Honestly, I think I'm in there more than anywhere else in town... okay, maybe second only to the coffee shop -- but still. Priorities. Recently one of the girls who works there asked, "Were you in here recently?" My response: "Yes... but you're going to have to be more specific." At this point I'm basically on a first-name basis with the clearance rack. This place is truly a magical hybrid of boutique, consignment shop, and small-town treasure hunt. They have clothes for kids, teens, and adults -- some new, some consignment -- and the consignment pieces are so pristine you'd swear the previous owner bought them, lovingly removed the tags, whispered affirmations over them, and then never wore them once. And it doesn't stop at clothing. Oh no. There's furniture, small appliances, baby items, exercise gear, bedding, health and beauty goodies (from really good brands, too). You name it, they probably have it. And if they don't today... check back next week, because the inventory changes constantly. One of my favorite things is how active they are on Facebook -- posting new arrivals, sale alerts, and little contests so you can plan your visit like a highly strategic shopping mission. If you live in or anywhere near Alden and you haven't been here yet, I don't know what you're doing with your life -- but I gently and lovingly suggest you redirect yourself to Under One Roof immediately. This week I called to retrieve only the new winter coats and they tell me there is no balance on my account - and they do not have them. They further went on to state, they had nothing "tagged" for me since last December.... you literally cannot randomly drop off items, you need an appointment which I had January 26, 2026! The owner had her manager call me, who I had spoke to about these coats twice. Since they take your items and you get no ticket, ...they win! Bad business practice. Whoever took these coats has some nice winter wear.

You have to monitor the owners Instagram feed in real time in order to prevent showing up and finding the "gone fishing" sign posted in the middle of the day. And usually there is not much warning even on instagram. This happens quite often. Goes along with the territory of being a small business owner I suppose. But there have been numerous times when I was about to head over there (or had already arrived) during the supposed business hours and discovered the shop was closed. I have not tried selling anything at this shop but was hoping to start soon. I will keep patronizing because the prices are fair, sometimes even a steal! And the clothes are in decent shape, if not excellent shape. Beware of parking! Buffalo parking police stalked me when I parked out front on Hertel to dash in real quick with my newborn on a 98°F day and issued me a parking ticket. I was peeved but I deserved the ticket. Just don't do what I did and think you can avoid hunting down a parking meter on a hot day with a baby in tow. Scout out parking ahead of time and pay!!

This shop sells lightly used baby clothes for cheap! I have bought items as low as a dollar. They also sell a few brand new specialty items - wubbanubs, rompers, hair accessories, and hats. It's a small place, so not overwhelming. Reminds me of a Plato's Closet for babies.

Today I decided to brave the dreaded left hand turn on Eggert to test my luck in Tonawanda. This place is wider than my old haunt, so points for quantity. Everything is sorted into catergories, yet I took the time to stroll through all the racks. Generally when I shop clothes I look to see if anything catches my eye instead of leafing through, especially if it has the color tag of the day. This store makes the plastic tether colored as well in case any of the tags accidentally get removed. Blue was the chosen child, at 50% off, and I found a few pairs of pants to try on, along with a sweater. You have to get permission to use the locked fitting rooms here. The peppy register girl let me in to a small room with the full length mirror on the door, a chair and a few wall hooks. I didn't have enough booty to fill the pants, and while they offer a returns rack, I took them back myself as I was passing through to get to the rest of the store. In the back they have housewares. I passed on a Mickey Mouse alarm clock (aesthetically great, but who uses analog these days?) and considered grabbing one of their numerous mugs (only second in bounty to the playpen of stuffies up for adoption) before just settling on the sweater that I had picked out. At the register I was pleased to find that my total came to three dollars and change. Sure, thrift stores are not as cheap as they used to be, and my change was rounded because pennies have been eliminated, but if you scour the racks you may find a great deal, used, or even new. They say one man's trash is another man's treasure, and I may have found a doubloon, but I'm still looking for the ultimate bounty.
