We were able to fill out everything online, and Kevin reached out the afternoon before our climbing day to confirm the crag (east facing on Ragged Mountain, so we could be warm!), where we would park/meet, and any pertinent notes. Once there, Kevin had all the gear we needed, packed and ready to go. Harnesses, helmets, ropes, webbing, things I didn't know we needed but he had prepared for safety/security/fun. Then, we had a short approach and voila! A wall with plenty of climbs. Kevin led us up a scramble first to set up our first two top ropes and gave us a chance to rappel back down after we took in the incredible view from the top of Ragged Mountain. We spent the morning climbing a range of 5.6-5.8s, got to say hello to a friendly pup, and learned a lot about crag stewardship in the area. Our trip had a blast, and despite the wasp/bees that we were disturbing, we couldn't have pictured a better day. I'll be making an excuse to visit more often to take advantage of Connecticut's great climbing scene, Kevin's knowledge, and relationship with the local climbing community. Any time I want to talk to them, they respond to me within the day if not sooner. They are very transparent about what they do there. The teachers - amazing. My kids love them. We have been with BAL for a few years now and I could not imagine sending them anywhere else. They are up to date on current practices and are constantly learning more to provide the best for my kids. We toured a couple places in the area and this one was quickly at the top of our list for many reasons. First - the staff. When it comes down to it, you want to make sure your kids are happy, healthy, and safe. The teachers are so warm, kind, and gentle. They were willing to work with our existing schedules while also providing tips. Second - the environment. We loved that the infant room wasn't harshly bright and there wasn't any over stimulating toys. The school focused on a Montessori approach that my oldest is absolutely thriving with. Third - the responsiveness. You're are never left waiting. The teachers and staff are so quick to reply and implement. It's such a wonderful feeling to know they are on top of things. Any questions, whether it's about your child's sleep or you have something related to finance, they make you a top priority.

It's Tuesday, it has yet to be sent. My husband sent an email with how we were treated and concerns. The director called me, I was not on my phone so my husband called her back. She was rude to him and me on the phone. I would never have my daughter watched by her.

The teachers are nice and have a good curriculum, but it doesn't vary from year to year, so if your child goes for multiple years they repeat the same songs/experiments/projects every year. It is a private, not-for-profit school, and that is good and bad. The good thing is their is a volunteer Board that handles the finances, policies, etc for the school. The bad side of that is children with behavioral issues (physically aggressive with others, excessive crying from separation issues) take a large amount of time and attention from the teachers, leaving the rest of the students with less direct teaching and adult interactions. The first year there was a floater teacher/teachers aid that was very helpful in these situations, but that position didn't exist in the 2nd and 3rd year for us. We would have gone elsewhere for the 3rd year but Covid restrictions kept our preferred school from opening. The room has multiple stations that kids can choose to play with items like play doh/floam, a water station, painting, play kitchen, etc, so they choose where they spend time, and then there is something teacher-led for the children to interact with the teacher. It's nice for kids to pick what they do, but there isn't a structure in place to ensure kids participate in the teacher-led portion, and if that is where the true curriculum planned for the day or week happens, it's possible your child is just playing all day. That's fine for part of the time, but we found it happened a lot more frequently than we wanted. We were looking for social interaction as well as teaching kindergarten preparation skills, and we ended up teaching most of the skills at home. There was a change in the Director position during our time there, and we did not feel that the new Director had the same skills or strengths as the previous one, and we did not agree with the handling of classroom issues that indirectly impacted our child. Maybe with time this will improve, but we were often frustrated or disappointed in the processes in place.

We found this out 135 days before camp starts...135!! They do not care about the kids, or the families - or they would work with us. They cash grab and put a financial hurt on hard working families, all while being rude and dismissal of our situation. Disgusted.

Communication across the board is too notch. Throughout the day parents get regular updates via the Brightwheel app, including pictures, meal updates, and potty and/or diaper changing schedules. The app is also used to send centerwide messages from the staff, as well as personal notes to alert us to any issues the children may be having. I could go on forever about my experience and have nothing but positive things to say about FFLL. I highly recommend 'Foundations' to anyone who is in need of childcare and/or preschool.
