Updating again two months after our membership rates were raised once again. I can't make sense of what program or maintenance features our membership fees are funding. When new equipment is purchased, heavy-use is not prioritized, nor is proactive maintenance. As a result, duct tape is often a key component in repair work. This facility is always clean, the employees are friendly, lots of places to hang out, and there are lots of options for fitness classes. The rock wall is really cool! I would love to see more family/community events, aside from free days for everyone to visit. It's nice that you can register a guest to bring with you. I appreciate that the YMCA offers a sliding scale for different income levels, but the family monthly cost without any discount is a little high. The indoor and outdoor pools are beautiful, but the summer aqua pass is an additional expense of $150 which feels a little excessive. read more

MacColl YMCA is AMAZING. The staff are all so friendly, welcoming, and helpful!! The range of classes is excellent, and now the offer fun and exciting "pop up" classes, and short-term five week classes in new, different things that bring excitement and an opportunity to change up your workout routine, such as Belly Dancing, Myofasial Release, and Glutes & Core!! It cost 75 for a single family membership. I love the pool. We go at least every other day. I am a big fan of laps. They have inside/outside pools. The pool is warm! I've been to other YMCAs and it's too cold inside the indoor pool. Lifeguards are attentive to children and calm. They will also watch kids for 2hrs each day I choose to work out in the gym. The rock climbing wall is large with all the bells & whistles. This place is NICE! Staff id love a tour to learn more about your facility because I believe I've only scratched the surface. read more

As a parent with young children, joining the YMCA was a no brainer. Childcare, workout classes, and a strong sense of community was very important to me, and the YMCA offers many more opportunities than other gyms. What I really want to point out is that this YMCA is not part of the Greater Providence network- which includes most of RI. This is part of the Pawtucket network, which also includes the Newman Y in MA. This particular YMCA costs a tad more than other YMCA memberships, because of the perks, like the indoor pool. When I lived in Providence, I chose to be a member here in Lincoln over my local YMCA because I feel the pool facilities here are top in the state. The family indoor splash pad and family pool are always open, which is a godsend for rainy days with kids. The childcare workers are kind and lovely, and also are comfortable changing diapers, which most ymcas are not. Since I moved out of Providence, I now belong to a different YMCA, but still occasionally make the drive to Lincoln for use of their pool. If I were to utilize their childcare, since I am out of network, I would have to pay $3 per kid, which still isn't bad. When my children get a tad older, I will also how to make use of their indoor rock climbing wall. Overall, a great YMCA for families! read more

I love this place. A few reviews mentioned rude staff, but, to be honest, I've found them all to be wildly nice! I've never had a negative experience with any of them (life guards, admins, camp counselors, etc). The facility is absolutely beautiful, especially the pool area. Great facility! The space is quite nice, tucked away towards the back of the campus. It's well lit, clean, and has ample machines and free weights to work out without waiting to use the equipment. There's also a lap pool on the bottom level and the employees are always there to help out! When we went, it looked pretty busy judging by the cars in the parking lot (yay for ample parking), but inside you would never know it! Lots of space to roam around without feeling claustrophobic. I liked the layout and the large windows that overlook the trail running below is nice scenery while you're working out! BONUS: free wifi throughout! Enjoy! read more

Yeah, I'm gonna be brutally honest here. PARENTAL ADVISORY WARNING! EXPLICIT LANGUAGE! I used to go to this place for the summer day camp, which was six hours long. I was so glad when I found out I didn't have to go to this place anymore. Here's why, buckle up! First off, the locker rooms where you change to use the pool were fucking disgusting! The floors were slimy and the whole locker room smelt of piss. As If some homeless guys snuck in and had a piss fight during the night. The bathrooms on the side of the pavilion were no better than a public restroom on the side of the highway. They reeked of piss. Probably same homeless guys. They tried getting rid of the piss smell with those Glade air cone things. Didn't work. There was no air conditioning inside that bathroom and it was hot and humid. Their policy on phones was / is a bit daft. You couldn't use your phone during your time there. Mind you, this was a time when smart phones weren't really a thing yet. But still how is texting a big no no? What if a camper had an emergency and could only use their cell phone to get in contact with someone? That'll backfire on ya! I can only imagine how they treat this policy now regarding phones. A good amount of the counselors are kids fresh out of high school and or are still in college. 17-20's range. A good amount of them had a bit of a power trip attitude to them. I'll give you an example of something that actually happened: During the summer I was off of my medication which would cause me to be very tired / sleep. I would sleep in the air conditioned building that my group was in for the day. My counselor had a problem with this. So she told me "Tim, if I see you sleeping again, you're going outside and picking up trash." I thought okay whatever and dosed off again. She caught me and made get up, and walk around the pavilion and pick up trash like some inmate on the side of the highway. There was also this rule that if you didn't eat your lunch then you couldn't go afternoon swimming. Yeah, they take their jobs too seriously, you're not correctional officers, you're in charge of a bunch of kids at a summer camp. Calm down. Safe to say, I didn't like going here, sure, I had some fond memories. But a majority of the experience was not one I would look back on with fun times. Especially when many of my friends didn't have to go to summer camps that I knew of. I didn't get to stay home and enjoy a good amount of the summer break like I wished I could have. read more

They figure they can treat you like absolute garbage...I spent less than 60 seconds conversing with a lifeguard and it consisted of him speaking to me like he'd love to lose my business...well, mission accomplished!...my daughter went from swimming on her own and standing higher than the water line a month ago to requiring a 1 on 1 swimming companion...I don't think the lifeguard should be dealing with kids and I don't wish to return so long as he's still employed there...this was the final straw of being treated like an unvalued annoyance read more

Every member here is supplied with children as part of their monthly payment. I have actually stopped drinking the water in case there is something in it that increases fertility. I didn't know that Rhode Island even had this many children. I actually think I went there once for a spin class and left with 3 that claim to be mine but they really don't even look like me. I think the problem is that when I was last there I saw a child drop off area but no child pick up area. I actually think people are leaving children their children there until they are old enough to escape or they smuggle themselves out of there with members driving minivans. This Y also has a ton of amenities that probably are the root of their population demographic such as: Indoor pool with water slide Indoor rock climbing wall Outdoor pool with water slide Child care Their program brochure leaves me scratching my head wondering "how am I going to fit in work with all these programs?" I really only go there for the spin class as I was banned from Zumba after an ambulance was called because they thought I was having some sort of a seizure. If I were to fault the Y for anything (hence the 4 stars) it would be that while they are willing to open at the crack of dawn for classes they really hate anyone who wants to work out past 8:30. I believe that they should be open nightly until 10pm and at 8pm on the weekends. Stay Fit Lincoln and try to limit your kid-count - they may look cute but they grow up and have you seen college tuitions? read more

As someone who has gone to several YMCA's throughout my lifetime, I must say that MacColl is the best. Facilities: The facilities themselves are very new and clean. The pool alone is fantastic and even has an indoor water slide for more advanced swimmers. While I have seen many YMCA's struggle with cleanliness, this location is quite clean for how busy it is. They have ample space inside for basketball courts, mountain climbing and so much more. Programs: It's been very hard to get into local swimming programs at many places bur we have been really lucky to get into several here. This place has absolutely turned my daughter from a terrified girl who was afraid of the pool, to a little fish who loves to swim. The prices of the classes are reasonable and the teachers (while young) are very responsible and good at their jobs. Summer Camp: My daughter had a bad summer at another local camp due to lack of structure. I had placed here in the YMCA camp last summer and was impressed with all of the different programs they had available (dance camp, nature camp etc.). My daughter always seemed happy and fulfilled at the structure and fun this camp provided and while more expensive than some other ones, I feel it's definitely worth it. We are excited to have her attend this summer and hope it's just as enjoyable as last year. All in all, this YMCA is fantastic and I would highly recommend it. read more

This is a really nice YMCA. Lots of things for kids as well. Locker room and work out area have always been clean. The classes are excellent, and there's a lot as far as the variety of classes and programs that are offered. Down side is that it is pricey, in my opinion. I feel like $75 for a Family is a bit expensive, but I guess you have to pay more for a nice place. Overall, this is one of the nicest YMCA's that I've been to. My son LOVES the splash area at the pool. The only complaint I have is that some of the staff teaching the children's classes seem a little 'young' to be doing it. read more

On the surface this looks like a nice facility but let me point out some of the negatives.  - The spin room is poorly ventilated and the PA system hardly ever works.  Good luck hearing the instructor from the back of the room.  And the bikes are old and need maintenance.  - The rock wall wasn't laid out by someone that knows anything about rock climbing.  The routes are inconsistent.  There is only one route that is suitable for beginners and even that one is too hard for most beginners.  Plus, they don't offer chalk bags or shoes so your hands get raw and it is difficult to climb in sneakers. I consider myself a solid 5.9-5.10 climber and I only found 2 routes that I could do.  Part of that is due to not having chalk or shoes.  - The indoor pool is often closed for swim meets or practice and the water features periodically break.  It is also too cold for most small children.  My kids could only stand it for 30 minutes at most.  Plus, they use too much chlorine which burned our eyes and required a shower and a wash of our suits when we got home.  - Most of the instructors for the kids swim lessons are high school kids who look like they don't want to be there.  I heard the same thing about their camps too so we never put our kids in them.  - To use the outdoor pool in the summer is an extra $300+ and it is cold and nothing special.  The community pool is often off limits to non campers. - The weight/cardio room is nice and the machines work well but they need more than two bikes.  That said it can be hard to find any open machine at times.  In all, I didn't feel like we got our money's worth.  We spent over $1200/year for a cold indoor pool, crappy spin room, a ho hum outdoor pool. and unusable rock wall.  For that money they should at least have a hot tub.  You are better off going to someplace like Planet Fitness for much less money. The final straw and why I am writing this review is the cancellation process.  I called to cancel and they told me to write an email to a specific address so I did.  After not hearing back for a couple weeks I requested a confirmation that they received my email.  She writes back and says that since I was a few days past my billing cycle that they would bill me again and my membership would cease after that month.  Two months after I requested to cancel my membership!  They say they need 30 days notice to stop charging my card.  I made the argument that I wasn't like and employee or tenant where they had to find my replacement so why the 30 days?  Her response, "its our policy".  Some policy.  Yes, I get that the entire fitness club industry would collapse if everyone actually used their membership.  They require a large portion of their members to not show up or they would go out of business.  But to charge me for two months after I cancel is just wrong.   They should have canceled it on that day and refunded my unused portion. read more

Surprised this NEW facility didn't get 5 stars from every reviewer here. I attended an indoor birthday party today and couldn't believe my eyes. New state-of-the-art facility that looks like a pricey private fitness center, but shockingly affordable. Nicest YMCA I've seen in the US so far--no kidding. Clean and well maintained. Two large outdoor pools with water slides and pool basketball board. One giant resort-like indoor pool with a giant water slide, kiddie splash and wading area, lap swim area. Kids love the Rock climbing wall! There's a gym, after-school programs for children, etc. Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff. Feeling lucky that we're only a few minutes away. Hopefully it won't get too crowded as more people discover this. read more

This review is only for their summer camp. The facility itself is beautiful and if I were closer I would be a member to use their fitness area. However, I strongly recommend you stay away from their summer camp. The hours are great, but the facilities themselves are horrible. They don't let the kids go inside to use the bathroom so the kids have to use porto-potties. But that wasn't my real issue. When I think of the YMCA summer camp, I think of the great Kurt Russell movie Escape From New York. The outside area is surrounded by 17 year-olds who don't know what they're doing and see their only real job is keeping anyone from getting outside or inside the perimeter. Inside, it's a lawless, ruleless domain where physical size and intimidation rules. My son was horribly bullied by older kids and, even though he went to the counselors, they did nothing about it. An older camper stole something my son had brought, and when my son told the counselor, the counselor asked him to prove that it was his. He didn't even talk to the boy who stole from my son. Also, another boy kept stealing things out of people's backpacks, and although the counselors were aware they did nothing about it. Unfortunately, he didn't tell me about it until it had been going on for a while. When I went to go talk to someone the person I talked to seemed bothered that I was making a big deal about it. I pulled him out that day and we haven't been back since. read more

We love this Y! We joined last summer and come a few times each week. My kids love swimming in the pool, the indoor slide, and the rock wall. They even love going to child watch, which I didn't think they'd be too excited about. The facilities are always very clean, the front desk staff are pleasant, and they have a steam room in the non family locker rooms. I like the bathing suit spinner as well, it gets your suit dry before you put it in your bag. They have summer camp programs and 2 outdoor pools. One you have to join like a pool club, but the other you can pay a little extra to go to. All in all we really like this place, the gym and group classes are nice and I want to try other classes like yoga and spin. read more

Brand new facility with excellent equipment and indoor rock wall for the whole family! We have been members for a few months now and I really enjoy getting to the Y, whether it is as a family or just on my own. The facility is state-of-the-art and I really like that I can workout on cardio equipment and watch my son swim in the pool. Even better, they have an adult only locker room with a steam room. It's great to be able to use the showers and steam room without dealing with unsupervised or unruly children! Check out the Y if you are looking for a new place to workout or take a class! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this Y. Granted it is a little more expensive than your average gym (I think that helps to keep a certain element out), but look at everything they have to offer.... the pool, rock wall, basketball, zumba classes, spin classes, water aerobics....etc. This is all INCLUDED in your monthly membership & the best part about it is there is ALWAYS a machine available for me to use.... I never have to wait for an elyptical/treadmill/bike to come available, even during peak hours!! It's clean! & I really like the fact that there is always a personal trainer availabe if you have any questions about how to use a particular machine. read more

Beautiful YMCA yes but like everyone else has mentioned, the staff SUCKS. They are so rude, especially the "kids" employed at the front desk. As if they're doing me a favor answering my questions. I honestly cringe every time I have to call them or sign my kids up for anything. That said, the outdoor pool is nice - we belonged to the pool club this year. The indoor pool is also nice but usually pretty crowded. My biggest compliant would be the rude staff, expensive membership ($75/month, plus a few hundred for the outdoor pool and I think there was an application fee too) and on top of that, my mom/dad who want to come and sit and watch my kids play with my husband and I in the pool have to pay $25 (after the initial visit) - seems excessive. We'll probably join the private pool/tennis club up the street next summer for what it cost us this year. read more

I was not impressed at all! I live in North Providence and this Y is the closest to me but I prefer to drive 20 minutes to make it to the Y in Warwick. The handful of times I have been to the Lincoln Y the staff was very rude and seemed to never want to be bothered with questions. The woman at the front desk was rude and unhelpful. I was trying to find information out to buy a membership for a family that lives in Lincoln RI. She shoved paperwork at me, told me to fill it out and come back. That I could not, positively not actually purchase a membership that day. When I asked if they give discounts for AAA members or people that live in RI she went disdainful, condescending to me that I had the audacity to ask. Now mind you, there was NO ONE in the area I was in, the phones weren't ringing. When I mentioned this to a friend that lives in the area she said, oh, I know who you mean, not nice, that is why we do not go there. The Lincoln YMCA does not require the use of a swimming cap in the pool. As a result we risk swimming into floating webs of hairs that coalesce inside the pool. Furthermore, while the YMCA announces to all members that they do their best to keep at least a lane for free laps--that is not true. The pool schedule is dominated by school programs and as a result other paying members are unable to swim. I have been forced out of lap swimming by school instructors-- as if I were not a paying member also entitled to use the pool. I have shared these concerns with the front desk, but nothing has been done and they dismiss all that you say. I just cancelled my membership. read more

I switched our family membership to a youths recently since the summer is busy and we will rarely go. Unfortunately whoever processed it changed the membership but continued to draft the family rate. I had to call to have them correct it and the credited my account. I went to sign my little up for camp and the program he usually attended was full so I had him waitlisted and put him in a different camp. I only need camp for 2 days and noted this. They failed to tell me that the camp he was enrolled in was full time only. I noticed the draft for $160 come out of my account instead of $90 and called. I assumed it was a processing error but it was due to the camp being full time only. Since I only work a few days a week this would be costly and pointless. The lack of communication cost me a $25 cancellation fee. I left a few voicemails and no one returned my calls. Finally I spoke to Janet in membership who told me that someone actually noted on the paperwork that I knew it was full time only?! This literally made no sense. Why would I bother just to get stuck with a fee and potentially no child care? Luckily a spot had opened on the wait list for the group and Janet was able to get him on and save the day. She's an Angel. They have some great employees there but the lack of communication and I could give a shit less attitude from some staff stinks. The front desk seems to have a high turnover rate. There's been a few annoying instances but overall the child care program is great so we stay. My son has a treenut/peanut allergy and there are few peopleI trust to care for him. read more

Perfect top notch machines you get a personal built in TV on most treadmills and step machines. Every thing is brand new the weight machines are easy to use and if you need help the staff can assist you. Down stairs theres a big pool which is great. There an indoor rock gym with auto belay system. Basketball courts. In the summer you have an outdoor pool so two pools great machines. Worth the bill for a high quality gym centre. read more

A former member of the Kent County YMCA, I have pretty high expectations. Yes, this Y is beautiful- no question. The hours however are unaccommodating. They close earlier in the winter, when it's too dark to run outside- and often start asking members to get off machines 30 minutes prior to closing (despite my multiple conversations w/management). Additionally, the website is never up to date as far as classes, cancellations etc. I have attempted to attend classes (on multiple occasions) only to discover upon arrival that the instructor is unavailable, so there will be no class. These were not sudden emergencies either. I also find the class schedule is not as robust or well timed as Kent County. There are practically no early morning classes. The earliest Group Exercise Class is at 9:30 during the week. I used to take the Boot Camp class at Kent County at 5AM and loved it. If you want to take a spin class (5:30AM available) good luck! It's the smallest spin room I've ever seen, so even if you call ahead to reserve your spot- it's tough to get on the list. This place has great potential. I wish that they'd use the member feedback to develop programming that meets members' needs. A beautiful facility is a great thing, but I'm paying each month for the access to classes and equipment. I also agree w/ the previous poster, the child care center was not a priority when this facility was designed. This YMCA is the only gym in the area... So you might need to use it, we do. Hopefully it will get better! read more

Don't EVER send your child to camp here! The so-called counselors are rude, spend their time socializing, and just yell at the kids instead of helping them learn how to handle conflict appropriately. There is nothing for them to play with and there is absolutely no creativity happening. Worst experience for my 4-yr olds ever. read more

I joined the Y about a month ago as I am training for a sprint tri and I needed pool access. I looked into a lot of gyms but the Y seemed to be the best deal for what was included. It's a new facility (opened last summer) and everything is in great shape and seems to be maintained well which is a plus. The gym/work out area is in a really nice spot that makes it seem open and airy rather than going into a dudgeon to work out (which honestly some gyms feel that way). The pool is clean and warm just seems to be a little more busy than I would like. I take a weekly spin class there as well that is fantastic. It's been pretty busy lately but I never have a problem finding a machine its just finding the perfect time for lap swimming. The locker rooms are nice and clean and have tons of lockers and steam rooms which is nice. They are also have adult only locker rooms which is great since the teeny-boppers tend to wreck a locker room fast. Every single staff member I've spoken to has been super nice and helpful which is amazing since half of them seem to be high school or college students (not to generalize but some teenagers could care less about being helpful as long as they are getting paid). I appreciate that they find staff with good personalities that great you by name when you scan your membership card. read more

We have been members at this ymca since the new facility opened. We have been happy with all aspects. The staff at the desk are helpful when scheduling classes. The childwatc has improved with the kids doing art projects and other organized activities. I don't mind that it is just a room with toys, what more does a child ask for! My kids are always happy to go there to play. read more
