Plato's Closet was a terrible experience. The teenage staff acted like they were too good to be there, barely said a word, and gave judgmental looks the entire time. They talked to each other more than they acknowledged customers and made it feel like I was bothering them just by walking in. It's one thing to be selective with clothes, but the attitude was unnecessary. If you don't want to deal with people, don't work in customer service. Definitely not coming back. read more

I really liked the selection of items at this location however the staff didn't seem to friendly. I asked for a room to try some clothes on multiple times and the girls standing around ignored me. I was finally able to try my items on when someone stepped out of a dressing room and kept the door open for me. When I did check out I said hi how're you! And the girl rolled her eyes and gave me my total without looking up. After I finished paying she sighed and said okay bye and started to walk away. I asked if they had any bags and she said they're a bag less store (totally fine btw I love that) but I had walked over there so I wish there were signs around promoting that or had the option to buy one since I'd be walking around with all the staff I bought in my arms. It really depends on who's working on how your visit is going to go! I'm a Plato's girl. I love buying and selling there. For selling it's really unpredictable on what they buy person to person. For instance a month ago when I brought in a basket to sell. They took quite a bit and I had a good payout. It was a younger girl. Then a few weeks ago I brought in more. It was an older lady and didn't even look at half the stuff. I was looking the stuff nearby and so I saw when she was looking through my by. Girl literally skipped a brand new princess Polly dress lmao. She brought three things, and only brought half of a set I had. Like it was a top, shorts and hoodie. It was all matching! ‍ so now I know never go when the old lady is working. For buying: prices are good and they have lots of stuff but you have to be careful cuz a lot of stuff has wear and is kinda gross. read more

This happened last weekend. I had some decent items in my tote bag - Lulu, gymshark, adidas, and some tie dye pants among a few other things. They wanted a measly $14 dollars for two items. One of those items (a Lululemon align tank!) is very popular and could easily sell for $30 plus at Plato's. And I believe it was only because it was on top and they probably decided not to look at anything else. I also l brought a backpack, a purse and a gym bag and I was told "backpacks don't sell here".... I see those items there all the time. And I frequent this place at least every other week. Figured with back to school coming up those would easily sell! I was also told there was stains... I can guarantee that my items had barely any stains, if any... but yet I see stuff on the rack that have holes (not the jeans that are meant to have holes, either) and stains all the time. Just saw a purple workout tank with black marks all over it... Most of your employees are also incredibly snobby and rude. I've seen many other reviews saying the same exact thing. I haven't used your kiosk system yet; and the girl with red curly hair and a Taylor Swift shirt was so snotty to me. She snapped "put your id here", but that was not helpful at all, I still wasn't sure how to. I asked her to help me and she rolled her eyes at me and walked away. There's a couple of your girls that are actually very sweet and helpful but most of them are not. I've seen reviews, and heard for myself where they blatantly negatively talk about customers WITHIN EARSHOT. Unacceptable. You guys definitely need to do some sensitivity training or hire all new staff. These teenage girls are not ready for the real world of work if they are going to treat other people like I've heard and seen. In times like this you guys cannot treat people this way. I've had luck selling here before - once I made $58 dollars. Another time I made another decent amount. But something must have changed since. I've been in here twice and both times have experienced extremely rude employees. The clothes I took in were not even looked through at all with American Eagle, Nike, Hollister, Calvin Klein and more name brands (some still with tags on since they were bought late last year). And they tried to tell me everything was out of date. The prices on name brand clothes is alluring but it's honestly very unpleasant to shop or try to sell stuff here. read more

When I was here I was greeted with great service and found many nice items. It is a pretty small and cramped store but still very nice. I also don't like that we aren't given bags to put our stuff in an can't purchase brand new reusable ones like other thrift/second hand store. It's hard when you buy a bunch of clothes and have to carry them out to your car trying not to drop them. Next time I will definitely bring my own bag! read more

I went to sell my clothes yesterday and the whole bottom of my basket was untouched. They took 2 things out of like 20 for $7. I bought most of it there in the last couple weeks. They said it was out of style or had stains n pilling when I didn't even wear any of it and wanted to take it back to see how much I'd get. Don't sell ur clothes waste of time. Took 25 minutes to not even look through half of it. I love buying from them but selling to them ruined the whole mood of going there now. read more

Love this store. Reasonably priced and if you sign up for their texts, you can get coupons and insight into when they have there $5 bag deals. Any clearance items you can fit into the bag and it's only $5. It's a steal! I managed to fit a pair of pants, a sweatshirt, a shirt, and three tank tops into the bag. Woot! Also found a pair of jeans separately that fit me like a glove for only $15. Will definitely keep shopping here. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Every time I take clothes here they barely take anything. The clothes I attempt to take here are all excellent conditio, name brand & barely worn. They have some of the rudest people working here. My daughter brought in clothes to sell them. They didn't tell her that she had to be back by a certain time. She did some shopping and came back 15 minutes before close and when she walked in the door, the girl said, "Just so you know, we close in 15 minutes." My daughter told her she was just there to pick up her stuff. She was told rudely that she was supposed to be there before this. She gave my daughter the money, but didn't give her the clothes they didn't buy or our bin back. My daughter was so concerned that she was "keeping" them so she didn't say anything. I don't get to Appleton very often otherwise I would have went in and asked for it back. My daughter saw a few pair of shorts that they posted on Facebook and saw that they were open until 9:00 so she went up to see if they were still there. She got there at 8:24 (the website and door say they close at 9:00), She walked in the same girl told her they were closing in 6 minutes. My daughter said, " Your website and door say 9:00, sorry." She asked for the shorts and was afraid to ask to try them on. She checked out and left. She came home saying that she will never go there again since they have the rudest people working there. She really likes the clothes and prices, but employees really make a difference!!! read more

This is an amazing consignment store! If you want to stay in style for a decent price! This is the place to go, I even saw some Lululemon. It wasn't in my size unfortunately, but I saw some great brands also in ther and found some good items. The prices are decent. The main thing to remember is it's consignment, but name brand and in style. read more

I did not sell anything here but I do love shopping here. The have a vast selection of options that are lightly used. I find the prices to be fair for most items and the wear to be really light compared to other locations. I really like that mostly name brand items are sold here so I can still be stylish but not spend my life away. I will be back. read more

DO NOT GO HERE to get cash for your clothes!!!! My sister and I were told it'll be about an hour and a half wait so we drop off our stuff and we head out. We come back an hour and a half later to them taking four items for less than $12 and nothing for my sister's items. They DIDN'T even go through our stuff. They ripped the bags to make it seem like they went through it, but it wasn't touched. How do I know? Cause our clothes were still nicely folded!! Do not tell your customers you went through their stuff and it wasn't what you needed for your store when you didn't even go through it. I'm not expecting all my clothes to be touched, but at least say you didn't need to go through both bags.. Blah blah blah! Horrible business!!! I'm better off selling it on FB, Craigslist, or a garage sale. read more

I love Plato's Closets, but this location is AWFUL, as a very young adult I would usually love and enjoy shopping here. I have never had a good experience here, at the check out I was reminded very rudely that my shoes would not be refundable and I should double check if they acually fit...what the hell? The staff did nothing nice, no simple Hello or Have a good day, just a very rude shoulder rub when they walked past me. Also, the cloths were labeled "small, medum,large" but when u went to look in your size, you would find all sizes and any type of clothing almost thrown around. Every time I try to sell things, they refuse to buy anything. I can have items that are brand new/never worn with tags, things that are like new and things that I know would sell. Non smoking home, lint roll everything prior to bringing in. Instead they fill the store with raggedy old clothes, things full of stains and things with holes/rips/major pilling. Tons of crop tops that look like they're from the 70's (as in they're so grossly over worn and brown hued). Let's not forget the things that are almost full price so you may as well go get it brand new. It's consistently the same thing and while discussing with many others, they have the same viewpoints. I don't know what their thought process is but I would rather pay full price for clothing considering you're basically doing just that for garbage that they somehow think is passable. For a long time I've tried to say "it's just Plato's" but I felt frustrated enough this round that I figured it deserves an honest review. Do better. read more

BEWARE of this place. I brought in a few pieces to sell since it seemed quick and easy based off the website. I walk in, no greeting, the girl at the checkout desk tells me to fill out a form and that it will be three hours (saying all this without making any eye contact) when I can come back and collect what they didn't take and the money for what they chose.. The website says it takes 30 min so when I asked her why it would take so long she says they're busy - ok that's fine so I leave and because I couldn't make it in again that day I went the next morning.. Same girl, she hands me the bag of clothes (still not eye contact) they didn't take and store credit for what they did take-- no where did it say nor did she say that if I came in the next day that they would give me store credit because they didn't abide by there 30 min promise and took much longer and I have other things to do than wait 3 hours for her to sift through clothes- so I told her, never mind I'll take back all the clothes.. She said nope can't give me my clothes back because they put it on the floor. so you have time to tag and put clothes on the flower but didn't have time to go through the clothes I brought in in 30 min? Oh and they took 6 articles of clothing that were unworn and gave me $13 store credit (about $2 a piece for things that they sell for 10x). Do yourself a favor and do not go here, support a local consignment shop because they would be grateful for the business rather than go here and them make you feel like they're doing you a favor. read more

I generally don't go to Plato's Closet--I've had bad experiences with other locations in the past and their clothes are sometimes outrageously priced ($35 for an off-brand jacket? Yeahhh, I'll pass). However, I stopped in here the other day because I've been going through my dresser and closet to weed out clothes I don't wear anymore and I'd come up with a decent amount of dressier pants and skirts. Nothing *super* fancy, but definitely business casual. The first time I went into the store, I was informed that they were only buying clothes that day for store credit; this varies day by day. Ok, no problem. I called before going over the next time and was informed that for the time being they were buying for cash but that could change without notice. I rolled my eyes as I hung up the phone but then hurried over to quick try to sell my clothes for cash rather than store credit. Just as with the previous visit to this store, I waited at the counter for quite sometime while the workers chatted with each other and ignored me and another customer waiting. (Is this a Plato's Closet thing? The employees at the Green Bay location do the same thing, ew) Finally one of the employees made her way over and I waited to have my clothes assessed. The final verdict? No, they didn't want my clothes, not because they were in poor condition or not a good brand, but rather because they were too dressy and "mature" for their store. Never mind that some of the items I'd had since my very early twenties, part of their age demographic...apparently teens and young adults don't need any slacks or dressier skirts for, oh, job interviews, work, or anything else semi-professional. Very disgusted and disappointed in this location I came in with a basket full of un worn not used name brand clothing and shoes They made me wait an hour and a half which was a total waste of time on my part then when I came back in and they offered four freaking dollars for a pair of un worn converse then they want to have the nerve to tell me "make sure next time when you come in to sell wash your clothes" when the clothes were brand new not worn and clean they just didn't want to take my clothing I've been to this location more than four times and it's been the same story when they don't want to dish out the money to take clothing and meanwhile there's clothing pieces in the store that date back to 2005 but they don't want to take a Nike hoodie very disappointed in this location would not recommend. read more

I love their selection of clothing! I can always find items I love. They have a nice large rack of buckle denim which saves me tons of money since I no longer have to shop the full prices at buckle yet I get the styles I love. I highly enjoy shopping here. read more

I've sold with Plato for years but today was the worst experience. I was told cash when I dropped my clothes off, when I arrived to pick them up, they INSTEAD gave me store credit. Also had already put the clothes out in the store before letting me look. It also took them forever to find my receipt, and not to mention the girls working were HORRIBLE in customer service. I wanted to bring in clothes to see if they would buy any. I looked at the website and the information was very vag, so I decided to call to get some more info. The lady I spoke to on the phone was very nice, friendly and gave me some information but didn't advise me of some important details. I got to the store 15 mins later and the person I spoke with was very rude and short with me. I brought the items in a big bag that you would get from a store. The lady told me for future it has to be in a basket or storage bin. Well the when I spoke with the person on the phone never told me this info. Also the lady on the phone said the clothes would take 30 mins to go over but when I got to the store it was going to be 3 hrs. I would not recommend this place for shopping or selling items because they can't seem to get their info right and the lady at the store we very rude. read more
