This is a great fitness studio, with committed staff and a very scientific understanding of the body and how to strengthen it.

Fitness Together in Providence is a great establishment for personal training. The trainers are always willing to help with any exercise concerns and questions. They make sure you are doing the exercises correctly to avoid injuries. They also write up a program for you to do at home if you request it. Great place! Great people! read more

This place is a joke. It's hard to describe it any other way. I contacted them through their website and they never got back to me. I contacted them again directly through email over a week later and finally was contacted...by none other than the owner Aaron Atwood. He was relatively rude via email, but myself and my girlfriend both decided to go in to interview them and go through their consultation process. When we arrived, on time, for our consultation, we were kept waiting for over 20 minutes because he overlapped his training of some old woman with our consultation. While we looked around the lobby, there was a variety of turn offs immediately present. The decor was terrible. The ceiling was painted metallic silver, the carpet smelled, and the layout was cramped. The music was awful. Not a good start. We finally met Aaron, an abrasive young man, who we later found out owned the place. We got a 3 minute tour of the facility. The facility consisted of 3 "private" studios, otherwise known as cluttered cubby holes packed with crappy equipment. He said they were all alike, but I noticed distinct differences in the equipment in the blur of a tour we received. Trying to keep an open mind I thought, well equipment isn't what we are here for, it's the trainer. We go into the office, sit down, and Aaron the owner immediately tries to get us to fill out paperwork. We pretty much laughed at him and asked him to hold on a bit. Then he inundated us with obnoxious questions and responses, and basically belittled us for not already being in top shape. Ironically, the man himself had love handles that were visible through the two shirts he was wearing. Overall, he was one of the most irritating and grating people I have ever met, and he's supposed to be a motivator? I don't think so. Lets talk about clientele. The place is full of old women. That's it. There is nothing else to it. It might as well be called Curves. If you're serious about getting a trainer, check out Method. Way better. I think it's only fair that I leave you with an example of the lack of professionalism that was overwhelmingly present during our "consultation". On the whiteboard directly across from the interviewing table was a shopping list. Goo Gone and Tampons. Yep, tampons. Nothing says personal training like tampons and goo gone. If you go here, you're making a grave mistake. I'd give it negative stars if I could. Don't waste your time or your money.. Update: My girlfriend reminded me that he wouldn't make an appointment via email and that he was horrible and rude on the phone, and he tried to grill her to see if she was even worth the time of a consultation. He made her painfully aware that we might not "fit" into their program, which quickly became even more offensive when we were able to see their clientele. read more

Have seen great results in the six months I've been a FT client. I really appreciate the custom designed workouts in the 1:1 sessions. Working out w a trainer gives me the motivation and the accountability to work hard. And seeing results in the gym motivated me to drastically improve my nutrition. Aaron, Shane and Antoine are all personable and push me further than I would go on my own but also adjust to any injury or issue I have. It's pricey, but at least I'm seeing results rather than paying less money to a gym I never actually go to. Having to buy new professional clothes because my pants are falling off is another expense, but a welcome one. read more

Initially I contacted the business via their website address(January 2010)- I was emailed back within 24 hours to set up a phone consultation. The owner called me to discuss my fitness goals and history. I am used to face-paced sports specific strength training/coaching and was looking for a place that could help me maintain my level of training. I went in to see if the place could meet my needs and had the energy and experience that I am accustomed to. I went through a workout with a trainer and we felt an individual program could be developed to meet my needs. The studio is clean-has cardio equipment and three private areas where clients work one- on- one with trainers with individual programs. The clientele is diverse, from people who have never worked out before, young and old- to people who have been at fitness centers and are looking for more personal training to achieve their individual goals. Currently they offer a nutritional program that is a necessary addition to a workout program. I have been working with Aaron Atwood and his team of trainers for 6 months to maintain my strength and flexibility. The staff is knowledgeable and professional and make workouts challenging and fun. read more

I've tried multiple personal training programs in the past, both in NYC and Boston at some very overpriced gyms - FT Providence is the only one I have stuck with beyond a handful of sessions. I've been going twice a week for the last 9 months and have seen great results. I've had sessions with all the trainers, and would recommend any of them. I can't believe the one poor review I just read. In my experience, Aaron has been nothing but plesant, professional and flexible. I've even had to change appointments with very little notice (night before!) and have been able to reschedule with no issues - by phone or email at anytime. I travel a lot and this has been a lifesaver! Regarding the clientle - I think there's quite a bit of diversity. I am 35 and have been a distance runner my whole life. I was in great shape when I started, but was looking for some strength training as a compliment. You get what you put in, regardless of where you are/who you are when you start. Finally, I also worked out at FT Providence over the course of my first pregnancy. The trainers were knowledgable about adapations and safety. I came out of it stronger than ever, with none of the "normal" pregnancy aliments. My doctors were very impressed and told me that everyone should be so lucky. I agree! read more

Horrible experience!! The owner, Aaron Atwood is unpersonable and awkward. He doesn't seem to know a thing about fitness as I figured out quickly during my initial assessment with him. He stumbled on answering questions and giggled when he didn't know the answers. Honestly, I think this place is a joke. If you want personal attention and an exercise plan that meets your needs...this is the place. In the past I have gotten hurt exercising with a group or in class. The staff and trainers at Fitness Together are both professional and knowledgeable. They make the whole experience fun...it seems like such a luxury to have a personal trainer in a personal gym, interestingly enough the cost is very reasonable for the service given. read more

I have been with FT since the beginning of 2011, and I am very happy with the owner Aaron Atwood and his staff. The staff not only do "fitness together" (with you during the sessions) but also on occasions when you go in for cardio, they are more than happy to share their knowledge and expertise in the area. They have been extremely flexible especially during the snowy January, always willing to accommodate and work around your schedule. The facility suffices my needs, enough weights, machines and bars in the studio for strength training, a couple of treadmills and elliptic x-trainers along with a shower and bathroom. I have trained with most of the staff and know all of them by name, and found them to be fabulous to be with. I have been a client of Fitness Together in Providence for over 3 years and have trained with Aaron Atwood for most of that time and I could not disagree with the previous reviewer more! Aaron is very professional and knowledgeable and I have never witnessed him being anything but that. The facility is not huge, but it is well equipped and has more than enough space to work one on one with a trainer, which is what Fitness Together is all about. It was never intended to be like the other bigger gyms out there. Their focus is on "one on one" or small groups called "packs" and for that they have enough space and equipment. Mocking Aaron and his clientele was immature and rude and proved that this is not the right place for you to workout. I haven't met a single person at Fitness Together that wasn't trying their best to become more fit, healthy, and happy with themselves and that is, after all, why we are here. read more
