thrilled). My only complaint was that the treadmill I picked was not quite level. Oh and the stretching room is kinda small... Three people in there is OK. Four is pushing it. Five is totally creepy. This aside, the place is super clean and I recommend it. read more

Out of all the PF's I've been to, this one is definitely my favorite. The entire facility is extremely clean and all of the staff are friendly. I switched from the Providence location because this one was a huge step up. This particular gym has a bunch of perks that really make the black card membership worth it. They have professional tanning beds, intense massage chairs, hydro massage beds, and a red light therapy/total body enhancement room. The red light is great for your skin, and the plate that you stand on vibrates your whole body and works out various sets of muscles. Honestly, the black card price is worth it just for the tanning and red light therapy. I also love that this gym has a 12 minute abs room in addition to the 30 minute express workout. I just wish that other gym patrons would respect those that are trying to properly utilize the circuit workout rooms. There are a handful of regular meatheads that love to sit in the 30 minute room and use the bicep curl for 20 minutes. They also have a huge variety of cardio machines: treadmills, arc trainers, ellipticals, bikes and stair masters. There are weight machines as well as free weights, and there is an area for pull ups and sit ups. They also offer small group classes and personal training, although I have yet to take advantage of either. This place has pretty much everything you need. I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a cheap place to help them stay in shape. There are mostly beginners and average folks at PF, so if you are a body builder or athlete you should probably go elsewhere. Most of the machines only go so heavy because PF doesn't want "lunks." Weights aren't my thing and I huff and puff when I run, so this "judgement free" gym is my cup of tea. read more

When I came in to sign back up after I cancelled a couple months ago, I reunited with Al! He gave me a tour of the gym, got to sit on the new hydro beds!! Also got booked with the trainer and everything is going great. The trainer wrote out a work out routine for me, very respectful fellow. I like doing my own thing but once I want intense training, I set up appointments with the trainer, the best part about it is that its FREE!! The staff are very caring, always saying hello and asking me how my day been. But WOW! I cannot remember the kind woman's name who is always cleaning but I truly appreciate all that is being done. The place kind small compared to other Planet Fitness I've gone too. The stuff mainly stays at the front desk instead of at least one of them walk around to be friendly and or check on the people. The ladies bathroom/ locker area was a bit unkept. The best time is 7pm so far not too many people. read more

Horrible customer service! I canceled my gym membership over 3 months because I had moved to Boston and due to the corona virus I was unable to cancel in person as I live in a different state. The "manager" assured me it was cancelled but I just got hit with another charge! I called to dispute this issue with Planet Fitness and the kid I spoke to said he will "kindly waive the cancellation fee for me, but can not reimburse me for the recent charge". LOL!! Waive the cancelation fee I already cancelled my membership months ago! What a joke of an establishment run by a bunch of kids. I will be taking my business to a more professional gym. read more

It is a clean place, but a lot of the cardio machines are tired. Some of them make creaking and banging sounds. Sometimes it takes me a few attempts to get a machine that works well. Also, I tried to read the news from my favorite source, but strangely found it blocked. When I went to Fox "News", by way of comparison, it worked just fine. Just took my 11 year old son who has a weight problem and wants to lose weight. They said he was not allowed because he was too young. This is odd since my wife and I have taken him before. Their professional reply to this was someone must not have been doing their job. Funny that an establishment that promotes good health turns away a child wanting to get in better shape. I am a pe teacher and see first hand the obesity problem facing the youth of today. Seems like planet fitness could do something to help our youth instead of just taking money and their employees sitting behind a desk. read more

I've gone to a lot of gyms in RI and MA but this one is pretty much my favorite. I don't have a membership but a friend of mine is a black card member and brings me as her guest a few times a week. The place is super clean, the staff greets you on the way in and the way out and they have massage chairs and beds!! The bikes charge your iphone and there are a ton of TV's and always something to watch while you slave away doing your cardio. There is plenty of parking, they keep the air conditioning on high and all of the equipment works! If I were to join gym right now it would definitely be this one. I live in Providence but this place is worth the extra few minutes to get there! read more

This is the 5th planet fitness I have been a member of and by far the nicest and cleanest! It's brand new very clean and friendly staff. This planet fitness is a fkn joke, canceled my membership last year in April and the they continued to charge me... I noticed the charges just the other week. they owe me well over 300.00. Contacted them and they had the nerve to tell me nothing could be done because i lost my receipt and they had nothing documented in there system. so basically i was told i was lying. My husband called and the jackass ( Jae)which he had the fkn balls to tell him that he could speak to me how ever the fuck he please. The facilities here are nice and well taken care of. At times it is incredibly crowded and near impossible to get to the necessary equipment to complete my workout. It gets much worse when the staff is conducting group classes in central areas of the gym allowing attendees to just sit and chat on the equipment they are monopolizing. The staff is very friendly overall and you do get a sense they care about cleanliness. I do find their lunk alarm very obnoxious. I have never set it off but I have seen people who are in excellent shape have the alarm go off simply because they are lifting heavy weights. That is also a form of body shaming and should be discouraged as everyone is there to better themselves. I can forgive many of the negatives I have mentioned as I do have enough equipment at home to supplement my workout when they are crowded. I will say that they really need to turn on the air conditioning. The temperature lately has been completely ridiculous and unhealthy and flat out dangerous especially to clients who may be pregnant or have any type of medical conditions. read more

I bought a year's membership in January. I moved and tried to transfer to this one. Not only was I told to transfer 3 different ways but when I finally got a reply it was not a confirmation but a rejection. It stated that I had already paid my membership to another gym and so I would have to PAY AGAIN in order to use this gym as my home gym. One of the benefits I thought I had with Planet Fitness was that I could go to different ones with little to no hassle, apparently not. I will not pay twice for the same service. Absolute worst customer service and people skills you will find any health club in New England. Stay far far away from the manager April as she is only out to get your money. If you choose to be one that joins this gym make sure you read the disclosures very carefully as it is extremely misleading and misconstrued in to the customer. There is plenty of people out there that belong to this gym that are getting their accounts hacked every single month by planet fitness because you need the need to send a certified mail or go into the club directly in order to cancel your membership. By allowing this we are keeping these corporations in business. The consumer has a right to know that these gyms are simply owned by franchises and not one large corporation. Therefore some seem to make their own rules and therefore don't allow any room for flexibility. Overall, I like the gym. The staff is nice and the restrooms are clean, however, my one pet peeve is there are no signs to wipe the equipment down after use, and sweaty stinky men use the equipment and then don't wipe it down. In addition, when in the 30-minute workout area, certain people will just hop on one machine and bounce to another and cut right in front of you instead of using the machine behind you. Come to planet fitness in Johnston with whole family the staff is very friendly greet you coming in and acknowledge you when you leave they are always cleaning and the place shows if something breaks or get worn its repaired it doesn't have some things you could use but it is very well set up to get a great workout if you know what to do and if you don't James the trainer that works there is their for you I see some of his classes and he is a real class act he works with all levels of fitness I see him go above and beyond working with members with disabilities very impressed with the whole operation at planet fitness in Johnston read more
