2 stars. I was there to sell a bin of clothing. I was quoted an hour, so I browsed the store for about 40 minutes before checking on my stuff. It hadn't even been touched. There were at least four employees working but only one was going through the clothing at a time. I literally watched two employee with their elbows on the counter daydreaming. They said it would be another 30 minutes before my clothes were done. I finally saw them looking through my items and they didn't even really look at many of the pieces. After 1.5 hour wait, I was offered $14 for three items. Two of the items were current, name brand, brand new with tags and they offered me $4! I'm disappointed that there was no sense of urgency to review my items. Even after being quoted an hour, there still was no urgency nor an apology for taking longer. Bottomline: it better to get a few dollars than drop everything at goodwill, but was it worth my time. No. Did I see some cute items that I might go back to buy. Yeah. Do they need better customer service. Definitely! read more

Won't even look through your clothes. Dropped off a laundry basket and the clothes at the bottom were still folded the exact same way i had folded them. Most pieces were from expensive boutiques with tags still on. read more

Been coming here to shop and donate clothes for years and I've never been very impressed. They are very picky with the clothes taken. Meaning, many times I have brought clothes in still with tags on or very lightly used things and thy aren't taken for being "too old". Sometimes I feel like it is best to not bring in clothes on a weekend because when it's busy, they don't look at the clothes as thoroughly. Just my opinion. The clothes they sell are alright, but I feel like for a thrift store they are often times over priced. I've always had a positive experience with the staff. read more

I came in on Saturday 4/30 with a MOUNTAIN full of gently used and NEW clothing from AE and even Express and other brands that folks have been buying - and ALL these teenagers got out of the pile was a NON BRAND Hippie poncho from my costume last year! Are you KIDDING me!? These kids are lazy and a joke! I had brand new AE jean short shorts from last summer NEVER WORN and they didn't even bother to look. This location use to be where I purchased a majority of my clothes as well as shoes now it is not even comparable to what it was. I don't know if this place is under new management/ownership, but I am very disappointed. The cleanliness of the store is non-existant. Every isle is full of popped hangers, stained clothing, and dirty clothes that have fallen on the ground. There are about 7-8 employees in the front of the store, none of them can do a quick walk-through of the floor to clean up a little? I felt dirty being in there. The shoes that they have are overworn, VERY pilled, dirty, and covered in scuffs. It seemed like every pair of slippers/flip-flops still had toes in them. This is not even mentioning that these pieces are being sold anywhere from $25-$55. Ridiculous. The kids who are working in the front act like they have never spoken to a customer. I understand that this is probably their first job, but they could at least make eye contact. When being asked what was wrong with passed clothes they just hand you a slip with no explanation. If you want to shop at a glamorized Good Will, or out of a dirty teenaged girls hamper then you should shop here. If you want to shop for decent resale clothes that are in quality condition at a fair price, I would look elsewhere. Literally anywhere else where. Overall this place is a joke. Each time I am even more dissatisfied with the service, overall friendliness and how my items being sold with tags are not selected due to the attitude from staff towards me. Don't even bother trying to sell your clothes here, they MIGHT give you like $5-10 (for your entire buy). They seemed snobby in there and like they didn't care to be bothered. Brought in 5 huge bags and a bin of stuff and i can telling they only looked at the items on top and didn't go through most of it including the bin! It took them less than 10 minutes to "sort through" everything. And then they didn't even offer to give an itemized receipt and snatched what couple pieces they did take, rudely away while i was signing the receipt and looking over everything. What a waste of a 40 minute drive. The locations in avon and at Washington street are way better and pay a lot for your stuff. read more

First of all me and my husband tried to sell his NAME BRAND shoes I'm not talking like low class shoes I'm talking shoes that cost 120 and up. They wanted to buy two of the shoes for 20 all together. We were so pissed bc for both shoes it was combined about 250. Obviously we knew we wasn't gonna walk out with 250 but at least 100 for 4 pairs that's still crazy low but better than 20 dollars for two shoes worth over 120. read more

Update: took my clothes in today all nice and neatly folded. I watched them take the top 3 layers of clothes out, crumple them, and put them back on top of the box. They said "sadly we are unable to buy any of your items". surprising since they didn't even look at them. In my opinion the workers don't have trendy/stylish tastes which is why I find the clothes they buy and sell are not popular or trendy. Lol so I just went to Platos Closet not too long ago attempting to sell some of my clothes. Mind you, I had brand new items with price tags on them, name brand from Gucci to Champion; all were in really good condition...no tears no stains or nothing. When it was all said and done, they told me they couldn't buy any of it. Lol seriously? Of course, I wasn't expecting a whole lot given the reputation they have for EXTREME low balling as well as my own personal experience with them in the past. I've tried two times to come and sell clothes. The first time I came they had a sign outside that they stopped accepting clothes two hours before close. They did not post ANYTHING on their social media showing this. The second time I came I made it a point to check their social media again to make sure they hadn't posted anything. It's really a shame because they have cute clothes at this location but the workers customer service is just awful. they will judge you and not help you. you stand around waiting for a dressing room. When going to sell if you're not dressed cute they won't even look at your clothes all the way they'll rush through it and then text you and say your pick up is ready. I took back two pair of Hey Dudes that I've worn maybe twice each, and were in mint condition. I also took in a pair of Madden boots that cost $140 that I wore maybe 10 times last year, again, in mint condition. None of my shows had scuffs, stains, or odors, other than "new". Im sitting in my car while i'm typing this because i just walked out from this store location & this is my first time trying to sell. I just tried to sell my clothes here mind you i had brought a new bathing suit with the tags still on it & in the bag it came in, clothes that are from brands they "love"; & to be fair some clothes were 2 or 3 years old but that wasn't even a reason they gave me on why they didn't take any of the clothes i brought. The reasons were because they had been worn ( which is the point of the store to sell old worn clothes) & because they were hard to sell (when i know for a fact people would've bought them) i don't understand the point of this store if selling is going to be difficult or pointless. read more

I have to say that this place definitely could work on their service as they are seldom friendly, and even more seldom helpful. That isn't a great combination. Still I'll give it a "3" out of "5" since we are able to find clothing that my teen-age son will wear at a price that doesn't always make me cringe. I'm usually very generous with handing out stars if they seem to give a good service for what they do. This place just doesn't deserve more than meh in my opinion. My kiddo started caring about the clothes he wears so this is a place that has a variety of shirts, joggers, and hoodies that seem to be staples of this teen. They definitely charge more for Nike and certain other brands which I find that to be less thrifty option but maybe it's still a deal. The changing room policy is a bit annoying ... only a few items are allowed, and they tend to be on the intimidating side (remember what I said about their service above ... seldom friendly and seldom helpful). Still, we are often spending allowances and then some at this store in order to outfit the young and young-at-heart. I do like that they have a lot of shoes, coats and jackets that seem to fit moms as well. Plato's also have discount clubs, text messaging with specials (that never seem to motivate me at the time), clearance items (that never seem to be good enough to actually buy) and a frequent shopper card that gives points for every $10 spent. Once the card is filled up, you can use it for a discount on the next shopping trip. I've now filled up several cards in the past and am ready for the next one. I have yet to sell anything back to them. It's unlikely that we'll be getting anything for our efforts, so I've been reluctant to make the effort. Maybe I'll be desperate enough someday soon to do so in order to get some cash ( but I actually hope not!) and will probably update the review with that information. read more

When I had soooooooo much designer and unworn items in my bags, they didn't even fully look in the bags at all because all of the good stuff was at the bottom. Eh, this place doesn't really do it for me. I thought the same thing years ago when I tried selling some stuff at their Greenwood location and, like Mia M. was disappointed with what they offered me. I'd rather donate my old clothes to Goodwill and know that I am helping a good cause rather than take the pennies they'll offer you. The store does have a distinct thrift store aroma, which is fine if you can find dirt cheap prices to accompany it. I didn't have the energy to go through the racks of clothes, but I did notice a skirt exactly like one that I already own. For comparison's sake I thought I had better see how much it cost. I bought the skirt brand new at Charlotte Russe three summers ago, and Plato's only had it priced a few dollars less than what I paid way back then. I did find a few cute pairs of shoes at decent prices ($12 for a barely worn pair of super cute Guess kitten heels), but sadly none of them fit. I didn't stay too long because they were blaring a hip hop satellite radio station so loud that between the music and the aroma, I could barely think. Bottom line - for me, the prices here don't justify any of the hassles. One positive note - the employees at Plato's Closet were much more friendly than the women working at Zoey's a couple doors down. read more

Today for #ThankYouThursday, I'd like to thank the owner of Plato's Closet in Fishers. After 54 days of quarantine, I wanted some new comfortable pants because I had grown weary of wearing the same three pair. So that morning, after dropping off my kiddo at work down the street, I put on my mask and popped inside. I was the only customer there, and there were just two employees working. I made a bee-line back to the leggings and quickly found three new pair that I knew would fit me. (Rightfully, the dressing rooms are off limits right now). On my way to the register, I found a cute crop top for my aforementioned daughter. Even though this was a super quick visit, I couldn't help but notice two things. First, the store looks incredible inside. It's clean and neat and meticulously merchandised. It was so nice, it made me WANT to shop, and I don't enjoy shopping! The second thing I noticed is all of the safety measures that have been implemented to keep patrons and staff safe. No one is allowed to enter without a face mask. The employees wear them at all times. There are clearly marked lines on the floor telling patrons which way to proceed down the aisles as well as in front of the cash registers. There are also large plexiglass windows at the checkout counters. I can tell the staff has been working hard on the store during this shutdown. The place looks fantastic and I felt very comfortable shopping there. I complimented both girls working before I left. Thank you for doing such a great job. read more

Back in the day, Plato's Closets were the places to take all of your spring cleaning and get paid $$$ for it. Now that everyone has caught onto the trend, it's not so much. This place is packed with tons and tons of clothes. Yes, name-brand items, but there's so much. I haven't been back from quite some time to purchase items simply cause of the large bed bug outbreak around Indianapolis. Most recently, I took quite a few clothes (all in great shape and all name brand) to see if they'd purchase anything as they had been sitting in my closet for some time. Out of the 20 items, they purchased one item for $10. Much smaller amount than I thought, but if you're looking to make some $$$ from reselling, it's best to look elsewhere. Understandably so, this place has tons and tons of items coming in everyday so of course they have to be selective. If people aren't purchasing the clothes (as it looked like the last time I was in there cause the racks are jam packed with clothes and accessories), then of course you aren't going to get much money from them. Overall, I think Plato's Closets' times have come and gone. It's a good service to have, but don't expect to get much money anymore from them unless you're reselling stuff you purchased within the last few months. read more

I took two tubs of clothes in there today at like 4 and the lady gives me the rundown on how things work there (even though i told her i've sold there before) and doesn't give me a time estimate which was fine. i then waited two hours and still not done. went to a bunch of other stores for another two hours and when i get back they're still not done. they hadn't even STARTED looking through my bins yet. it was like 7:30 and my bins were still chillin on the top shelf. they finally starting looking through them only to give me 4 dollars for one shirt. i also live like an hour and a half away so this was a huge inconvenience for me. they also all have a horrible attitude problem 0/10 i do not recommend. read more
