The place is sort of a mess. Firstly I went there to look at there clothes. And some of their offerings are slim pickings. Only started looking once and noticed alot of wear and tear in their shoes/clothes. I have been to other consignment shops and eek some of their items are not as great. I went to sell my new items that had the original tags. They took about 60 mins. And decide not to take any of my items. Why because they said they found stains and some of the items were not in this season. However I did buy them this past season. I took it up online on ebay and sold all of them for about 60 dollars. The girl there needs to get herself checked because she was rude. She just needed to say that it will not due 10 mins into looking at my bag, not keep me waiting their for so long. read more

I'm a student at PSU Abington, and I didn't have class so I decided to come here just to browse. As soon as I walked into the store I noticed a very strange smell. As I walked down the second rack of clothes, the cashier said "hi", and I replied "hello!" She then continued to say "that fake ass hi". Inconsistent, often an unpleasant experience. Sometimes the clothes they sell are reasonable and in good shape, but other visits I've found that a lot of clothing is very worn with pills, tears, and stains. They often blast inappropriate music, the kind you'd hear in a nightclub. It's clear that whoever is in charge here is not considerate of the average shopper's standards. read more

I handed in a bag of about 25 items (some brand new), was told it would be 15 minutes. walked around the store for over 45 minutes waiting for my name to be written on the done list. Finally I asked what was going on, she gets my stuff, says im done and tells me they cant take ANY of my items. talk about wasting my time. Seems to me like they glanced at my bag, put it on a shelf, and forgot to write my name. Half the clothes hanging in there look dirty and not in style. Worst place ever. Employees ignore you...sorry I wasn't dressed like a hipster model today...my bad!! You bring in nice designer clothing and they give it back to you. Yet the crap I've seen in there is nasty, I've seen stained clothes, ripped clothes and purses that are dirty and cheap. I brought a pair of VS Pink sweatpants and they turned them away...I know for a fact my sweats were not stained! That store uses a lot of air freshers that you can smell them before you walk in, that's to hide the stink of the clothes they sell. Today it smelled like moth balls in there today...really??!? And their cheap purses that you can buy at Walmart?!! Sure let's sell them but not my designer bags. Those that know me, know my obsession with high end bags... I won't ever give them my business and I will make sure to tell all my friends to steer clear of that place too! Thank you Plato's Closet for being the corniest bunch of employees I ever saw!!! I read the reviews before mine and I was scared to go, but my experience was great! As soon as I walked in, the employees were very helpful. They told me it would be ready in 15 mins which it was. Don't bother taking your clothes there to sell them. I will never come back. This is the fourth time I've tried taking brand new stuff to them. I had three pairs of forever 21 that were barely worn because they were too small and a pair of wet seal jeans which their sign said they needed girls denim. I had a few shirts and one dress all worn maybe a handful of times but nothing was stained or ripped or anything they all looked new. But again they won't take anything. And if there really expecting juicy couture and Michael Kors named shit it's ridiculous because they'll give you a low ball number. The place is a joke. I've even purchased forever 21 items and wet seal items from them and the fact they won't take anything? Plato's Closet Willow Grove is really well organized and the staff are very friendly. I've brought items in, and though they can't always accept everything, they are willing to explain why and even go as far a taking out specific garments to use as examples. In response to some of the other comments: It's dissapointing when they can't take as much as I'd like, but after looking through the aisles I see that they have high standards and want to provide practically new, gently used clothing for their customers! I've been there as other customers were upset with how little the staff could take, but it's good to remember that this is a teen and young adult store! If you bring in clothes with tags yet the brands are more mature, they probably won't accept them. Anyways, I was impressed and will continue to shop at Plato's Closet Willow Grove! read more

I took a bag of clothes and some shoes and they didn't take any of it. I had mostly Free People clothes in there and some had tags on them and they said they couldn't take them. Like really, but they take this girls cheap ass looking shirt like it came from Kmart. I also had a pair of brand new Steve Madden boots that I never wore, but they didn't take them because they said they look really worn. These dorky girls that work here have no sense of style. I came here on a Sunday evening about 30 minutes before closing with 2 full trash bags containing new boots, hand bags, jackets and accessories. These were the items I chose to try to sell, because an associate told me that accessories, shoes and jackets were what they currently needed. Since I came so close to closing time they were unable to go through the bags until the next day. This was fine with me, because I figured I would just come back whenever I had time (didn't feel like lugging the bags back and forth). I was told I would receive a text first thing the next morning with an upstate on my merchandise. The next day I received a text around 1pm saying my bags were ready. I called to see what items they were purchasing and for how much. I was told they were unable to disclose any information on the phone. I did confirm with 2 different reps during 2 different calls that they were indeed purchasing some things, but just couldn't tell me what or for how much. I was also told if i didn't come in that day they would not be able to give me cash, only store credit. Since I work, have a toddler and was not previously informed of this I was annoyed, but figured whatever- rules are rules. I told them I would try to make it in that evening, but was unlikely and just donate whatever they didn't purchase. I finally made it into the store about 2 weeks later. They had no record of any of the things they purchased or any record of store credit I was due. I even showed them the text I received confirming the order. Basically, the store did not fully disclose their policies (I know there's a form I signed and should of thoroughly read) and have employees who are not trained to properly add credit to a customers account. Plato's closet essentially just "took" 2 bags of items that were most likely worth hundreds of dollars and lost my credit in the system or never entered it the first place. So, I gave them my things without ANY kind of payment. Btw, I saw a pair of MY boots on display, for sale in the store. I told the associate as much, but because of poor documentation I was unable to prove they were my boots. I'll never bring anything here or shop here again. The prices aren't that great. There's another consignment store in the area with a much better selection and prices. read more

if you're shopping it's not too bad but if you're selling it is the worst experience ever. So much of the items hanging in their store are super worn, old, torn, etc but when I came in with items I haven't even worn to sell they said the items are used and the employees were the most obnoxious and rude people ever; at willow grove and landsdale. I have attempted to sell items Atleast 3 times at different locations (twice at willow grove location)and have been offered minimal dollar amount $12-$17 and the employees have barely looked at my items. I am writing this I case this is an ongoing issue at several plates closets. This last attempt, I carefully chose items which I knew were in season and on the hot list (per the website). I had several pairs of jeans which were not taken. I understand that stores won't accept outdated jeans nor accept items which they have an abundance of. However, while i surveyed the store as I waited, I took notice that there were barely any non blue jeans in my size, which is a 9/10/11. I wanted to sell a pair of all white Jeggings, floral print skinny jeans and several pairs of blue jeans. None of which were taken. I think it makes sense to accept jeans in sizes which are not in abundance in the store. I also wanted to mention that it appears as though the employees aren't actually looking thru the clothes. When I questioned why some items weren't being bought, the employee gave me the standard line of " we're at capacity for jeans and long sleeve tops." "Some Things are out of date" I had no long sleeve tops. I had blouses, none were long sleeve. I had jeans, in sizes which were not overly produced in the store as well as different patterns of jeans which were not seen in the store. I understand not accepting flares of boot cut. Staff is very unfriendly and snobby. Would not buy any of my son's American Eagle clothing, stating "style issues". Hah! There is some real junk hanging in that store. Took tons of North Face, Victoria's Secret, A.e, other name brands, etc gently worn & still "in style", they told us it'd be about 10 minutes to look over everything. So we walked around waiting, went up in about 20 minutes & they still hadn't, presumably, looked over my things. So waited another 20 minutes & finally they asked for my name & said very quickly "oh yeah we're not taking anything. " Obviously the girl had looked over the items within the 45 minutes & knew they weren't taking anything but didn't bother to say anything, even though I was right up at the desk waiting, for what was supposed to be a 10 minute wait. I took my clothes elsewhere & got $65 for it the same day!! Didn't take it personally that they didn't take anything, I went in expecting that they wouldn't take anything, I was more turned off by the service. Had the same experience in the Maple Shade location. Good for buyers, not for sellers. read more

This store is such a joke! I went in 2 weeks ago looking for a dress and wedges for my upcoming vacation. I found THE perfect outfit, only problem was the zipper on the dress was broken and only 1 wedge. The staff informed me they have a service to fix the zipper free of charge and would look for the other wedge. Awesome! I thought. Waited a week to hear back, so I stopped in to check on the status. The girl who helped wasn't sure because of school starting, but remembered me when I originally came in for them. She explained that the daytime manager, Carl, would have better knowledge of when the dress would be returned. So I decided to call and speak to Carl. He is a rude, ignorant manager. I explained the situation and his reply was "The dress was returned a week ago and placed back on the rack. I don't have time to deal with the shoe now because we have a HUGE sale going on and I'm not making anyone go searching in the back for 1 shoe, but you are more than welcome to come and search the store to see if we still have them." WTF? I'm a paying customer who was willing to pay for the overpriced items because I wanted them badly and you're going to tell me no. This store has changed so much. The barely take my clothes anymore and always say they are overstocked. I see many items with stains, destroyed or just wack! How is it that you don't accept my items that are gently used or have tags on them. Not to be rude but The girls at the register that they have sorting through the items have no style themselves.. so how can they say what's "stylish" or "trendy". Also many of their items are overpriced in my opinion. Today was my first time coming here in sometime but I won't be back especially with a store like primark in the willowgrove mall now. They have brand new items never worn for much cheaper than platos. I left today and took my items to the Montgomery county location and sold many of my items. I will never return to this location! Just terrible! This is my third time taking good valuable clothing to Plato's Closet. Why I went back I have no idea but I was eager to get rid of clothing that I just don't wear anymore. I have always had a bad experience with this store. Before taking my clothing I first sorted my stuff by brand and took out any clothing that had holes or stains because they can be very picky about what they take in. I took a huge laundry basket full of brand name clothing along with one Coach hand bag, an Anne Klein bag, and two Tommy Hilfiger bags hoping to get a fair deal. I took the basket in,gave it to them, and looked around the store as they viewed my clothing. After looking around I went back to the counter and was told they can only except three things... The Anne Klein bag along with the two Tommy Hilfiger bags Only offering me $8 for all three things. Are you kidding me? I looked at the young girl and said "That Anne Klein bag is worth at least $90 ( of course I wasn't expecting to get near that much ) but she said " well we don't know the value of it". Well How do you sell things? I know they need to make a profit but they rip people off completely. Moving on to the clothing, they didn't take ANYTHING because the labels were just too old, well if you look around they are selling Hollister. I mean talk about an ancient, old, label. Not to mention some of their VS Pink is out dated, I know cause I use to own a sweatshirt that they were selling 6 years ago. Looking at my basket I don't even think they used two fingers to look at any of the clothing. Plato's closet is a very hypocritical store that does nothing but take advantage of the people that come in. My experience here was unbelievably ridiculous! I brought in a big bag of things to sell, about 30-40 items, and the one worker there said it would take about 20 minutes to look through my things. I walked around the store and picked a few things out and it had been more than 20 minutes so I asked a worker and she said my items were checked. She told me that they had "to pass on everything". I was so confused. She told me that there were minor stains and they weren't what they were looking for. But, while I was walking around the store, half of the items on the racks and the shoes were stained and ripped and had scratches on them! They didn't even feel empathetic. She didn't even say sorry or anything! Half of the clothes I brought in were exactly the same style as what was being sold in the store! I am so disappointed with my experience here and I will not be returning! I will be taking my business elsewhere and if I were you I would do the same!!! read more
