Ah, Plato's. I'm sure everyone has had an underwhelming experience here AT LEAST once. I'm going to divide this review up into two parts, one based on selling your own clothing, the other based on buying clothes. The selling experience: I don't think anyone should go to Plato's with the expectation that they will buy all of your clothes, or that you'll make good money if they do buy. They might be able to give you enough money to cover a tank of gas, but that's about it. I never have high hopes when I bring in a crate of clothing to sell, and I cannot stress enough that you shouldn't either. They have very strict guidelines on what they can and cannot buy, so don't take it personally when an employee gives you most of your clothes back. The buying experience: Honestly, the word "misleading" sounds harsh, but is the best way I can sum up this shop. Their Instagram page is full of trendy clothing, but when you actually go to the store, they don't have nearly as much trendy apparel as they express on social media. The prices are good, and if you've got the time it's worth it to browse the racks for an hour. But moments of finding clothing that actually appeals to your taste are few and far between. I do enjoy coming here once a month or so to see if they've got any clothes that appeal to me. I rarely sell here, I only do so when I'm looking for a little extra cash. I empathize with the frustration of the many who come to sell and leave with a little less than they came with, mostly because upon strolling through the shop, it's hard to question why they wouldn't buy your clothes in the first place. read more

Where do I even begin. I walked in with 2 storage bags full of clothing- many items listed brands they were in search of.. I was told over 2 hours until it'd be looked at. I came home, 45 minutes away and got a text it was ready. Out if the likely 100 items I dropped off they took 3 items. One a lululemon piece, a pair of sweatpants, and a sweater that was clipped to a dress as it was a set. But they broke up the set and when I asked I received attitude with a response of "well then we didn't want it as a set.. so are you selling or keeping it?" Woah.. okay? I've always been underwhelmed with this establishment but I think this was my nail in the coffin. read more

I was excited to browse around for the clearance sale, but I found this store was honestly disgusting on the inside and I didn't want to stay for long. The whole place had faded carpets, dusty outdated photos hung up, dust in the corners, and overwhelmingly strong wall-plug ins to try to mask the scent of the store which really turned me off from wanting to stay and shop and gave me a headache. As I was looking for shorts I looked down at a massive yellow stain on the carpet of the store and was completely grossed out. I'm surprised this place stays in business with how unclean and unkept it is. I didn't expect it to be spic and span as it is a consignments shop, but I definitely wasn't expecting it to be this bad. They pay horribly for items. I sold 4 items for $7.50 and 3 items were new with tags. I went back to see what they were selling them for. One of the items is listed for $7 that I bought cheaper brand new on sale and with coupons. Overpriced items such as dirty Vans sneakers for $20 is nuts. You can find better deals on unused clothing at department stores with coupons than here. read more

Update: I tried again to sell some articles of clothing and shoes. They accepted a few things but when I asked for the breakdown of what each item would pay, I was appalled. They offered me $2 for a brand new dress from Guess (cost approx. $100 new) and only a few dollars for the other name-brand pieces that were in excellent condition. I ended up keeping the items. I did buy a couple things there that seemed like a good deal. But the clothes racks were SO full, it was impossible to really browse the store. read more

A wide selection of certain items of clothing but not a lot of sweatshirts. A boat load of short sleeves... but it's winter. Apparently they're stubborn when it comes to buying clothes off people as well. Clothes are pretty well organized though. read more

I think after this platos experience I'm done going there. while I didn't have to wait very long for my items to be reviewed, they barely took any of my items and turned down tons of brand new brand name items. What the heck?? What they offered me for the items they did take was down right insulting. I'd rather just donate than bother with that joke again. read more

Brought tons of almost brand new clothes here, with the tags still on, from the brands that they request. Mixed in the bag were a few really old, off brand items. They dug through the bag, passed up the new items with the tags on... ...and decided to keep a random t-shirt I purchased four years ago at the local Dollar General. I'm not making this up. Besides that, the girls at the counter were rude and loud. They advertise consignment, but prices are too high even for that. Most of the clothes are old, faded, stained, and smell like whatever house they originally came from. I hope whoever purchases the Dollar Store shirt enjoys it. I certainly enjoyed the $2.20 I got for it, as it provided a $1.10 net gain. *sarcasm* read more

HORRIBLE experience!! Will NEVER go back!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!! Waited for over 30 minutes for sales associate to finally get around to taking a 10 second look at the stuff I brought in, then she gave it all back to me saying it didn't align with the current trends in the store. I had designer shoes, never worn- looked no different than the shoes sold in the store. So angry that she wasted my time and couldn't just have taken a quick look when I first entered the store. read more

This place is kinda disappointing to put it mildly. They always say they want trendy brand names but then you bring them exactly that (tons still with tags attached) and they don't take any of it. And now they're looking for plus size clothing and every time I bring junior plus sizes in, they've never taken anything (a lot still new with tags). It's kind of ridiculous. I've brought regular juniors and plus size junior clothes there and what they pay you sucks. I've had better luck selling on eBay. read more

The girls that work there are nice, and I know they must follow corporate policy, but the things they pass up are ridiculous. They say they want nice brands (J.Crew, Gap) but don't end up taking any of those brands. Like other reviews say, they want old DEB and Hollister tops. That's all I ever see in there. I have brought in gorgeous, like-new items that get passed on as if they are old, worn out trash. If you are looking to get a fair price for your clothing, look elsewhere, giving to Goodwill is more satisfying. Or try ebay. read more

I will never go here again. Both my daughters only buy very high end fashonable clothes. used to work for Abercrombie and Fitch. we have taken brand new items with tags attached only few months old there and have been told they won't be taking any items. we look through the racks and there are ripped, dirty clothes older than 5 years. what kind of business are the running. then when they offer you anything its a few dollars. you can sell it for more at a garage sale. Don't shop there. disgusting business. read more
