In this quaint part of town, I decided to take a pit stop and get a refill on water as well as drain the radiator. Plenty of shaded lot parking for a Saturday afternoon though fairly strong attendance of library patrons all the same. With parking down below, the library was up on the second floor with the front of the entrance decorated with tall red, blue, and yellow flowerlike installations. The library looks and feels inviting, warmly lit by sunlight peering in through the front windows. Sprinkled around are decorative pieces showing the local wildlife, mounted on the walls. Noise level was kept to a minimal, so it also felt like a great opportunity to just relax and getting some reading done. As for me, there was a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle near the center of the library that kept me occupied. read more

We love the Topanga Library- AMAZING staff, clean, beautiful library. A great resource for kids and adults.

*Started this back in October 2020, but I'm sure things are still great. I only came to this location since I was in the area this particular day, but I had some documents I needed printed. Thankfully, the library is now doing this free of charge, and I called to make sure they were uploaded properly for printing. Catherine (Katherine, Kathryn, etc.) was the one who answered the phone, and she directed me to someone else to do the printing. She was very polite to talk to over the phone. Actually, all the women I dealt with were SO NICE, especially since I deal with a guy who is an a**hole at the location over in West Hollywood that is much closer to me*. Why can't he take a hint from the staff over here, hidden in Topanga? Although I highly doubt I'll be out this way again, I sure would not mind being so since I had such a good experience here. Can't they transfer over to West Hollywood? No, but everything I needed printed came out perfect, and was delivered in a timely manner. I could not ask for anything more. I really like this library for its cleanliness, extensive book collection, and spacious layout. However, when I visited the kids' area today, there was a mom, a child, and what seemed to be a tutor having a loud, continuous lesson. The tutor didn't stop talking the entire hour we were there. Another mom reading a book out loud to her kids . I noticed the front desk person nearby and assumed they would say something, as they usually do in libraries, but he didn't seem to care. As we were leaving, I asked if this was the norm, and he said, 'Oh no, so sorry, I didn't even notice.' I left with a massive headache, very annoying , libraries aren't day cares. Is like the folks that take their kids to the movies and ruin the movies for the rest of us. read more

This is a great place to enjoy s combination of peace and solace. The library is a good size and has many items to fulfill any reading needs. If you are looking to bring a good book and enjoy the view this is the library to visit. The selection of books that are available can assist with any reading needs. The staff is helpful and will assist your needs as well as answer any questions. Parking is on their garage and is usually a non issue. Keep on mind, you have city and county libraries and as a result require separate cards. read more

I highly recommend signing up for the Los Angeles county library! This is not the LA public library... But the LA County Library. If you sign up, you can get free tickets to various museums throughout the Los Angeles area! That's how we discovered in this location. While this library is not very big, it is very fun and full of positive energy. There are several colorful sculptures throughout the library. My son loves going here because they actually have toys he can play with. He has a lot of fun with that. It is very clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I also have a self check out which is very convenient. When coming up Topanga Canyon blvd, be prepared to take a left into the library parking lot when you come around the bend... I missed it my first time because it kind of sneaks up on you. read more

This is a fairly new library so is not yet crowded or noisy, at least when I was there. Beautifully designed and eco-friendly. I chattered with one of the checkout clerks. She told me that the trees that were knocked down when the library built were used to make the furniture that sits outside. If that's the case, five stars all the way. I haven't been to this library in the mornings so I don't know if it gets loud. The evenings are very peaceful. One of the librarians seem very nice. As I was exploring, he smiled at me when I walked by. Great place to concentrate and get work done. Very clean too. No offensive smells here. read more

This library is beautiful, woodsy, clean and among the trees which is perfect for Topanga. Perfect for anywhere. Lost two stars b/c the most important quality for a library is 'Quiet'. If you need quality study time bring your Noise Cancelation Earphones. People don't even try to whisper. Otherwise it's amazing! read more

This is a tiny library and that's okay because since it's the county, you can request any book in the system. The main thing is that the staff and volunteers are creative and committed to making the library a center for the community. The programmed events are always intriguing and the head librarian, Oleg Kagan, is wonderfully open to suggestions re: new events and activities that fit in with the quirky Topanga lifestyle. This is such a beautiful library with a quiet study room you can reserve for an hour. If you have studying and need quiet this is not the place for you. The kids and the parents are talking for loudly giving no reference at all to the people trying to study. This is really a community center with activities and computers. Once I figured this out, I skipped the frustration and futile complaints and found somewhere else to work. read more

This is the best library around! Staff is wonderful and very friendly. Books and DVDs are super clean and new. I understand that there can be some noisy kids at times. This isn't a huge library. My kids know to use a "quiet" voice when they are there. Topanga is a great community and is very lucky to have this library. It would be great if adults with little kids can continue to teach them about library etiquette so that others can work here if necessary. I give the library 5 stars for: great staff, new books and dvds, cleanliness, great programs and fantastic art and children's programs throughout the year! Keep up the great work! read more

Too much noise.like study in road everybody talk in loud voice.I don't recommend it for study

I would love this library, if it weren't for the absolute chaos after 3 PM and lackluster response from the staff to the out of control noise. This seems to be more of a daycare center than a library. Almost everybody who comes here to actually use the library for its supposed purpose- to read and study or work- seems to comment on this, and I am often exchanging irritated glaces with other patrons as someone yells into a cell phone or a child runs screaming past, totally unimpeded. The Topanga kids are not learning library etiquette at all here, as they are never told to keep it down as they shriek and chase one another through the library, throwing things, having loud conversations, etc. On more than one occasion I have asked a staff member if they have a policy on this and if they can please enforce some sort of library etiquette, but they don't do so. One staff member told me they don't have a policy on noise in the library. Wow. How times have changed! I'm not even that old, but when I was a child I was taught to use my "library voice" (a whisper) and to respect what was once a sanctuary of quiet for the community. I don't see how anybody could actually read a book in this place. As a previous reviewer said, this is like trying to study on a busy road. AWFUL. I'm writing this here right now, fed up as once again, someone trying to work at the next table says,"This is the noisiest library I've ever been in." The worst part is that there really isn't any other quiet place in Topanga for someone like me to work. I live in a chaotic household, and as an online teacher, I need somewhere local I can concentrate on my work. It really stinks that I have to drive all the way to the Palisades library for a well-managed, quiet public library, when this library is literally 2 minutes from my house. I hope they get it together and change their objective to providing the public with a library rather than a daycare. read more
