I've visited Plato's closet for years, and always knew selling clothes would mean the cash exchange would be low which is fine. It's the standard that I understand. When I was notified my order was ready, the employee there was extremely complacent and not friendly. She questioned if I was actually notified that they were ready for me, I told her I received a text, spelled my first and last name out per her request, and she asked me if I was sure on how to spell my last name. At that point, I was frustrated with the interaction. I'm used to my last name being misspelled - it's completely understandable it happens all the time! I've never had someone ask me if I spelled my last name right, literally had to confirm that was the question and was met with attitude. She asked me to spell it again, turns out my last name was entered waaay incorrectly. Somehow my last name was spelled with an r, h, p? That was a new one. I understand what it's like to misspell someone's name in customer service, I did work at St. Luke's and checked patients in. If I misspelled someone's last name, I would verify and spell it back to them to double check. The issue isn't making a mistake because that's something we all do and I have immense patience for that (I make them all the time), what I don't have patience for is rude customer service. The bar for customer service at Plato's closet has always been low, and I just brushed it off as unexperienced and unenthusiastic staff. There was a lot of selection, and the prices were fair but SO many items I reached for had noticeable stains. This has never been an issue at another trendy thrift store in the area that I frequent. I know the clothes are screened and purchased for resale, and I was blown away so many items with obvious stain/damage met their standard. I brought in a stack of clothes that were new, trendy, clean, and stain-free. Everything was neatly folded. As I looked around the store, I noticed a lot of the Lululemon and Gymshark pieces on the racks were heavily worn and even peeling, though the prices weren't terrible. When they finished going through my items, they told me they were only taking five pieces. I was honestly shocked -- especially because it didn't look like they went through the full stack. Everything was still folded exactly how I had it, and it seemed like they only selected items from the top. The five items they chose were two Lululemon sports bras, one Skims long sleeve top, and a pair of Skims leggings -- and they offered me $12 total. That's not even $5 per piece. Updated: I used to love shopping here, but the store was a complete disaster finding anything and it reeks of strong perfume/air refresher in the vents. Not sure what it is. Very difficult to sort through the clothes without it being totally smooshed in every section it seemed. Very disorganized. The employees, from what I could see, seemed to be very attentive to themselves standing on their cell phones than helping customers, including myself! When I did find an employee I wasn't sure she even worked there with how she dressed in inappropriate clothing. I'm not sure what happened to this thrift store, but it was very overwhelming in just the short amount of time I was there and I hope it turns around. Edit - I saw another review on here stating there's a younger female that appears Asian that gives a major attitude and the other having blonde highlights that just stares and whispers. I want to agree that I had the exact encounter with them as well and noticed I was being stared down for no apparent reason. What is up with this store? They tried to give me $4 for a new never worn leather jacket and $3-$4. for hollister and ambercrombie shirts. and tried $9 for My mint Rock Revival jeans that I paid $175 for. there rude and short with you and no personalities !!! never will I go back!!! read more

I usually enjoy going to Plato's but the times I have gone horrible customer service. There's these main girls that are always there working and always give the meanest looks to everyone. They act like people are doing something to them and that there not getting payed to do there job. I always have to ask them how there doing and they just reply seriously and give the rudest look. Even if your being nice. Those girls need to get fired or checked by management. Also your better off donating your clothes. They usually give $2 to 3$ dollars for good jeans and good shirts. They take forever on top of that and are rude when you ask to check what clothes there buying. (The two girls that are mainly the rude ones is a new one with a hat And looks Asian kinda, and the other girl has like high lights and white, always in the side/cashier spot. Employees are extremely rude and judgmental. Got a text that my clothes were done being checked and so I went to the counter, where the employee looked at me, looked away, and proceeded to continue talking to another employee. This continued for about a minute before she decided to actually help me. They bought almost nothing, and the clothes in my box were still folded and organized exactly as I had put them in there. God knows what they were doing with my box for two hours. There were items missing from my box that hadn't been bought too. Had to go back in and ask for my stuff that they'd apparently decided to keep without buying from me. Other peoples stuff left in my box too... literally go anywhere other than here. read more

Plato's closet offers trendy, gently used clothing for "reasonable" prices, depending on your version of resonance. They have a lot of small and medium clothing with very limited bigger sized clothing for women. My husband found several potential clothes, the men's section seems to be well-stocked in a variety of sizes. However, he grabbed things to try on and saw the line wrapping around the store to check out, and we put things back and left. Three employees, 2 going through "buy" stuff turned in for trade in or cash, and one check stand open. One slow check stand, on a Friday night. Over 10 people waiting. We won't be frequenting this location, but I do like the concept. Poorly stocked bigger sizes, under staffed. read more

This place is a joke. I brought two huge bags full of all designer clothes. Most not worn even with tags on. They bought a couple of the crappiest stuff I brought and didn't even go through one of the bags. Lol. I glanced around the store and it's all items from target and Sears. 90% teen / college clothing - they pay a good for Abercrombie but anything else i.e. J Crew, BCBG, French Connection they give you an awful deal ($4 for BCBG heels that were used 1-2x). Years ago they used to pay 1/2 of the selling price, but an associate told me recently that they pay 1/3 of the selling price. I have also experienced an associate say to pay less for the Armani pants because she wanted them, without knowing I was listening; they offered me $3. I guess I have outgrown this store. read more

If you're looking to get a little extra cash for clothes that you are already getting rid of, see what you are able to get for them here! How much money you get back for your clothes definitely depends on how much wear your clothes have, if they align with the style that Plato's is wanting to curate for the coming season, and the brand of your clothes. I've come here and been given anywhere from $3 to $80 for my clothes, depending on how much and what I am getting rid of. With the clothes that they do not take, they offer them back to you, and if you don't want them back then Plato's donates them. I usually take them back and then proceed to another consignment store to see if anyone else will take the leftovers (which they usually will) and then after that, I donate what's left over. As far as coming here as a customer, I've found a few cute pieces here and there. But as with any thrift/second-hand shopping experience, you must be prepared to come here and exercise patience and go on a treasure hunt for that perfect find. Today, as I was looking at pants, an associate from the back counter made her way across the store to confront me about my mask (it had briefly slipped right under my nose). Stopped by this store while visiting Idaho, I was surprised to see only a couple stars! I really enjoyed this store - it's a lot bigger than the one in my hometown. I didn't have a great experience here. I took in about 30 pair of expensive jeans and they only took about 8 pair of them. The eight pair that they took were high-end jeans (brands like like Seven, Paige, etc.) and they were barely used. All they gave me for them was $45. Plus, you have to drop off your clothes, then return a few hours later (has to be the same day you dropped them off) to pick up your cash, which is very inconvenient if you don't live nearby. I had two bad experiences in a row here about 4 months ago. I decided to give it one last shot on Labor Day. I don't know what's in these young girls Dutch Bro's who work here that makes them so grumpy and snobby but it's become commonplace. The girls behind the desk don't care about you, your time, or the value of your items. They all seem incredibly miserable working here and want everyone to know it. They will sit and talk amongst themselves while your stuff sits on a shelf for about 40 minutes and then try to rip you off. They don't bother to explain why they only offer $6 total for 3 valuable, well kept items which are only a few months old. Nor do they care when you leave upset... which I do EVERY time I leave here. The girls are some of the rudest I've come across in this city. Funny- I took my items down the street to Runway Fashion Exchange and they gave me $40 for almost all my items the Plato's closet girls turned away. Honestly- if you aren't a 00 teenybopper who only wears "PINK" / Forever21 and posting on Tumblr the Plato's closet employees will probably snub you. Maybe I'm just accustomed to CrossRoads Trading Company and locally-owned spots, but I wasn't impressed with Plato's Closet. Summary: store is meant for tweens and early 20's who want cheap (quality) and inexpensively priced clothing. In-Depth: The consignment: This part is definitely easy; fill out a form, drop off your clothes, check back in the guesstimated time. I wish they would let you know when they're done, like other places, so that I wasn't wandering the store aimlessly. The store is HUGE: I mean, this is the biggest consignment clothing store I've ever been in (and I'm from the SF Bay Area.) Unfortunately, there wasn't much selection and because there were racks and racks of the exact same stuff. I felt like the Plato's Closet buyers needed to be more experienced or better trained because I felt lost in a sea of "blah." There wasn't one single item I pulled off a rack that I thought, "oooh, that's neat" or different or whatever. Brands: despite what the website claims, there are a lot of cheap name brands: Target, Forever 21, Wet Seal, BB Dakota, JC Penny!? WTF? I went there looking for nice brands like BGBC, Free People, Guess, True Religion, Banana Republic, Theory, Betsy Johnson, American Apparel... stuff like that. I would have settled for some Macy's brands, but didn't see those either. Trend-Factor: their website lists the following as trendy right now: Cross-shoulder bags, Rompers, boyfriend shorts (jean), chambray, and ghillie tie shoes. I saw 2 or 3 cross-shoulder bags, jean shorts, light colored bauble jewelery (that was new not used) and none of the other things listed. The shoes tended towards vintage or just kind of old. Sooooo, this store either isn't getting this stuff in from sellers or the buyers aren't buying it. The prices are CHEAP - (makes sense considering the brands). I bought Ann Taylor and Forever 21 leggings for $3 each. I left happy having spent hardly more than I spend on my daily Starbucks. Customer Service: These ladies were very attentive and the store was very very clean. There were no clothes on the floor, there was never more than a few minute wait for a fitting room, and check-out was pretty fast. Selling: I checked out their website before going in and noted that they're looking for one-of-a-kind items and I ONLY brought high-quality and unique items. What did they buy, a Forever 21 dress I was going to donate because it was practically see through and I couldn't wear it. They did not purchase: a 3 y/o pair of Citizens, a pair of newer Lucky jeans, or a 1 year old Rock & Republic t-shirt, and a number of other things that are in fashion and name brand. They said the items were "too old." I don't take it personally, I didn't want them after all, but when I saw aisles of crap clothing lacking any originality I thought it was their loss for not buying more of my stuff. Check out LUX downtown and Back on the Rack if you're looking for higher quality and more unique pieces. If you're looking to fit in and buy the same ol' same ol' Plato's Closet is great! read more

I'm not very picky with clothing but hate paying 40-50$ for on brand jeans, so when I come here it's a refreshing sight to be able to buy them for half the price and often time way less. Ive been to Plato's closet in Washington state a few times and love it! I don't shop often, but when I do, I buy several items. I was not greeted by the staff, nor asked if they could hold my items when I had several to carry. I understand having different procedures then other chain stores, but this store is downright cold and unwelcoming. The coupon Id saved up over 2 years or shopping there, (spend 200$ get 20% off) , was not honored this visit, but put into their computer system thst my "next" visit would receive the 20% off. However, to my dismay, they gave me 30 days to use it!! Not impressed at all. read more

I typically do not post on yelp, but I wanted to warn people to steer clear of this store. I have only been in a handful of times, but this last time was the last straw. The first time I took some really nice men's clothing (current, name brand and like new) to sell to them, and was shocked at what they bought vs. what they didn't. Like the first reviewer stated, they buy crap over quality and there is no rhyme or reason to what they refuse. Today I took in a good quantity of quality, name brand clothing again. Perry Ellis, Nautica, Gap, Old Navy, North Face, Nike, etc... All brands that MANY young men wear. These clothes were mostly like new. I turned in the bags and was told it would be about an hour. I took some time to look over their current men's clothing selection, and it was about the grossest I'd seen anywhere. WalMart brands, worn out, ugly polo's and outdated sweaters, very little in the way of good brands or good quality, and very little in the way of selection. I thought for sure the stuff I brought would make a great addition to the store. When my hour was up I walked up to the register only to be handed EVERYTHING I brought in back by a snotty, young girl who said "Ummmm, yeah.... so you had some great brands but these clothes were all too dressy or outdated! We can't buy anything!". You might also like to know that the store is very difficult to get to - in a very congested shopping area, and no-where near my home. So it was a huge wasted trip for me. NOTHING I would want to buy, and they obviously weren't buying quality goods. So, if you have some worn-out, WalMart clothes you want to sell, take them in! God knows they aren't buying quality, and their customer service is rude. Their selection is terrible and the store SMELLS AWFUL! We will NEVER return! read more

Worst experience! The person checking me in told me it would take about 30 minutes and it ended up taking an hour and a half! The boy going through my clothes was SO slow and had to check almost every piece with a girl I am assuming was his supervisor. I get training someone, but not while I'm waiting an hour longer than promised. As far as what they buy and their selection, it's all cheaper brands like F21 & H&M. I found a dress on the rack from H&M marked at $10 that I bought new for $12. I suppose I'm used to stores like this having a nicer selection and buying better brands. Terrible customer service, and their selection process is a joke! I brought in a HUGE bag full of gently used clothes from my mom and myself. None of the clothes had holes, stains or tears, and all were what I would consider to be "in style" for right now. The girl was very rude and told me it would take 30 minutes. I left and came back a couple hours later. The guy checking me out said they couldn't take ANYthing. I had over 60 pieces of clothing all in great shape. He said none of the items were in fashion right now (apparently jeans aren't in fashion ever) and gave me the clothes back. The time before that, I was browsing for t-shirts and found one with pit stains on it. So, they WILL take pit stained shirts, but shirts that are a little out of date (according to them) don't make the mark. I will NOT be coming back. Do yourself a favor and donate clothes to Idaho Youth Ranch and write it off your taxes. You end up getting more back then you would get from this rip off store. read more

I love Plato's Closet. It's one of my favorite places to shop because I hate going to the mall just to find the same stuff in every store that everybody else is already wearing. I love the variety available here and the savings are definitely a plus! The store is fairly large and well-organized by clothing type (tank tops, t-shirts, long sleeve tops, etc) and then further organized by size and color. They have a men's section that is definitely not as large as the women's section, but they really can't help who comes in to donate, so I don't think that's anything they can really be faulted for... I have always found there to be ample parking and fitting rooms when I have gone. It's conveniently located on Franklin near the Starbucks and Cabela's. They have a loyalty card...you get a stamp for every $10 you spend or earn by selling clothes and then get a 20% discount when you've earned 20 stamps...actually, they just went digital w these and do it by phone number now instead of w a paper card and actual stamps...this was just implemented during my last visit, so I don't have much experience w it yet. They carry accessories such as jewelry, shoes, and purses, too. I've always found the employees to be helpful, when needed, and always friendly. They have carts and some of them even have seats for use w older children...as in idk at least 2 or 3 years old I would say? You get 1/3 of the retail price they will offer the item/s at when you sell, I believe. It doesn't usually come out to much, but it's better than nothing and I usually just have them apply it to my purchase (because I'm always there to shop when I'm there to donate). They're pretty choosy, but whatever, it doesn't bother me. Then you can either donate what they don't take or keep it to do w as you please. read more

I guess I am just not the target consumer for this store, selling or buying. Contrary to most reviews, the customer service was good, the ladies at the checkout line were very nice to me (I'd give a 4 stars for the service during my visit). But I was just not impressed by the selection. Everything looked pretty much the same, like stuff you buy from teen stores at the mall, so, although they had a lot of product, everything looked like they could have been from the same brand. It was hard to find the kind of original pieces you find on a thrift store, for example. The prices were ok, with a few exceptions that I thought were too high for the quality of the product. Once again, I was just expecting something different. If you like the trendy stuff they sell at the mall, by all means, this is the place for you. But if you are looking for original, different pieces, or you have a more eclectic style, this might not be the place for you. read more

I agree with a lot of Jolene's review. Most the items are mainstream average things nothing with a major wow factor. I enjoy selling to them. I never make very much, but it is better than nothing. One thing I have tried is to retry selling items they turn away the first time. I would say about 1/2 the time they take stuff they rejected the day before- what's that say about their buying aims? They took more clothes than what they paid me for, and when I realized when I got home I called and they told me they bought the items I was missing, yet at checkout th that was not the case. Then I asked for my itemized receipt and she said they have no data of what they purchased as it gets deleted after they pay for it??? But somehow she knew they bought the missing items?? Today, I dropped off a box full of clothing and was quoted 20-25 minutes. Which was no problem, I decided to shop around at stores nearby. It was taking a really long time, but I was being patient because it's a saturday, which I know can be busy. However, I never received a text that my clothing was ready to be picked up. After nearly 3 hours of waiting, I decided to go back and ask them if everything was ready. The sales associates told me that their systems were down and blocking them from sending text messages and that my stuff had been ready for a long time. My problem is, they could have called me and they didn't even try to. They had my cell phone number, and I know for a fact that their calls were going through, because I saw an associate answer the phone as I was leaving.. I've worked retail/customer service for years and how rude people can be. So I consider myself a really reasonable person and go out of my way to be understanding of retail employees, because I've been in their position. But I think it is really disrespectful to waste my time like that and not even make any attempts to get in contact with me. After all was said and done, they took 6 items for $9. Which, I would have been completely fine with, but it was pretty disappointing considering that it took 3 hours:( read more

A little discouraged because I brought in 4 giant garbage bags of gently used clothing and they only chose to keep 17 items. Some of the things they passed up were Abercrombie and Fitch, Billabong, MEK Denim, and a bunch of stuff from the buckle.
