Had a nice time working out and no complaints about this location! This gym is spacious, clean and has just about every machine the average person who works out needs. I wish it had an extra chest fly/rear dealt machine and another calf pushing machine as they're almost always taken. The new hack squat machine is awesome, but the new chest machine isn't good. It doesn't go deep enough and I don't feel much. It can get pretty busy at times, but I go in the morning around 6 o'clock and it's not too bad. The staff is friendly. Machines are nice. Plenty of equipment. Staff is super nice. I just don't understand why MOST people I have seen DO NOT wipe the equipment down when finished using it. This goes for the machines, the weights and the mats. It is just disgusting and rude. PF needs to a better job enforcing members to clean when done. So easy to spread illness. Please change from paper towels to wipes and add more throughout the gym. read more

In a pinch this is a decent location, but I definitely prefer the PF that is closer to my home. The gym is clean and modern but very dimly lit. it's on the smaller side but they make good use of the space they have. I attend the gym 4 days a week. Mid Afternoon. Sometimes one day out of 4 days I would go at night. I have to admit. It's so different at night. The gym is messy. Everything is so out of place. No paper towels. Spray bottles are empty. In the afternoon it's clean and organized. The machine is always cleaned. The staff is always helpful. I definitely recommend it. I have re-started my training with my Planet Fitness black card and I've had nothing but good experiences here. Staff is super helpful and very friendly. I just lost my scan in card and the individual at the desk just printed out a new one and it took less then a minute. Excellent staff & nobody harasses me about eye-wear which is a plus! The woman's locker room is always immaculate! Very clean & it's the only gym I feel comfortable rinsing off in after a good 40 minutes of cardio! The tanning beds are also brand new and very clean. I've been coming to this gym for a little over a year and it's definitely worth the cheap monthly fee. This location actually has two of most of the machines which is definitely helpful so you're not having to wait so long. Even during the beginning of the year it wasn't to busy to work out here. The only complaint I would have is it seems like the staff will play whatever music they like personally. There's been days I've come in and it's like somebody's playing the country station on Pandora. The other day they were playing the most God awful rap I've ever heard. This place is clean, functional and available. It's nothing fancy. They don't allow "lunks" which is great for non-muscle heads. No need to feel intimidated here - there are normal people here - hat is what I like the best about this place. They are open 24 hours. The staff is friendly and helpful. Staff approached my guest, a teenage girl, while she was on treadmill (DURING her workout) to tell her she was inappropriately dressed. Devastated her. Brought her to tears. Wearing nike pro gym clothes, similar to many other young girls in same gym, and made to feel self conscious. Judgement free zone, right? No idea what she has been through yet felt the need to say something while she is working out...not at check in or when she left? Utterly and completely unprofessional. I used this gym over 3 years ago with my mother as a guest and I enjoyed it , so now I'm trying it again and it's still in the same shape and this time I got my own membership, which I'm happy about. This place is always so clean ! The ladies locker room is very clean which If it weren't I wouldn't be going to this gym , the ladies restroom area is a decent size , they have lockers , showers and the bathroom. Very very clean. The machines usually always work , it's rare that machines don't work , I've only seen 2 machines not working my entire times coming here. Everyone makes sure to clean each machine each time they use it , which I also love. The members at this gym are there just to exercise not show off , and you don't have people judging you or staring at you! Good amount of machines , all different kinds for all parts of the body, I love purple my favorite color so it's my favorite look ! They also have a " express workout" it's 30 minutes long , you jump from machine to machine you're monitored by a stop and go light , it's a cool concept and you work on all body parts. And if you're a gold member you can use the tanning machines and the massage bed , also able to bring a guest and use ALL locations , otherwise the other membership you only get to attend that one location of your choosing with no other benefits. read more

There's less then a handful that have actually greeted me, but the majority of them just about look at you. I walked in one time and there was a group of them standing at the front desk, not one of them greeted me or even put there hand out to scan my card so I leaned over and did it myself. Gyms are essentially 'you get what you pay for' and in this case, $.25 down and $10 a month isn't a terrible bargain for this PF. I've never been a fan of PF in general - a gym should not have a bowl full of candy at the front desk (I've heard locations also have pizza and other terrible foods). There's a reason people are coming there and if they are smart enough to have a single cheat day aside, they should also be smart enough to not use that cheat on food/snacks from a PF. This location irks me mainly because it's in a renovated movie theater and what are movie theaters missing? Windows. Granted windows aren't an end all be all situation but they do help places feel less dungeony. The people who come here are mixed ages, more so on the older side though. Machines and facility itself seems okay as far as cleanliness. The staff seems immature in some instances. I went in before closing time on a weekend one night, was reminded of the time when I walked in and also barely dodged some flying candy (or at least that's what I think it was) from the front desk to the trash can which was located on the other side of the doors I walked through. So yes, male staff proceeded to throw freethrows of tootsie rolls for a while. read more

Planet fitness is a great deal for staying lean and cardio. Air quality in this facility is a problem. You walk in and everybody's breath makes you want to run out for fresh air. Apparently the "Lunk Alarm" props in each Planet Fitness are fully functional. I thought they were just there as a not-so-subtle, subtle message to not drop the weights or groan. I'm sure the employees get a nice laugh when they flick the switch from afar, and spook dozens of innocent gym-goers who had nothing to do with the one asshole who probably didn't even mean to drop the weights that hard. Logic. This is the 4th planet fitness I have been to, and it is the smallest. I often find myself waiting for benches in the free-weight section, but the cardio machines are usually pretty open. Every mirror I look into I seem to make awkward eye contact with some girl doing squats who thinks I was checking her butt out. Oops. Like any other PF, it is well maintained and the machines are continuously cleaned. Although it is a smaller gym, it still has all the usual equipment. It has plenty of cardio equipment, less free weights, and a few Smith machines. The men's locker room is relatively clean, and the bathroom is always clean (no younger kids here to piss all over the ground of the urinals). Clientele here is definitely leaning toward the older side. Not as many 20-30 year olds, and not nearly as many couples working out together as I have seen at other PFs. I usually come around noon on weekends and before dinner on weekdays, and that seems to be their peak activity times. It's not a great gym, but for $10 a month it's not bad. read more

I like this specific location for a few reasons. First, it's in a nice area. Secondly, and most importantly, the members along with the staff are friendly and polite. I've had some bad experiences in the past with the Johnston location. An odd man would come up to me and ask to edit his book and offered to back up my computer. How creepy! And the staff at the Johnston location are horrible. In summary, they're rude and ignorant. Those reasons drove me away and to Smithfield. My one complaint about this location is the lack of free-weighted squat racks. I don't like deadlifting or squatting on a Smith machine, as I feel a more quality workout with free weights. But overall, there are a decent amount of machines you can use here. Additionally, you can pay $99 cash during the once a year special. No other gym offers such a deal. Overall, this membership is well worth it only if you pay the $99 cash. I wouldn't invest any more money in it besides that. read more

I can't really comment on the facilities as I didn't utilize the equipment... I already had access to another gym and joined this one for a gym buddy who backed out. What I can review is their customer service. From signup to cancellation, the staff were friendly and helpful. However, I was met with a problem... after cancellation, the membership fee drew from my checking account. I keep that account to the dollar for my bills, so it caused an overdraft. I went back to the club with all pertinent documentation... contract, cancellation form, copies of the transaction and overdraft from my online banking. I spoke to the manager, Ricky, and he was very apologetic and a consummate professional. He escalated the issue to the ownership, and they not only refunded the monthly fee but also covered the overdraft. There's a lot to be said for mutual respect. Sure, this was an inconvenience for me, but stuff happens and humans make mistakes (I certainly make my fair share). I came in showing nothing but respect and understanding, only to be met with respect and understanding. This is how good business is executed. I fully stand behind the staff, management, and ownership of this Planet Fitness location. read more

Great gym. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. There is always a good crowd of people, with no specific age group majority. The tanning beds and massage beds are awesome and very clean. The rest of the staff could do better. Had one young male employee actually walk right into me while I was doing a set on cables. My husband and I have been members since the opening of Planet Fitness. The staff are friendly, and I usually see staff cleaning. My only complaint is when a member stacks multiple weights onto the sled machine or squat machines and does not remove them. Staff should be walking around periodically and either remove them or tell the member they must remove them when they are done. Others should not have to use up their time cleaning up after others! You know I use to love coming to this location. Everyone was always so friendly and it was always really clean. Well going in every night me and a friend became friends with the guys who worked overnight. Well we noticed now that there is knew people and the old guys knew we didn't like to be bothered, they would have the new older guys clean near us and make us uncomfortable to work out the way we wanted. The supposed no judgment zone actually leaves you feeling extremely judged and nervous about every little thing you do due to the signs everywhere of what isn't accepted. I missed the one about laughing too loud and was reprimanded. Super bummed the only way out of my contract is to pay for the whole year so I'm stuck just walking on eggshells keeping my mouth shut and head down hoping I don't offend someone by breathing too loudly or enjoying my work out. read more

I've been a faithful black card member for over 12 years and have never had a complaint or issue until today. My wife and I recently started working out together however my wife arrived to the gym 10 min before me and started working out. While on the treadmill she was approached by staff member whom caused a scene and publicly embarrassed my wife over working out and telling her she needs to leave. I understand the rules and have no issues with them however I totally disagree with the way the staff member April (Regional Manager) handled this by causing a scene and publicly embarrassing my wife. When I said it was wrong for her to embarrass my wife and she could have handled it differently she said it's not a big deal it's not like anyone heard her because it's loud in the gym however every treadmill beside my wife was being used and it was pretty clear what she was doing as everyone turned to look. I then asked for her name and said I will be filing a complaint and she said go ahead I'm the regional manager all complaints come back to me anyway. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!! read more

This is a clean gym with very friendly staff. They are always welcoming you when you arrive and they make sure to tell you to enjoy the rest of your day when you leave. There are plenty of cardio machines, along with free weights and lots of machines for lifting. Depending on the time you go depends on how busy the gym is but I have never had a problem with accessing the machine that I needed. Planet Fitness is a chain, a chain that focuses on cardio machines but offers some basic weights, so with that in mind, there's not a lot to say about the chain other than it's affordable at $10 a month. It has lots of cardio machines and enough basic weight equipment for all beginners and most intermediate weight lifters (except those who lift very heavy weights or want more specific free weight oriented equipment) to make use of. There are a lot of pros and some cons about this gym in my several years of going here that I will list to help you decide if it's for you. PROS 1 - inexpensive/affordable 2 - clean 3 - off hours which is nice if you want to go at those off hour times 4 - Well kept and clean shower facilities and locker room (in women's locker - can't say about men's but my guess is they are nice too). 5 - lots of cardio machines with lots of variety (treadmills, step mills, stationary bikes, arc trainers and elliptical trainers) 6 - a reasonable weight selection (con is that really they just don't have a huge variety) 7 - circuit weight area 8 - Large parking area 9 - Good location CONS 1 - Not enough weight machines or variety. If you are hardcore into the weights and want a lot of variety or more specific machines or if you lift very heavy dumbbells, this may not be the place for you. 2 - No stability balls - this is pretty standard for any gym. Perhaps the issue is more that they have no actual open area to use them which brings me to CON #3 3 - No way near enough open space. Just a tiny little spot in the back of the gym. This is sort of a no brainer to have a reasonable sized open space area. Even Anytime Fitness which is about as close as you get to a shoebox has this. It's not a very large area but it's still bigger than the one this planet fitness has. Overall I like this gym. I still hang onto my maxx fitness membership for more involved weight workouts, but this PT for $10 a month is worth it for most people who want access to fitness equipment and aren't looking for a more intensive weight training oriented gym. read more

I went here for the first time yesterday worked out for an hour. The people there are great! It's clean and cool! I love how there's ventilation in there. They have these massive fans that keep it cool. All the equipment is new clean and work great. They have many different and awesome stations there that will help me succeed. read more

So I made an appointment with for a design your own program with the trainer for a 7am even though they also offered me the 11am-12pm appointment to try to get back into the swing of things. I received at a call at 6:45 in the meaning cancelling my appointment due to the trainer being sick but he would be ironically at 11 for is 11am-12pm session. This all sounds like something that makes me think he didn't want to get up early to make it to his appointment. Yet I worked until 1am and I'm dragging myself. Think about the inconvenience your putting on your clients the next time you call in "sick". Looks like I'll be driving out of my way to go to the planet fitness in Johnston. I've been coming here for over a year and have always admired the staff and condition of the gym. However, over the past few months things have slipped. The new staff is not as friendly, the locker room (showers in particular) are not as clean and the equipment is disrepair (the weight selector knobs). This is actually my first time writing a Yelp review, so it should prove how much I love this place for me to come here and write this. I couldn't speak more highly of this gym and the staff here. I've been to a few gyms before, but it never lasted (partly due to me, partly due to not liking the gym). I've been coming here religiously now for about 7 or 8 months and have fallen in love with the place. In that time span, I've never encountered a dirty machine, restroom, stretch mat, etc. I'd even go as far as saying the layout of the gym is great (which, if you saw some other gyms, it might not sound so ridiculous). Anyway, the staff has always been helpful and super nice. I quite literally walked in when I first signed up not knowing how to work a single thing, to now actually having the world of confidence in what everything is and how it works. The bottom line is: I never, EVER thought I'd actually enjoy going to a gym. Worst experience I have ever out of all the gyms I have ever been apart of in my entire life. From the moment I walked into the door I was harassed by the "manager" Belkis at the front door. She was down right miserable and unprofessional. I have never felt so attacked by anyone. I have been a member of planet fitness for over a year and never have any issue and I go to multiple locations. I travel for work and therefore I have been to MANY locations. I was right away attacked about taking a photo when previously it has never been an issue. I explained to BELKIS, that I wasn't feeling up to it today then she attacked me with an attitude. Once I solved that issue I felt I was being harassed seeing she was at the front desk staring at me and talking about me to her coworkers. I was on an important phone call she immediately sent someone over to tell me to get off the phone, the lady working out next to me couldn't believe the behavior seeing there was more then 3 other people on their phones. My entire work out she Was watching me, when I left there was no goodbye have a great day from her. I couldn't believe how I was treated seeing I have been working in customer service for 12 years. I have never been so upset at any gym before. Worst gym experience of my entire life and I do not recommend anyone going to this location. I also will be canceling my membership entirely, that's how turned off I was from Belkis the locations "manager". What a shame. read more

Poor Customer Service from Thug Manager Ray. He is a fast talker and doesn't listen. Dirty facility and broken machines that go without repair. Lesson learned is to meet staff, go into facilities during busy and down times and ask the right questions. I have another gym lined up that meets customer service needs, clean and friendly too.
