This was my first and last gym. Most others I've been a member of between experiences were much smaller and upscale, so it might not be fair to compare Planet Fitness to them, but that's the breadth of my gym going experience. I loved how everyone cleaned up after themselves and the 30 Minute circuit was an actual circuit at Planet Fitness back in the day. Now even regulars who've been going to this gym for years seem allergic to cleaning up their sweat, and it isn't enforced at all. I don't even see staff cleaning after themselves when they workout. The quickest way to offend those in the circuit area is to ask them if they can move so you can actually circulate. I haven't asked the staff to enforce it because they don't do that either when they are working out. The first time I joined the gym there was someone who tended to peek into the circuit area. She would say she didn't mind people choosing not to do the circuit but they needed to be mindful of those who are trying or she could help them find similar equipment to use outside of the circuit. She'd ask people to wipe down equipment before moving on If she saw them walking away. There is nothing like that at all now. Nothing is enforced. Equipment hogging throughout the gym can be annoying, especially if the person is just sitting and FaceTiming or watching TikToks for a half hour. I don't remember that being an issue when I first joined. There are a few customers who might try to claim three pieces of equipment by doing stuff like putting a phone, water bottle, and a key on each. I wish staff didn't allow that, but most customers are fine if you ask them if you can move their stuff for whatever amount of minutes you'd like to use the equipment. I've actually met most of my gym buddies that way. Ironically, I think most hog just to preemptively protect their workout time from the real hoggers. The only place I've really received pushback asking for someone to move their things has been in the circuit area. Most of the customers are friendly or at least neutral. There are times sexual harassment can be a bit much, but I've noticed most like that don't tend to stay at the gym long. The air can be hot and stuff for a gym, but I tell myself that's how PF keeps costs down. Staff are friendly. It isn't uncommon to see someone walking around with a Swiffer or a mop. The bathroom and changing area is almost always reasonably clean relative to the amount of foot traffic in and out. If it isn't clean when I walk in, it's clean by the time I leave. Gyms with much lighter foot traffic aren't as diligent about keeping the bathrooms clean. One thing I like about the renovation is that I feel as if there is more space to stretch and stuff without getting in anyone's space even at peak times. I never realized that I had been accumulating points to get free stuff at the gym until a staff member told me the program was going away. There wasn't really anything to get because others had been redeeming their points. That was a bummer because I had a ton of points. There is no more free pizza these days. It's been gone many years, but I still miss my slice of white. I appreciate the Tootsie Rolls, though. read more

While in upstate NY in Middleton, cuz and I got our work out on at planet fitness and my back and legs actually feel better after a lite workout .Friendly staff,plenty of exercise equipment, clean bathroom and locker room area , spacious workout area and place is kept organized and clean .Was able to get a lite workout in the morning without any issues with the many available modern workout machines .Good place to burn them calories any time of the day or night . 4.5 stars on my yelp meter . read more

I'm a fan of this franchise so I have no real complaints. This is the second time I've ever signed up with the franchise; previously at a different location. These places seem to be all setup in a fairly similar fashion and if your the Arnold Schwarzenegger type that could probably beat a human face like tenderizing meat then you probably should hit Gold's gym since that's the place I associate with jacked up men/women that could make mince meat out of a human. I'll stick to Planet Fitness cause I'm a lover not a fighter! ;o) Otherwise this place has tons of equipment; wether it all works is a different story but I only take advantage of the cardio stuff to burn the fat that's been creeping up on my waistline uninvited and the cardio equipment always seems to work when I'm there. I love the parking because often times these franchises share parking space with small shopping plazas making parking a tad hard at times but this location only shares a massive parking with a furniture store so parking is always really easy to find and good spots near entrance of gym. Sign up is a breeze which can easily be done online and when you check-in for the first time you simply scan QR code on your phone; they've made the process SOOO easy! I did get stopped first time for a mug shot but otherwise very seamless process compared to years ago when I signed up where I had to complete the process in-store after signing up online. Now it's pretty much an instant membership with only a simple mug shot needed on first visit. I've visited throughout the day and maybe I've been getting lucky but even with a half filled "crowd meter" the amount of visitors was never too bad. Well maybe not until New Years when everyone swears to lose weight and never follows thru. January and/or February is when crowds can be insane but it thins down by March/April when those folks fail a their New Years resolutions. read more

Disappointed in the renovated Planet Fitness in Middletown. The 30 minute area has been downsized so much that there are hardly any machines in there at all. On the other hand , there are so many machines in the main gym now that it's very crowded and everyone is on top of one another. The old gym was so much better. read more

Truly the best experience within a physical fitness gymnasium. Always clean and excellent atmosphere. Respectable and well mannered staff. Excellent attitude from the manager Mr. Mike with a positive attitude to members and his staff. There's always a machine ready for you to workout, they're state of the art and very well maintained. Their spa is limited if your looking for more but I'm not. I'm please with Tanning Tables, Full Body Enhancement Machine, Water Hydro Messager. Showers are fantastic and toilets are clean. The locker room is where you actually meet new friends. Bagel or Pizza Day are the events of the month. An excellent place to be read more

This place tries to keep abreast on only what they can walk to or and reach to clean. It isn't fair that we pay our monthly dues and have to deal with dirty lint balls that gather on lamp fixtures and ledges that are reachable by simply getting an extendable Rod or a Swiffer. FOR goodness sakes this is a franchise invest in a Swiffer. It doesn't help also that 7 machines are not working. I can understand mechanical things break down however I shouldn't have to go for a week with the same machine out of order. I really feel sorry for the people who have allergies as well as asthma and I think that the company should really take into consideration cleanliness on a whole different level. The last bathroom stall has been down. The bathroom was not attended to on this day within the 2hours i was there as a result nasty filthbuild, up no sign stating stall out if order. Just not fair!!! For a Planet Fitness this place isn't too bad. The locker rooms are big and spacious but there is a stank locker room smell- you know the dirty sneaker, sh|t smelling kind. Busiest hours are between 7pm and 11pm and you will be lucky to get a machine. Lots of meatheads at this PF compared to other locations- you know the kind who eat 20 raw eggs, 5 protein shakes, can benchpress a family of 4.... yet somehow look out of shape. So I said I'll start working out after 10pm. Dear god- place is still packed. I think it's more of an indication of how incredibly boring Middletown is rather than awesome this Planet Fitness is. But this place is the Tao of Middletown! It's popping on a Friday night. The staff- I think in the one month I was here, I had literally 1 staff member say hello to me. Granted I am here to workout and not make sweaty new friends- but a friendly welcome would have been nice. But most of the staff are millenials glued to their phones- probably making memes and snapchats about how their life is awesome being able to make memes and snapchat while at work! Pros: open 24 hours decent variety of equipment Cons: Crowded until 9pm Dirty, dank locker room Annual fee Cancellation fee with some contracts This Planet fitness is $10 a month like the other ones but there is a $10 startup fee, and $29 annual fee. It's 60% more than the $100 flat annual fee I got spoiled with at the Harlem Planet Fitness but it's still a good deal. The staff is friendly and the other members are courteous. I eventually quit because the location wasn't convenient for me. Luckily my contract didn't have a cancelation fee. My friend has a $60 cancellation fee in his contract so read your contract carefully. This location gets crowded so I tried to go after 9pm. The locker room was gross. The stink and humidity make you feel you've entered a sauna with a bunch of guys who were just in a White Castle garlic slider eating contest. There was toilet paper all over the floors, the garbage can was overflowing, and there was no soap in the dispensers. There was a Help Wanted sign for a bathroom cleaner so I guess that was their excuse. Later during the week I noticed some juicehead had ripped the soap dispensers off the wall. I imagine he ripped them off and handed them to the front desk and said "you're out of soap". Whatever happened, it worked because the next day there was soap. read more

My husband I have been with PlanetFitness for 3 years. 2 years at a location in another state and for the last year we chose to go to the PF in Middletown. PROS:This location has lots of cardio and cardio options as well as 3 rows of weight machines of the same machines...this eleviates wait times for machines. In fact, neither my husband and I have never had an issue getting on any machines and we go at various times throughout the week 4-5 times a week. The free weight area is usually a Mecca for groups of guys and yes, there are guys/girls that are bulked up. That doesn't make someone a "gorilla", everyone has their level of fitness and what makes them happy. As long as they aren't causing fights, shoving people or slamming weights. CONS: -I do agree that the 30 minute workout area isn't "policed" enough, the same machines are on the floor people! - the staff needs to be vigilant about walking the gym. Too many times I see people using equipment incorrectly that could injure them. - at times staff is just hanging around the desk seemingly goofing off when as other people have said there are empty bottles, dust, assisting someone on how to correctly use machines, empty cleaning spray bottles and/or paper towels. (can you invest in the little towels?) it seems to depend on who is working. GYM ETTIQUETTE: I also see too many people on their cell phones just sitting on equipment when it's clearly on signage to not use your cell phones. It's one thing to quickly check it or change a song, but you don't need to post to Facebook...if your in that good of shape ppl will take your word for it that you were in the gym today. ALSO: Please wipe down the equipment after you use it! I personally wipe before and after and it grosses me out to see people just walk away from equipment they leave all sweaty and disgusting. OVERALL - its a great deal for the price. Tanning, massage, free trainer and workout equipment. It's a gym - people grunt and sweat - working out is like making sausage no one wants to see that part. Clean up after yourself. Use common sense and when you first sign up - get with the trainer and sign up for some classes. read more

PF recently added personalized flat screen TV's on all of the cardio equipment. They also seem to have added a few more Cardio machines. During busy periods it can be difficult to find a machine, but I typically don't go during peak times so this is not a problem for me. The one funny thing about the flat screen TV's is that they are attempting to hawk the old tube TV's that they used to have hanging from the ceiling for $275 ea. A.) Who wants a TV that has been running 24\7 for the past couple of years? B.) Who is buying a tube TV these days (and paying $275 for it at that)??? Wake up PF, just chuck them in the dumpster where they belong!! read more

The free weights area sucks. There's only smith-machines and dumbbells. The rest of the gym is machine and cardio. No squat racks, no bench presses and no true pull up bars. I tried doing pull-ups on the machine and I hit my knees every time. read more

This is not a bad place for an affordable workout but the staff always appear unhappy, no one can ever give you a complete answer to questions, some machines are broken for long periods of time, the locker rooms are almost disgustingly unkempt and if you go for a scheduled class, many times no one is there to lead it. In short, they promise you everything to sign up but they do not deliver on the promises. I also saw a very young male(19?) "manager" arguing with a woman, openingly and not subtle about his point of view, which was more about looking good in front of 2 young girls working out at a nearby machine. I guess it's better than not going to a gym but there is a lot of room for improvement and it should start with the staff, who should be more approachable, helpful and eager to make your experience a positive one. read more

I had a staff member, Kate (KATYLN), be EXTREMELY condescending to me and a friend who just moved into the area and was thinking about joining the gym. I drive 20 min to workout at this gym but Kate's insulting remarks had me decide to leave without working out. I'm not sure if she was upset she had to work on a Saturday night but that was no way to treat a human. Also, a few months ago I heard a staff member say racist remarks to a friend of mine and then say "it was a joke". I have been going here for years and the staff used to be great but now they just seem to want to get paid to insult and speak down to you. Thinking about joining the new gym that just opened up on the next street (crunch) just so I don't have to pay a membership fee be spoken rudely to by someone like Kate (katlyn) again. read more

I kind of cringe whenever I have to come here. It's the no judgement zone that judges people by labeling them lunks, meat heads, and setting off alarms. I would have bumped this up to 3 stars but they just got rid of all their free weight benches. It does have a ton of treadmills, tons of nautilus machines, dumbbells that go up to 100lbs I believe, a nice locker room, a 30 min workout center and is open 24/7. Oh yeah and it is pretty cheap. For the 24/7 access I may think of becoming a member. read more

I would have given it 5 but for some reason Planet Fitness corporate decided to take the barbell bench presses out of the gym. I guess it was attracting too many meat heads. Oh well, I just had to do bench on the Smith machine. Also the dumbbells only go to 75 lbs. The place is clean, the equipment is nice, and the staff very friendly. The thing I though was interesting was their having a table of Dunkin Donuts food in the gym as a show of appreciation for their members. At the same time over the sound system they were announcing free pizza Fridays. Not exactly the healthful food that promotes fitness. Ingenious customer retention strategy though. read more

Planet Fitness was recently remodeled so it is a lot cleaner and brighter. While they have an abundance of cardio equipment with flat screen TV's, many times the TV's are not working or the treadmills are out of order, not balanced , etc. It is extremely frustrating having to spend 5 -10 minutes sometimes finding a cardio machine and TV that both function, and management is quite lax in repairing the TV's. Additionally, I find that quite often there will be 3 people at the front desk doing nothing, yet many machines are left with heavy weights (too heavy for me to take off) on them or that free weights, especially the lighter ones are missing. This is definitely a gym where you get what you pay for! read more

It's a pretty decent planet fitness. The staff are friendly and what not...I am unhappy with the recent changes, however. Previously, though this location felt cramped, they had many many machines that couldn't be found elsewhere. They updated a bit, and got rid of some of the better machines that kept me coming back. While it feels more open, there is less variety and less keeping me here rather than nearby competition. read more

Good if you can go during slow times. I'm retired so I go early afternoon. After 5pm lot of kids, fights, drugs, drinking, etc. Only 10 bucks a months. No service, but who really needs service in a gym. read more

Left the place in July 2013 because clients weren't cleaning the machines after using them and after notifying staff and getting no where several times. Told Planet fitness i was not coming back. A month or so ago i noticed they were continuing to charge my credit card $10 a month for over a year. I blocked any further charges and called them to get no where on the phone, they requested i come in to resolve the issue. I then received a bill for the months i blocked on my card! Went to the gym and got no where other then they would wave 1 month! Threatened to send the bill to collections! Going down to officially cancel my membership and pay the $20-30 just to end this BS. claim to have pizza on 1st Monday of month and bagels on 2nd Tuesday..BUT this is just for those that can arrange their schedule so they are in the gym between 6-8: am for bagels and 4-6pm for pizza. those that go to the gym the other 20 hours a day get zilch.. doesn't make sense, otherwise for 10 bucks a month so what if showers are dirty (took 6 months to renovate showers), so what if parking lot is filthy, so what if customers leave paper towels and empty water bottles everywhere, or if the 4 or 5 workers stand by the cash register in the morning flirting with each other instead of cleaning the place. If the customers weren't pigs the place wouldn't look like a pig stye! read more

I was a member at PF for a year and religiously went Monday-Friday. When I knew my membership expired, I went to renew it and the man at the front desk said that the club had changed from privately owned to corporate and that I had to pay with a check. Well knowing that I had been a "regular". Then he proceeded to tell me that people that pay with credit cards frequently decline and they no longer accept cards (even bank cards). It wouldn't have been problematic if he had told me it was OK to use the gym that day and to bring a check the following time, considering I live almost 30 minutes away.
