Consider another location! This place was manageable for a little while but they need to stop accepting memberships for a little while. I know it's hard to control but they need a capacity limit. Parking here on the weekday in the evening is a nightmare. Nowhere near enough spots, people parking at the abandoned auto shop and church across the street too. And, this place I guess is a crossfit gym now too? People crawling on the floor or stretching in front of machines? That ain't right. The staff is on their phones the whole time so they aren't even filling the paper towel and sanitizing spray that is frequently empty. It's also gotten really hot in here lately too. I like using the club but they need to get the machines repaired quicker than they do. There are 3 now, 2 leg and 1 crunch that have been broke for 2 weeks. Other times over a month. Need improvement for sure. Plus other machines have wore out cracked padding that does not feel good on the body. Parts should be readily available to get fixed quickly so we can work out on our favorites. I don't get the slow repairs for such a huge corporation. read more

Management here is a joke. They are anything but Customer Service oriented. I emailed Member Services requesting to cancel my membership in September (when the gym was still closed) and was sent a reply stating that someone would get back with me. Fast forward and I was charged the $39 Annual Fee and a Monthly charge. I called the gym to inquire and spoke directly with the General Manager. He stated "we get so many inquiries through the website that we can't look at them and I make the decisions around here. We can go back and forth all day, but you won't be getting a refund." So because his team is too lazy to read and respond to customer emails I will be out money. During the pandemic, when the gym is closed how are we to "go to the gym" to cancel a membership? Furthermore, why does the club even have the option on their website to email when they blatantly ignore them and they go into a black hole? So they send out an email, sayin we are open, these are all the new things we are doing, and at the very bottom says we will start the billing cycle again. My dad goes there to work out. He has COPD so outside is not really an option, and it is an air conditioned building.Oh, oops wait they turned the air up so it is even hotter. When asked about it, I was told it was because corporate told them to to save a few bucks. I like going here because the equipment is newer and the place is very clean. Lots of different exercise equipment to choose from. Staff is usually pretty friendly. Biggest downfall of this place is good luck finding a time that it's not packed full of gym goers. Most of the time you are fighting to find a parking space (unless you are fortunate enough to be able to go at rare times). Then it kind of defeats the purpose of the convenience of going to a Planet Fitness. I know it's not their model to turn people away since they have the go to any location black card, but they really need to work on something to limit users as it starts getting full. read more

This place is super clean, nice staff, good machines. Not smelly (seems silly, but I've been to gyms that were). It's great for what it is-- a budget commuter gym. I wish it had a little more variety in cardio equipment (rowing machines please). Don't expect spa level experience. Expect equipment, clean locker room, showers if you need it. That's it. read more

I recently signed up to this Planet couple months ago. All I can is this gym is what I was looking for. I was surprised that their was a planet fitness in Royal Oak, it was in a super lowkey location. The membership itself is affordable. The equipment and locker room is really clean and best of all is that everyone PUTS AWAY their weights after their done lol. That was one of my biggest pet peeves at LA fitness. The staff here is very friendly and nice, and their not trying to push you to upgrade your membership unlike some other gyms (Lifetime Fitness, LA fitness etc..) I don't really care about Pizza Mondays, I always pass on it. The drawbacks are parking is really tight and there isn't a lot of space so it might get cramped up. I don't really mind it since I somehow find a spot that's open. The one thing I wish Planet fitness had was more modern gym machines to work out different parts of your body since that's something they lack. But overall a great gym! read more

This used to be my favorite location, the music wasnt too loud like most others but now its kind of too busy and its hard to park, to top it off, this month has changed, its no longer going to be 24/7, so it will be harder to avoid the crowds, especially weekends were my favorite days to work out long and late, debating if i'll stay or not. read more

Nice and clean gym. I like the fact that the 30 minute work out area, core training, stretching and black card spa areas are all separate from the main gym floor. The core area has some ropes and things not seen at the other gyms by planet fitness in the area. The stretching machine is awesome too. read more

Have been a member for about 18 months and have gone to the club over 100 times the past 1.5 years. The club is convenient and cost effective. That said, the floor at the urinals is ALWAYS a puddle of pee. I mean every fricken time. Its disgusting. I've asked the club manager if its possible to please clean the floor but it never happens. Parking situation is iffy, particularly at peak times. WIFI sucks. Spent 25 minutes trying to connect and would not work (I have an iPhone 8 and am pretty tech savvy). Desk clerk just shrugged and said it worked for her. Ultimately I decided to cancel my membership because the aforementioned issues meant that I wasn't really getting any use out of it. I cancelled at the gym and was told I would not incur any additional fees. Was given a form with the date my cancellation was effective (that day), and the last bill date (two weeks prior). Two days later they take $39 out of my account for an annual fee for the year going forward (despite NOT being a member in the year going forward). Management "understood my frustration" but refused to issue a refund. Stated that they are a franchise and that their decision is final. read more

During the pandemic in June I had to make a move an hour away to care for an elderly grandparent, prior to that I had called Planet Fitness in Royal Oak in March/April to cancel my membership, after several attempts of no one answering the phone, I spoke with someone who said that they were not charging membership fees during the pandemic while they were closed. When I moved, I located a PF membership in Chesterfield and signed up because they were open. I was told at that location that my membership in Royal Oak had been canceled and I wouldn't incur any fees from them. On November 2nd I was charged 2 annual fees for $39, one from Chesterfield and one from Royal Oak. I contacted the Chesterfield location and was told that my membership with Royal Oak was not cancelled as I thought it was, however they cancelled it today. The person I spoke to was very nice and told me to call Royal Oak and they would be able to assist me in returning the funds to my account. I spoke to Finn, who stated he's the general manager in Royal Oak, he refused to give me a credit for an "annual fee" and told me it was my responsibility to call and cancel my membership, then blamed the Chesterfield location for not cancelling the membership. He was extremely rude and started spewing off policies that I was unaware of to justify charging my bank account for a $39 annual fee when they have been closed for 7 months, from March until the end of September. How does the Royal Oak location not compute that charging an annual fee when you are closed 75% of the year is unfair and abusive business practices? I was then told that I could not speak with one of his higher ups, refused to give me a corporate phone number, but someone by the name of Rebecca would be calling me back. I am shocked at their attitude towards these circumstances that they actually think they have a right to charge people an annual fee when they have been closed, and was not available to cancel my membership when I called initially and when I thought my membership was cancelled since I signed up with PF in chesterfield - did nothing to accommodate me for lack of understanding their policies that I never received. They said I signed a contract, I signed electronically and never saw the actual contract they're speaking about. Nor would I know how to apply that under unprecedented circumstances such as the ones we have been in during the pandemic. What they're doing here and their attitude towards the members is wrong on so many levels. I am actively gathering complaints to take to the Attorney Generals office. THE LOCATION WAS CLOSED DUE TO COVID - they know that, I know that, the whole state of Michigan knows that. This company is running a fraudulent scheme against its members and they need to be stopped immediately. You should be ashamed of yourselves trying to scam people out of a few dollars during a pandemic when you were not allowed to operate under LAW. read more

Honestly. 3 times this has happened where the employees do not set the tanning bed. I walk in the room get undressed try to tan and they have not set the bed. So I call now so I don't have to get dressed walk out walk back in and undress . They tell me it's all set now. Nope. Once again lazy or dumb employees did not do the one job they have behind the counter. Hit the button not very hard. I'm undressed. But now I have to get dressed. Walk out the room. The actual gym is great, that is if you can get in to find out. There is absolutely no parking on or near any peak time. The last three times I tried to work out there I was one of five cars trolling the lot to find a parking space. I ended up leaving because I could not find one in time. read more

I had to cancel my membership to Planet Fitness yesterday because we are dealing with cancer. It's just unsafe for us at this time. I go to the Royal Oak location. I was also charged $39.00 in fees yesterday and asked for that to be refunded. I was told they cannot refund that as those are my membership fees for the next year. They keep the place pretty clean, but if you notice someone not wiping down machines, it takes them forever to say something to him/her. By that time they have been on five machines and infected the whole damn gym. With all the corona crap and flu going around it pisses me off! And for the love of God! Turn up the music! Really nice facility, clean and tailored to general fitness with lots of treadmills. However, two huge issues.... 1. Memberships are WAY oversold based on parking capacity, which makes parking a frustrating time consuming circus. 2. The most amateurish oblivious and often rude customers I've ever experienced in a gym. Plenty of nice polite folks as too but I've never experienced so many people occupying valuable equipment (esp. Smith machines) for outrageous amounts of time watching movies in iPads and on phones while not even using the equipment for its purpose. Not unusual to spend 10 min circling the parking lot to find a spot and 15 min for a clown (no judgement) to finish their 40 min Netflix + 5lb dumbbell arm twistie "superset" yielding zero sweat zero fitness improvement but lots of great IG posts. read more

Was here with a friend working out while jump roping after seeing many people do it before the worker came up and asked if they just got done and we said yes the worker with an attitude told us we are not allowed to jump rope instead of kindly informing us or reminding us. The parking sucks in peak hours. Never see people wipe down equipment and has the worst WiFi I've ever seen. read more

New, clean, friendly staff, and inexpensive. Only 10 a month. I live down the street but I used a locker anyway. Restrooms with showers are a nice added bonus. Most inexpensive gyms like snap do not have big locker rooms like this. 30 min cardiovascular room is super convenient. My phone did not fit in holder on elliptical because of my case, Samsung s6 but it has a ledge to sit on. ALSO, my water bottle is too big at 16oz bottle. However, I think I might cancel and switch to a gym that I don't need to spend 20 min finding a parking spot.. it's a absolute disaster and Iv left with frustration multiple times. i have been working out at this gym for almost 4 years now, since i was 15 years old. i have never had a problem with this gym and have recommended memberships to many people. i have never been so appalled from the service i received. i came in with 2 of my friends to tan and then work out, one of them signed up for a membership that day. i was wearing a sports bra, zip up, and leggings. i have worked out in sports bras many many times before and have never had an issue. when i came out of the tanning bed, i was asked to keep my sweatshirt zipped up by one of the employees . i did. i was doing squats on the complete other side of the gym and the same took the time to walk all the way over there and rudely told me that if i didn't zip it up ALL the way, i would no longer be able to work out there. i only had it unzipped like 3-4 inches from the top, nothing was showing. never have i felt uncomfortable in this gym except in this moment. everyone working out around us heard and said it was totally uncalled for. i'm normally not one to leave a review but this was extremely unnecessary and it made everyone super uncomfortable. if employees want this place to be a "judgement free zone", then the employees shouldn't be the ones doing the judging... read more

The gym is alright, they don't have a big enough space for all of the members. Not to mention that the parking lot is so small the staff will tow your car if your parked in any spot that's not designated as a parking space. Maybe this gym needs to move because it's going to lose member such as myself when staff is outside claiming they are going to tow cars that arn't in a designated parking space because people don't have a place to park, what a joke. Unless you can workout during the morning or day I recommend not going to this gym. read more
