Overall, it's a decent gym. Inconsistency in the RULES has produced this review. Few months back they busted a few of our asses about 'bags' being out in the gym area. I carry a few attachments which definitely differ in appearance than what they have on the floor. However, today in the bumper plate room, there were eight 45 lb plates that belong on a regular floor, which takes them out of use for those machines. Other plates aren't supposed to be used. There's a sign stating that rule. Yet, nothing is done because this is not the first time. I'm all for the high school and college kids coming in at a reduced price and working out but they need to follow the same rules. A lot of them have no gym etiquette, not to mention they're going to hurt themselves with some of the s*** that I've seen. If you want to bust on me for hanging my bag on a cable machine on one of the handles that keeps it off the floor and tell me it could be a trip hazard. Good selection of equipment but in general disrepair. I don't go for classes, I go to use the equipment, which is poorly maintained. As of this morning, both the rowing machine seats have issues with the bearings and on one of them the display is barely functional. The water level for resistenace is poorly maintained. Many treadmills are not fuctioning properly and some are not functioning at all. Some of the staff could at least pretend they like their jobs and not be short with members. Do not care for the middle-aged African American manager's attitude. Beyond ride and abrasive. Does not understand the meaning of customer service. His behavior (or lack thereof) causes my friends and I to drive out of our way to a different location, even though this is the closest one to us. Someone should really speak to this manager about the way in which he addresses customers and learning a lesson in humility. On countless occasions, his behavior has been very upsetting and ruined the gym-going experience. Do better Planet Fitness. read more

1. The shower rooms are always dirty, with empty soap and toothpaste containers left on the floor, for days. No soap in the dispensers. Don't even know if you ever really clean and disinfect the stalls; I've never seen it really clean. The "one" nice bench for all the lockers is a joke, and the small bench belongs in an elementary school locker room. One garbage can?? Really? The urinals should flush automatically as no one will touch the handle and then the machines, at least I won't. 2. I had to purchase a good full headset to listen to my music as your room volume is overwhelming, and I had to drown it out. 3. I do like the machines, cardio, and cables, and that's really why I go. But I am thinking of switching to the Ellington Y, as the atmosphere is much quieter and there's more to do. AND, it's clean!! read more

This is one of the better Planet Fitness facilities I've been to. The cardio equipment is very good and there's lots of it. You won't be waiting for a treadmill or elliptical. It's clean and when something breaks, the team fixes it fast. It's a little more a mixed bag on the weights. There are tons and tons of weight machines. For me, they are great to mix in, but I prefer regular dumbbells and barbells. At peak times, and not so peak times, the benches are full and so are the smith machines. I guess Planet Fitness does not do barbells outside of smith machines, because they are nowhere to be found. When you can slide into a bench, you are good. I am concerned about air quality at this Vernon location. On 7/15/22 the air temp was 73.5 F and there has been a broken A/C unit in there for weeks. (I have photos of the thermostats which could not be uploaded to this post). This Planet Fitness has NO FANS; I have been asking for fans for months. Is there a HVAC system that is working? What is the humidity set at? The owner says to see the front office staff about this concern. The Cardio Express in Vernon is fine. Not great, but it gets the job done, and they finally finished a lot of the installs a few months back. It is a good mix of generally average people of varying age and fitness, so not too many people should feel uncomfortable working out here. They also have tanning rooms, which seem to be kept pretty clean, and a lot of cardio equipment. My main complaint would be this location tends to play the same music all the time, and it's typically that pseudo pop crap that only preteens or 20 something girls listen to... the music at the Manchester location is slightly more tolerable. Either way, I bring my running headphones with me, because nothing is less motivating to staying on the treadmill then being annoyed. Wishlist... I should be able to store a credit card or load money onto my account, and pay for water or protein shakes with my member card, that would be nice. I don't like always having to carry around my wallet if I'm going to want to get a water later. read more

Just started back here after a 2 year hiatus (worked as a farmer so really no need for the gym with that much physical labor). I enjoy the convenience of planet fitness and have the black card membership, allowing me to visit any other PF i choose to while traveling. The gym is usually very clean and it's a nice atmosphere with all other clients I encounter during my visits. This gym is good, but I wouldn't consider it great or having any significant improvement since the pandemic hit. Nothing has really changed aside from higher rates, shorter hours and a staff that, again, is good, but not great. Not as friendly or welcoming as I remember from 2 years ago. Theres always a lingering attitude whenever you ask questions regarding anything aside from buying additional items/products. Cant blame them for their pay, but when the main advertisement for this chain is the friendly gym that accepts everyone, it really doesnt get depicted as that. read more

This morning I visited a different PF. I had some question re my acct and a couple other things. I was going part a PF in Vernon Ct and I went in. There was 1 person behind the counter and I introduced myself and proceeded to explain why I was there. She has to be 1 of the most patient people I have ever met. I asked her name and it Amy, Not to mention it was on her name tag. She was able to answer all my question pretty quickly and nicely. I'm giving her 5 stars simply because her customer service skill were exemplary. I just happen to be a director of a large call center. I know good customer service. Please thank her again for the job well done. While answering my questions she continued to check people in and assist them. Never missing a beat with. Multi Tasking 101. I was impressed. I joined this gym in January 2023 and right away I had problems with them. For whatever reason, the annual fee they charge did not go through when I joined and a month later I was billed a $15 late fee was charged. I called to find out what the issue was and I was told I should update the info for the annual charge and I would not be charged for the next month. So I explained that does not cover the $15 dollar charge and that I would need the refund. I was told they could not do that at the club and only the corporate office could do that. This was not true. I called the corporate offices and they told me that this is a franchise and they do not handle any of that, and that the franchisee handles refunds. I called back and told them what the corporate office said, and they told me the owner would give me a call back. Several weeks later I called and I told them I was going to cancel my membership and they again told me I would get a call back. No call. 3 times I called and no resolution. I was told they could not refund, just credit a month. After reading the other reviews, this is a recurring theme of not working with their members. I would beware of this club and it's ownership as it is not friendly to it's members. In response to the management's comments that were left: Thank you for your response but if you were striving for "stellar customer service" I would not have been lied to and then ghosted for something so simple that could have been rectified over $15. Then you double down on that "stellar customer service' by suggesting if you don't like our "stellar customer service", you should cancel your membership. PF may claim to be a judgement free zone, but this Planet Fitness is unquestionably a "stellar customer service" free zone. Beware of this club. read more

At first I was pumped that planet fitness took over cardio express and that's why I ended up joining since I used to be a member a couple of years go. I signed up with the black card so I could get free wifi, visit any store, and use the massage equipment. So far the wifi worked once the first day I went, and they haven't brought in any massage chairs and hydro bed. Super disappointed and seriously considering about downgrading. In response to the companies comment I did and asked to make a complaint. I was told that they already knew about the Internet issue so there was no point in making one. read more

It's really sucks!! I want to end my membership on August, but it's said the policy need to be at least one year. Then, when I end it on December because it's exactly one year. The other stuff said I need to pay for one more month. I don't know why. It's said it's on the policy. Then I thinks, okay, I will just pay for one more month. Today I notice there is $54 extra charge on my card. I called to ask. The stuff said oh it's the annual maintenance fee. I don't know why I need to pay for that. I already terminate my membership. Out of the cardio express facilities I've been to, this is one of my favorites. The facility is very clean and has never had that sweaty gym smell you get at other gyms. The lockers are nice and all work with the locking hook. The staff are unbelievably friendly. They always greet you and are very knowledgeable. The spin instructors are all great and give a great workout. They also offer small 6 person size classes ranging from abs to full body weightless workouts that are very challenging and give you good instructions on how to properly do each step of the workout. Very happy with my membership at this location. read more

Good value for $10 a month. You never wait for a machine, regardless of when you workout. Usually clean, but carpet could use some updating. I get a gift certificate for a one-year membership once a year instead of paying monthly on a credit card. Free small group training and spin classes with an upgraded membership. read more

Really BAD experience when canceling the membership!!! When I was registering in Xpress, I was told that it only works when I have a moving-out document, or they would charge me for two more months. So I thought they were going to automatically sign me out after one year if I did not tell them that I was going to renew. After one year, I found Planet Fitness was still charging me, so I went there and canceled it on 6/28. But the bill came to me again on 7/1! I was surprised! So I called again, and they told me that if the date of cancelation is 5 more days earlier than the next billing day, there is no more charge, or they are going to charge me one more month!!! Nobody told me when I was registering and nobody told me when I was canceling the membership!!! At the same time, the membership has expired on 6/30 but not 7/30!!! read more

Horrible customer service! I have been there for a while now and decided to try the training. While my trainer is great and a lovely person, be careful of the contract. It seems nice that you can sign up for 3 months at a time but if you don't cancel after the 2nd month it will roll over month by month. My trainer never mentioned it and when I called upset because I didn't have the money to pay this they had NO empathy or sympathy and simply quoted the contract. They were complete jerks about it. I take some responsibility in not reading fine print, but you would hope that people would make it clear and be forthright when signing up, or at least give you a heads up when that time comes where you need to make a decision. Also, even though by law they don't have to work with me, they could of at least tried to be a little kinder or worked with me in some way. read more

I'd rather be obese than give any money to this gym. The staff are rude and lazy. They don't know their own gym policies and won't honor trial periods listed online. The air inside this gym feels like a hot stale swamp. I swear I'm going to catch some disease. Everything feels dirty and covered in other people's sweat. My review is similar to Jenny H's review a few reviews earlier than mine. Look carefully at the fine print of the contract that you sign with this gym before you decide to join with them. I also had an issue getting out of my membership after two years and I got the same run around. I went there personally to terminate it and they told me to wait another month. Got billed for the extra month and then they billed me again for the following month. I called their billing department and didn't hear back from them. Great new equipment and ample machines during rush hour. New location offers a much better experience. Pleasant staff and relaxed atmosphere. Weekend hours only till 5pm though. Locker rooms taking forever to be remodeled. 1 water fountain sufficient, could use another but encourages to bring your own. Then in October, they nailed my checking account for a monthly fee. I've called five times, and have been told I would receive a refund, but never did. This gym is very large with a LOT of equipment, so I was impressed. I always had an enjoyable experience going in and working on cardio machines, but I gave this place 3 stars because I did their "7 Day Free Trial Membership." As I made clear I wanted to do the free trial, the woman gave me a tour around the facilities and tried aggressively to get me to sign up for an actual membership. I literally had to say "no" close to 10 times before she finally gave up. It was extremely annoying and sad, so... if you want to do the free 7 day trial... BE PREPARED AND DON'T CAVE!!!!! I lucked out with a fabulous trainer who respects my old body and accommodates my medical condition. She keeps me working out as hard as I can with encouragement, but also knows when to stop. The new location offers way better space, including the locker rooms and parking. I'm happy with the range of equipment. I was pleasantly surprised with this Cardio after hearing negative things about this place. It reminds me of a smaller East Hartford version of Cardio, however it's still decent size. The free weight area honestly is good. It has three free bench and two free squat racks which is better than some of the Cardios in the area. Dumbbells go up to 75 so that may not be enough for a lot of people. The gym was clean. There are better gyms out there for sure but this Cardio is solid. read more

Beware of cancelation policy. I just bought a house over an hour away and the closing is January 14th. I went to the cardio in Vernon on Saturday the 29th to cancel my membership. I was told that in my contract it says you have to pay for the following month. The girl laughed and said you have been a member for 3 years and did not use your membership for 363 days. Her answer was I should have canceled it sooner. Also why will they let you start your membership on line but can't cancel on line. I just signed up for PLANET FITNESS for 15 dollars a month with no contract. read more

I don't understand all the negative reviews about this particular Cardio Express or for any Cardio Express location for that matter. I originally planned to join only the Vernon location for a change of scenery, as I was getting bored and uninspired at my apartment gym. But after exploring several of their other gyms (Wethersfield I, Manchester, East Hartford), I decided it was worth it to maintain my multi-club membership because each location is pretty unique, special and close to home or some point of interest. Also because I really do thrive on a change of scenery :) In any case, the staff is always super friendly, equipment is plentiful and in excellent condition, and the facilities are clean. You get all that for a very reasonable membership fee. read more

No thanks. Management is drama-filled and takes it out on their employees, who in return tell customers about it (or worse- fight in front of customers!) Lockers took foreverrrr to update and they make it super hard to get out of your contract. Very fake friendly, and employees are forced to harass customers to donate to the MS Bike Tour- made me avoid the gym that month. I'd rather pay 20 dollars more to go to Anytime Fitness- they are ACTUALLY 24 hours (doesn't close early on weekends but still profess to be 24 hours like Cardio Express does), and the staff is PROFESSIONAL and does not harass you. Plus, even though smaller, it is less crowded and they have such a large variety of equipment, pieces that Cardio Express doesn't have despite its size! I will never return to this gym, not even worth the petty $10/month. read more

I agree with some of the comments above regarding customer service. Once you sign up they will just quote you the contract even if common sense and and being reasonable should prevail. First they make it a hassle to cancel. You have to come in person to sign a form or if that is not convenient you can mail a certified letter (because that is more convenient). In today's day and age where I can sign up for EFT, cancel my insurance and close on a house all via mail, email and fax it's unbelievable to me that I have to come sign a form in person to cancel a gym membership. Second, you have to give 30 day notice after the current month you are in. So in my case I cancelled in Feb but I had to also pay my March dues. That's fine but in my case on 3/15 they also took out my annual dues. Seriously. I've already given them a signed cancellation form 45 days earlier and they still take out $46 fee for the next years dues? They quoted me the contract that this is their policy. What a rip off. They are penny wise and pound foolish to do this type of thing which will only ensure I am never a customer again. A smart policy would be to let the person leave feeling not ripped off so in the future they might come back. People rejoin gyms all of the time. Let the buyer beware! read more
