After seeing some reviews I was nervous to check this place out, I've been to plenty of Plato's closets- just not this location. What I will say about this location: you get what is advertised. Compared to other Plato's, this store is large, clean and pretty well organized. Tons of great finds, but again..when it comes to thrifting/second hand stores don't expect all lululemon clothes and excellent customer service: this store is maintained by many high schoolers. Expect to sift through racks of clothes to find that perfect shirt or pant. As far as thrifting and resale, platos is a great and affordable spot to refresh your wardrobe. dont waste ur time and effort I stopped doing business here awhile ago but i gave them another try since they advertised theyre taking denim jeans however it was another fail! Out of the 25 pairs i brought in they only took 1 pair and offered $3 how ridiculous! My items were up to date in excellent condition a good variety most juniors sizes and brands such as levis river island ambercombie n fitch old navy express some even new with tags and better then what they have on the racks What a waste of my time! Great deals! Fun to shop! Probably the best location out of all the Chicagoland location that carries name brands and has all sizes from 1x-2x. Been shopping there since high school and I could say the employees are very detail oriented on inventory to find the best selections for customers needs, I'm in retail so I completely understand. It beats the competition if you aren't into online shopping. Save that time to shop at Plato's because they do have fitting rooms, which is so convenient. Be aware! They will try to offer you Pennies on the dollar for Ugg's and crocs. I didn't take the offer because they are skimpy on the price. They will give you nothing for name brand items to sale for triple the price they paid you for them. Also customer service is nonexistent if you aren't a certain shade of skin color. I applied to work here a while ago and #1 had a great interview and was told i'd be called the next day.. I never heard from them (neither yes or no) which seemed very unprofessional. I tried to continue selling but they took 226 dollars worth of new clothes WITH THE TAGS + some other brand clothes and gave me 25 dollars in return.. Tips for selling: -Bring your items in a duffle bag or even a piece of luggage to make things easier on yourself. Trust me when I tell you that they will likely, not buy everything you bring if you being a large quantity of items because they stick to current fashions! They will return your bags or totes to you when you return. -Wash your clothes before you bring them in if you want to make them more desirable and clean for the shoppers for trying on when they come to shop. -Don't expect to get rich, but they seem to be very fair with their offers. I would not recommend this place to anyone trying to sell their clothes you're better off going to a differtient plato's closet location. If you are not a Caucasian they will treat you differently. I was completely ignored for over 40 mins till they finally decided to look at my items and wanted to buy all of it for just 18 bucks. This is hard to write because I'm a huge supporter of small businesses and resale shops. But today, I put down a pile of clothes on the fitting room desk and walked out. After waiting 25 min for a fitting room, I was informed they were not letting you try on clothes that were on clearance!! Because of theft?! The fitting room attendant checked every single tag, how many items, and was very organized. So if the fitting room attendant was doing their job so well, why not try on clearance or any kind of clothing. Second, if their loss prevention is so high, then maybe be a business owner and get security tags. Third, the sale items are final sale and being sold at 70% off.. they are probably selling them a little above the price they paid for them. I really didn't get it. I've been a patron at this location for a long time, but today was the final straw for me. Even the signage staying the no try on policy in the aisle was small and not even noticeable. How are you supposed to get rid of your clearance inventory without try on?? Especially in a place that you need to try on! Just have to shake my head on this one and move on. read more

Quite disappointed in this store. I used to sell and buy at the old Plato's location in Lincoln Park, and figured it might be a little similar.... but it was far from it! They literally only buy and sell brands such as Target, Walmart and Forever 21. They target their clothing only towards teens. They also say that the styles need to be up to 1.5 years old, but there were plenty of items here that were far older. So, if you have nice brand name clothing sold at Nordstrom or Macy's, do not expect to sell any of those items here OR find any to purchase to here. I bought in Nike Kobe 's and Jordan's there are currently selling at $200 and up on eBay and they would not buy it cuz it's 2 years older . My items were in prestige condition. I'm a sneaker collector that's just making more room for new stuff at my house . This location needs to be educated what sneakers would sell . I was willing to give it up for cheap just to have the room at my house instead of selling them on eBay or stock x . What I bought in and comparing to what they had in that store to sell was night in day in quality and cleanliness . Never again I'm coming to this place and support it. Staff was friendly but the clothes they have in store are awful. The other Plato's in the area have incredible selections but there isn't much in this store I'd even look at. Sales here is also the worst of any location I've been to. Brought in two bags of clothes from the last year, one whole bag with tags still on and they took a super old tank top and a dress I was horrified I had ever even owned because the pattern was so ugly. The staff here is very friendly and diligent about acknowledging you and directing you with your needs, whether you are buying, selling, etc. I have taken items to them a handful of times and they don't buy anything. They are incredibly selective on styles and brand, regardless the quality. They don't take any women's "professional" wear, like Ann Taylor, banana republic, etc no matter how nice or stylish. read more

I had been selling Plato's Closet on-and-off to clean out my closet, and this location is 100% focused on trendy styles from fast fashion brands. The buyers are under 21 and look for items that sell well and teens would wear so keep in mind that they likely wouldn't buy older designer items or high heels. On my last visit, the racks were full of Forever 21, Love Culture, H&M, etc. in the $5-$12 price range. In the past, there was a sprinkle of other mall names (Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, etc), but they have either moved away from buying more "mature" brands or sellers have opted to go elsewhere due to the low payout (less than 1/3 of what they sell it for). For example, I found a new with tags dress from Forever 21 that was originally $22.XX priced at $6. This means great savings for the buyer, and the seller probably only recouped $2. If you bring in your items during off-peak hours, it only takes about 10 minutes to process, but I've had to wait 30-45 min. when there were other bags ahead (usually in the early evening). For items that are just taking up closet space and commands too much effort to sell individually, Plato's Closet is helpful but keep in mind the average payout has usually only $2-3 per item. read more

I would not visit this Plato's Closet again due to the absolutely horrible customer service. I wanted to sell clothes and called to find out the closing time. I had to listen to a long automated message before I found out that they closed at 8pm. Luckily, I continued to wait on the line and spoke with a real representative because the real closing time was 4pm due to a holiday although this was not noted on the automated message. I informed the woman I spoke to that I would be selling clothes and she told me to be there before 4pm. I drove across the entire city to get to this location and arrived at 3:15pm. As soon as I entered, an extremely rude employee told me that they would not have time to look at my clothes that day and to come back because there were two people ahead of me in line. I explained that I had traveled very far just to sell my clothes and that I had called just before 3pm and expressed my interest in selling clothes and had been told just to come by 4pm. Despite the fact that I saw at least three people working there and only two people were in line in front of me, I was turned away with absolutely zero effort to accomodate me. I usually frequent other Plato's Closets and its always a hit or miss with the clothes but at least I always encounter pleasant service. Totally not the case at this particular location..I agree with the other reviewers..their customer service sucks..I am sure that not all the staff that works there is rude..but the two I encountered when I went this past week certainly were. They wouldnt acknowledged that an item that I was thinking of buying was defective..and wouldnt offer a discount despite the fact that clearly the item looked like itd been stretched out from the elastic.. the way they handled the situation was unprofessional and dismissive.
