The short, dark brown haired girl working up front was super helpful, she helped me find exactly what I was looking for, super nice and had great customer service skills. You don't see a lot of young people with great customer skills anymore, so mad respect for her!! I think her name was Sydney I believe. Bad customer service, late to open and very rude all the customers that were waiting. Was trying to sell some items, they had a lot of items to go through. Told me it would take 4-5 hours....they called an hour later and it looked like they didn't even go through anything. Everything was folded the same way as I dropped the items off. I brought some things including Urban Outfitters, American Eagle, and Free People, and they offered me $11 for a Free People dress, tshirt, and Princess Polly romper. I was speechless. It's organized and people are nice but it's a hit or miss. They have way too much target and Old Navy stuff as well as a lot of stuff that is just old or has pilling or even holes. Which is funny because platos closet should be picky with the stuff they take and it looks like they just took anything. Which they don't so I dont know what's going on here. read more

On occasion you can find some thing that's not stained or ripped. They request that you bring everything nicely folded an organized and when they give it back to you after going through your clothing it's a jumbled mess. Do not waste your time and energy trying to sell anything at the Lynchburg Plato's closet! I brought in 3 HUGE bags of clothes after going through my closet. Name brand, new styles, GREAT condition...I dropped them off and just decided I would come back the next day and pick them up since I brought in so much I figured it would take them a bit of time to go through it all(one of the girls there said it would take like 40 minutes) they called me 12 minutes after I had left and said they were done going through my items. 12 minutes?! Instantly knowing that there is no way someone could have looked through all those clothes in such a short time I didn't expect much when coming back the next day to pick up my stuff. The girls working seemed very irritated when I walked in and gave me all 3 of my bags back still completely full EXACTLY as I had brought them in. The same shirts were even on top as I had remembered and one of the bags I had tied up before bringing it in, was still tied(clearly they hadn't even gone through my clothes). The girl said unfortunately they had to pass on ALL my items and gave me pretty much no explanation why other than that they weren't looking for fall clothing. Then I mentioned how I thought they had advertised for people to bring in their clothing to sell for "back to school" and the girl just stared at me and said "Yeah but we aren't really buying fall clothes like jeans and sweaters now" I honestly had no words other than just don't waste your time and take your clothes to the Roanoke in Plato's instead if you actually want to sell anything and get paid fairly. read more

Super disappointed with the costumer service here, me and my sister in law came is and had already set aside things to purchase and were trying things on. One of the sales girls came over to us in the fitting rooms and was super aggressive and rude and was like hey we are closed just so you know, then she came back a second time and told us that they were closing the registers and we wouldn't be able to purchase our things. I was shocked at how rude they were, I work in retail and would never be that rude to someone. read more

I love the many options they have of high quality brand!! It's a great place to shop to buy cute clothes for low prices. They have everything color coded, so everything is very easy to find the perfect piece of clothing. I would recommend coming to platos closet!! read more

Customer service is awful! It seems as if either their inventory is low or they aren't filling because the racks have HUGE gaps in them which should never be the case. I worked at a Plato's for almost 2 years and this Plato's is a huge disappointment. I sold stuff recently and they told me I had staining on my clothes 1 I know to not bring in clothes with stains & 2 when I asked about where the stains were they weren't able to show me.. read more

They have a great selection of casual clothing, and I also love selling my clothes here for some extra cash. I have read a lot of the reviews left for this store and I am shocked. I actually worked at a Plato's back home and it seems like people are not understanding how all of that works. First, brand new with tags doesn't mean a thing, it's simply how old/ in style the item is. Also, pricing is all done on the computer BY the computer, people aren't just giving you what they feel like giving you. And what most people don't realize that each store has guidelines as to what you are supposed to buy and not buy, which also means they aren't being choosy because they want to be, they have to be, THAT'S THEIR JOB!! I just decided to make that clear because we got similar reviews for my store and it's just because people are so butt hurt that we didn't take their stuff! Keep up the good work! read more

This store doesn't even deserve one star, the employees we're very rude and we're busy chatty than getting work done and checkouts finished. I went to sell clothes because on the radio 'they take all clothes!' Which is a lie they don't buy your clothes they judge them. Excuse me for not buying short shorts and being modest. They said my clothes were out dated and old I just bought them this summer! I payed almost $50 a shirt. She gave me $2.55 for 2 tank tops that cost me $30 together I'm very upset! And the prices on their clothes were ridiculous I could buy them from the store new for half the price. I do not recommend any know to shop there read more

I brought in 3 bags full of current style clothes and they didn't even look at them. It took them about 15 minutes to "look at them" and tell me they wouldn't take anything. The girl that helped me also made up bogus excuses as to why they wouldn't take it, she didn't seem like she was well trained at all. I LOVE the idea of Plato's closet, so when I heard it was coming back to Lynchburg, I was ecstatic...until I actually went there. The store is entirely run by high school girls. Every single time I have ever shopped or attempted to sell to them, there has NEVER been an adult in the building and I had visited that store A LOT. If you spend at least an hour in there you can find some awesome deals. You have to dig through a lot of heavily worn or very outdated garments to find the ones worth what they want for them. A ton of the shoes they have for sale are gross, but if you bring them an almost new pair of name brand shoes, they'll "pass" on them. A bunch of high school girls get to pick what the company will sell or "pass" which is extremely frustrating. They all stand around talking to each other and literally will just buy the clothes that they like, opposed to what will sell. I completely stopped shopping/selling at this location because it is not run well by a bunch of rude teenage girls. On one occasion, I watched a girl pick through my clothes making piles of what she liked and didn't like. She went through my clothes quickly not looking for brands or thinking about other people's style, the whole time talking and laughing with her coworkers, looking around, not paying ANY attention to what she was doing. So when I came up there to get my cash for the things she decided she liked enough to sell, it was an extremely less amount of money than what I was used to getting. (I had sold less items before and made more money.) So I asked the girl how does their system work for payment because it seemed quite inconsistent to me. She looked at me like I was crazy and said they put it in the computer and it tells them how much to give, based on the brand of the item, condition it's in, etc. So not only do they get to pick which clothes they do and do not like, but then they can totally rip you off by putting whatever they want to about your clothes in their system, so you don't get paid the full amount of their worth. And the funniest part of all this, is that if you walk around the store for one whole minute you will find SEVERAL outdated and over-worn items. But then they won't take my practically brand new, name brand clothes. - these are my sarcasm smiles that I have from ever dealing with Plato's Closet in Lynchburg. The idea of this store is a shopaholics dream, but it's reality is just not even worth my time. read more

I had my daughter drop off a ton of practically brand new shoes. When she came back to get the money for them, they had taken all but a few pair. They offered her hardly nothing for a lot of shoes. My daughter left the store called me from the parking lot and I told her absolutely not, to take the money back in and get the shoes back. They refused. I arrived and said that she had never left the property, that I didn't approve of the money offered versus the shoes taken. They were all rude and refused to make the exchange. According to the receipt she was suppose to be 18 to even be allowed to sell and they never checked, much less tried to understand the confusion. They refused to take the money back and make the exchange all in a matter of a few minutes. Threatened to call the cops and have us removed in handcuffs because we questioned policy. I will never take my business her again. A true rip off. Never experienced anything like this in retail. read more
