When I arrived at the gym a couple of weeks ago I was told the men's change room was closed. Is that still the case????

A lot of people look down on Planet and I can understand it, to an extent, being no frills and all. Personally, I've been in the market for a local gym three times (the first time, after the lockdown, and after a medical interruption) and three times I've chosen Planet over other gyms. Leaving aside the many locations that are available should you choose the premium membership, this location has all the free weight and weight machine equipment you could want (minus the regular bench presses, which is a dealbreaker for some) plus hoards of cardio machines. The gym goers pretty much mind their own business and there really is no "gym-timidation." What I like the most is that the floor is very clean. As in any gym, some people don't clean after themselves (tisk tisk), but the staff is always going around cleaning. My two negatives: occasionally some people are rude and talk on the phone while using the cardio equipment, which is clearly marked as against the rules and no one ever confronts them about it. The other is that the locker rooms could be cleaner. The showers seem fine (haven't showered at the gym in a long time, though) but the toilets and sink need more attention. read more

So I have been a on-off member for a few years. On one hand there $10 level is what you would expect. A no frills gym experience. Even pre COVID they had plentiful cardio machines and a variety of weight machines that at worst you had a shirt wait for. Post pandemic they are pretty open. So the equipment. It's no frills. I've been on worse treadmills and Elliptical machines and bikes but there are many far nicer ones. They get the job done. But don't come here thinking you can use your smart phone GymKit or fancy Bluetooth tracking etc. Free weights are a bit sparse and crowded. Like every other gym some folks are decent and out the weights back- others not so much. I've found the lockers to be decent and clean. I see the staff wiping things down a lot both in the lockers and in the gym itself. Main complaint in 2021-2022 is the lack of social distancing and lack of enforcement. I get the staff are paid poorly and likely understaffed. But don't say you are COVID safe and have all of these socially 'fitness' signs and have 4 people in a row using machines and ignoring them. Also their mask policy is hands off. Masks optional even though the town has now required them to be worn again with Omicron. For $10 bucks a month it gets the job done. No frills but it's got the core stuff. Not sure I would ever see the value of the $20 u less I needed multiple locations. read more

Do not come to this location The staff members think it's appropriate to ring the sirens thirty minutes before close time. The ringing is non stop and very annoying. I find this disturbing because i do not pay my membership to have my ears blown out. Claudio is very rude and told me it's routine. I'm also reporting this to planet fitness corporate. read more

Love this gym, always clean, staff is friendly, and it's never crowded. At this time of the year, all the New Years resolutions have been broken. Gyms aren't as full as January and February. Plenty of tvs and machines to use. I especially enjoy the two separate rooms. I can switch machines within the given timer and not over working my body. If I had more time I would come back more often. Great start for my work week. Can't wait to return soon. read more

This is one of the best gyms I've been to. I've been to probably about 5 different planet fitness locations from traveling or moving and this one is the best. The workers are always kind and working. Equipment is out-dated, rusty, and missing pieces. Most machines have the weight plate numbers worn off. Machines are not organized or grouped together for upper body or lowers body so you have to walk across the gym to search for machines that should obviously be placed next to each other. If you look up at the air duct vents in the ceiling they are BLACK! Did they ever clean them out? Locker room looks like it's stuck in the 90's. Rusted lockers. Dirty. Compared to other Planet Fitness locations, this one is depressing and hasn't been updated in 60 years. Won't be coming back! read more

When they first opened everything was on point. Quality has went down a bit. Hard to find a paper towel thing that is actually giving paper towels. Even the bathrooms. Do away with the automatic they are such a hassle. Other than that still no problems here. People are nice. TVs have the good shows. Machines work. Gym This gym is my home gym being the best around the Piscataway area. Machines are generally in working condition and clean. Members generally clean the machines after use. There are always stair climbers, ellipticals, bikes, treadmills, and mountain climbers available for use. Most of the weight machines are open or have a short weight. Locker rooms are generally clean sometimes the showers could use some work. There is also no shampoo or soap in the showers so you have to bring your own. Black member lounge My only complaints are about the black member lounge. First one is about the hydro massage beds. They only have one reclining bed and it seems to always be broken or needing to be fixed. The computer to sign up for the beds could also be setup better. Some gyms I go to have a scanner for your keys so you don't have to type in your membership number. They also don't have a "lounge seating room like some gyms". This one isn't really a biggie just would be nice to have a space your guest could sit and watch tv since they can't use the beds or chairs. ***UPDATE*** they have improved on keeping the lounge chair working more. They also setup the scanner for making appointments. read more

Holger is such a charismatic and welcoming guy always making cool conversation as soon as I started coming back. This place is pretty clean and empty for the weekend, but it is MDW. The staff is friendly and helpful, but for a relatively empty place the bathroom was a bit dirty and there was a lack of spray cleaners around the huge facility. The weights are also nicely racked and properly put back in place. I've come here on a weekday during peak hours, and it's remained pretty clean as well. It does get a bit crowded but the machines free up pretty quickly. I love that this place has a lot of different machines to choose from, and a lot of stretching equipment!! It also has a pretty big stretching area separate from the workout machines, which is nice to do other calisthenics. read more

I like this planet fitness in comparison to many others I've been to. Located right off of Easton avenue next to the taco Bell, pizza hut, and Masala Bay, it's very accessible but it could use more parking space. When you enter all of cardio machines are lined up seeming endlessly because are just so so many machines from tread mills, upright and seated bikes, ellipticals stair masters you name it. Per usual they have the tanning and massaging beds but I haven't used them. My gf is the black card member and I always just tag along with her to various planet fitness. I was impressed with how well racked the weights were. Nothing out of order and no weights on the ground. This is a good sign of smart and respectable patrons and hopefully good management too. The bathrooms were clean and not smelly and they had tons of lockers. This may be one of the biggest planet fitness I've been to. However for me, the dumbbells don't go up that high, they don't have a standing half raise machine, they don't have any straight bar exercises (so no bench press, incline press, dead lifts, you name it unless you use the Smith machine). This is why I also need to have my own gym (got a membership with retro) But for 10$ for one local gym or 20$ to access all gyms and use the tanning/massage bed/discounted items, you cannot beat planet fitness prices. read more

Worst customer service and ridiculous policies supposedly hidden in the fine print. Went to cancel my daughters membership which I had opened when she was 16 and now that she has gone to college in another state, they want her to come in to cancel, an email will not do, reason she is 18 now and an adult and according to Planet Fitness policy an email is not considered "in writing". Mind you taking the money every month on my debit card wasn't an issue, and still charging it. Maybe a good place to exercise but definitely lost customer service. I love this gym! Large facility with a great variety of machines and many so you never have to wait. There is also two padded areas to stretch and do floor work which is very important. I have been to gyms that have only 3 feet by 3 feet area (good luck finding space) to stretch so I really appreciate the layout of this gym. The 30 minute area is awesome for workout and it has the right machines to isolate and strengthen the muscles. They keep up with new cardio equipment which are easy on the joints as well as the traditional ones so everybody no matter what your level is can find an awesome workout. Lastly, the friendly staff who greet you are just great. This is really the best gym I have used and recommend it! read more

The only reason I have a membership to this terrible gym is because I lived in central pa and that's all they had. I've been paying for the black membership for years. I really like this planet fitness location. I used to go to the one in Edison, but that one is desperately in need of a renovation. The Somerset location is always very clean and the staff is friendly. It can get busy at peak hours but I've never had to wait long for any of the equipment. Love this gym and the location. We switched from LA Fitness to Planet Fitness and we are so glad we made the switch. We are saving a lot of money..The staff here are warm and super friendly. The gym is always clean. Sometimes they have special (food) treats for the members to show appreciation. The only thing I miss about LaFitness is the sauna. Great gym... no other way to put it, for the cheapest price around this gym is huge, very clean, and has plenty of working machines and free weights. The membership is pretty upfront where you can basically cancel at any time, or you can lock in a $10 a month rate with a 12 month commitment. This gym also has tanning beds, standup tanning, hydro massage tables and chairs all at the members disposal. And of course, the most important part it is open 24 hours a day, for people like me that work Nightshift's and can only get to the gym at all awkward hours of the morning. read more

Just a few weeks after I paid my yearly dues, he decides to arbitrarily cancel my membership. Of course- why wouldn't he? He received 6 months' worth of payments while only providing 2 months of actual services/access. He hung up on me, canceled my membership, and when I called back to gain some closure as to WTF just happened, his Secretary relayed that he didn't wish to speak to me and to "have a nice day." I called because I received an email about a past due balance despite seeing payments taken out regularly. Had no idea it would end in me never being a Planet Fitness customer ever again. I was looking for a gym membership that I could give as a gift for Valentine's Day. The folks at this location make it impossible for you do business with them. 1) You can't give a gift membership 2) You can't pay upfront for a year's access to their location 3) You must choose between one of two options with "no commitment" 4) In order to pay them - You must give them direct access to your checking account---hmm, that's a commitment Lessons learned: Other PF locations will allow you to pay by credit card, this one won't. You have no liability protection when you allow someone to do an ACH transfer directly from your bank account. Even if you really wanted to give someone your money, there are some businesses that are SO shortsighted they will institute some jackalope rules that will keep you from spending your $$$ there. read more

The gym is nice because it's new but the only thing that bothers me is the tanning beds. I went tanning and the beds looks disgustingly dirty. They said that there's employees that clean the beds but when I saw it, there were finger prints, knee prints and marks all over the bed. They leave the cleaning solution in there and when I tried to clean it, it dried with spots still all over the bed. read more

I tried signing up and did not have my checking account information on me. I was surprised that they did not allow credit cards. I asked if they had a a 1 or 3 day pass as most gyms do. They did not have a pass. Instead they gave me the option to pay $20 to work out. I did not accept this offer because as I was looking around at the front desk, I realized they did not have any type of weights (free or machine). It was all cardio equipment in this particular gym. Not as many free weights as are needed on busy days. Very crowded sometimes on the weekends. But for the price, you can't beat it.

This gym is clean and I've enjoyed working out there but I will likely be quitting soon. The only way to join is to give access to your checking account. I took the risk and now I'm sorry. They charged my account a random extra annual fee (I already paid my annual fee and they took it out again 6 months later). I've called several times, including to a corporate number and no one has called me back - it's been two weeks. I believe this "mistake" was intentional since no one is willing to explain how it happened. I believe they were hoping I wouldn't notice and I wonder how many other people have had extra money taken from their accounts. I was never comfortable joining with a bank account and this is exactly why. They have confirmed to me that they shouldn't be trusted. read more
