THIS BUSINESS IS WHY YOU SHOULD READ THE YELP REVIEWS AHEAD OF TIME! I recently hosted my child's birthday party here. While the frontline staff and facility itself were excellent, serious operational issues and unprofessional ownership make it impossible to recommend booking a private event. The Positives 1. The Facility: The space is bright, colorful, and comfortably accommodated 12 children and 12 adults. There is an excellent selection of ceramics for the kids. 2. The Staff: The two party attendants assigned to our group were fantastic. They kept a wide age range of children thoroughly engaged for 90 minutes and checked in with us regularly. They were a delight. The Negatives 1. Unreliable Communication: The posted business hours appear to be a suggestion. Reaching anyone by phone is incredibly difficult. When the owner, Beth, does answer, she is frequently away from the business and unable to assist. 2. Bizarre Payment Terms & Cash Flow Red Flags: Final balances paid via card must be settled at least four business days prior to the event, or you must pay in cash. When I called two days prior to settle, the owner explicitly complained at length that a card payment would create a cash-flow issue, noting she wouldn't have immediate funds to cover the party's pizzas. Hearing a business owner admit they are five pizzas away from an overdrawn account is a massive red flag. We had already paid a $100 deposit several weeks earlier. 3. Unprofessional Ownership: The owner, Beth, was observed being demeaning and rude to her employees upon our arrival. Whatever the employees are being paid cannot be enough to deal with this crazy person. Furthermore, her communication style during administrative tasks is highly adversarial and rigid. We would have cancelled the event and taken everyone to an arcade for games and pizzas had we not prepaid ahead of time. 4. Absurd "No Confetti" Policy: We brought our own piñata (disclosed in advance, multiple times to Beth). Because it contained 1x1 squares of paper confetti (no glitter), the staff halted the activity mid-stream, stating the owner strictly forbids confetti. The attendant resorted to hand-picking candy out of the piñata piece-by-piece to avoid debris on the floor, completely ruining the momentum of the kids' activity for a standard mess that could be swept up in two minutes. It was like a farmer tossing feed to chickens, one kernel at a time, with kids running around trying to get the single piece of candy being thrown every 15 seconds. 5. Nickel-and-Diming: While soda was provided , water was not automatically served. In 2026 most parents we know aren't giving soda to 3 and 4 year olds. When a parent requested water, I was directed to the owner, Beth, who charged me $2 for a plastic bottle - In the middle of an event we paid several hundred dollars for. Only after I paid and protested did she mention that a tap water carafe was included but had simply not been provided yet. It took everything in my being to not yell at this smooth brained, pedantic dinosaur and ask her why the hell did she think I wanted to buy a bottle of water if I've paid for a party where food and refreshments are supposed to be served. Also, I spoke with Beth twice on the phone and the issue of water being served was covered both times. On the phone she offered sodas and I said can we also have water because the children will be very young. 6. Tip Shakedown: I was not present for this but apparently Beth pulled my wife aside mid-party to request the 18% (mandatory) cash tip. The tip amount and method of it's payment were disclosed to us multiple times ahead of time and we did not have an issue with it. However, we did find it kind of scummy the owner interrupted us to demand the tip mid event. One has to wonder why the owner is collecting the tips and why we wouldn't just be allowed to tip the attendants at the end of the event ourselves? It does make you wonder if the full tip, if any, is actually being paid to the employees who worked your event. Summary: The venue and the frontline employees deserve praise, but the stress of dealing with Beth's operational dysfunction, hostile attitude, and defensive policies ruins the experience. Save yourself the headache and host your event elsewhere. Thankfully, outside of the candy situation, my child's enjoyment of the party was not directly impacted by Beth's behavior. However, as a parent, I found my very limited contact with Beth to be extremely draining and so, so, so effing annoying. I'll be the first to warn all parents in the area to stay away from here for a party. We've previously had 3 birthday parties where we worked with multiple vendors per party and all have been such a pleasure and so easy to work with. Not so with Beth! We booked this event because it sounded so simple in the brochure but we were so wrong and accept it's 100% on us for not checking Yelp before booking. read more

I took my niece to Plasterkraze as part of her birthday celebration and we had a fantastic time! They offer a wide variety of options for both kids and adults. When we arrived, we were pleased to see shelves full of fun plaster pieces to choose from, ranging from Disney characters and cute animals to plants and other creative shapes. It was tough to pick just one! I chose an A, for my nieces room and she did the unicorn. After choosing our favorites, we got to select our paint colors and spend as much time as we wanted making our creations unique. The staff was friendly, and even though we were the only ones there (it was a Friday midday), the atmosphere was relaxed and perfect for some quality bonding time. I also noticed from their flyers that Plasterkraze hosts adult nights with movies as well as parties for kids, which sounds like a great way to switch things up. Whether you're looking for a fun rainy day activity or planning a special event, this place really offers something for everyone. read more

Simply I would say they were unprofessional. The person in charge argued openly with her employees in front of children. They nickel and dime the whole process. From skimping on the activator for the slime to telling kids they couldn't have more pizza when there was clearly more. Would not recommend booking for your party. Beth the owner is not only rude, and disrespectful to customers but also likes to degrade her workers in front of guests during parties. Beth initially quoted me one price over the phone, however when I went to pay she increased the price significantly stating "she didn't remember ever quoting me a lower price." She demanded the gratuity upfront with the payment, and that it be paid in cash. She would not allow the tip to be given to the party helper, leading me to believe that the tip was not in fact for this hard working young lady. The paint, brushes, smocks, and pretty much everything else, were old and in need of changing. Any questions from the kids were answered in a very nasty tone, which I did not appreciate. Owner was very rude and nasty. Not only to customers but her own employees! Infront of kids nonetheless. The price of the party was NOT as advertised. $375 for 12 children turned into $600 out of nowhere. And not to mention she completely NEGLECTED to inform us of a $15 fee for paying with a credit/debit card. And then an 18% gratuity!?!? Gratuity is supposed to be based on their service and the experience...which was horrible. They woulda gotten $20 each if it was up to me. And when I asked for a copy of the receipt with a breakdown on it, she huffed and puffed. After doing the math from the receipt she sent me, she OVERCHARGED by $6. Not usually a big deal but the math was wrong on their end and then decided to nickel and dime us for everything. Claimed they couldn't give a refund for a child who couldn't show up because "we don't do that here. No refunds and no credits. We use the money to buy the supplies ahead of time" (bulls--t). While internet surfing, I found Plasterkraze. I called and reserved a table for our annual "Girls Trip". We are three grown adult African-American women. From the first telephone call, the owner was so friendly. We arrived early and were warmly greeted. There are over 200 ceramic pieces to choose. Wow!, we didn't know where to begin. The price is written on the bottom of each item and it's easy to paint over the writing. We picked out 18 paint colors (6 colors per person). A young lady brought us the paint, a bunch of brushes and cleaning water. My sister painted an intricate plate. My cousin painted a beautiful 2-piece heart shaped jewelry box, and I painted a gorgeous flower vase. Each item was under $30 (glazing included). The glaze really made each item standout, and there are several glaze choices. So beautiful!!! I only reserved two hours, but we stayed FOUR hours. We talked and laughed the entire time. People came, people left. The owner never rushed us to leave. In fact, we had the most wonderful conversation with the owner while waiting for the glaze to dry. The glaze dries quickly and you receive the item completely dried. Our time at Plasterkraze was a relaxing and inexpensive way for our family to bond. Recently had my daughter's 5th birthday party here! It was such a great hit the kids and adults all agree it was awesome! Very organized from start to finish and the ladies in the shop took care of everything from collecting presents, to putting together the cupcakes, and serving the kids food and drink. I'll start off with the only two good things about this experience. The first was that they do strictly go by appointments and not walk ins. The second was they do have a lot of ceramic pieces to choose from. They offer a lot of characters and holiday ceramics and a range of colors. The bad parts of my experience was that the service wasn't the best. The woman who seems to be running the place was rude and obviously had an attitude. I overheard that they were busy due to a party but no need for the rudeness. She straight out addressed an newer employee as "the girl" and not by her name. There's easily about 50 people here, parents and children, and only 4 staff members. I understand that there's a party here and the parents weren't being accommodating to the rules of not touching the walls so ceramics were breaking which naturally caused some more frustration. My niece made comments about how the brushes were worn out and not the best to paint with. Giving the place the benefit of the doubt, maybe it's better to come on a week day when it's not too busy and filled with parties. read more

This place has so much potential to be a great place for a party but the staff is so rude. We had my goddaughters 5th birthday here but never again. If you don't like children don't work for a children's party place. The staff spoke to the kids with out a smile or a pleasant tone. One girl who was handing out the paints just walked to each kid and said " what color you want ". Then played a game with the kids similar to hot potato and spoke in such a monotone voice and never smiled. My goddaughter didn't even feel comfortable sitting with her without her mom sitting there. And I don't blame her. The only staff that was nice and friendly to To the kids was a lady named Sue. All the others should not work there. They include tip into the bill way over what they deserved. I liked how they still have places like this. My child loves to paint so we brought him here. I wish they had a better selection in shapes but all of them are mostly $12. You get to choose up to 6 colors and they give you an apron or an old shirt. I would highly suggest if your little one loves to paint to come here for an hour and create new decor for your house. read more

I absolutely adore this place. It is a ton of fun. I used to go to Plaster Kraze as a kid and have my birthday parties there. I am now in my late twenties and still enjoy Plaster Kraze. They have a great selection of sculptures. They have bookcases full of sculptures ready for you to paint! The last four shelves are all $10 sculptures. The bigger the sculpture the higher the price, but it's prices are very fair. I got a $10 octopus to paint. My fiancé got a $34 sugar skull (it was huge!). I attached a photo of our finished products. You can select the paint colors you want. And the finish you want. You can just have it dried and nothing added to it or you can add sparkles to the drying process to make your artwork really pop! They provide you with everything. The sculpture, paint, paintbrushes, paper towels/napkins, and smocks for kids. It's fun for all ages. It's fun for the whole family and a spontaneous date idea for couples. I love plaster kraze more than anything and I seriously think everyone should come here! read more

As soon as you walk in you are greeted with an older woman with an attitude. My friend was taking her time deciding on what piece she wanted to paint and under her breath she muttered just pick already I have other stuff to do. Meanwhile, we were the only ones in the place. She was on personal calls mostly the entire time. I'm strictly giving this a 2 because half way through a party host came in and she was sweet. She helped us the rest of the time, but this older woman was even nasty and rude to her and at that point made her do everything even when another family walked in. All she did was answer the phone and was rude to the customers on the other end. I wanted to pull this young girl to the side and tell her to quit that bosses like that aren't worth working for. We strictly chose this place over plaster funcraft in Commack because it was closer, but next time I will be taking the extra drive. Honestly, that lady needs to retire. read more

We had a birthday party at this dirty dump for my granddaughter. The hefty workers are extremely rude, loud and bossy to the kids. They handed out what looked like saran wrap for smocks. You couldn't even get them on the kids without ripping it. The kept telling the kids not to touch anything over and over again. They had an aneurysm when we brought some decorations to put up like ballooons. I guess they figured we were going to mess up their filthy walls. Oh and lets not let the kids mix any paint , they can't pour it back in the containers! Don't waste your money on this place. Terrible party experience. My daughter picked this place because we have painted there before and she liked it. Would NEVER recommend for a party. Had small 11 child group and they gave us 3 hostesses, but couldn't manage to provide all of the "included" services that I paid for such as games, music, dancing or karaoke. Pamphlet they mailed said these are included with EVERY package. I paid extra money for their face paint and tattoo "add on." The kids received a very low quality face paint (no detail, sloppy and minimal work on each kid- 2 triangles for cat ears and 3 black whiskers) and then were told they could have either face paint or a tattoo, but not both. The tattoos are the kind you wet from the back and transfer on the skin. Not at all worth the additional money I had to pay. They seemed to be rushing around and most concerned with finishing on time for the next party and never interacted much with or entertained the kids. It was an embarrassingly boring, quiet kid party- sat at a table to paint a craft, sat on floor for face paint, sat at table for pizza, done. Sat, sat, sat. No jumping around or playing- not normal for a group of 7-9 year olds. Pathetic! When I spoke with the owner about it she told me they can only do so much in 90 minutes and that b/c I had the face paint and tattoos (wet on kind mind you) there wasn't time for the games and dancing. Hello! Their package is a 90 minute package and says these are always included- I paid for the tattoo/face paint as an add on- as "in addition to" not in place of the games, etc, so all of it should have been provided or not offered to me in the first place. I told the owner that, plus how much time does it take to do wet on tattoos on a few arms?! She apologized but that was it - no offer to compensate me any way. This pace totally duped me! If you offer it all then provide it all. Don't charge for extras and then tell me it replaced an included service, why would I have to pay extra if it was a swap? And with 3 hostesses for 11 kids ( a small sized group) they really should have managed much more. Don't be fooled like I was- total rip off. Final mention, the owner has a terrible personality for a kids place, more than one parent commented to me on that. She barked at the kids and came across poorly. 2 stars is generous! read more

The idea of this place is great. The lady running it, horrible. After paying 16.95 for each of the ceramics my children had picked she asked them to pick colors. Which they provide in small little cups. They each gave her 4-5. She literally huffed as she walked away saying they could at least share the colors. Then walked by as my four year old daughter was painting and mumbled something to the effect that she didn't follow directions. She is four! It was her first time doing anything like this. She was rude and nasty to people calling on the phone, I know because she speaks so loudly. Lastly my son asked to use the restroom. His sister followed him , I called her she came and sat back down. Well I guess the table next to us had dropped a few drops of silver paint. My daughter had accidentally stepped in them and where she had walked a few little smudges were left on the absolutely filthy floor to begin with. I didn't even realize it had happen until she began pacing back and forth saying this wasn't working for her and the mess was unacceptable. I really wish I would have taken a picture of the already filthy 1980 style floor with a few smudges. You would think that a painting place for children would expect that it's very possible for some paint to end up on the floor. I usually have a lot of fun at Plaster Kraze. My nieces and their friends all love it, so I try to take them whenever possible. However, I went today with my nieces and one of their friends (it's Christmas Break) and it was FREEZING. ABSOLUTELY FREEZING. It was as if the heat was NOT ON AT ALL. I normally run hot, people will laugh bc I can be in a T-Shirt at work perfectly fine and they're all cold. Not today. Today I froze and was absolutely miserable. We asked about the heat the poor girl that looked frozen as well, said there was Nothing she could do about it - she wasn't allowed to touch the thermostat. There was another family there as well with us also complaining. We were there from 4-530 and by the time we left my nose was running and cold, I could barely feel my face, and I definitely could not feel my hands. Messed up some tiny parts in the project I was working on but stopped caring bc I was too cold and wanted to leave. When I went to wash the paint off my hands I had the hot water on boiling just to get feeling back into them. Only reason why I didn't leave earlier was bc I had paid for my work already. I would give it 2 stars but the staff is great and I really do enjoy going. I WILL NOT GO IN THE WINTER ANYMORE THOUGH. I am going to be taking my nieces elsewhere (WHERE THERE IS HEAT!!! Such a First World problem - but when the temperature inside rivals the temperature outside and not in a good way ... ) this week when they have off. I won't go in February either. Please do not work here. To start, I quit after my third day. I did nothing but work hard and kiss the owner's ass only to be met with rudeness. Beth, the owner, is probably one of the most bratty and rude people I have ever met. Bosses can be rude, however the way I was treated was beyond that. During my interview, I already knew she wasn't going to be the nicest person. I figured she may have been having a bad day and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Additionally, I know not every boss is going to be nice and I desperately needed the money. The job was a perfect fit for me as I had been creating art since a very young age and was an AP art student. I love being whimsical and goofy, so hosting children's craft parties sounded like a job I'd excel at. I was told to come in on Saturday (11/14/2020) from 11:30am-2pm. I arrived and apparently she had forgotten which already made me feel unwanted. I then expressed that I prefer to be called Rory, and not my legal name that I was obligated to write on my application, as my name hasn't been legally changed. I have not used my legal name in 5 years and expressed this as well. She ignored my wishes even after introducing myself as Rory to other employees, and even took it upon herself to "correct" them reminding them that my name was my legal name. My days working there were filled with her huffing and puffing, getting mad at me for not knowing information she never told me, and so on. She was not only rude to me, but other employees and even customers. If anyone, even a customer asked a question she would huff and groan or even make a rude remark if it was an employee. My latest shift (11/28/2020) was the final straw. A woman who worked with people with special needs came in with a client. They were painting a Christmas tree and her and the client were choosing colors. I recommended a few colors and got a death glare from Beth, I didn't think anything of it until I was retrieving the paint and she pulled me into the back room. She told me "She's special needs you should only give her like 2 colors so she'll make it look good." This infuriated me. I said "She can make it look good with as many colors as she'd like, it's her decision." and continued retrieving the paints. While they were painting, another pair of customers were getting set up to paint. The customer was confused about the painting process explaining how he thought they had to paint the entire piece white before adding other colors. Beth wasn't understanding and was getting frustrated so I explained to the customer that he was referring to "primer", and that it wasn't needed for the pieces we sell. Beth, now annoyed with me, told the customer she was going to shoot herself as a poorly made joke. While preparing pieces to be taken home, I took initiative and started filling the paint cups we provide for the customers when she started yelling "What are you doing?" at me. I explained to her I wanted to take initiative and she said, "No, I want it done MY WAY." That's a brat if I've ever heard one. Towards the end of my shift she had me on my hands and knees scrubbing the floors with a sponge. I'm a party host, not Cinderella. During this last shift 2 customers approached me, telling me that I am doing a great job and don't deserve to be treated the way she treated me. I was not paid minimum wage, nor did I receive any sort of breaks, being forced to work 5+ straight hours without a chance to rest. I've been paid more at jobs that don't treat me like garbage. On top of that nothing was disinfected EVER, not even at closing, the most cleaning we do is sweeping. If you have someone with a compromised immune system please do not bring them there. Save yourself the trouble. read more

1. As soon as you walk in, you're inhaling strong fumes from the spray they seal the ceramics with - recommendation to have better ventilation. 2. Time limit was an 1 hour to paint, thankfully the place wasn't crowded and I was allowed to paint an additional 45 min (1 hr 45min total). 3. Only one girl was working the store mid afternoon on a Saturday. - hire more people. 4. I purchased 3 pieces (1 medium, 2 small knickknacks), I took 1hr 45 min to paint the 1 medium sculpture, thus I wanted to return the 2 small pieces, the girl called the manager and they would not let me return them. I hadn't let the building and there is no "final sale" or "no return" sign. - put up a sign. 5. Pearl finish changes the appearance of the paint, be mindful of choosing your finish. - warn customer of this; my friends painting was ruined, as the colors were muted and altered. 6. I do have to compliment the girl working by herself, she was a hard worker, polite, and sweet. read more

I had my son's birthday party here today. The woman who greeted us as soon as we got there seemed to have a really bad attitude. We were 15 minutes early to drop off the cake and small decorations. Almost everyone showed up 15/20 minutes late to his party which was totally unavoidable but I took full responsibility for it and was apologetic but she just seemed to be agitated and annoyed. The young girl who was the party host was very sweet. The woman was even really nasty to the party host and talked down to her in front of me. She even left the room for a minute to scream at someone on her cell phone loud enough for everyone to hear. I really hate leaving bad reviews for any business, especially since I, myself, work in customer service, but felt the need to do so when one of the kids at the party ended up crying because she said everyone was pushy and bossy. All the other parents immediately picked up on the woman's behavior and made mention of it too. Up until the actual party- the place was accommodating and even agreed to stay open later for us to be able to have a party at later hours during the weekday (even tho I did pay extra). They were also very good at keeping in touch and following up prior to. But the over all experience was killed by the bad attitude the woman displayed. I liked the whole concept of an arts and crafts party but when you factor in a really poor attitude and $400- I would've much rather have gone elsewhere. I didn't expect a perfect scenario bc I know things never do go as planned, and I do feel bad for my invitees' tardiness- but a bad attitude at a kid's party to me is unacceptable. I gave 2 stars bc the kids still managed to have fun and the place itself is neat and cool. If the place had been a dump and the woman had a great attitude I would probably give a rave review. If I could post zero stars I would. It was the most horrible birthday party experience I've ever experienced. I used to come once a month for painting dates with my daughter for over 2 years. Now I will never return here again. The "manager" is the worst manager I've ever received service from in my entire life. Rude, nasty, full of drama, disrespectful , I could go on for awhile. She is nasty and disrespectful to her employees; calling them names, cursing at them in front of my daughters party. She is a scam artist. I was way overcharged for the party. I asked her to explain it and since I was not the person who reserved the party she did not want to explain it to me. She would not give me a receipt, told me to take a picture of it. She decided to get all crazy and try to kick me out of the store and claimed to be calling the cops all bc I wanted an explanation of the overcharge of the party. My daughters party was not even close to being worth what we paid. They danced to one and a half songs then was rushed to eat pizza then cake and ice cream then leave. The pizza was ok and the ice cream was frost biten and old. Did not receive favors (we brought our own) but did not get money off the party for it or even just give me the favors bc they were included in the package. No one ever explained to us when we walked in before the party started that there's only certain pieces included in the party to be painted. I was charged for all the pieces that apparently were not in the package. The manager is just a nasty person and has a horrible attitude problem. She should not be a manager or not be dealing with customers. She ruined my painting place for my daughter and I date nights and I will NEVER EVER be going back here again. I hope no one ever goes here or has a party here bc you will end up spending $500+ for an hour and a half party. read more
