Fried green tomatoes with sauce and greens
Ronald N.

We stopped on Monday around 4:30 and it was already fairly busy but tables available. Nice clean homey feel and nice decorating. We decided to have a cocktail at the bar first, and ordered some specialty ones off the menu from the friendly bartender. After being seated we ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes that came with dipping sauce and some greens with light dressing. It was a sizable serving for two and tasted great. We ordered shrimp and grits; the shrimp were tender and the grits had tomato and seasoning which was very good. Not sure why places have tail-on shrimp in a dish like this as it makes it a bit messy. We also had crispy fried chicken with collard greens and mashed potatoes and gravy; the chicken was hot and crispy, the potatoes were good and the collard greens were ok but a bit too sweet for me. It also came with an excellent biscuit. Our server was friendly and prompt throughout and one of the owners stopped by to say hello and ask after our meals. I'd say a 4.5 overall and a very nice experience. Will definitely come back when in the area.

Happy hour oysters
Michaela R.

A go to spot for soul food and seafood. Happy hour cannot be beat - such great deals including their $2 oysters. Such a good vibe, makes you feel like you teleported to New Orleans! Wait staff is great, as well as their friendly bartenders as you wait for your table.

Cornbread and Whipped Butter
Joe T.

We stopped in for dinner and drinks at the upstairs bar and were immediately greeted with a warm welcome and water by the attentive staff. The happy hour oysters were incredibly fresh, especially with the house-made hot sauce and spicy vinegar. They even brought out a basket of warm cornbread without us asking, and that whipped butter was so good that words can't even explain it. With a consistently solid craft beer selection and 10/10 service, Maxie's remains a go-to spot for a great night out!!

Pecan-Crusted Rushing Waters Trout Filets

This is a fun place to go with a group, we really enjoyed our waitstaff while we celebrated a birthday. The people who ordered the fried chicken LOVED it, I've had the pecan-crusted trout and that was good, but my jambalaya was more tomato-y and less spicy than I personally prefer. I am probably not the normal demo for those tastes though.

Fish Fry

Service is always excellent here. We usually sit at the bar and are always so well tended too. This place gets packed quickly too and if you taste the food you'll understand why. We come for Friday fish fry very frequently and it never disappoints. For the first time we tried the cheese puppies which were delicious. The poblano sauce it came with is what really made the dish.

Very cool vibe with nice decor and tasty Cajun/soul food. Char grilled oysters were gumbo was very tasty and atmosphere and decor was very pleasant. Definitely worth checking out.

I have been hearing about maxies for AGES now and have wanted to go!! Finally went and I'm sad to say I was quite underwhelmed. I will say the free cornbread is amazing though. I got the fried chicken that came with collard greens and i switched something out for cajun waffle fries. The fries were good, crispy and very cajun-y and the collard greens were overall good as well. The issue I had was just with how DRY the chicken was!! I know chicken breast are generally dry but even my other pieces weren't great. And they don't come with a sauce to get it a little less dry. Ended up taking it home to reheat and dip in sauce to avoid how dry it was. I will say that their cocktails are great though! Would come back for happy hour to try their $1 oysters and drinks!!

The food at Maxie's is always good. The service is just as good. This is a restaurant to go with friends and be able to have a great conversation because the music isn't too loud.

Before Yappy Hour even started, we were in seafood heaven--ordering oysters and some late-night bites. Here's what we tried: Aunt Dotty (Duxbury, MA) - petite but full of flavor, crisp brine with buttery sweetness. Bosu (Puget Sound, WA) - plump, picture-perfect, with cucumber and fresh grass notes. Pleasant Cove (Dam River, MA) - clean, briny, silky smooth... my absolute favorite. Madeleine Points (Yarmouth, ME) - bold brine, meaty bite, sweet finish. We couldn't stop there--bring on the rolls! The Connecticut Lobster Roll Sliders were perfectly seasoned and hands down the best lobster roll I've had. We even ordered two! The Green Goddess Shrimp Roll with poached shrimp, cucumber, red onion, arugula, and lemon on a toasted roll was also excellent. Drinks rounded out the night perfectly. I had the BA Strawberry Negroni, while my bestie went classic with the Outlaw Dirty Martini. Our server, Fin, was amazing--friendly, attentive, and made the drinks strong and delicious. The real star? Yappin', Thursday-Saturday from 8:30-10 PM. Late-night favorites like the Lobster Claw Basket and Shrimp Cocktail keep the seafood vibes going. Fresh seafood, great flavors, and unbeatable late-night energy make Outlaw Oyster the perfect spot for a late-night date--or just a fun seafood night. Highly recommend!

That kind of freaked me out though. I don't like cucumber, so i took the cucumber out of the sushi, and i didn't finish an egg roll because it was too chewy (not crunchy at all). That didn't seem to be a problem. I didn't try everything. I liked the noodles I got. The sushi was decent (I had the cooked sushi). They had a nice selection of desserts. My friend said she'll come back with her kids. I don't think I will. I'd rather have everything cooked fresh. The fried things I tried (gyoza and eggrolls) were too chewy, they didn't taste bad, but the texture was off. The exception was the rangoons, they were crispy. The desserts were ok. The best was the prepackaged ice cream. I'm glad i tired l tried it. It looked like the families with kids were really enjoying it. I'm sure, as a kid, I would have too.

For drinks, we decided to get the cranberry kiss. Surprisingly, both of our dishes were pretty filling! The seafood Pappardelle, had lobster, scallops, shrimp, and octopus. It was on the heavier side, but the noodles that they paired with it, was absolutely amazing. The Branzino was nicely grilled, but wasn't dry on the inside.
