I've been a member of this location for a little over 2 years. I've seen a recent decline in cleanliness and quality of customer service. While I understand the challenges of staff turnover I can't help but think it really comes down to the managers and their leadership/support for their staff. Leading by example is always important but I don't see that at this location. The bathrooms are often dirty, toilet paper on the ground. The gym floor, including equipment has dust and dirt everywhere. I saw the head manager and an employee mopping the gym floor for the first time this month. A daily cleaning sweep would help tremendously. More attentive staff would benefit greatly in setting the stage and providing a welcoming and professional atmosphere. I don't see this as frequent, it depends on who is at the front desk. Managers seem to be "there" but not present, attentive and responsive to members when they are at the front desk. Lastly, I've seen a few members record their workouts using a tripod. What I do not see is those members asking those around them if it's okay for them to record. Nor do I see signage about cell phone etiquette for photos/videos outside of phone calls. Corporate office please consider creating a policy with signage about recording/photos. I recently was told that I was being recorded by a man who I did not know. I had no clue until the employee let me know. I'm so thankful for her and how observant and attentive she was. She alerted me right away and told the man he could not record. Although I wish they would have removed him from the gym, she as a non manager took action. What I saw lacking was the chain of leadership stepping in about the situation. Unfortunately it wasn't the first time management heard about this man recording-sigh. There is a lot to unpack here... I'm disappointed to see the lack of accountability and professionalism at this location. I enjoy coming to this gym for the community I created here. I want management to become better and EVOLVE. Perhaps good coaching, professional development, and consistent mentoring would be a great opportunity to help revamp. I hope this location can be a more positive, welcoming, professional and clean environment. read more

Okay...after my last yelp review things have gotten much better! For things I didn't even talk about; the lights in the tanning & red light have mostly been updated. Every single hand sanitizer that was out or broken is now not only working but has hand sanitizer in it! The employees are still relaxed but they are accurately putting the time in the right beds for tanning & red light and I've noticed the employees who normally do less doing more! Truly a turn around into 5 star territory. I want to thank all the employees & managers who've stepped up to create a space where I want to stay. Thank you so very much! Keep it up!! read more

I understand being understaffed but the staff you do have does nothing more than stand at the desk. If they even look up from their phones they just stare at the screen No word exchanges. The bathroom has not been cleaned in over a month. And the staff member who did come in to "clean" didn't even have equipment to clean. I've been going to this gym location for almost a year. While some of the staff are polite, professional, and do a great job, management is trash. The woman's bathroom is usually very dirty and sometimes smells like urine. The showers are moldy and very gross. The last time I used the shower there were literally small worm-like things crawling!!! I take my own shower cleaner and spray down the shower before I can use it. At least 1x/month the shower water is cold. The water fountain is supposed to be filtered but idk when the last time that was serviced bc the filter's been on red ever since I've been a member. What motivated me to write this review was an incident that happened to my friend when she was working out today. Apparently, another gym member was FILMING my friend when she was working out!! She didn't know this was happening until a female staff told her about this. Management did not take the initiative to check on her to see if she was okay, they didn't demand to have the creeper delete the recording until SHE requested it, they didn't demand him to move away from her or simply leave the gym. If staff doesn't know how to properly handle situations like this, additional mandatory training is needed!! For all staff but especially for management. Women partitions should never have to feel uncomfortable, be violated and disrespected, concerned about their safety, privacy, and well being. The PF slogan is "you belong". That doesn't seem to be true for the women who workout at the RB PF. read more

The laziest staff ever. All they do is text at the front without even looking at guests. Don't even try to ask them to set you up with a massage chair or tanning. They will reluctantly do it while rolling their eyes. and I've even overheard them laughing at members before. I've been going here 3 years now, and it keeps getting worse. Also, the gym is extremely dirty. By far one of the dirtiest gyms I've ever been to. A lot has to do with the employees rarely replacing cleaning spray. This Planet Fitness is the most unsanitary and unsafe out of all I have visited in the United States. The Men's urinal has been clogged with paper towels for five days. The shower floor grates are coated in human hair and body grease (it is absolutely disgusting). The toilet stalls appear to be splotched in dry mucous (reported months ago, but never cleaned). Two of the three bathroom sinks were out of order for a month. You'll find multiple trip hazards where unrepaired fool coverings have delaminated from the concrete below. The cycle (spinning machines) are a joke. They are rarely maintained and frequently out of service. Some machines are reported to the front desk for service over and over for many months, but are never repaired. Usually one-third to one-half the stair machines are broken. Other members frequently film themselves during workouts while also capturing other member's images without permission. On occasion, I have reported people live-streaming their workouts. Staff do not enforce the "no calls" in the gym area rule. I workout at this gym only because there are no others within reasonable travel distance. If another fitness center opened nearby, I would quit this Planet Fitness. read more

Been a member here for a couple years now. It's going downhill. How can you have a gym with no water fountain? It's been broken for two weeks now. And I agree. Most of the associates just have ZERO CUST SERVICE skills. Zero. A couple of the female associates skile and say hello or goodbye, but the dudes really don't give a fig. This whole franchise is a messy shit show. My sister came in to cancel her membership or so she thought.. but somehow she had two accounts (which they never even told us or mentioned to us about) so that meant they only cancelled one. She only found out after she cancelled her first one and they were still charging her. After speaking to the "manager" about this situation on 12/1, he was supposed to ask the regional manager if my sister can get a refund (about $100 worth) because she has not even been in for a while and they can check her records. Nothing back maybe because he was lazy, dismissive and seemed like he hated his job but an email back saying that you tried would be nice. When she came in to cancel her account, they only asked for phone number no name or card number (RED FLAG) because if they would have pulled up a card number, they can see she had two accounts. Finally cancelled my membership here after going for over 5 years. It was really out of habit more than anything. A third of the staff is friendly and greet you warmly, that accounts for my two-star rating. The rest is lackadaisical -- either on their phones or don't even bother to look up when people scan in (could be scanning in an old gift card as far as they're aware), or absent. The staff is very negligent about restocking. There are rarely any stocked paper towels for cleaning the machines, you have to walk around to check at least three others to find some. If you do, they aren't even in the dispensers, they're placed adjacent to it. The cleaner seems extremely watered down. I wonder how effective a cleaning solution it is. The bathrooms and changing rooms are repulsive (read other reviews to get a better idea). Forget about going in late night, the front desk is unguarded and it's unnerving, definitely speaks to a lack of safety. The door has been broken for months, there's only a sign saying "use other door" as a bandaid measure. Must I go on? The sticker price might entice you but you will definitely get what you pay for. It's up to you to determine if you deserve more than what they offer, or if you can bear to settle for much less than what is promised by this franchise. read more

The two stars are earned by the friendliness of the staff, the organization and variety of the equipment, the prime location, and the fact that they are not so busy that I'm in a constant struggle to use the equipment I need. The staff is seriously personable and makes it feel like it is your gym as much as theirs and their favorite regulars. However where they are FAR from a 5 star gym is the cleanliness and the "lunkiness" of many of their gym goers. Every time I go, there's always at least one overflowing trash can, used paper towels all over the place, and it's always a constant struggle to find a dispenser that has any paper towels in it. Meanwhile, their staff is always chilling at the front desk. As far as the "lunkiness", I mean that no matter what time I go, there is always at least one person breaking every annoying PF rule there is. And while I appreciate that I can use the smith machine to deadlift at this location while I have been told by other PFs that I cannot, I don't appreciate people slamming weights and grunting so loud I can hear them over my headphones, hoarding countless weights at their bench for what seems like 15-part supersets, then refusing to put anything back. Meanwhile, again, the staff is hanging out at the front desk, hearing and seeing the same things I am, and doing nothing. A perfect example of both of these things comes from the other day. I went to the bathroom at the end of my workout and saw that a guy had brought the Bosu Ball he was using into the bathroom and leaned it right against his stall. Gross, right? Well, on the way out, I told the people at the desk and their response was "Oh, yeah, he just didn't want anyone to use it." What? So I reiterated "He brought it into the bathroom." and they again assured me he just wasn't done using it. I felt like I was in The Twilight Zone or something. Again, want to stress that these people are very nice. I like this gym. However, especially with Covid, they need to do a lot better at the cleanliness side of things, and I'd be willing to sacrifice smith machine deadlifts for them to address the lunks running amuck. read more

This was my first ever Planet Fitness I've worked out in. I've been a long time LA Fitness kinda guy. I enjoy the crowd here. The staff were friendly & cool in the cut. I didn't realize you also need your bank account number & that you can sign up on the app. No hassle with sales folk like LA Fitness. I'm not a big fan of planet fitness, but didn't have much choice because I'm on the road and needed a gym that had locations nationwide. I think for the price it's a decent gym. My problem with this gym is the lack of barbells and lifting equipment. I get their mentality that this gym is no intimidation and majority of their stuff is just machine equipment, but I just wish they had more weights, more kettle bells because it only goes up to 40lbs, and barbells. I definitely had to modify my workouts because lot of stuff is missing in that gym. I think this gym sees weight lifting as intimidating but I don't agree at all x read more

I have known her since middle school, she was valedictorian of our graduating class and just got her MASTERS in college. But because one karen thought she saw something and reported her, they didn't even take the time to listen to her side of the story. why would she want or even need to go through someone's bag and LET ALONE if she was gonna steal something don't you think she would've instead no nothing was stolen. she would never touch anyone else's bag and now they are refusing to even listen to her. Music is way too loud to the point you can't even hear your own music when using noise cancelling AirPods! This is a no frills gym. Music choice is not great either. It makes me wonder whether they are aware of the diversity of the community that joins this gym (we are not all gang people). You give feedback about the gym but no action is taken and instead employees tell us to post on social media for management to do anything. The sanitizer dispensers were almost always out or broken but they finally fixed it after I noticed it was posted on social. The bathrooms are filthy. Toilets are black colored but I wonder if white what they'd truly would look like. I live nearby so I don't use it because of this. Again no frills, good price point, but small things such as cleaning and turning down music would help and goes a long way. read more

Ridiculous treatment by staff and manager. When my partner signed up, the front desk person mistyped our bank info to their system. Because of that we were charged non payment fee on our credit card. When we called this location for the first time they admitted their fault and told us that refund will be issued. They never did anything to our account so we were still charged with the fee and no refund. I called a month later manager told me that it doesn't matter what happened and they won't be issuing refund. Make it make sense. No amount of special offer is worth spending your money at this place. Find any other gym but here. read more

Okay, let's be real - I was a little bit nervous to go to this location because the area is sort of sketchy. I got over it though, because I was tired of driving double the time to the next closest location. I'm so glad I came here! For starters, there's super ample parking as it's in the same parking lot as a few other businesses. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. This PF is very clean, HUGE, and the employees are welcoming. This location almost looks like it's brand new on the inside. They've got plenty of equipment and I've never had to wait for anything. Going along with their "judgement free" mantra, I've never felt awkward or out of place here, either. The bathrooms and locker rooms are nice and clean. I'm a black card member but I have yet to use the spa here (I usually forget, whooops). Great location. My new home gym! read more

I wasn't going to post this but I think it is necessary to protect other women who might think to come here at night or any hr. I had the worst experience at this location. A man by the name Xavier (he is a black man with glasses and a grey patch on his head) came into the women's locker room multiple times. Quickly saying "man in women locker room" as he is walking in not waiting for us to get decent or anything. He frightened us ladies so much Looking at us going in the shower area and making excuses to as to why. I asked the young lady what was his name and let her know my concerns. Instead of apologizing for making the members feel uncomfortable and maybe assuring he will address himself better he approaches me and starts confrontation which further seals his guilt. Need new staff ASAP. Nobody does their job just sitting around in their phone. If there is ever a next time I will be pursuing the most just action! read more

This place was disgusting. Like it haven't been cleaned for months. Men's bathroom was gross. Straight up smells like yellow piss. The whole gyms air is congested, like there is no air flow thru the gym. So all you smell is sweat. The floor is falling apart and the machines are broken. 9/11/23 - To Rainier Beach Location I am so angry!! I recently transferred my preferred club membership to this Rainier Beach location, after being a Planet Fitness member for over (8) years, visiting gyms all over the USA. Today, I was in using the shower, and half way done, someone turns off my hot water to freezing cold water. I call the club desk, from the shower, and was told they'd check it. Five minutes later, with no contact, I complete my shower in frigid water. I am (62) years old, is this some kind of joke?? When I come out some large black man at the front desk informs me they are in fixing the hot water. Are you kidding me? You couldn't have the female staffer standing at the desk come in to let anyone in the women's shower know you were going to be turning off the hot water?? The black guy wasn't even nice, he was rude and indignant!! You can pull this up on your surveillance cameras, I arrived at approx 1:00pm today, Monday 9/11 and left at approx 1:30pm. I just joined Planet Fitness today. I really want the Black Card but can't afford to commit to a year contract... Maybe once the bills are under control I'll look into it... I wish there was a way to pay a couple dollars to be able to use the hydromassage bed when there's not a waiting list of Black Card members. That's really the only reason I want the Black Card lol. But for now, opted for the classic membership. Thinking that I can always upgrade later. First day at the gym. Just did the massage at first till I figure out what machines I can and can't do. Very comfortable surrounding. Good place to work out, no pressure and nobody judges you. Staff are friendly, equipment in clean and well maintained and locker rooms and showers are immaculate. Tons of equipment. Met with personal trainer who took me thru the machines. Explained stuff. Found it helpful... All of the weight machines are organized in different circuits. So if you wish to work arms or legs or shoulders or abs, they're set up in specific areas and it's easy to see what machines need to be used for desired outcomes. There is structure that's easy to understand without needing the help of a trainer to figure it all out. FREE WATER! Although PF sell reasonably priced drinks, they also provide water fountains and a water dispenser to refill your water bottle. To me, this is an added plus. It shows the company is focused on the customer's needs. If you are in the area for business or pleasure, this club is a good alternative to local hotel fitness centers. This is so real. I'm thankful for a nice Planet Fitness in town. 5 stars would highly recommend! Check it out! read more

Welcomed and much needed addition to south seattle! The gym is large, always kept clean and I've yet to see any machines down. Staff is always pleasant and greets you with a smile. The diversity (age, race, body type, physical ability) is such a breath of fresh air too. I do keep noticing the racist dog whistles in the other reviews with "it's such a scary neighborhood, I feel unsafe." Well, I guess if you're not used to being in a neighborhood/environment that is predominately Black/poc...but what do you expect from Seattle. I'm sure gentrification will rear its head soon so you'll feel safe to brunch in Rainier Beach as the minorities are pushed out like in Beacon Hill, Columbia City & CD. I do wish there was a steam room though. Any plans on the roadmap to add that? At least in the black card spa. read more

When I found out a gym opened near where I lived I was excited, especially since this is one of the most affordable gyms for what I want to do. There aren't super cool activities, like swimming pools, racket courts etc , but they have the basics. If you're looking just to do cardio or strength this is your place! There's two sets of dumbbells, several all squat racks, and about two of every weight machine. The squat racks are the ones that are attached, so you can't quite practice stability if you're looking for that. There is an annual fee that gets charged a few months later. If you get the basic membership level, the cost comes out to only ~$13.50/month which is a steal!! Also I found the staff to be super friendly and willing to answer any questions I may have. Manager Cue (Q?) is the best! He helped me and my boyfriend out one day and delivered superior customer service and made us feel like valued members. The front desk can get very hectic at times and he helped smooth out that process for us. He got us in and on our way quickly and took great care of us. Aside from Q being the best manager ever, we also LOVE how clean and new the facility is. I constantly see staff wiping down the machines and the bathrooms/locker rooms are always tidy and clean as well. My one complaint is that the front desk gets overwhelmed with guests needing staff for assistance. It gets REALLY bad and I have actually approached additional staff on the floor for help. One time, a worker saw me coming toward him trying to get his attention for help, and he actually spun around on his heel and ran away from me! Are we in grade school? What the heck is that about? (minus one star for that experience). They are still only a month into their opening, so I assume the front desk will run smoother once the work out the kinks in their system. I think they would benefit from having one person checking in people or to have a kiosk where you can check In yourself. read more

Overall this gym has all of the equipment you need to get or stay fit. I typically frequent this gym M-F between 4:30AM - 6AM and on Saturdays between 7AM and 9AM. My review is colored by the staff that is scheduled during these times. I don't think there has been a visit where I wasn't greeted with a friendly kind staff member or a clean gym. The equipment is in great condition and its easy to find what you need because items are in their rightful place and staff is always around to assist you in finding what you need. There are a few team members who make sure the facility is sparkling and safe every morning - Diago, Kyle and Khalil. A couple of months ago, there were icy conditions at this gym's parking lot. They took the time to ensure not only the gym was safe but also the entrances and lot. I don't recall other businesses in the region doing the same and am grateful I could access PF safely. At the time of this review, the WHO has declared a global pandemic as a result of a virus. The overnight/early morning crew always insures it is a clean environment and during this time are cleaning even more frequently - again ensuring a safe environment. If you are thinking about joining a gym in the south end - this is a great choice as the staff is kind, the environment is safe and they are pretty much always open. read more

Let me be clear I am a black African American women who comes here everyday damn near every other day. I've been a member here roughly 3.5 years. Today I finally canceled my membership!!! Cortney Sanders the tall African American manager only working AM shifts ! I noticed staff and managers only makes morning walkthroughs checking if members warring masking and following the rules "on my off days" . How ever when I come in after workdays around 6-8pm the staff can care less if you're wearing a mask long as you're VACCINATED!! I am vaccinated ! Over time it became a routine to workout without a mask notice others comfortable not wearing masks because I have a vaccination card! Only today " #Thanksgiving " and I came in before 11am. Again they only push and force the mask policy in the mornings and it's a holiday. Making today more busy then usual. Besides the mask issues I've had two unprofessional issues with the current Management Cortney Sanders! He never would call me back to discuss my membership bill when I had late fees due to having a new card to change on file he's charged me many times for NOT CONTRACTING ME BACK to add a new card on file and it Has to be approved by a manager. Thankfully two other staff members put in notes for him to follow up and reach me via phone and the recent staff Adrian who no longer works at this location knocked off fees for me to stay a member for making up for Kortneys bad management communication. Now today I'm glade I canceled my membership! I've been a proud member @ LA Fitness for over 10 + years. I never gotten harassed when I come into the gym because they know I am VACCINATED by checking in !!! And they always speak when I leave too and not on their phones looking down like @ minor planet fitness.
