Got my haircut by David as a walk in and I'm very satisfied and will definitely be coming back. The shop was BUSY on a weekday evening (great sign) yet I was greeted immediately and promised someone would be with me shortly. They weren't lying, I was in a chair in less than 5 minutes. I was offered water or a drink as well. David really listened to what I wanted and offered beard service, which I normally don't ever do but gave it a go this time around. I'm definitely happy with how this turned out for my first time. I don't live in the neighborhood but I will definitely make the journey down Ashland again. I got a haircut today 4/12/21 at 12:30 by a guy named Patrick. Over the phone he was rude when he asked me what type of haircut I wanted and I told him a regular men's. He seemed really irritated by that and angrily corrected me saying "I said what TYPE". I get that I didn't answer his question, but not everyone knows all the lingo that goes into being a barber- so I clarified and told him nothing fancy just a regular cut. After that- I arranged to meet him at 12:30. After waving me in from the back of the room I sat down at his chair. He then left the building for a few minutes without saying anything first. Honestly, All of that is small stuff and I would never even mention it, but then he gave me the worst hair cut of my entire life by a long shot. When he came back in- he asked me what I wanted and I showed him the three photos I attached. He took one glance and said he got it.I didn't think he paid much attention so I made it clear that, if he was unsure, or needed to look again, that I would be happy to pull my phone back out. Before we started he asked to look one more time and then said he got it. Patrick then buzzed all my hair off. I cant tell you how awful it was to think I was going to get a decent haircut before I see my girlfriend for the first time in literally 6 months to only have Patrick start buzzing all my hair off from front to back. The way he buzzed it off hurt too, he was really careless and hurried in buzzing it off. Once I told him how upset I was, and how my picture in no way looked like the buzz cut he was giving me, he apologized and said that I wouldn't have to pay. He was so quick to offer to not charge me that I get the feeling he knew he was messing me up and just hoped I wouldnt say anything so it would be a quick and easy job. This really sucked for me, I feel terrible about how I look and cant believe PlatinumFades has a barber working for them that would do this to a customer. I thought this was a good place since Cloud fixed me up great last time and now I don't every want to come back here. Watch out for who you get an appointment with . Patrick should be fired and I cant believe he has a license of any kind. read more

Been coming to this shop for years even prior to them opening this Pilsen location. Never been disappointed even when I haven't had an appointment and went with a barber other then my regular. Yeah the wait times can be long on weekends but it's to be expected with a shop of this quality and talented barbers. Like a great restaurant it helps if you have a reservation otherwise you may have to wait. Now I bring my boys (2&5) and the guys are patient and work with them not sitting still even to the point of putting cartoons on 1 of the 6 flatscreen TVs they have for them. And if it's super busy I've seen the owner order pizza for the customers to thank them for their time and business. Definitely a great addition to the small business community of Pilsen and Chicago as a whole. read more

Been getting my fade here for a couple years now. Ask for Cano, he is by far the best barber I've ever had. Lines you up very nicely. Gives good suggestions, is super friendly. So why not 5 stars? Because the environment/ambiance is very unprofessional. You'll have people in the back smoking/drinking, including the barbers. Random people walk in and out of the shop. Super loud music playing. It's an environment that I have no problems handling as I'm used to it at home, but I have a few friends who were rubbed the wrong way because of it. The guys are nice and are very good at what they do (all the barbers seem to know what they're doing), but just gotta tidy up a bit when it comes to professionalism. I'll still continue to go here as long as I live in the area. read more

They do give great haircuts and the place is clean. The prices are on the high side, but reasonable given the quality. The thing that really kills this place is how unprofessional they are. You can't schedule a haircut at a certain time and then make the customer wait an hour. A lot of the guys in here are of the mentality that everything's cool, but when you're on a schedule, it's not all cool. So you are left with two options, either organize your entire life around a hair cut and drop out of society (which it seems like a good number of people there do) or be forced to go elsewhere if you want to continue being a functioning member of society with appointments to keep. read more

I definitely recommend booking an appt with him. As he cut my hair, he kept good conversation going (he's quite the funny guy) before you know it, he was done with my cut. Back of my neck and my temple is all irritated and cut up. The fade itself looks good but not sure the kid knew what to do with scissors. Mainly though, my skin will likely take a few days to heal fully. Poor equipment and insufficiently trained barber. I blame the business, not the kid, for lack of training and equipment. I do appreciate that the kid cutting my hair was actually focused and trying unlike many of the other experienced barbers having drinks or texting away for a few minutes at a time while a client is seated and in the middle of a cut. Even if they paid me $15 per haircut, I wouldn't be back. Not worth the skin irritation. read more

This dude messed up my hair so bad. He meesed up the top and bottom of my beard, couldnt line up anything to match. i told him I want to leave my sideburns thick, he messes that up too, cuts them thinner and one of them is jagged looks like someone hit it with a lawn mower. I waited over 3 hours for a haircut. They have more barbers than customers. Don't get me wrong they're pretty good. I walk in and sign in. There's a thing posted saying walk-ins only. No appointments. So I'm like cool there's like 4 people in front of me. But nope by the time it's my turn a guy walk ins and gets taken care of right away. I tell the barber I was waiting for him so I had let another guy go in front of me. He says he's booked all day. Which makes no sense when they have a sign posted saying walk-ins only. Also the wait was over 3 hours because they sit there on their phones the whole time. I watched one guy shave a kids head and took him over an hour. So unprofessional. I won't be returning. I have been going here for 3 years now and have no reason to stop going back. Nice young atmosphere with barbers that have talent. Any man, no matter of the background, will find a barber that will give you the cut that you want and affordable. If you do not know what you want, they do have a picture menu on the wall. Unfortunately, some barbers are too good that they will not take walk ins. But once you get your cut by them, you will understand why and will ensure to schedule ahead of time to suppress this detail. read more
