Very quick smooth service. I took my clothes folded in a clear plastic vin as they don't want clothes being brought in plastic garbage bags. I also brought a lot of shoes in their original boxes ( I like to keep everything as it comes so it stays clean and organized) they accepted a few of my items since they need what is in season. I have a ton of clothes and shoes that I realize are in great condition but never wear anymore, so I felt this would be a great way to get rid of and still get some money. Received my cash for it and took the rest back. They were very friendly and efficient. The store has a TON of items, I had to leave so I didn't end up buying more clothes lol because I'm clearly trying to make space at home. I don't know how to express it, but worst experience ever took some clothes to sell they gave me back every single piece I gave them. They only kept one item. They stated that the clothes was out of date when everything was bought in the past six months, no ripped stained clothes was in there super good brands. Unprofessional and Unpleasant Experience at Bradenton Location My fiancé and I have been shopping at and selling to Plato's Closet for years, visiting various locations from Tampa to Sarasota. While we've occasionally had frustrating experiences, the Bradenton location stands out for all the wrong reasons and tarnishes the reputation of Plato's Closet as a whole. We recently moved to Sarasota and decided to sell some gently used, high-quality clothing. Although the Sarasota location was closer, Bradenton seemed more organized, so we gave it a shot. From the moment we walked in, the staff's lack of enthusiasm was evident--no warm welcome, just the feeling that they didn't want to be there. We were told the evaluation process would take 25-30 minutes, which is standard. However, within 10 minutes, we were told they accepted six items for a total of $3.50. These items included brand-new leggings, barely-worn $200 Jordan 11s, Gymshark outfits, and Victoria's Secret PINK items. Their offer was insulting, to say the least. Determined to give them another chance, we returned with the same items a few days later. This time, the offer was even lower for more items. My fiancé questioned their decision, as the items were still in pristine condition. The staff's response? Rudeness and dismissiveness. On my most recent visit, December 14, 2024, they refused to take anything. Their excuse? My clothes were "outdated" because they don't accept anything from before 2022. What a joke! These were stylish, high-quality items in excellent condition. This policy--and their attitude--are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the Plato's Closet brand. The staff (a group of young women, including a blonde, one with a septum piercing, and a Hispanic woman) barely reviewed the items on each visit. The blonde didn't even go through half the box and clearly didn't refold anything after looking at it--a stark contrast to how we neatly presented the items. Overall, the experience was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and downright unpleasant. This location lacks basic customer service skills and attention to detail. If Plato's Closet values its reputation, the management needs to address the attitude and work ethic of this team. Until then, I'd strongly recommend avoiding this location. read more

I don't know if it's the new staff but I read the other review wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. But they really do not know not to do there jobs or are just lazy. I took my stuff in about a week ago and mind you this is clothes I wore when I was 18-22. I donated my stuff because people keep thinking I'm 18 when I'm 25 cause the way I dress. I knew Plato's was the perfect place for my style cause I've gone here for about 15 years now. Some items I literally got from this location and wore once. She told me my clothes were too "formal" I just laughed in her face and I said crop tops and short tight dresses from SHEIN and sweatpants and boating trunks are formal now? And she just stared at me. They took the brand new $20 playboy swimsuit and brand new $25 charlotte Russe dress though even though it's not season right now for summer wear so why would they stock up on it? Yay. I went in with 2.5 tubblewares of brand new or worn once clothes and heels and walked out with $9 for two things and it took them 4 hours. They couldn't even find my stuff when I got there and it was the only tubblewares they had. Mind you I went to another store before this and they said my stuff wasn't formal enough for their clothing store. So what is it? Formal or not? read more

This place is a joke. If they like any of the clothes/shoes you bring in, they will give you only between 50 cents and 2.50 (maybe 3$!) for immaculate, name brand items (per item) Terrible! Never selling there again, nor will I shop either. They have low quality (shein) items for sale in the store though...AND SO MANY OUTDATED ITEMS, but won't take brand new Lululemon sportswear? Madewell jeans? Levi's shorts w/tags attached, in style and new to season... 150$ pair of shoes from free people in great condition... for 2.50. Take back your items and RUN. Seriously, you are better off selling on the dreaded posh-mark and lose the 20% commission instead. This place is closed more than a church That's only open on Sundays. Also they're never buying clothes you can go in at 11 AM and they already tell you that they are done buying for the day. And even when they are buying, they'll maybe take three items that are hot and popular at the moment and give you 400 cents for it. their selection is small and not great. Don't bother going to the location go to the one in Tampa or maybe Sarasota 1 million times better don't waste your time. read more

Had two really great experiences here the first and second time I visited to sell some gently worn clothing. My first two buys were filled with quality, name brand items, some still with tags, or with obvious connections to popular stores. Each time I brought roughly 30-40 items, they'd purchase between 10-20, and I'd happily walked out of the store $100+ richer; ready to take whatever they decided not to purchase to the goodwill drive thru next door. Made my third visit today with nothing but the same quantity and quality of clothes I've brought with me previously; expecting to be decently satisfied with their offer as 85% of the items they saw this afternoon were either purchased in the previous year and/or still have current tags and stickers attached. When I received a text that my buy was done barely 15 minutes after I dropped it off (I brought all items folded neatly, stuffed inside an oversized suitcase), I immediately smelled something fishy. They offered me $24 and some change for 11 items. I accepted the laughable offer, because after all, my main goal is to clear my closet of stuff I don't need, want, or wear anymore with hope I'd be able to maybe make a buck in the process and donate the rest. But, today I decided to skip the typical drop off at goodwill afterwards and instead I went home to look through what they passed on. Imagine my surprise (or lack thereof) when I opened the suitcase to find nearly every brand new and tagged item neatly folded in the exact same spot as it was before, each item being nestled very conveniently in the same exact order I packed everything in. In my mind there are only two logical explanations as to why this may have happened. 1) They saw how many items were in this buy and out of pure laziness and/or disdain for their jobs (my very first job at 16 years old was at a Plato's Closet in NC so I can very much so relate unfortunately) decided not to look through it all and made quick decisions to take just a few things and push me back out the door. Evidenced by how picture perfect the inside of the suitcase was when I got home, ominously reminiscent of how I packed it. Or 2) The training they received on how to select quality items to sell in their store was abhorrently inadequate and as a result they lack awareness of current trends, timeless staples, and classic statement pieces; clocking in and clocking out each day in blissful ignorance to the fact that their offerings in-store make the items in my suitcase look like Chanel straight off the runway. If the point flew over your head with this one, their store is filled with what looks like a high school sophomore in 2017 would take camera timer selfies in to post on their Snapchat story for all 34 of their closest friends to see. What I buy for myself, and therefore offer to resale stores like Plato's, is nothing of the sort. Mind you, each of the three times I've been in there's been a different pair of employees working, so I haven't been as frequent a visitor as some others to get a feel for any sort of consistency or buying trends. I just went in today with nothing but quality clothes, and the decent expectations set forth by the wonderful employees I interacted with previously, who seemed to take at least one infinitesimal shred of pride in their jobs. Though after today I can definitely tell you that I'm going to think twice about selling at this location the next time I'm looking to declutter my closet. To spend time neatly folding and laundering so many items (because the passive-aggressive sign on their front door literally says you must) only to be essentially denied a fair look-through every single piece before making a final purchase decision doesn't feel like a good bargain. I spent at least an hour packing the suitcase. To take only 15 minutes to "look through everything" told me all I needed to know about how this was going to go. The math wasn't math-ing babes. I walked in with two large bags of clothes and the first thing the girl at the counter said was, "Sorry, we don't take clothes in plastic bags." Have NEVER heard this at any other Plato's I've been to. She said they only accept clothes in boxes or bins & that Office Depot next door sold cardboard boxes. I went next door and bought a box for $6. With all the clothes I brought, they took 2 nice pairs of jeans, a bracelet, and top for a sale of $14. Minus the $6 I spent on the box, I made a net sale of $8 which is ridiculous. Next time I'll just go straight to Goodwill. read more

Expecting most if not all of the items to be bought. when i went back in i was told they didnt want any of the items because they were "out of style" or had wear and tear. i went back thru the box of clothes thinking i maybe had accidentally grabbed something that was meant to be donated, as i know they are picky so i only bring things that i know will sell. SHIEN!!! isnt this place supposed to be helping to end fast fashion and overconsumption?? if you want shien clothes for more expensive than you can find them on the app, this is your place!! read more

I do not recommend you go here to sell your clothes. I HIGHLY recommend that the store takes everything off the rack and start fresh. I took a HUGE bin of folded clothes that were barely worn, tags still on and or were brand name clothes. And NONE of them but 8 pieces were taken for about $20 and I was left with 20+ articles of good quality clothing. Meanwhile, while browsing the racks, I usually find 1-3 good things hidden in there, but it's full of clothes/styles that I saw between 2006-2015. What was returned to me was clothes that were thrown into a pile like dirty laundry. They wanted 5 of my items and then proceeded to tell me they only accept younger kids clothing. They suggested a place for "old people's" clothing consignment and I'm not old. The associate was dressed unprofessionally and went out of her way to be sure I felt disrespected because I happened to be an older age than her. I brought in a large tub of clean, folded clothes. Mostly tops, swim suits, and shoes. They told me it would be about 1/2 hour to an hour. I told them that was fine, I would go get lunch. They texted me in about 20 minutes to say they were done. That was impossible. They only took one item out of 100. Everything in the tub was in excellent shape. Probably only wore 1 or 2 xs. They gave me $3.50 for one piece. I looked at the box, and noticed immediately nothing was taken out. Just messed up, big time. Stuff near the bottom was still nicely folded. I've done this before with other consignment/thrift stores. The stores usually took all or most of my clothes. The girl at the front desk was very nice. Then the manager came out and was very rude and had an uppity attitude. I was told my clothes were out of style or too old for the store. It was insulting, to say the least. I walked around the store and saw their prices. I saw one outfit I almost bought at Bealls. It was $16.00. So they don't just take upper end clothes. Thought that was rather pricey. I won't ever recommend the store to anyone. read more

I brought in Hurley, American Eagle, and roxy/Kirra style dresses in new condition and not a single item was accepted, which is fine and I'm not upset about that, BUT why was I then told that the reason my items weren't accepted was because they weren't brands they accept? The flyer the cashier gave me with the list of brands they accept literally has these brands right on it. Quite honestly, looking at the crap they are selling in the store, I think my stuff was too nice for the store. They were selling a noticeably used bag that bath and body works customers receive for free with a purchase for $15.... that alone speaks for itself. Okay, first of all, I very rarely write reviews at all.. unless I am blown away by the place/service or if I find it very disappointing (keep in mind this is my first 1 star review). Unfortunately, this is a disappointing one. I am not surprised at all this place only has 1 star. I have been shopping and selling at Platos Closet for many years and this was my worst experience yet. Let me tell you why... 1. I brought in one small bag of clothes and was told it would be 20 minutes. It took 2 hours. 2. The employees are very unprofessional and rude. They were sorting through someones clothes and loudly making fun of them (keep in mind there are customers in here...!!) What if that person heard them making fun of how small their sports bra was?? Yeah that happened.. no excuse for that. 3. The employees literally yell to each other throughout the store about how they can't wait to get off work, making comments about clothes they're sorting through, drama in their relationship, etc. 4. When I finally came back to get my stuff 2 hours later when I got the text saying my clothes were done, (I was planning on waiting the "20 minutes" but left after 40 because I was hangry and needed food.. :-)) they forgot to price the clothes they were going to take. It was blamed on an employee who left.. 5. I never received an apology or any friendliness this whole time.. the girl just seemed annoyed Good lord, ok so lesson learned. I will just be taking my clothes to Goodwill from now on.. it's not even worth going to Plato's. Save yourselves the time and just donate your clothes or sell them on a clothes selling website! Went in to drop off my clothes before having a medical procedure done later that week. Spoke to 2 teenagers working who assured me a simple phone call would allow me to have them hold my clothes 1 day more if they didn't buy something back as their policy is 48 hours. Called the next day to let them know I needed 1 days extension for pickup due to my medical procedure and was told all was well. It was not, they donated my clothes without permission and didn't buy 1 single item. Owner has refused to speak to me even after their manager told me on 3 separate phone calls they know the young girl never wrote my information down when I first called for an extension. It's the most unprofessional and rude business owner I've ever had to NOT deal with. All I wanted was an apology and potentially some sort of refund seeing as I could have sold my clothing elsewhere at their sister store... which also their teenage staff told me about in the first place. read more

Wow! The last 10 mins before they close the customer service goes out the window. All you hear from the employees yelling across the store is "we close in 10 mins" "at 5 mins you can call out that we are closing" "you can say it again at 3 mins" "can we lock the doors now" "turn the music off" "call it out again that we are closing in 1 min" checking out clothes got shoved in the bag. Change was practically shoved in my moms hand. Went to put close back that I tried on for them and was told the fitting rooms were closed. Lady walked us to the door which we've never had done at any store even after closing they usually wait for us to walk out to lock the door. The whole vibe at the end is very rushing I understand they want to get to get off work but don't let your customers feel that. read more

I tried to sell them my never-worn, excellent condition, NEW WITH TAG, neon DC shoes from Journeys that cost $80 and they offered me $6. I understand it's a business, I work at a small business myself, but this was ridiculous. They also sell ratty, gross clothes and refuse to buy anything more than 18 months old. I took in a bag of Aeropostale and Hollister clothes and they only gave me $7. The clerk who payed us was wearing an ugly sweater with holes in it (looked like her grandmother crocheted it) and she told me they only accept modern and clothes that are in style. This is what she's telling us the whole time she's wearing that ugly ass homemade sweater. Apparently it's the individual clerk's opinion on what's modern and in style lol. read more
