The most run down planet fitness I've been to. The owner doesn't seem to care about this location at all. I'd go to either PF's in Revere.

Here is the story : basic crowded ,clean ,you ll have to wait sometimes,but guess what you don't need the fancy equinox to get yourself ripped- you just need to hit the gym 5-6 times a week a cut the bullshit - no personal training will do the lifting for you ! I've been using this location since 2020 largely due to convenience. People sitting on the equipment on their phones. Machines regularly broken due to allowing members to abuse them. Dirty and crowded at most times. The final straw was when I was physically threatened for asking someone not to slam the weight stack on the cable machine. After reporting it to on duty staff, the response was "there's nothing we can do." Well there's something I can do. Quit. You get what you pay for! Don't waste your money. EDIT/UPDATE: Dear "management team" (thanks for the info on how contact them: YOUR staff told me I could cancel my membership if I didn't approved how things were handled. So I did. Was gonna give another try but quit my membership in writing after I got "Community Aquired Pneumonia"! And I went with can of Lysol every day. People aren't clean. The liquid they provide is pink water. Cleaner at a dog park. Not going again. Prices went way up. Equipment is frequently broken. Unless you tan alot, black card is a waste of money. If you're in the market for a gym that specializes in frustration and incompetence, look no further than Planet Fitness - It's been nearly two weeks of banging my head against the wall, trying to get some semblance of help from both Danvers and Malden locations. I've called each club more times than I can count, and what do I have to show for it? Nothing but frustration and a sinking feeling of regret. Picture this: You sign up, excited to hit the gym, only to find out their app has a mind of its own and assigns you to the location furthest from your home. No biggie, right? Wrong. When you try to fix it, both Danvers and Malden pass the buck faster than a hot potato. You'd think a simple transfer between two branches wouldn't require a degree in rocket science, but apparently, it's beyond the capabilities of the staff at either location. And don't even get me started on Manager Silvia - her attitude made me feel like I was begging for a favor instead of trying to resolve an issue caused by their own system. After countless calls and zero progress, I reached out to customer service for a glimmer of hope. Spoiler alert: there was none. But wait, it gets better. When I dared to call again for assistance, I got hung up on. And the cherry on top? When I finally mustered up the courage to ask for a refund - because let's face it, they had wasted enough of my time and energy - they had the audacity to tell me they would cancel my membership instead. How's that for customer service? Cancelling my membership for being the problem? I don't think so. But hey, the latest update is that I'll supposedly be getting a refund in a few business days. So, let's wait and see if they can actually deliver on that promise. I'm not holding my breath. Sorry, Planet Fitness, It's my right to get my money back for not even being able to make it through your doors. So, if you enjoy the thrill of being passed around like a hot potato, by all means, give Planet Fitness a try. Place is a joke. I've been a member since 2018, the policy of not bringing in outside equipment is ridiculous. I've been bringing in my weighted vest and jump rope for three weeks now and an employee tells me I can't use my jump rope. I informed her that I've been using it for three weeks now and she tells me that they haven't seen me, mind you I jump rope directly across from the front desk. Furthermore she goes on to tell me that I can jump rope outside, that's fine canceled my membership on the spot. Planet Fitness in Malden, Ma . In Terrible condition, signs of neglect and sanitation. Locker rooms are in real need of a redo, lockers are in awful condition.A couple of good staff Members , rest are luggage. Hardly a greeting coming or going, backs are to the members and they are usually on their phones. Floor matting condition are poor, rips tears and raises tears are an accident waiting to happen. Usually run out of paper towels until some says something to the staff in certain locations on the floor, near the Pect machine. No hand sanitizer first of all. The gym it's self is decent, but as a back card member im not satisfied.The tanning booth has holes in the ceilings which makes me very uncomfortable getting in and out of the booth. Other planet fitness has tanning supplies handy. No googles, no tanning lotion and no paper towels or spray equipment handy. I didn't see any staff cleaning any of the equipment, unlike other planet Fitness I've been to. The staff today acted like they were being bothered. My parents had a Horrible experience with this place yesterday (03/19). We know The policy say that the owner of the membership can bring a visitor, but since English is not my parents first language they did not understand all of the details of the policy... My parents had been going together for a long time, but today my father wasn't feeling well, so my mom decided to go by herself. She went in, scanned her tag, and when she was on the treadmill the worker came and told her she had to leave because she was the "guest" and not the owner of the membership. I do understand the policy, but this should have been handled in a much more professional way. Basically forcing my mom to leave the place, in front of everyone. Horrible way to deal with the situation, made my mom feel really uncomfortable and embarrassed, She called me crying. A year ago My wife signed up because of $10 monthly fee with no sign up fee. We only used the facility ONCE during the year. Today I saw (2) 39 dollar charges to my bank acct. I went to the gym and was told that I had no recourse. I asked for the manager Kristen and was told the same thing. When I asked for the corporate phone number she said there wasn't one but If I wished I could write an email to them. The Email address she gave me was for the Malden location. BEWARE! The free sign up is a come on and a trap. The customer service here STINKS! For $10 a month you can't beat this gym. Only problem is that it only has dumb bells and smith machines for bench press and squats. There are no bar bells and there is only one assisted pull/chin up machine. The lack of basic chin up bars really pisses me off. There are tons of treadmills for running and elliptical trainers. There is no classes in here at all, you are on your own. There is a lunk alarm that is supposed to go off if you grunt or drop weights, I've tried my hardest to set it off, but no luck so far. read more

I understand times are tough during covid but some things make no sense if you're going to open the gym up. For one how do you not have scales? How am I supposed to measure my progress if you don't have any scales? Where's the accountability? Also I brought a jump rope in because only like 10 cardio Machines are open at a time. I did about 20 jumps before someone stopped me and said I couldn't do that - "no equipment brought from home is allowed ." How does that even make sense, nobody else is touching my jump rope but me! I went to the Malden Planet Fitness to inquire about a membership. I asked about a trial so I could see what equipment is available and whether the gym is a good fit. I was told that I could purchase a 1-day membership for $20, which would be applied to the cost of a longer subscription plan if I chose to buy one. I bought the membership and I was very frustrated with the gym. Dumbbells only go to 60 lbs and there are no racks for squats, benches for bench press, etc. Basically, the weights are extremely limited. However, my main frustration comes from the $20 I paid to test the gym. I was told OUTRIGHT that there was no free trial, and that paying the $20 was my only option. That would be fine, except that I looked online when I got home and found an online offer for a FREE trial. When I called Planet Fitness in Malden and asked about a refund, I was told simply that they would not honor the deal listed online. The customer service that I experienced was dishonest and put profit before customer satisfaction. Even if I had been satisfied with the facilities, I would not use Planet Fitness again. A friend had the same frustrating experience. Spend a little more and use the LA Fitness in Saugus. It's nearby, and the equipment and customer experience have been far better. read more

So I'm currently in the military and I had notified the store manager that I needed to transfer my home gym to another state. She told me I had to pay the balance of which I did and she would allowed me to transfer, however the gym near me told me that the home gym has to submit the request, so I called her back. The manager instructed me to go online in which time I told her I had no access to. Long story short, I deployed for 6 months and I now owe planet fitness $200. If you're looking for a place with a crap-load of cardio equipment (...treadmills, elliptical, etc), you will be pleasantly surprised (maybe even elated?) when you walk into Planet Fitness. This place has rows (and I mean ROWS) of cardio machines open and ready for the taking. I tend to go during the off-peak hours so I've never had a problem securing a machine, but it might be a good idea to give them a call to see what the availability is like during peak hours. If you ask me, anything is better than waiting for a treadmill to open up at the YMCA only to relinquish it a mere 30 minutes later. Time limits do not exist here!!! In addition to a slew of cardio machine, they have a bunch of weight lifting machines (two rooms), a decent-sized free-weight area (the free-weight area is generally buzzing with ex-high school football players...), and a no-frills locker room. Seriously, though. What do you expect from a $10/mo gym? When it comes down to it, Planet Fitness is clean, friendly, and cheap. It gets the job done and I am proud to be a member. read more

Horrible. This gym is a rip off. Matter of fact any chain company is a rip off. Like any other franchise company, they will find any way to take your money. About 3 weeks ago I decided I want to cancel my membership because I don't have time to go to the gym anymore and I ask when I could cancel without having to pay a fee. If you have been a membership with them for more than a year then it's free and if not then it's either $58 or $59. So I had another 2 months left and I decided to wait and save myself $18. Apparently today I just found out after checking my bank account that every June 1st they make you pay a yearly annual fee which is $39. So I technically paid the annual fee and on top of my monthly ($20) which totals $59. So instead of telling me ahead of time that I could save myself some money when I could cancel it for free I pretty much just lost $18. In other words "Hey don't cancel your membership yet because it hasn't been a year, just wait till another 2 months and then you can do it for FREE, but we're not going to tell you that on June, 1st because when you signed up you agreed to it so you should remembered it a year ago! And there's a fee so that you will lose your money no matter what in the end because we just want to take every penny away from you, Thanks have a nice day!". It's all great and dandy when you sign up, but when you're trying to cancel a membership, Oh god forbid, it's like a nightmare. read more

Being that this PF isn't the best compared to Medford or revere makes it beneficial! While everyone is going to the better locations this one remains really calm and not so busy especially during that rush-hour time.. So I usually go around 3:30 every day to use cardio equipment for about an hour. There is always plenty of machines to use. I went around 5 once, and it was busy but I still had no problem getting a machine. A parking space, well that is a different story! It always seems like the machine you get on could be clean, but wipe it down first just in case. I'm completely lost when it comes to using anything other than an elipitcal or a treadmill, so I was thankful to discover that the employees there are very helpful and knowledgeable. There have been a few different ones that have helped me and nicely answered my questions about each machine. So is it worth $10 a month? I would say so. I wouldn't upgrade unless you want to bring a friend, as the tanning booths definitely leave you splotchy. read more

DISGUSTING LOCATION! Signed up in January and thankfully as a black card member I am able to use the Medford and Revere locations. (And I do, believe me!) but the condition of this location compared with almost every other Planet Fitness is pathetic and inexcusable. I pretty much stopped going to my home club despite the fact that I can crawl there from my apartment. Working out here is not a pleasant experience. Many machines require maintenance (Treadmills with belt issues, broken televisions mostly) which does not seem to be getting taken care of. The water bubbler has been broken for months now and I don't get the impression it's getting fixed. The locker rooms are disgusting, never cleaned out and there are NO PAPER TOWELS in the Bathroom. Even when there are paper towels there is no dispenser. Can you say Ghetto? Now go and check out the Malden and Revere locations before you sign up. No air conditioning, very dimly lit gym. When I come here it's hard to stay for a good workout as it is not really a comfortable/pleasant environment. Thank god for Revere and Medford! Customer Service is not an issue. Fab! I spend more money on dental care a month than I do at this gym. Machines are always avail - staff is super friendly, open 24/5. You can shower, you can tan, you can book a seat in a massage chair. If not - you can go in for 10 minutes, or 2 hours, and no one is looking at you twice. No fuss, no frills, just put on your headphones and get your cardio/weights in and move on with life. No it's not super modern, or trendy, and doesn't have any classes - but it's perfectly priced. I'm a fan. PS - People complaining about price is pathetic. Annual fee is $40 - by my math - most "good" gyms have you pay $60-175 a month, and let us not even speak about Crossfit. Writing 9 paragraphs about losing a whole $40 because you dropped out early - is sad. read more

I was appalled at the conditions of the showers in this gym. There were flys, no actual hooks, and no working shower heads. The least you could do is have 1 working shower stall. If you can't keep up with the sanitary conditions of the bathroom in a gym, then why have a gym at all? I might as well go work out in a park! I feel like I needed a shower after the halfa** shower at this gym. Disgusting! I came home and mentioned this to my fiance, and he said the male bathrooms are even worst. First off, why does the manager Kristen parking in handicapped parking when she doesnt have a sticker? In reading some of the other comments im glad to know I am not the only one who thinks the Malden location is disgusting. The showers are always gross. They don't clean them anywhere near as much as they should. Seems like only once a week. Also, you can't adjust the temperature or when the water turns off. Its been so hot before I couldn't even wash my hair, and I like git showers. The bathroom is pretty disgusting too. Also, they didnt have water one day. The toilets were getting backed up because they couldn't flush. The showers wouldnt work. How were they allowed to be open? Sounds like a health code violation and possible a fire code violation. This is the absolute worst gym I have ever been a member of. Kristen (the manager) routinely parks in the closest spot to the front door and chain smokes in her car. Having to walk in to a gym through that stench is bad enough, but things just get better once you're inside. There are usually ample staff members working, but everything is perpetually out of order. There have been several times that there is no soap in the bathroom. In the past, both water fountains were broken for about two weeks straight. The A/C is currently broken and has been so for a few days. The staff told me today that they're hoping to get it fixed some time next week. How are these issues not liability concerns? I have worked out in roughly fifteen Planet Fitness locations up and down the East Coast and this is by far the worst. Does anybody from corporate check this Yelp page? It seems almost everybody is having a universally bad experience. The Medford location is a much better option if you only want to spend $10/month on a gym membership. The sad truth is that this particular location has turned me off to the entire Planet Fitness brand. Not working out at all may be a better option than the Malden Planet Fitness. read more

I'm a fan of this P Fit location. It's one huge room chocked full of cardio equipment and a decent selection of weight machines. When I first starting coming here some of the machines seemed weathered and in need of some updating - but at some point in the past six months or so, they either got newer equipment or they fixed some of their more broke-ass machines. This place is pretty no-frills, but for the price it can't be beat. read more

I do not have much to base my review on as I have never been a member at any other gym (except for the one at school, but that was part of tuition), so therefore I have nothing today about value vs. price except that at 19.99 a month it seems reasonable. I have been going here for about 6 months with a brief hiatus for pneumonia and I can honestly say its good enough. It could do with a second floor to spread out the congestion that happens during peak hours (about 4:30 - 8pm), but as another reviewer said, off-peak its a little gem. Virtually no free weights, unless you know how to get creative with dumbbells, and the benches are guided which makes for safer, though less effective reps. However, as anyone (including their own advertising) will tell you--this is not a muscle person's gym. It is perfect for anyone looking to do some cardio and weights, circuits, etc. There are a few "strong" people walking around but the never intimidate and are pretty friendly and easy going. The staff is great and does the best they can to keep the place going given the amount of people coming through at peak hours. Paper towel shortages aside (they can't be blamed of members feel it necessary to mistreat the dispensers) the machines are maintained and everything is as it should be. Staff responds immediately to problems with equipment and is quick to greet. As you can see, there are a lot of positives to this gym if you are looking to keep/get in shape. If you're looking to bulk up, I'm sorry this one isn't for you. p.s. Parking can be a problem around peak hours so be warned. read more

My daughter, who suffers with a learning disability signed up at the Lynn MA Planet Fitness. She signed up for the black card paying $22.99 per month. She was told she could use any location. She went to Malden MA and they made her fill out paper work which she thought was just part of the process. She didn't know that they were going to charge her since she had a black card. This is the first time she has ever signed up for anything on her own. On February 10, 2020 she went into the Lynn Gym and cancelled her membership. In July when the gym opened Malden charged her $40.00 for an annual fee. They claimed she never cancelled. I have the paperwork showing she did cancel. They claimed they are a franchise and they don't communicate with each other so she didn't cancel with them so she has to pay. They claim they didn't know she had a black card which is strange because the card she showed them was black. They were also taking $10.00 per month out of her account which she didn't realize. So she was paying $32.99 per month. Malden told her she signed the paper work, she has to pay, they didn't know she was a black card member. They told me to call corporate. I called corporate, if you press the number for customer service they tell you that you have to contact your home gym and then they hang up on you. I proceeded to call back and pressed every number and each number said the same thing and then hung up. This is unacceptable and they need to refund the $40.00 and the $10.00 extra a month that they took out of her account. ] They are now avoiding my calls I find this outrageous.
