I've been to this Plato's Closet location a few times, and unfortunately, the customer service has consistently felt unwelcoming--especially if you're not white. I've noticed staff greet some customers while completely ignoring others. It doesn't feel inclusive or friendly, which is disappointing for a place that relies on regular shoppers. The pricing also doesn't always make sense. I saw a shirt still with the Ross tag for $6.99, yet Plato's was asking $10. How is that a better deal than buying it brand new? One of the staff, a girl with glasses and long hair, seemed visibly annoyed when I asked to see some perfumes. I understand retail work can be tiring, but basic courtesy goes a long way. read more

Well let me see .... Didn't want to leave a bad review so will be a so-so one instead. - lots of parking available - located in corner of shopping center/ easily located from GPS - no restroom but Starbucks close by - employees seemed friendly - first time customer discount given which was a nice gesture Drove 30 min to check this place out & Sell & when arrived, Sign stated BUY BACKs closed today -over heard it amight awhile until they buy back as they are looking over inventory. I Should have called 1st as the main reason we drove this way. - Store space comparable to San Mateo as both a smaller sized shop, inventory lacking though, SM Plato has over abundance of clothing for sale. Here the the Racks were almost bare in some aisles. Daughter only found 2 tops & A last minute hoodie, compared to others Platos where she's shopping forever .... Only found 1 item for my aging style - lol - lastly when we got home a few hours later, noticed sensor tags still on 2 items. Alarm did not ring when walked out & I'll blame daughter as she was the one who walked out with her goodies. Now Will have call & plan a day to return as we don't live in this area & I'm a Sunday stay home Person. Will prob be a trek to Come out this way after work. - I'm guessing this location is on its way read more

I've been selling with Plato's for a while now, I just noticed that their buyback has decreased. I sold 21 items in March receiving $72 and in September I sold 21 items receiving $61. It could be due to the nature of the items like shoes are worth more than shirts, but I've really only sold clothes... Their selection of stuff is very versatile for the fall right now! Lots of stuff you could use for costumes/concerts/date night/ trendy clothing & accessories!! I will say $6 a ring is too much. I missed it when it was $3 since it's all costume jewelry- minus a few pieces. Their prices have raised but the buyback is lower, doesn't quite make sense to me. read more

I wanted to give them more stars, but between their bad taste in music (who stops Kendrick to play Drake?!) and more than one piece of clothing that was worn out in an inappropriate place, I have to give them 3. Some good things: the place was clean, including the changing rooms. The woman in charge of the changing area was super efficient and noticed right away if you needed a room. They had a ton of pants that fit my 13 year old's style and their athletic wear (although almost only Nike and Lululemon) was priced reasonably. Some not so great things: The aforementioned holes in the clothes - it was not a fashion choice, it was on the booty seam of a pair of pants. and it wasn't small. It was easy to see so I'm not sure why they would put them out. Plus, their target style market was very specific. Definitely not much to choose from for anyone over 22 (unless you think you should still dress like you're 22 and then you probably shouldn't) or if you're not too into crop tops. Another thing of note, they put Shein products out on the floor, considering that the items are all put onto the racks with obvious careful selection, its disappointing to see low quality and possibly harmful articles of clothing for consumer purchase. Overall, good experience and I got what I needed, but it could do with some more variety in what they carry and someone with better taste in music making the playlist. read more

Plato's a decent place to sell your used clothing or to shop for used clothing. I've sold here once and the process was easy. You basically fill out a form, drop your bag of clothing off and they'll let you know when they're done going through all your clothes via text message. The process took around an hour on a Wednesday afternoon. I suggest you drop off the clothes and go run errands or grab lunch in the area. Perhaps not a fancy lunch because the offer you get from Plato's might not be enough to cover the bill. Out of the 20 items I brought to Plato's they bought 4 things. The offer totaled to $5.25. So around $1 per item. It is what it is. I took the offer and they paid me cash on the spot. This shop is geared towards high school students so I think they mainly want cool and trendy stuff. They're probably look for stuff like cool graphic or retro t-shirts and Levi's jeans etc. I won't recommend bringing in your rarely used khakis and button ups. I'm sure the season affects what they accept and turn down. Selling your jacket to them in the summer might not be a good idea either. Overall, the process was easy. Of course the payout could be better but it's better than nothing. read more

Went to the re grand opening of Plato's yesterday, I was super excited when I heard Plato's was finally re opening and decided to check it out on there first day. Before closing there store down last year i remember always finding affordable clothing from $2-$10 and having an amazing selection of clothing . That is not the case anymore. They have a specialized person who handles all the clothing now and boy have the prices sky rocketed. I understand that the store has to make money but these pieces get bought for $2-$5 for sure and they charge $24+ for a t shirt now because it is vintage. I wouldn't be upset if this was dedicated vintage store but no, this is Plato's a store where you supposed to get hand picked items for affordable pricing almost like a thrift store but now it's super expensive and overall just disappointing. I also understand that they get high end brands but to charge $250 for a purse is kind of absurd knowing they paid not even half of that . read more

preposterous lowball sold them 3 pairs of nike shoes which retail for over $90 each and were in fantastic condition, plus another 11 items mainly consisting of jeans that were around $70 each and received around $90 total for these items. service was alright. read more

I'd give ZERO stars if I could. They stole from me. Don't make the same mistake I did by ever stepping foot in there. I brought 2 bags of clothes and shoes Plato's Closet in Pleasanton to consign. The store didn't return one of my bags. They said they mistakenly gave it to someone else. It was in large Marshalls bag with lemons so whoever took it... seems sketchy. They called around and said they figured out who it was - and a few days later, the lady brought the bag back. (!!!) So l drove back a few days ago. But when I looked through it, 7 of the 12 pairs of shoes were missing and it was all of the new/expensive ones (Uggs, Rothy's, Madewell etc- retail was probably $1k). They were underneath the clothes and some of those were missing too, but I don't have "before" pictures of the clothes. only of the shoes. Since the shoes were under the clothes, they can't say that they fell out. Someone had to dig through the bag. And it was the expensive ones that were all gone. This lady called today and said the owner wasn't gonna do anything because I don't have any proof that they were ever brought to begin with. I filed a police report, and a report with the BBB. I do happen to have a picture of the shoes (I had an organizer help me so l had a pictures of certain things that went straight into the bags). I checked Yelp and there were at least 7? other people who had said the store had stolen things from them too. This store is based on TRUST and can't just steal peoples things...it's sickening they get away with it. I hope they start taking accountability, return my items and stop stealing ASAP. read more

I'm not sure why this location has so many negative reviews! I've come here 2x and have had a great experience selling clothing to them. All you do is bring your license and bags full of items.. they sort it and pick which ones they want to keep to sell then offer you an amount for it and you leave with cash!! Ive shopped here before and when I found out they buy clothing I was all over that idea. Went home and got 3 bags together of clothing that was trendy, in style and high end name brand like the website says. When I was there I dropped off the clothing and was told id get a text when they finished. I looked around the store and the selection was really shabby. Clothes were worn, cheap looking and was very disappointed. When I got the text to come back they decided on only 8 items out of like 100 items. If you want to sell your clothing I suggest not to come to Platos closet in Pleasanton. You bring exactly what they all just to be disappointed. Go else where. read more

Have had good experiences here over the years. - The staff are always super nice and helpful. - Good selection of jackets and dresses - Drop off times can vary, which is tricky to plan. Sometimes they have a sign on the door saying they've reached the limit for buying that day. - I brought 2 brown bags and they only offered to buy 2 things at a pretty low price. I opted to keep 1 and since I still sold with them, they offer 20% off my purchase of a couple other items I picked up (final sale though) I'm sure some people balk at pricing or what they take, but hey, they have rules and guidelines just like every other job! Don't hate the players hate the game. (And whatever they don't take I try to sell myself or donate...that's the second hand game baby!) read more

It has been amazing to see new ownership take over this beloved store! The new owner is so kind and all of the employees. I am so happy they were able to save it and the remodel is amazing. They were able to buy 20 ish of my items for $100, which is better than just donating if you are looking for some cash. I am so happy to see the hours will stay open decently later, so I can do some shopping after work. This is one of my favorite places to shop and I've found some great things over the years. I cannot wait to shop once it is reopen! read more

To be fair the workers in there are friendly and so I would say good customer service. But as far as "the selling your clothes" don't bring anything That's worth a lot of money they will not give you even close to half of what it's worth. Several times I have brought brand new nice clothes there they didn't take them. And when I took a look around the store I was confused by the selection, because I had nicer things that I brought than most of the clothes in the store and they didn't take it . I won't be selling clothes here again because I feel like they ripped me off, cant speak for any of the other locations than this one. Hope this helps someone read more

It's been 7 years since I've updated my review. A lot has changed since then lol. I've been selling here on and off for years and never had an experience that was absolutely terrible, or outright bad. I still have a fairly decent experience here. I've seen some reviewers state that this store is very picky about clothes and have not had much selling. I definitely agree, but every time I go here, they do end up buying about 1/6 of my stuff for about $40-50 (10-15 items). You don't get a lot of bang for your buck, but it's better to get something back than nothing! Fashion is fickle, and I get they have to buy based on the current trends. I was a little surprised at some of the stuff they bought from me and some of the stuff they passed on. For example, they bought a F21 floral dress from a few years ago, but passed on a new-with-tags Victoria Sport matching sports bra and legging set from a few months ago. So weird, but then again I don't have access to the current trends that are selling so who am I to judge lol. Honestly, whatever I don't sell here, I can easily sell it on Mercari or Poshmark. And whatever doesn't sell there, will sometimes sell here. It's a bit of trial and error, but I never have a terrible experience selling and I'm not a very "small" lady either. They seem to take whatever is trending *this week*, so whatever you may not sell this week, you could possibly sell it again next week or the week after. read more

Terrible service here. The girls are very rude and nasty. They don't care about anything except themselves and they chit chat all day long and ignore customers. They don't make things clear and they respond very negatively and rudely. I would not recommend coming to this Plato's, don't even waste your time. Go to Pacifica or San Mateo. Specifically the girl with orange short hair and the blonde girl were very rude. They should really hire older adults who know what their doing and know how to act. read more

I feel this particular store is "off". Is it a front? I don't know but here is my observation from hanging around there waiting for them to look at my stuff. 1. Ugly worn clothing and shoes (super dirty and used) 2. Terrible crap brands (Target, Walmart) 3. Unhappy, stressed and frustrated sales people 4. Buyers are too young and super inexperienced. No clue. 5. Those brands they say they "love" they had close to none in the store. It's crap. (Is there an external business going on? Possibly selling on the internet?) I would not buy anything there. After waiting for about 1 hour and 45 mintues when they told me it would be 35 minutes, I asked them to give me my stuff back. I no longer wanted to sell my clothing to them. As another buyer mentioned, nothing about this place makes sense whatsoever. Honestly, don't waste your time. I have not sold here in a while but this review is solely off of buying from them and their inventory. Understandably the higher end name brands like Jordan's, Nikes are priced higher but the condition of a few of the items don't always match the price point when there's obvious flaws to the shoes. (Those are the ones that typically stay on the shelves until price mark downs) Would like to see a little cheaper price point for the winter wear like jackets/hoodies. Can still get plenty of other great stuff for reasonable prices. Staff is super friendly. Wish there was a little more perks/discounts for return customers on the reward system. I came in with 2 large bags of clothes and purses. They only took 8 of the 20 something items. I made over $40 bucks from it. Yea, underpriced, but I didn't expect much. They don't take donations of rejected clothes. There's a donation bin at the 7-11 down the street. The staff were friendly. this is probably the worse Plato's I've been to. Service, layout, selection, everything. The girls looked miserable and unhappy, making the place feel unwelcoming. It's very dark inside too, not much color. The racks are super empty like if they don't replenish on a daily. Location of each section is also very random and very small selections. Racks had like 5 pairs of shoe and tons of empty spaces. The clothes are very old style, like vintage y2k vibes which I get is popular with a portion of the youth but have more recent styles as that is what Plato preaches. The vintage vibe is overbearing. The staff especially makes the vibe feel very off. They just seem tired, bored, unenergized, dressed very lazy. read more

This store is SERIOUSLY going downhill. First of all, the new selling policies are completely ridiculous. They have limited it to only accepting sales on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with only 36 sellers allowed each day. Not only has this caused lines out the door for selling and longer wait times, but their racks are half empty due to the lack of clothes they are now getting! I used to be able to walk out of the store with a pile of clothes in my hand, now I can find maybe one or two items. We believe the employees need to be better trained to buy a wider variety of items, rather than just things they like, or that would fit them. Shockingly, the workers passed on many trendy items we attempted to sell, such as vintage Nike, Brandy Melville, Lululemon, Converse, Vans, Levi, Lei, and one very cute NWT unopened pink floral swimsuit from Bright Swimwear. And don't even get me started on the music these employees are playing, which is likely deferring customers and sellers as well. Don't get me wrong, they were very nice girls, but it's clear by the clothes they showcase on manikins and their Instagram that they are thinking more about themselves than the success of this business. read more

I guess if you want some quick cash it's fine. I brought about 12 clothing items and lots of jewelry and a small bag. Two younger women were working the counter on a Monday afternoon. I made sure to call ahead to ask if they were buying. They bought 3 dresses (one from madewell that retailed $140), two pairs of earrings, and a brandy Melville skirt for $20. I was expecting more honestly. One of the dresses I was going to sell for $12, but decided to sell here last minute. You probably have more luck selling online yourself. They told me around 30 min but they took under 20 to process them. They just take your name and number and that's it. read more

I never write reviews but for the sake of other people to get aware of this crab, theft place in Pleasanton I dropped them off one huge 36x40 box of clothes majority of my tops and dresses were with their original tags and one big Nordstrom bag full of my high heels and my children's sneakers. I didn't know honesty had completely vanished from this place they stole all of my clothes and told me that they donated them because I couldn't pick them up on time due to having COVID-19 & I called & said I was positive for COVID-19 they told me to call them when I'm tested negative When I called back... They told me the workers didn't know they sent it for donation, the employees are a bunch of young girls they don't what they are doing the way they took & handled my drop I see how airhead & immature they are. read more

I've sold here twice and it's not worth it. The first time, I didn't get a text saying they were done with my items so I ended up waiting a few hours more than needed. Only reason I gave 2 stars is because the employees were nice. A lot of people complain they don't give you much (which is true) but that's understandable they're marketed towards teens/young adults who don't have much money, and it's better than nothing. However, they definitely overprice the cheaper brands (shein, f21, etc.). Both times, they barely took any items. I'm not sure if they have a policy limiting how much they can buy from each person but that seems to be the only explanation. If so, they need to make it more clear. They posted on their Instagram story less than 24 hrs before I came in on very specific items they were buying, and they pretty much only took one type of item (knit sweaters). But they said they were buying outerwear, athletic leggings, accessories, denim, and way more which I brought in (all name brand such as Nike, Urban Outfitters, Free People, true vintage, etc. in barely used condition). The bin I brought in the second time was fairly large, but when I got home, I realized they didn't even look through the whole bin because some of the items underneath were the same way I left it. If they didn't want to or don't have time to look through the whole bin, that's fine but they need to say so so I don't waste my time bringing in tons of items. The first time I shopped there the inventory was okay, on trend and good prices. The second time a few months later, all the inventory was not good. All the items looked exactly the same, overpriced, & there were a lot of lower end brands (walmart brands, shein, etc.) which there's nothing wrong with, but it makes me wonder why they didn't take some of my higher end stuff they claim to buy. A lot of it was VERY out of style as well (not even the trendy Y2K style). They seemed to be lacking a lot of shoes and mens' outerwear which I brought in and they didn't take.
