Been wanting to come here for a long time. I've driven by it hundreds of times and it was just never the right timing. Glad we were finally able to stop in. Came on a Monday night with a friend. Food: Really like the menu. Lots of diversity to choose from, and the prices are reasonable. We started with a couple of specialty cocktails. I had the Sazerac, and my friend had the OG Old Fashioned. Both were well made, and there was plenty of alcohol in each. For an appetizer, we got the Frogs on the Mound, which, as you can imagine, is 1/2 lb of frog legs on haystack onion rings. I haven't had frog legs in a while, and I thought these were very good. The breading was light, well seasoned, and not overcooked. The haystack onion rings were just okay. They could have been hotter and maybe seasoned (or just salted) a bit more. For our entrees, I got the Blackened Catfish, and he got the Grouper Tacos. Both of these meals were also very good. The blackened fish was the best part of my meal. It was excellently seasoned, cooked to the right temperature, and moist and flaky. Delicious! The collard greens were good, but would have been better with just a bit more pork. More pork is always better. The rice and beans were good too, but the temperature was less than hot. My friend enjoyed his Grouper Tacos, and the bite he shared with me was very good, except for the green peppers. I much prefer orange or yellow peppers, but I realize that's a personal taste issue. The tacos tasted fresh, the fish was tender, and the portions were good. Service: The place was about a quarter full. Even though we weren't in a hurry, the service got off to a bit of a slow start. After getting waters and menus, it took a while for our server to get back to us. I started to worry that this might be an issue for the rest of the evening, so I made a point of getting their attention. After that, things went smoothly. After ordering appetizers and entrees, the food came out in a timely fashion. All the staff we interacted with were helpful and friendly. Thanks, Sarah 1 and Sarah 2 :) Atmosphere: Besides the separate bar area, the dining room is a big open space with lots of four-top tables spread around. Around the walls there are posters, art pieces, and plenty of Mardi Gras beads. I wasn't sure at the time, but there was something a bit cramped about the interior. After looking at the pictures, I think it might have to do with the low, tiled ceiling. (I think this is the first time I have ever mentioned something about a tiled ceiling.) On this night, it was quiet and easy to have a comfortable conversation. Glad that we finally stopped in for a meal. With the exception of the initial service delay and some small issues with a couple of food items, it was a very good meal. The drinks are POURRED. If your a light weight you only need one. Its not New Orleans but a great taste of Cajun mets Midwest. Tries the shrimp poboy, excellent...well seasoned, juicy shrimp on the inside crunchy as it should be on the outside. Fries paired well. The restaurant exterior pays homage to Black historical greats, the inside has a section when you walk in with typical dinning, turn the corner you hit the bar atmosphere that's cozy, and leads towards additional spacious dinning in the rear that has capacity for a dj, dancing, etc...pity no one was on the floor while I was there...I would have joined them after my first drink. How have I never reviewed this place?! The food is always delicious, and the service is always great! Brunch is served seven days a week, and they serve some of the best fried chicken in the city with a Monday AYCE fried chicken special! Some favorite dishes have been Eggs Benedict Trio, Frog Legs, gumbo, jambalaya, fried crawfish tails, and of course, their fried chicken. They also have the best beignets I've had in town! They have live music often, and an AYCE crab legs special occasionally, and they've been a regular annual vendor at Bastille Days. My family and I dined in for a late lunch and there was no wait at all. We were seated in about 5 minutes after they set the table for our group of 8. Our waitress was so gracious and helpful throughout our visit. We ordered everything from alligator bites, gumbo, seafood pasta, fried catfish poboys, and more! Everything came out in a reasonable time! As a Louisianan, I was spectacle to how authentic the food would be, but I was pleasantly surprised! We stopped at Crawdaddy's hungry and needing to kill some time. In spite of it being 2pm , the dining room was half full. One waitress ,Terry, was on her own, but she was a pro. She gave excellent menu advice and insisted that we should have the beignets first. Great tip. They were amazing, and we would have been too full to enjoy them as one should after our meals. First time eating here and I was sorry that I waited so long to try it! It is a beautiful space! There are multiple dining areas, a bar and a patio. Staff were all very friendly and helpful! I ordered a small French onion soup and a French onion dip sandwich with rough cut fries. The soup was a bit thicker than what I have had before, but it was very good. The cheese was melted very nicely over the top and browned up as well. The French onion dip sandwich was incredible. Best one I have ever had! Many times when I have had it at other restaurants, it has been where the bread and/or meat have been on the dry side. Their sandwich the bread was soft and the meat was tender and moist. Excellent! My husband and I ended up here on a random week night because I googled crème brûlée near me and I'm so glad we did!! We sat at the bar just for dessert and cocktails. We were greeted right away by the bartender and put in our order. It came out quickly and was warmed perfectly! 10/10 The bartender overheard us talking about how it was my birthday with another guest at the bar and without saying anything she brought me a birthday dessert plate with a candle and really blew me away with her customer service!! A fun spot from the parking lot murals to ending with the beignets! Everything I've tried here is good. It is important to note that some specials are only available at the bar but that includes the bar tables and we found that even though the bartender was serving the whole area, she still took great care of us at the bar table. I have never had a fish fry quite like theirs. It was good! But it's definitely for the fish lover as the fillets are GIGANITIC so the fish-to-breading ratio sways much more to the fish side than your standard restaurant fish fry. I still need to get back for their fried chicken which I've heard is amazing, so I'm holding my 5th star to update once I try that! read more

Date of visit: 11/29/23 My only experience with Crawdaddy's was an event they did many years ago downtown where you could sample a variety of things from a number of establishments; I recall their white chicken chili being fantastic, so I was excited to try their new location on Greenfield, which wasn't all too far from work. This was my first experience with frog legs and I wouldn't call them my favorite thing on the menu, they weren't bad and I was glad to have had the opportunity to try them, especially being of French heritage myself. My Croque Madame was just okay; nothing amazing but also not terrible, either. I've had better and I have certainly had worse. The star of the show was really the beignets, warm and oh so sugary! Our server, Terri, was friendly and focused. Almost too focused; if you wanted her attention you practically had to throw a plate at her to get her attention! Had a great meal tonight. Our server was attentive and charming. The food was oh so good. We started with the Crawfish Rangoons--WOW! So good with a subtle heat and fantastic dipping sauce. My guy had the Blackened Cod with wild rice. It was absolutely delicious. Seasoned perfectly and moist. I had the fried chicken which comes with mashed potatoes + a tasso gravy (so good you want to drink it) and I subbed out the greens for red beans & rice. Follow-up on last visit. 12:30 on a Thursday. Small crowd. One server, friendly and helpful. We had three seafood tacos with red beans/rice, Gumbo and Jambalaya. With roots in New Orleans, our taste buds may expect too much, however, the heat tended to overpower the flavors on some dishes. Milwaukee deserves to have a couple Cajun/Creole restaurants-- and it does, so each one needs to work hard at representing the food and culture of Louisiana. read more

Since moving here from the South, I've been craving Southern cooking. I was searching for restaurants in the surrounding area, and this popped up, so of course, I had to stop in. My expectations were low since we are in the Midwest, and I've had authentic Southern cooking. Can I say WOW, this was incredible. I started with the crab and corn bisque (I know I should have gotten the gumbo). It was delicious! Perfect amount of crab and creamy soup goodness. I also wanted to try their crawfish Rangoons, which I've never seen before. They were delicious as well. For an entree, I had to try their fried chicken. It's half a bird and fried to perfection. I'm a sucker for some good crispy fried skin, and I would scarf it down more if I didn't eat heavily before on appetizers. The chicken came with a side of potatoes, gravy, and greens. I swapped out the greens for red beans and rice, which were also delicious. I've said delicious multiple times already, but it indeed was. I also got the beignets to go so I could eat them with powdered sugar all over my face in peace. Paired with the raspberry sauce, it was incredible. I'm glad I found a go-to place for some good Southern cooking. read more

Loved our dinner here over the weekend. We stopped by for the happy hour (even on the weekends) from 4-6pm. It's not a great happy hour (BOGO 50%) but it helps when the hurricanes are $10/each. We saw the restaurant filling up so we grabbed a table. Started with the fries gator bites and loved them. Good seasoning and tastes great with or without the hot honey dipping sauce. Ordered the fried chicken and a po boy so we got some bread due to our wait for the chicken (takes about 20 minutes). We didn't mind the wait and our server, Kylie, checked in on us and refilled waters. Fun atmosphere with bourbon street vibes. Reminded us of our fun times in NOLA. The po boy was good but got messy. Be prepared with a napkin. The fried chicken was amazing - perfectly seasoned and crunchy. The gravy was a little chunky but good flavor. I liked the greens more than I thought I would - sweet and savory at the same time. Heard they also have live music so we will have to come back for that sometime. We had raw oysters..oysters rockerfeller..blackened shrimp...mac and cheese..fried chicken,,,blackbed cod and grilled salmon..we also had creme brele for desert. The food was good service was decent. I had to ask for dinner rolls which i would have expected them to be offered with all the dinners we orders. Decided to go here for dinner on a whim looking for something "different" Taking our chances with no reservations on a Sunday evening, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away! The dining area is dimly lit, well spaced out with 4 top tables. We LOVE 4 top tables, even as a party of 2 because we like to get a variety of food! Speaking of the food; we started with the crab dip appetizer. Cheesy, hot, deliciousness! It was served with perfectly toasty bread. We asked for some hot sauce and was so excited to see a great variety. The menu is wonderfully descriptive, not too much of anything which you then know what they have, they do well. I opted for the seafood gumbo. A HUGE bowl of steamy goodness came quickly to our table. The whole snow crab leg was a perfect treat! I also got the maple collard greens, which where just okay. Not much flavor and a little undercooked. Our waitress was polite and prompt, checked on us several times throughout our meal. Noticed soon as arrived they weren't cleaned... they still had the black spots which are either caused by parasites or eggs of marine leeches. Ewww. A classic and a staple in the West Allis area that I'm glad we still have after all these years. Their current location is spacious and comfortable, with ample seating and lovely, festive decorations. Staff is friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I've only eaten here twice, but both times the food has been fantastic--good, flavorful, freshly made, hot. This has been a long time bookmark when they only had the other location before this location opened. Today was let's stop looking at the bookmark and actually get a nice meal. The place is very colorful and modern nice looking that was decorated in a Cajun blues theme with a nice bar next to the dining room with a couple rooms for party's on the side. Mary was my server/bartender because I sat at the bar. I started with a drink called voodoo juice which was very refreshing with 4 rums and 3 different juices which was very refreshing. I told Mary that I was going to do a world tour with appetizers and sides and no single entree so I could sample the menu. I ordered the Cajun Parmesan broiled oysters, jambalaya, red beans and rice with the 5 cheese Mac and cheese. My food came quickly and it looked amazing but Mary realized her mistake when she put my food in front of me and ordered me the entree jambalaya instead of the side and said she would take it back and correct it so I say hold on because if your just going to throw it away I will take it. Mary said yes it would get thrown away but I could keep it and I would only be charged for the side I ordered so her mistake was my fortune because the side order doesn't come with shrimp and I got a piece of cornbread on top also. This was a great jester by the restaurant to correct a mistake and greatly appreciated because I would have paid for it so as not to throw it away and waste it. The Cajun Parmesan broiled oysters were the star of the show and so delicious but it's miss leading because it's actually a raw oyster on the half shell with a melted Parmesan cheese/sauce thing, very good. The red beans and rice was an impulse thing while ordering because I was only going to do three items and I'm glad because they were a great complement to my Cajun meal. The entree jambalaya was really good with a decent amount of gulf shrimp, andouille sausage, Tasso ham and chicken but heavy on the shrimp so no skimping. The 5 cheese Mac and cheese was creamy with shredded cheese on top and very good also with perfectly cooked Al dente noodles, actually nothing was cooled to mush that I had. The cornbread was delicious and cooked perfectly, no fall apart dust cube that you choke on like some places but that moist sticky melt in your mouth style. Overall I'm super ashamed that it took me so long to get the restaurant because it's the only Cajun restaurant in West Allis that I can think of and it was very good. There is nothing better than a good cocktail and a good leisurely meal from a nice restaurant and this place doesn't disappoint, good job. read more

Came there a few weeks ago to try the food out since my husband had been asking for seafood. The place looks nice. Parking lot was tight and busy. Inside was big and not very busy. We got seated right away so that was a good start. Our waitress was nice but was very rushy. The food came out and everything look so pretty and yummy but was not seasoned. The jambalaya was so watery and bland. We added salt but ‍ was ok as it can be. We didn't want to complain and continue to eat politely. Water never got refill. The soda was never refill. She walked by us multiple times to look at our table and left but never refill. She saw us still eating. Didn't ask if we need anything else and just handed us the bill and left us for the rest of the time. We had to ask for boxes and pack our food and left. My Husband was so disappointed. He said he felt pressure to leave and sisnt get to enjoy his meal. He felt we shouldn't leave tip but I insisted we do. We tipped and pay, walked out. We won't be coming back. My party and I had a very pleasant experience at Crawdaddy's. Our server Gina was excellent and the food was delivered quickly. We made a reservation ahead of time, but when we arrived at 5:30 on a Friday night there were plenty of seats available anyway. For drinks, we ordered a Hurricane and a French 75. The Hurricane was sweet and fruity. The French 75 was definitely strong and booze-forward, but that's what this cocktail is, so don't be surprised when you order it. Both were delicious. Warm bread was delivered, which was a nice touch. We also ordered crab beignets as a starter. They were a special that night because Mardi Gras is right around the corner. They were denser than traditional beignets, but delicious nonetheless. For an entrée, I ordered the Cajun alligator mac and cheese. It was packed with flavor. For those who don't know, alligator (in my opinion) tastes like chicken but has the texture of shrimp. There were bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, and arugula mixed in as well. If you're not used to Cajun food, just know that it is very spicy. We had traditional beignets for dessert. They were warm and fluffy and the berry sauce that accompanied it added the perfect touch of tartness. I wasn't blown away by the food, but it really was yummy. If you're looking for a new place to try, I'd give Crawdaddy's a shot. read more

My family & I went out to dinner on Saturday March 19th & made our reservation over the phone. As we were walking to the building you can see the music decor outside the building & also read the culture that aspire the New Orleans style restaurant. They were busy when we walked in & we had to wait 5 minutes or so; once the hostess was available we let her know we had an reservation & was seated right away. Our waiter Dan was very friendly, fun & always came back to check on our table. We looked over the menu & placed our order's which consists of: ox tail soup w/ cornbread(delicious) lobster Mac & cheese w/ bacon (good but need a little more salt, pepper & garlic added) Cajun hamburger w/ sautéed onions & fries (which as okay the burger just need a little more salt/pepper) & bbq platter where u can choose up to 3 meats (I had bbq ribs, grilled chicken & pulled pork w/ potato salad & maple bacon collard greens w/ cornbread). Dan suggested their top two alcoholic drinks which were the hurricane (our fav) & the Vodu I believe which was okay. Family vacation 2021...bringing the California variant of COVID-19 to your city. We visited Crawdaddys in June during our California escape. Crawdaddys is a Cajun, Creole and BBQ restaurant in the Milwaukee area. Being Californian and scared to dine in at restaurants, we got take out from them. We ordered their fried chicken, 5 cheese bacon mac and cheese, and a bbq sampler. The fried chicken and mac and cheese were good. The bbq brisket was crunchy and was more like beef jerky. Service was good. The waitress and manager who spoke to me were nice. Stick with their cajun or creole food and you should have a good meal. read more

One of my all-time favorite spots to eat--any day of the week! The food is consistently top notch, whether it's the catfish, salmon, jambalaya, or--without a doubt--the chicken, which is hands-down the best around. Fridays are my favorite time to go. The vibe is incredible, with a warm, welcoming crowd that feels more like family. It's the kind of place where everybody knows everybody.
