This store is just a rip off. A few days ago my best friend and I went in to seek them some jeans for a little extra cash. The jeans we brought were only name brand (i.e. Hollister, Pacsun, American Eagle) and were for sure in good condition. So we gave them the jeans and they told us that it would be an hour wait, so of course we decided to look around. While we looked it was surprising to see clothes that were clearly outdated, dirty, and were not brands that should have been accepted. ( Walmart and those cheap clothes you get from no name stores in the mall) When we went back to see how much we had earned for our jeans, the girls were very disorganized and could not find our order. After it was found, we learned that they were only accepting 1 out of the 10+ pairs that we had brought. Aside from this we were only given $10 for the jeans that they kept.That pair was also the one pair that my best friend wore the most. The girl giving us the money had a snark look on her face as to say "haha too bad" which definitely did not go over well with me. My friend and I decided to keep the remaining jeans and try out the store in Chantilly. Overall we were extremely dissatisfied with the store and its employees. Most of the clothing that's accepted now looks worn. The quality of the clothing that's coming in is low. Far as customer service it's okay for what is it. However there is a new for improvement such as customers over hearing personal conversations. read more

Clothes are all small and medium sizes. What is left is size 1 3 5 etc. will offer to buy your clothes which is nice. plus not enough cashiers so you wait alot.no carts so your arms kill you. read more

I would give this place a negative rating if I could. The workers are absolute snobs that make uncalled for remarks about the clothing they're going through while customers are walking around in the store. It's super uncomfortable and unprofessional. I never leave any bad reviews, because I am a very understanding person. However, the immaturity I experienced at this establishment is enough to make me never want to return again. The employees of this location are EXTREMELY rude!!!! They took an hour to barely look through my clothing I brought in for sale (5 items) and kept telling me it 20 minutes more every time I asked and had terrible attitudes. Then they barely looked at my clothes before saying the tags were all too old, these clothes were purchased this year from places like Charlotte Russe, Macy's and Khols and it took them wasting my time for over an hour to tell me this. They also ignored me twice when I asked for a dressing room and were over all acting like me and my friends were not even good enough to be there. read more

I like this place -we'll sorted & organized -have found great workout clothes for great prices-I am in my late 40s so much of the merchandise is not for folks my age but definitely a go to for me for workout tops/running shorts etc -my teen daughter finds a lot here. read more

All my items wear only slightly worn I probably wore them no more than 3 times. A lot were in brand new condition. I had a lot of big named brands. One thing was still in its original bag and still had the price tag on it. And they wouldn't take any of it. read more

As a fashion major, and someone who works retail, I completely understand the dynamic of cost, mark up, and profit. With that said though, Platos told me they would sell the merchandise for approximately 1/3 of the original retail and then give me 1/3 of that and that sounded reasonable. I was perfectly fine with that. I brought in bags full of barely used and pretty new Guess, J. Crew, Banana Republic, and Bebe along with some Boutique brands. When I went back to pick up the money as well as the merchandise they didn't want, I was appalled to see their itemized price list of what they had selected. A 100% silk Banana Republic dress that I purchased for $125 two years ago they wanted to buy from me for $4. I did not expect to make a fortune but I should have made more than $4 for that dress based on their supposed system. I also had a pair of really nice printed J. Crew shorts that I bought last summer for $90 that were from the J. Crew Designer Collection, they were going to give me $3 for those. Their computer system is clearly designed to give people absolutely nothing in return. A computer doesn't go shopping, it doesn't feel the quality of the merchandise it's pricing, and it doesn't know the different price points of specific brands. Even if they had just given me $5 for each of the 13 pieces they had selected I would have walked away with $65 and been satisfied even though it was still below what I should have gotten according to their rules. Instead they wanted to give me $47 for 13 pieces of name brand merchandise that individually each cost anywhere from $50-125. Instead I took it all back and will just donate it to charity. I have sold clothes to similar stores before and gotten a lot more in return; my issue is the fact that it is a generic computer pricing system and the sales associates must not be knowledgable about brands or quality. Thus, unless you are strapped for cash you're wasting your time and would be better off giving your clothes to people that truly need them. read more

I brought in clothes and shoes purchased within the past year by brands such as Express, VS Pink, Papaya, Steve Madden, XOXO, Forever21, and Under Armour. I was told out of the two bags of these items they wanted NONE of them because they were out dated, worn, and not brands they wanted. Many of these items had been worn under 5x. While I was waiting for them to look through my items, I overheard two employees gawking at and making fun of a shirt I had brought in. When my name was written on the board and I approached the counter to be rudely told my items were inadequate, this employee shoved my belongings back into my bags as if they were trash. As I scoped out what filled the hangers, I noticed items from Walmart, Kmart, and Dress Barn which all appeared to be relatively worn. I find it difficult to believe that my items did not make the cut. I have sold numerous times to the Chantilly location and have not had this problem once. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this unprofessional and rude location ever again. read more

I had been told to sell my clothes here. I put together a bag of Gap, J. Crew, Old Navy, Kenneth Cole, Coach, Puma, Nike, Adidas, American Eagle, Abercrombie, and Aeropostale. Out of all this stuff they only chose two of the Adidas items for a total of $4.90. I asked why not even the Coach purses. They informed me that they didn't think they were real! I think a lot of these reviews stem from bitterness from customers who were unsuccessful with selling their clothes there. Plato's is amazing if you are no stranger to thrifting at local consignment stores, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc; in fact, this place is a HUGE gold mine if you know what to look for when shopping there! Plato's buys gently-used brand-name clothing for teens and young adults. This is not a place that accepts and sells donations, or does consignment. They buy clothes from customers outright so you get cash on the spot. You will receive 30% of what they intend to sell it for, in cash, or if you want to trade in clothes for something you'd like to purchase (only within that same initial visit). While you may see spot some things like Ann Taylor or other more adult or "mature" targeted brands there, their goal is to buy clothing geared towards high schoolers (so no business casual, evening prom gowns, etc). They try not to buy anything from customers that is physically older than two years old (they are trained to check tags and can tell how old a garment is by the font or design of the company on said tag). They are looking for brands like Forever 21, American Eagle, brands from Pacsun, etc. "Cheaper" brands or less trendy/common/"basic" brands like Old Navy, Target, etc are sold for cheapest ($4-$8) while in-demand brands/stylish/expensive brands like stuff from Urban Outfitters, Free People, Franchesca's, J. Crew etc are obviously priced a little higher - which means as a seller, you make more. As both a seller and a shopper, I am a little biased towards the Manassas and Fairfax locations. I regularly get attentive customer service there, and they help me shop around and find things I might like around the store (there's virtually one of everything so it's worth sticking around and picking through their selection for an hour or two!) This is also a great place if you need a last minute outfit for an event like a party or holiday. If you are a stickler for money trying to make the most out of selling your super-fashionable clothes, try Plato's first, and if you don't like the offer they make, just decline it and try Poshmark or whatever. There is no need to talk poorly about them for doing their job and only selecting clothes that you're trying to sell to them that they're allowed to take. Don't come here with several containers or bags full of clothes expecting to make a fortune. If you don't want it anymore, why do you think they necessarily will? I really do love shopping here first when I need an outfit, especially since I often find new-with-tags clothes for very cheap. It's worth it to follow them on instagram and facebook as they post some of their nicest, newest clothes & deals for that day, and you can even call them and ask them to put stuff on hold for you. This place is terrific! We always find the best deals on purses and jeans here. The selection is good in most sizes and the quality is outstanding. They would have gotten 5 stars except the aisles are too narrow to make it easy to shop when you've got an armful of clothes. read more

I love this store and can't get enough of it!! I love the variety most, because you don't see that in department stores. They have so many shoes and pants! I love the layout and how it is organized so it's easier to find specific things. Also, there are always new things even though I go every week or so! Definitely a happy customer! read more

Based on 4 YELP reviews, I chose this Plato's closet to bring my items to for their review/purchase. I brought them over 150 items; most of them on hangers. However, prior to going there, I called them to ask about their process. Then I showed up and they told me it would take about 3 hours (fair timeframe given all I had brought in) so I told Shannon that I would be back the next day. This is a 40 mile RT for me from Oakton but I thought it would be worthwhile since I brought so many beautiful things in to sell. Now, Shannon looks like she's about 25 and I'm in my mid-50's...the ONLY thing she told me as I was unloading my VERY FULL TRUCK was that they didn't take 'high-end' items nor suits for work...mostly casual. Perfect I said as that's what I brought in. Most of my things were size 14/16 and from INC., Kors, Lane Bryant, Nine West, Macys...all mix-and-match pieces and everything was cleaned and on hangers; not thrown in a bag (although I did bring some t-shirts, scarves, handbags, lots of Munro American, Naturalizer shoes and all were in big garbage bags). Keeping my expectations low, I thought I might get a couple hundred dollars at the most - the rest I would donate. Imagine my disappointment when they only wanted THREE of my things and paid me $10.50!! The girl that helped me when I went back said she didn't go through my things; someone else did and that really they only take things that are for 'teens.' DO YOU THINK YOU COULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT WHEN I CALLED OR WHEN I WENT IN TO DROP MY STUFF OFF?? I spent more money in gas for two trips there than I got for my 3 t-shirts. This is what I consider poor training and lousy management. Thanks for wasting my time. If anyone reading this knows of a place where I can take very gently used clothes for people who might need them for a casual work environment, please respond to this review as I will gladly donate these items to a worthy cause. read more
