This gym is awesome. It's affordable and the people that go here are friendly. I don't see a need for Golds or more expensive gyms. There are enough "serious" lifters to make this enjoyable. read more

I've been to a number of gyms over the years, and I have to say this Planet Fitness location stands out in the best way. First off, the selection of equipment is solid--everything you'd need for a good workout--and what really impressed me is that the machines are always in working order. If something does break down, it's fixed almost immediately, which is rare in most gyms. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful, greeting you with a smile and happy to assist if you need anything. But what really sets this gym apart is the cleanliness. For a Planet Fitness--or honestly, any gym--this place is incredibly clean. The staff is constantly walking around cleaning, wiping down machines, and organizing weights. That level of attention to detail really surprised me in the best way. They clearly take pride in keeping the facility looking great, and it shows. Their work ethic deserves recognition, and I just want to say thank you to the entire team for making this such a positive place to work out. read more

I like this gym it's one of the best planet fitness I've ever visited. The equipment is well maintained and the staff is friendly. But for some reason they've taken away the alcohol gel dispensers everywhere in the gym but at the front door. I asked the people at the desk and they said management took all of them out but there was no explanation. They are making people wear masks! This is so dangerous to your health. In Putnam county it is not mandatory to wear a mask. I need to find another gym! Ask for a vaccination card! In response to the commenter: Putnam a county opted out. This is your decision as a company. And when I came in I asked for a mask and was told you had NONE left. How do you want people to comply but then not provide masks... Being a newbie, Planet Fitness [Mahopac] is a moderately sized gym right on Rt 6 -- easily accessible. Initially before I had signed up the worker behind the desk appeared hesitant to permit me to walk throughout the facility -- wanted to see its cleanliness and/or the possibility oF decommissioned machines. After finding my name in the database from a prior membership they gave me access. I don't blame them for beIng hesitant. Only 2 drawbacks that I can say for now: No Emergency Contact info was reqUired of you to fill out. What if yOu urgently need your next of kin and are unable to do so yourself? That can be scary! I just experienced rudeness by the front desk employee (male with long hair up to ears wearing big stud earrings) at the Planet Fitness in Mahopac. I am a local parent and got a Black membership for my teenage daughter so I can workout with her or she can bring a friend to work. Today, I walked in my 2 teenagers for them to workout, he asked a question at first I did not understood. He rolled his eyes and shook his head. I told him I had a Gold's membership, instead of saying a Black membership, he rolled his eyes again. I told him I have the membership on my daughter's name. And that both my teenagers are gonna work out today. I'm dropping them off, but I would like to use the restroom and go back to the car. He asked me if I've ever worked out there within the last couple of months and I said number and I came back from my daughter's name, but of course because I have everything on my credit card, etc. he again for the third time, rolled his eyes and shook his head and told me I need to sign a waiver in order to use the bathroom. The rolling of the eyes 3x and the shaking of the head was so unnecessary, not professional and rude especially since I've been a member there in the past and currently have a black card membership. I'm a black card member and have been to numerous PF in NY and other states. With the possible exception of Milpitas, California (hey, it's California!) this one is my favorite. Clean, spacious, and airy. Plenty of equipment, nice staff, and courteous members. Some reviewers have complained about mask compliance. Considering that mask wearing has now been proven to be political theater, I'm pleased that the staff aren't acting like the mask police. If any infections had been traced back to PF I'm sure the Cossacks would have closed it by now. If anything should be enforced it should be the dress code. Joined two weeks ago, been there 6 times have yet to see anyone cleaning anything. I've seen people without properly wearing masks or at all... some machines don't work and the ones not in service (socially distanced) seem to work as the Tv is on. I paid for the year up front, in hopes that this would encourage me to keep going, yet I'm feeling so discouraged, the place just doesn't feel clean and I have to keep looking for a cardio machine that works properly. Joined 4 years ago shortly after it opened. Always paid my bill. Never missed. During COVID they stopped billing me so I assumed they canceled my membership. Went back in January, rejoined. Then they started billing me twice. I noticed after the annual fee was charged twice on my bank statement. Called to inquire, was told I had 2 accounts. 2 ACCOUNTS FOR THE SAME PERSON, at the same address with the same bank account. So I asked for a refund they told me I would get no refund but could cancel one of the accounts. After I paid 50$ extra for a second account they never told me I had. Man was very rude about it and spoke to me like I was my fault for signing up for 2 accounts to the same gym. Canceled both memberships. Shame too. I like going there. read more

PF (Mahopac) - ALWAYS CLEAN, ALWAYS FRIENDLY - Called to inquire about a charge and got Erica on the phone. She was pleasant, helpful and very informative. She explained the charge and chatted with me - no rushing off the phone. I asked about working out with masks and she provided helpful info from her personal experience. I was thinking about getting rid of my membership, not because of anything PF has done, but b/c of masks. And, to be honest, I'm quite lazy. Great Gym! As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a smile....Equipments are maintained, kept clean and bathrooms too. Every time I go to PF (Mahopac) members and staff have always been courteous. Just recently I accidentally dropped my property which fell into a VERY hard to reach area...I reached out to staff who immediately came to my assistance. I applaud them all! I have been attending this Gym for about 2 weeks and I will say that the gym is nice on the surface. The mens locker room is dirty and the showers are just as bad. For 3 straight days I've noticed dirt and garbage by the same locker I have been using and paper in the shower in the same spot. Obviously no one is cleaning the locker room or the showers. This is unacceptable. At such a time as this. This should not be. We need the locker room and showers disinfected daily. read more

The staff does not appear to be enforcing the mask rule that is posted on their door. Five masks of patrons were down at their chins today, and in full view of front desk staff. Are they told to not enforce their own rule and that of the state mandate? Once a few don't wear the mask properly, others are more likely to ignore it, too. This Planet Fitness is one of the best I have trained at. It is large enough to provide an adequate amount of machines and cardio options for the money. I am a Black Card member and have used many other of their gyms for comparison. The only recommendation I have is to open earlier on the weekends. Members could take a little better care of the equipment. Other than that, I strongly recommend as an affordable gym option. read more

Great gym and you'll be shocked at how nice it is. I only have great things to say about the location and it's cleanliness. The only complaint I have is the water fountain. This is the only club where the water is a room temperature with no cooling at all. If this is fixed the location would get 5 stars which is an amazing feat for a Planet Fitness. read more

snakes snakes snakes.. This company is disorganized. I was billed by two locations and the next day they closed for covid. Naturally I disputed the charges with my bank. Then three months later I got charged again. When I called to tell them I've never used their gym and could they please refund my money they laughed and hung up. STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE.. Place is convenient for me as its close to home, clean environment, people are nice, have yet to hear somebody grunt, slam down an equipment, or see that clunk/lunk or whatever is called alarm go off. The entire staff at Planet Fitness in Mahopac especially the Club Manager Erica deserve to be recognized for their outstanding effort. During the entire pandemic I have felt secure in working out at PF Mahopac mainly because of the cleanliness and strict adherence to rules that were enforced by Erica and staff. They made sure that everybody wear their masks at all times and properly and that everyone followed the sanitary guidelines of cleaning the equipment after use. The place is spotless and immaculate and every piece of equipment is well maintained and functioning properly! It is dedication and professionalism from Erica and staff that make me want to highly recommend Planet Fitness to everyone I know and continue to be a member. Very disappointed how they handled my billing after reopening. I moved out of state mid pandemic. I tried to reach them by phone and email during closure to close my account. Once they reopened I was charged my annual fee plus a late fee for an amount they already took out! I spoke to the manager who said my refund was taken care of and on the way. After a few months, still no refund. So I called back to follow up twice. They assured me refund was on the way. 6 months later nothing. Now the manager will not even speak to me, passing me off to district manager. All calls go straight to voicemail. Been over a month no call back. Poor customer service post pandemic. read more

This place is run by kids who are extremely rude and don't know how to be professional. Customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. I've called Corporate and opened a case against this location. I've also wrote to the BBB and file a complaint. I had no intention of renewing my membership due to COVID. I have not gone to the gym since it re-opened. I received a $39 annual fee charge automatically to my checking account and the club refused to refund it even though it was within 18 days of posting the charge to my account. PF does not send you notifications when payments are due or notify you that payment has been collected. No wonder they do not accept credit card payments because then the client can contest the charge. I realize this gym is reasonably priced but this annual fee/no refund policy is a rip off. Oh and did I mention that you need to go to the gym in person or send a certified letter to cancel your membership? So inconvenient. read more

This is all I'm going to say about the gym and it is entirely unrelated to actual gym 'stuff.' I had used the tanning machines (stand-up) here on more than one occasion... but I stopped using them after I realized that after each use, no one from the staff cleans or wipes down the machine. Doesn't sound too wild, right? WRONG. Tanning beds are breeding grounds for germs- just think of someone, undressed, standing barefoot in a heated room for nine minutes. Think about the hairs and sweat that might fall off of someone's body onto the floor. And then the next user, steps right onto that... and then the next person... and so on and so forth. Get the picture? By the fourth time I got in there, I had finally had enough- the floor was sticky and there was hair stuck to it. The garbage can was overflowing with tanning oil packets. I'm not even that big of a germophobe- I just know for a fact, that in regular tanning salons, the staff is REQUIRED to wipe down any and all tanning equipment immediately after use. I understand that the walk from the front desk to the back of the gym is long and it would probably get annoying for them to keep doing repeatedly during the day- and I'm not being sarcastic either- it would annoy me if I worked there! But is has to-MUST- be done. Someone will sadly end up contracting a fungus or some sort of infection. Final note- the gym itself is kept impeccably clean and the staff is ALWAYS nice. We have been to many PF locations along the east coast, ranging from Rhode Island to North Carolina, and this is by far the best! After withdrawing my membership from the Danbury location because of the poor management and filth (please see review), we happily signed up with the Mahopac location. Every time we walk in, the place smells freshly-cleaned. Day after day, we notice that cleanliness is on the forefront. Each towel station is always maintained with paper towels and 2 spray bottles to ensure people have ample opportunity to wipe down machines. There are some customers who do not wipe the machines down after use, but unfortunately that happens at every location. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. Every time we are there, we always see staff members moving about the gym attending to cleaning and maintenance, and not just sitting around the front desk. This gym is extremely well-managed and we enjoy the value of our BLACK GOLD membership. Planet Fitness of Mahopac is top of the line! read more

Convenient, Clean, and friendly staff. Very nice gym to work out in, there are always machines available. The 30 minute workout area is pretty good and nice to have. The one thing I'm disappointed in is that they do Not have any trainers available. I would love to work with a trainer from time to time. read more

i do not recommend this gym. it is just ok to workout but if you a problem with your payment or they over charge you for not reason, they will take for ever to give your money back. very disappointed with the stuff of this place. make sure that they do not charge twice and if they do you .. sorry but it will be hard to get your money back. read more
