I guess anything goes at this gym

All I can say is this gym has gone downhill fast in the last 6 months. Floors are dirty, have to constantly ask for paper towels to be filled, sweaty people that don't feel the need to wipe down equipment and apparently can wear whatever they want. Young workers at the desk play on their phones constantly, hence the dirty gym. Are there no managers here!? I guess when you pay the $10 monthly membership fee, this is all your entitled to.

Clean nice workout environment! I love it because it is close to home and the hours are great now that they are 24/7! Also can't go wrong with purple machines!!:)

Just signed up with Planet Fitness and I love it so far! There are so many cardio machines, free weights, ab machines and a strength training section. You can get a membership for $10 a month! You just have to pay a small startup fee and annual fee of $31 which isn't bad. It is very clean inside the gym and seems brand new. They have a big girl's locker room too. :) The staff was very friendly and helpful when I signed up. Great gym at a great price!

Second Tuesday of every month is bagel day! Bagels, spreads, and First Watch coffee. How can you not love that!?

Pretty big but still not enough treadmills. Also, plays Fox News on loop. I prefer to not sit in front of propaganda at the gym.

Soooo busy location just opened and it's madness. Planet fitness should really consider another location somewhere in the area.

While I liked the…read moreclasses at the Y more, I love how much bigger FitWorks is, the better hours, and best of all the Cardio Theater! For someone who is not the most confident when exercising, I love the darkness and privacy of the cardio theater. Not to mention that on a huge screen, you can watch the movie of the day and get lost in it instead of focusing on how much longer you have to run! The staff has always been super friendly every time I go. There is always someone greeting me when I walk in and saying goodbye when I leave. I never feel judged here and it is a very comfortable place to work out! I took advantage of the free personal training session that I got when I signed up in order to feel more comfortable with the machines. Casey did a great job of explaining them and asking what I wanted to know and learn about the place. My only complaint would be that when I got busy student teaching for a couple weeks and slacked on my gym time, I received an email from them encouraging me to come work out more. I also received a text from a personal trainer offering me a session. While some people may like this, I felt a little embarrassed and like they were tracking how much I come. Although I have been better about staying on track lately, that did make me feel slightly uncomfortable.

UPDATED REVIEW (April 2026) -- I joined the YMCA of Greater Cleveland in November 2025. I've…read moreenjoyed my experience so far. I visit almost every day and I love it. The fitness classes, swimming pool access, sauna and hot tub access, plus a massage and yoga room make it worth my while. I attend the Lakewood location (my home location) and sometimes I visit the downtown Cleveland location. Members can visit any location as long as they visit their home location the most in a calendar year. The downtown location is much bigger and newer so it feels fancier but the Lakewood location is solid. FITNESS CLASSES -- Free with your membership. I've really enjoyed their Les Mills BodyPump classes. I've also taken their compound circuits, cycle, pure strength, and barre classes. The bodypump class is my favourite because I love using weights. SWIMMING LESSONS -- These are offered for a separate fee. They offer swim lessons for children and adults. They offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes. I took their 10 week beginner adult swimming class from late January to March with instructor Elliott. I was nervous but I'm glad I challenged myself. I learnt a lot and I hope to sign up for another beginner class again as I'm not ready for an intermediate level yet. SAUNA/HOT TUB/STEAM ROOMS -- all free with your membership. I enjoy using the Sauna anytime I come and I've sometimes used the hot tub. The Sauna at the Lakewood location gets busy but I normally can find a seat or I just stand. Sometimes, I have to wait to enter because it is too packed inside. The downtown location's Sauna is bigger than the Lakewood one plus downtown has a Steam room but the Lakewood location does not have a Steam room. GYM/WEIGHTS ROOM -- This is upstairs and items where all the cardio and weight machines are. There are also 2 bikes and 2 rowing machines here. There are plenty of treadmill, 2 stair climber machines, and elliptical machines too plus free weights (dumbbells). Other machines include leg press, squat, etc. They also have weighted balls or medicine balls, sand bags, kettlebells, etc. There are more bikes in the cycling room. The 2nd floor also has a yoga room, a cycling room, a massage/quiet room, and TRX/extra weights room. All of these rooms are included in your membership. Of course, if a yoga class, a cycle class, or a TRX or strength class is happening then you can't use those rooms. The 2nd floor has a main big room where most of the fitness classes are held such as the Bodypump classes. CHILDCARE -- There is a childcare space that I believe is free with membership. So if you are a parent and need to exercise, you can bring your child here. Employees look after kids as parents workout. I don't have kids but the childcare service is a nice benefit. PRICE -- It's all relative. We all spend money on what we want. If you don't own a home with exercise equipment or live in an apartment with a gym then the YMCA is your best option. The YMCA membership is affordable to me and a fair price compared to most gyms. It's also cheaper than eating out everyday as some of us do (BAM!). There are different membership levels depending on if you are a child, student, adult, or senior. Call them to inquire. I pay under $50 a month before taxes for my adult monthly membership. PARKING -- Free. There is a huge parking lot but it can get extremely crowded because a lot of families are YMCA members because of their kids. The downtown location also has a free parking garage which is validated for YMCA members. The only issue that I have with the Lakewood YMCA is that the sauna is very small so it is always packed. I think the employees can do a better job at monitoring the sauna to make sure that no one stays in there too long. There is a sign outside the sauna that states it is limited to 10 mins every time but some people stay for longer. I stay longer when no one else is waiting to enter or when I'm in the only one using it. TIP -- While the cardio machines in the gym seem busy, I've learned that coming early in the morning before work sometimes helps because it is not as busy. After work (between 5:30pm - 8pm) is when the YMCA tends to be very busy. Overall, I would recommend the Lakewood YMCA. The price is very reasonable and the gym has a lot of classes and services to offer. The employees who work here are really nice and helpful. They also bring in cookies often from Insomnia cookies (on Tuesdays) because Insomnia brings their leftovers to the YMCA. Giant Eagle often brings some pastries and bread to the YMCA too which is cool for those who want it. I forgot what days the bread products come in but I believe the days varies. I plan to be a member for a long time.

This is my first experience with the YMCA and I was pretty happy! It's clean and has a decent…read moreamount of equipment in good order. There is a large basketball gym that's always busy, and the pool area doesn't seem to be too crowded at the times I'm there, which is generally an off time. There's plenty of parking, and classes, childcare, and community activities. The bulletin boards are always up to date and the staff are friendly. I have the membership tier that lets you use the aquatherapy massage chairs every day and they are awesome.

I love My Personal Trainer in Westlake! I was out of shape and had no energy when I decided to…read morestart exercising in June 2016. I liked the personal attention that made me want to go there twice a week. I rarely miss a session. My balance and stamina have improved. I've been inspired to start watching what I eat and have lost over 30 pounds since starting the program! Thanks to Dan, Sarah and the rest of the team I've been able to stick to the program and look forward to continuing in the future.

Three months ago when I started at MTP in Westlake I was very skeptical that a 2 day-a-week workout…read moreroutine could make a big difference in my life, and certainly not in a short amount of time. A little about why I chose MPT... I have severe arthritis in my knees and had been pretty sedentary for a couple years because of the pain. After seeing an orthopedic surgeon and going through a couple rounds of injections (cortisone and synvisc), the only thing that I really found helpful was physical therapy. At 53 I was told that I was too young for knee replacements. When my PT sessions were coming to an end, I was looking for a good transition from that. My knees were weak, and I needed strength training. After looking online at a lot of different gyms and reading reviews, I settled on MPT, mainly because of its intimate atmosphere. I really like the appointment-based setting - knowing I have somewhere to be and someone who is expecting me is motivating. There are never more than 4 or 5 other people (including the trainers) there at my appointment time, so I never feel self conscious or rushed. All the trainers at MPT in Westlake are awesome! Dan is the manager, and he came up with a great routine to start out with - with the focus on getting my knees stronger, but staying low impact so I wouldn't injure myself. Sarah, Audri and Evan are so kind, knowledgeable and encouraging. The best part of all of this is that as my knees, hips and whole body is getting stronger, the pain in my knees is dramatically reduced! My stamina has improved so much - I can carry a heavy laundry basket now without my arms getting tired, and I can carry it up two flights of stairs with ease! Everyday tasks are easier now. I'm sleeping better, and even though I am wasn't terribly overweight (I wanted to lose between 15-20 lbs), I have lost a few and it hasn't come back, even if I'm "bad" on a weekend. Even though I've only lost 5 lbs, my body is changing and my clothes are fitting better! It's worth mentioning that I was already conscious that my food portions and calorie intake needed some modification. So before I started at MPT I had decreased my portions and was using an app to make sure I wasn't taking in too many calories. All the trainers at MPT are experienced and well-versed in that as well. Price... With my high deductible insurance plan I was paying about $150 per (give or take, depending on what level they coded it as) Physical Therapy session. I asked what it would be if I wanted to continue out-of-pocket (because my insurance only covered 12 sessions). To continue physical therapy would have been between $75 and $150 per SESSION, depending on how much time I spent there. In contrast, I'm paying MPT about $20 a session (with the package I chose). Like other places, they run specials and if you pay up front (which I did - I chose a 1 year package) you get a break. I could have gotten a bigger break if I had chosen a different package. Try not to get bogged down in all of that - they're a business and they have to make money. It's so worth it!
