The top of the $400 dresser I bought was covered with a runner and on top of the runner was a selection of several large lamps for sale and several Knick Knack/tchotchke items for sale. Although I looked over the dresser, opened the drawers, etc., I did not move all the lamps and many assorted knick knacks. I then paid for the dresser and made arrangements to pick it up the following day. When I returned to pick it up, there was a VERY LARGE split in the wood, ALL the way across the entire top of the dresser and way too wide to repair by any method. This major damage had been covered by the runner, the lamps and the knick knacks. So . . . Usually, normally, sellers will be transparent about damage, flaws, chips, cracks etc., and then it's up to the buyer to move forward with the purchase or not. Because the damage was so extensive, I did not think the dresser could be transported without breaking completely in two. Because the damage was hidden/concealed, I felt deceived. I pointed this out to the staff, who launched into their "no refunds" spiel before I could even finish my sentence. I was rather abruptly offered to the "opportunity" to leave the dresser (and my $400) behind if I no longer wanted it. Still, I extend Kudos to Twice Is Nice for serving seniors in need!! Thank you to the volunteers who offer their time. Thank you to the folks who donate. If an item is damaged, you don't have to attach flashing lights or a neon sign, but it's not "nice" to cover it up, then pile it high with multiple heavy items making the damage almost impossible to detect until too late to make an informed purchase decision. read more

Great place for finding used quality clothing, books, furniture, and knickknacks. They have two locations, but soon, they are moving to a BIG place! Parking can be an issue, but that is all of this town. read more

GREAT STORE, unreal how fast items sell, and the reason is they are really good items. Bought a NEW piece of a sectional sofa that the owner did not need, extremely inexpensive, and extremely happy. There is another of this same name nearby. Purchased a solid round Lazy Susan that had a gray mark on the top, used an alcohol swab to remove, done, perfect for 7.00. A hand made pottery bowl for 10.00. Two great shops in the same area. Five stars, and the employees are extremely kind, and helpful. read more

Wow! This place gets all the stars for great customer service. Upon arrival I was greeted immediately, told about the sales, and chatted briefly about the merch. Contrary to how some boutique thrift stores can be, the ladies here were very nice! I was impressed with their wall to wall selection of staple and vintage clothing items. The curation of this place was a nice mix of estate/heirloom pieces that ranged from tweed jackets, wool skirts, silk blouses, to an ample selection of accessories for both men and women. There were even a few formal wear dresses for black tie events or weddings. The quality was still top notch. I was also impressed with their men's tie selection, noting that there was one from Oscar De La Renta (very cool). Overall, a good variety of clothing for both men and women. The furniture/kitchen/art/textile/book selection was fair but not as extensive as their clothing. I did also note a beautiful Persian rug for sale in their entrance way. All in all, I would definitely recommend checking this place out. Based on my conversation with the sales associate, they tend to bring in new (well, "new" being relative as it is a gently used shop) items frequently. The pricing is reasonable, the parking is easily accessible (there is a lot right in front), and the store is located in the shopping center off of Preston Ave. Happy hunting! read more

I visit Charlottesville frequently as my son goes to UVA. 2 years ago I was told about this thrift shop and had to stop in. The merchandise was amazing, the store was absolutely beautiful and my sales girl who was "someone in charge' was so delightful, helpful and charming. They were having a customer appreciation event and they were serving complementary beverages and hors d'oeuvres: which even made the shopping that much more fun. I felt like I was in a select boutique in NYC .And the prices were terrific. I left with bags of clothing for me, my son and my husband. Also some great jewelry and good books. I have shopped there several times in the last couple of years while visiting my son at UVA. Unfortunately, I have been back twice in the last 2 weeks and the store is so different. The sales staff was rude and not knowledgeable of the merchandise or the mission of their non profit. Customer service was non existent. A lot of the items on the floor were not priced and the apparent manager on duty had zero knowledge regarding these items and was dismissive of me when I ask for pricing ; Therefore I was not able to purchase about 8 items that I sincerely wanted. Really?? I was so disappointed. The store was disorganized, dirty and honestly not a place that I would ever visit again. I do not know what happened or if management changed (Which Obviously it did) It was a great store giving back to the community but sadly to say that has all changed. I LOVE this place. The staff is kind as kind could be, and helpful too. It's just like shopping from a family home. It's almost addictive to keep up with Twice Is Nice, as their items are on constant turnover. I've found designer clothes and designer knick knacks from Vince Camuto pants all the way to a very rare Tiffany&Co keyring...and the prices for those things are just unreal--affordable for everyone! The biggest positive of all is that the store is run solely on donations, and their profits go directly to JABA, which helps to support elderly communities in Charlottesville. Shopping here is just as much a good deed as it is fun. How could it possibly be better! I have a blast every time I visit. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. read more

My review is regarding their clothing. They have a very small selection, but very nice people work here and the prices are reasonable. You could browse through in 15 minutes or so and be on your way, so it's worth checking here every so often. I found a dress that is very Halston/Calvin Klein high fashion-looking and paid only $11. Clothes are organized by size and color. read more
