Fried fish with Mac n cheese and greens
    Myla M.

Been looking for some good soul food since I came to Milwaukee and found some. The fish plate I had was great with the highlight being the fish and the yams. Those fish and yams was perfect, perfectly seasoned and fried and the yams perfect level of sweetness and melt in mouth. They also gave a good side of hot sauce with the fish that was perfect. The mac n cheese could've been more seasoned in my opinion (I just added a lil Tony's and it was perfect) and the greens more tender. But overall a very delicious plate. The service was quick when I went considering they are made to order (this place is to go only). The menu honestly sound so good I wanted everything but of course couldn't order all that so I will have to go back and try their other stuff (turkey necks and gumbo).

Awesome presentation of food. Good and tasty quality eats and treats. Turkey leg is the best around. Catfish seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of crunch! Staff is friendly and I'm happy that they're now calling people to advise when order is ready. Can get busy and run out of the favorites, like the turkey egg rolls but definitely worth the visit!

This place is a little gem that everyone should try! I had the gumbo, it was heavy on the sausage but had a really nice flavor. My son had the turkey leg, it was his first and he almost rejected it when I surprised him with it but he proceeded to eat every bite!

If you like Southern Food, you'll LOVE Plate Pleasures. We ordered off the Specials Menu -Shrimp Po Boy and Soul Chicken Sandwich (fried chicken breast layered with onions, greens, yams and mac n cheese). Incredible Favors! Our sides were cabbage, greens with pork and Mac n cheese. Next time I'll try the entree with the two sides. I did feel like the a la cart Mac n cheese was a bit small for $6.00, however it was good. And, I never order pound cake but Grandma Dorothy knew what she was doing bc it was moist, sweet and delicious. Can't wait to try the other options next time.

I ordered the catfish, mac&cheese and greens.

The catfish was seasoned well and crispy. Love the greens did have pork in them. I was letting the lady know that I found about this place on FB MKE Foodie group and drove across town to try them out. The person behind me said I would not be disappointed, and was correct. I will definitely be back. I do not mind supporting with good food and customer service.

Needless to say, it was crowded and lively, but our table was waiting for us and we were sat immediately. Our server was friendly, attentive, and very helpful with our menu choices, which were limited due to their Madi Gras-only offerings, but also plentiful and varied. My husband decided on the jambalaya, I went with the crawfish étouffée, and we split the roasted Cajun cauliflower as an appetizer. While it's hard for this kind of stew-like, saucy, veggie/sausage/seafood over rice mixtures to present beautifully, everything looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. The jambalaya had a little more of a kick than I prefer, but my husband loved it and my crawfish étouffée had the perfect amount of spice without being spicy. The roasted cauliflower was cooked to perfection and was the perfect way to start the meal. Not pictured is the bananas foster bread pudding that was the perfect way to end it. We both left with extra food to take home and the memory of a wonderful meal and great experience.

Our server was great and the manager came by while we were eating to ask how things were and see if we needed anything. Only thing with server was I did ask 3 times for more water, would have been nice if he just saw and refilled. We started with the hush puppies and meatballs. The hush puppies came with a really interesting sauce. The cheese, flavor and texture were great. The chicken meatballs were good also had a nice sauce. I got the 4pc Pressure Fried Chicken sub collard greens for Mac n cheese to share. They nicely split the meal on two separate plates for us. The fried chicken was really good with a delicious crispy breading. The biscuit and Mac n cheese were alright. The Mac n cheese was nothing special at all. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good, potato skins mixed in. Enjoyed the food and variety of options!

Came on a Monday night with a friend. Food: Really like the menu. Lots of diversity to choose from, and the prices are reasonable. We started with a couple of specialty cocktails. I had the Sazerac, and my friend had the OG Old Fashioned. Both were well made, and there was plenty of alcohol in each. For an appetizer, we got the Frogs on the Mound, which, as you can imagine, is 1/2 lb of frog legs on haystack onion rings. I haven't had frog legs in a while, and I thought these were very good. The breading was light, well seasoned, and not overcooked. The haystack onion rings were just okay. They could have been hotter and maybe seasoned (or just salted) a bit more. For our entrees, I got the Blackened Catfish, and he got the Grouper Tacos. Both of these meals were also very good. The blackened fish was the best part of my meal. It was excellently seasoned, cooked to the right temperature, and moist and flaky. Delicious! The collard greens were good, but would have been better with just a bit more pork. More pork is always better. The rice and beans were good too, but the temperature was less than hot. My friend enjoyed his Grouper Tacos, and the bite he shared with me was very good, except for the green peppers. I much prefer orange or yellow peppers, but I realize that's a personal taste issue. The tacos tasted fresh, the fish was tender, and the portions were good. Service: The place was about a quarter full. Even though we weren't in a hurry, the service got off to a bit of a slow start. After getting waters and menus, it took a while for our server to get back to us. I started to worry that this might be an issue for the rest of the evening, so I made a point of getting their attention. After that, things went smoothly. After ordering appetizers and entrees, the food came out in a timely fashion. All the staff we interacted with were helpful and friendly. Thanks, Sarah 1 and Sarah 2 :) Atmosphere: Besides the separate bar area, the dining room is a big open space with lots of four-top tables spread around. Around the walls there are posters, art pieces, and plenty of Mardi Gras beads. I wasn't sure at the time, but there was something a bit cramped about the interior. After looking at the pictures, I think it might have to do with the low, tiled ceiling. (I think this is the first time I have ever mentioned something about a tiled ceiling.) On this night, it was quiet and easy to have a comfortable conversation. Glad that we finally stopped in for a meal. With the exception of the initial service delay and some small issues with a couple of food items, it was a very good meal. Would definitely want to stop back again to try other parts of the menu.

The waitstaff will walk you through how that works your first time. We started with some of the taste & share plates - showing off WI cheese to the out of towners - and then a few people shared some gnocchi and beef tartare while a couple people got burgers. We had maybe 4 bites leftover, and no room for dessert, it was a personal victory. I'm sad I didn't get photos because I love the feel of each unique area that's here. The restaurant is bigger than you think because it's subdivided into smaller rooms. We had a group of 7 for a work event (which meant I kept my phone put away) and were in a cozy little nook in the back by ourselves, I'd never even noticed this little spot. It's a great environment with a lot of good drink options. I always opt for the Parker rolls which are tasty but again expensive for the amount you get, I typically order the trout (which until coming here I didn't realize was essentially the same as salmon). It's very good and the potato pancake is a nice touch. Over my visits I've also enjoyed trying the short rib gnocchi, butter chicken, and brussels. They also have a small party room which I have attended an event in before which is always a nice touch. It's secluded and of course much quieter than their main dining area which can get pretty loud!

The meal came with a cornbread muffin. Their soft drinks here are canned and with one and tax my bill was $17 and change. The prices here are reasonable. While the vegetables were hot and good tasting the chicken was barely warm. It was a victim of the dreaded non heated serving pan it was in and being kept out on the line too long. That deserves no more than a 3 score from me. The interior was also a little chaotic with a man selling colognes and perfumes inside! I don't believe he was affiliated with Daddy's.....

It's open Tuesday-Saturday for lunch and dinner. Parking is on the street and is free for 2 hours which is plenty of time to dine here. It's nice inside and has a full bar. I ordered the Smokehouse Half Chicken platter for $18. It came with cole slaw, cornbread and one of their side dishes. I chose the Smokehouse Beans and it took about 10 minutes for the meal to arrive. While I waited I checked out the 4 sauces that were on the table and liked the KC mild the best. When the food arrived I noticed the large 1/2 chicken and the sides. The chicken was juicy and delicious with a smokey flavor. Paired with the KC mild sauce, it was yummy (4). Yes, their chicken is very good but it was the side dishes that really impressed me. The beans were rich in flavor and savory. Perfect (5). The cole slaw was creamy and smooth tasting making an excellent palate cleanser (5). The cornbread was soft and warm with that original cornmeal aroma (5). And finally, I ate the 2 pickle slices added on the plate. Fresh tasting with a firm texture and perfect flavor (5). The table service by Maxie was friendly and efficient. I wish I could have had one more meal here to test other menu items before giving this score. My experience has found that many bar b q restaurants prepare very good meats but it's their side dishes that make some of them stand out. The chicken was very good and I would order it again but the side dishes really impressed me. Even the pickles! For those reasons, I give Double B's a 5 score. This is as good as it gets.
