solid gym with everything you need and a surprisingly good recovery area. I've only had my membership for about a month, but so far Planet Fitness in Pinole has been a really good fit for me -- especially since it's the closest gym nearby. The equipment selection is solid. There are plenty of ellipticals, stair steppers, bikes, rowing machines, and other cardio equipment, so I've never really had to wait long to get on a machine. My favorite part is definitely the Black Card Spa area. Between the cryo bed, red light therapy, hydro massage, tanning booths, and massage chairs, it's honestly a nice way to recover after a workout. The staff has also been consistently kind and helpful every time I've gone in. The locker room and bathrooms are always clean and well stocked, and I appreciate the little details like the water bottle refill station, hydration options available for purchase, towel access, and lockers (they'll even provide a lock for a small fee if you forget yours). The only downside is that the Black Card lounge can occasionally have an unpleasant odor at times, which can take away from the otherwise relaxing atmosphere. Parking can also get a little hectic during busy hours since the gym shares a shopping center with other stores, but don't let that discourage you -- worst case, park farther out and get some extra steps in. I used to genuinely love this Planet Fitness. When I first joined, it felt clean, safe, and motivating--one of the main reasons I kept coming back consistently. Unfortunately, over the past few months, the quality and safety of this location have seriously declined. The men's locker room and showers are consistently dirty and poorly maintained. On multiple occasions, I've walked into the shower area and encountered a man behaving inappropriately--standing naked in the showers with the curtain open, no water running, engaging in explicit sexual behavior, and attempting to talk to me while doing so. This has happened more than once. I've also repeatedly found human feces in the shower drains, which is beyond unacceptable and raises serious health and sanitation concerns. I reported the inappropriate behavior to a staff member days ago and was told I would need to speak to a manager, who is apparently only available early Monday mornings. This delay is unacceptable given the seriousness of the situation and the impact on member safety. Additionally, the handicap-accessible shower has been "under construction" for nearly a month. The curtain has repeatedly been torn down and left uncleaned, and there is now visible trash piled inside the shower area. This should have been addressed weeks ago. It's extremely disappointing to see a gym with so much potential deteriorate this badly. Cleanliness, safety, and staff responsiveness have clearly fallen through the cracks. I'll be looking into other gyms that take hygiene and member safety seriously. read more

I have been a member of Planet Fitness for almost 10 years, and this location is one of my favorites. First, the staff is always warm and welcoming. Special shout out to David and Maria who do an awesome job running the front customer service area and creating a positive atmosphere. Second, it is well maintained and clean. When the gym is full, it's just 110% musty with poor air circulation. And majority of the gym equipment for weights is full unless you go after 9pm and before 12pm. But, at $10/month grandfathered pricing, can't really complain even though I am. read more

I'm being generous by giving 4 stars but there is potential for this gym! Staff are kind and welcoming and equipment is kept a decent amount clean. Some flaws are that there aren't enough machines for everyone to be able to get a decent workout in especially peak hours. Locker could be a little cleaner but all in all this PF I would recommend for new gym goers trying to find a gym. read more

I am writing to express my profound disappointment and distress regarding an incident that occurred at the Pinole, CA location of Planet Fitness on March 26, 2026. Upon arrival at approximately 6:30 pm, I was informed of a new no-bag policy, which I was not aware of. I inquired about the storage options and was advised to either rent a locker or store my bag in my vehicle. I asked about accommodations for medical devices, and the staff member stated that they would be allowed. I explained that I was not aware of the policy and did not wish to rent a locker. The staff member became aggressive and yelled at me, stating that if I did not like the policy, I could leave. I left my bag in my car and returned with a plastic bag containing my keys, phone, and wipes. I asked if this would be acceptable, but the staff member became further agitated and threatened to call the non-emergency line and have me escorted off the premises. I did not engage in any aggressive behavior, and I am perplexed by the staff member's hostile treatment. I asked for his name, and he initially refused to provide it. When I asked again, he stated that his name was Jeff. I requested to speak with a supervisor, and he stated that his manager's name was Daisy and that the incident was recorded on camera. I am extremely dissatisfied with the way I was treated and am seeking a resolution to this matter. I have always had a great experience at this location until tonight. I have never felt so disrespected than I have tonight by your employee Jeff. This person doesn't deserve to be an employee. He is very rude and doesn't know how to talk or treat people. I have never seen so much hatred toward me than I felt from him on tonight. He made sure he yelled, screamed, and threatened to call the police on me in public when I never posed a threat to him. I demand you take my complaint seriously. I have filled out online surveys, emails, etc. I have done everything on my end. This is a reasonably good gym. However, paying more for the black card to use the spa is no longer worth it. People come in on cell phones and chatter extremely loudly in the spa area. This has been consistent with members on the phone. Better signage to let people know to not speak loudly on the phone in the spa or in the waiting area are needed and better enforcement because it's ridiculous and I've changed my membership to not have the black card. Not worth it with all of the rude people on the phone. I've even seen a worker on the phone in the lounge having a loud conversation. Maybe they don't have break rooms. I've been coming to this PF for awhile now. And for a planet fitness - i can't complain! This location is really convenient for people in the Pinole/El Sobrante area. It's way closer to me than city sports or 24. It's also $10 for a standard membership which you can't beat. For someone who's here 5-6X a week - I've never had any issues. There are people who don't wipe down their machines but in this day and age you should be wiping down your own machine to make sure it's clean. Don't rely on other peoples wipe downs!! The busy times are definitely the after work hours and the day before holidays. Even though it's busy I've never had an issue with not getting a machine. There's always something available to meet what you're trying to work on. Plenty of cardio and weights! I do wish there were multiple leg presses with free weights (there's only 1). But there are other leg presses in the back! Overall satisfied with the equipment! I have seen the bathrooms be relatively dirty. I pretty much avoid using the bathroom at the gym in general, this location does have some "interesting" clientele. I saw a review about them constantly changing rules and I think this is re masks. The mask mandate has been changing constantly so don't blame the workers - literally have no control over it. I don't think the issue is the gym, I think it's the people. I've seen a lot of anti mask attitudes and people who have no common sense when it comes to social distancing or personal space. Now they have a white board in front that says what current policy is, and honestly, if you have an issue with it then leave. Just put a fucking mask on. Overall a pretty decent PF location. I used to go to 24/City Sports which obviously look nicer but you can't beat the location of this one. Definitely going to keep coming here! read more

It is similar to the Carson and Inglewood/Imperial location. They have everything those other two places have INCLUDING plenty of parking. And like the other two I've checked out, all levels of staff were friendly and available when needed. Every patron I encountered were the same AND every single one of them made sure they wiped their equipment clean once they were done. Bathrooms were also clean, ditto the black card spa areas. Really, EVERY area I encountered was with no kind of clutter or mess. Staff were walking around making sure spray cleaners and paper towels were abundant in every posted area. This isn't my home gym, but it's close enough to my NorCal home, so there will be multiple repeat visits. Will be coming by given every chance. read more

Lemme start on a positive note. Planet fitness is great for $10 a month and it has everything you need to get a good workout in. The culture of a nonjudgmental zone is awesome and encourages others to pursue their fitness goals without being gym intimidated. This location is still relatively new so the facility is pretty nice! My only complaint is that the staff are heeeeelllla lazy. There's always a flock of them just standing at the front not doing anything. Hey Im not their manager its all good if you wanna chill but NOT when there's no paper towels or empty spray bottles to clean my equipment. One time I came up to ask the girl a membership question and she let me stand their while she was taking a personal phone call on her airpods. My health insurance includes Silver Sneakers membership which allows me to use Planet Fitness facilities. I've never been to Planet Fitness, so I called the Pinole location to find out what would be available to me. The conversation with the person who answered the phone went like this: Me: I have a Silver Sneakers membership. What does that include at your facility? PF: Hold on. I'll have to check. [comes back after a minute or so, and starts speaking rapidly over a less-than-ideal connection] Me: I'm not understanding you. Are you on a headset? Can you adjust it? I'm not hearing you clearly. PF: [repeats what he just said, without slowing down or articulating and not addressing the poor audio quality -- i.e., no adjustment whatsoever] Me: Okay. So what I think I heard you say is that I get the "Classic Card" -- C - a - r -d ? Is that right? PF: Yes. Me: Does that include any classes? PF: No. It includes use of the gym equipment. I'd give zero stars if I could. I went to the gym tonight (haven't been there in a few days) and the purpose of why I picked this gym is the convinence of going whenever I want. I start my workout and half way through they sound that obnoxious alarm as if it were boot camp, closing at 7. The ONLY reason why I have a membership is to be able to go anytime, be it 2 am or any other time. I hear the same excuses always; short staffed, blah, blah, blah. Well everyone is and we make it work. I'm short staffed all the time at my job but we pull it off. At least send an email or a text to your customers to let us know. My bf and I walked into this gym and got turned around because the man claimed his screen told him not to let us in. It was quite confusing when our other PF gym didn't have a problem. The man was Hispanic and so is my bf so I can't really say it was a race issue. My bf checked and called the number in the app and they said there's nothing wrong on our side. So to this day that night remains a mystery as to why we couldn't work out. I'm giving three stars tho because when I looked around I seen everyone keeping distance as they should,cleaning their station when done and wearing a mask. The thing I love about this gym on Fitzgerald is that 9 times out of 10 they are moping the floor to the entrance or cleaning under the treadmills. It is good to seem some effort around cleanliness. The rest of the gym is filthy just like the other PF I frequent (Richmond and San Pablo). And, at this gym, though they are often not at the front desk during my 3:30 a.m. work outs, when they do appear there is usually two persons during this shift. Richmond and San Pablo (sometimes two brothers are working together and the taller one can often be seen chatting with guest and helping guest with equipment) I have often experienced one employee running around managing it all at 3:30 a.m. And unlike when they (all three gyms) first opened the gym the trash bins are always full, machines are constantly breaking down or not working signs are posted, the areas for floor work is always disgusting and obvious it has not been cleaned in weeks and staff are quite aloof to customers. I have also seen the managers work shifts at each of these gyms and they too stay on there phone or computers and never clean just like their staff. So I guess the machine is designed to create just what it is spewing out.......I do remember a female manager when the Fitzgerald gym first opened that was always present and hands on, cleaning and working alongside the staff. Staff were never on the phone and always chatting with each other and speaking to guest. Things have drastically changed. I feel as long as I go there with my mask on, get my machines and floor time for my one and a half hour work out then I won't complain. I had no idea this place had opened up because they've been opening and closing randomly due to covid. I was CHARGED the annual fee and I tried to call they had already shut down temporary again. I was checking my bank statement and saw I had been getting charged. Went today to cancel and did not get any refund for the annual fee or the 2-3 months I was charged for despite not coming for 3 whole months unaware they were back open because I did not receive any type of contact to know it was opened back up. My husband had a horrible experience today there the woman behind the counter is just I'm sorry to say this so lazy they don't know what they're doing in there if you want to get an infection, go there they don't take care of the equipment they don't take care of the restrooms they don't take care of the customers. The location on Fitzgerald in Pinole,CA has lots of equipment but most of them don't work. The gym is freezing inside with ceiling fans and air conditioner running. I was visiting from another state and needed to have a place near to work out. I quickly understood this was not going to be the place for me. This location used to be a nice place. So what happened? When you walk in the receptionists (as many as 4 today at around 10pm) are looking at their phones or talking among each other They turn their back to the customer and no greeting. I feel invisible. In fact it looks like they are bothered by the customer's presence. I thought I am the customer. A Simple hello or welcome can go a long way. The bathroom and the gym used to be very clean. Not as much. The massage chairs used to be nice and new. they squeak and it hurts the back to have a massage. I used to be with 24 hour fitness at hilltop which is really bad, unfortunately this place is catching up very quickly. I hope the owner(s) read this as they are paying their employees to NOT do their jobs. Make no sense!
