I'm a huge fan of açai bowls and all versions of them (green, pitaya, etc.). Playa Bowls in Urbanspace is a great option for them. The fruit and bases are always fresh and delicious, and I've always had a great experience every time I've gone which tends to be every couple of weeks. They also have seasonal specials that are well thought out and great additions to their regular menu. The workers are friendly, and I'm sure they all know me by now which is only mildly embarrassing. I've only ever had an issue getting my order once, but even that wasn't that bad. Since it's inside a food hall, it can get crowded in the area and the line can get a bit lost. Overall it's loud, but there's a good amount of seating if you decide to stay. There are also lots of TVs playing some assortment of sporting events. read more

Açaí bowls in the Grand Central Terminal! For $18 you can get a bowl of açaí, packed with blueberries and strawberries. The açaí is good. Nothing special. There are so many bowl options with bases of acai, pitaya, a green kale and banana combo, coconut, banana, mango, and more, plus seasonal specials. My current favorite is the Pacific bowl, which has the green base and is topped with strawberries, bananas, almonds, chia seeds, and honey. The bowls are blended and assembled well here, and the fruit is really fresh. Terrible customer service and terrible drinks. I spent $11 on a smoothie that just tasted like blended banana. I got the aloha with banana, pineapple, and mango. With there tagline of "Welcome to pineappleland" I thought it would taste like pineapple. I stood back in line for another 15 minutes to ask if there is something else that they could do. The manager/ shift lead told me anything else would end in a charge and that i was stuck with what i had. To remake it would cost another entire smoothie. To request something cheaper would cost the new item. I never bring back an item or leave a review, but the experience encouraged me so. So I think Playa is like the McDonald's or a.k.a. the fast food version. In my opinion they have the same thing as everyone else when it comes to health bowls but I find their stuff just way too sweet! Also when their açaí melts it becomes thin liquid where others I've had remain thicker. I tried 3 playa locations Nanuet which was the best of the 3 and the 2 other midtown NYC locations in Urbanspace including this one. Both açaí bowls from Urbanspace had a slight freezer burned taste to them. For the sticker-price-shock you can get on these bowls they'd better be perfect or not even attempt it. I didn't understand the Grand Central part of the name because it's 4 or more blocks away, but who cares. The average price is about $8 to $13 for most bowls. I got the Dragon Berry Pitaya Bowl that comes with strawberries, blueberries, granola, and honey along with the base mix of a pitaya blend made of banana, pineapple, and coconut milk. it was OK for a granola smoothy but it was also a lot and I couldn't finish it all and again it's not my lunchtime regular meal anyway. Beyond Acai, Coconut, Banana, and Chia Pudding bowls they also of course have lots of different smoothies and juices too, if you are on a more liquid mood. I'm so glad that pitaya bowls are finally making a scene in New York. That, plus good Hawaiian BBQ, is one of the things I crave most from SoCal so I'm happy that NYC is finally adapting to the scene. Unlike açaí bowls, pitaya bowls are made with frozen dragonfruit base which is less sweet and has a beautiful pink color. Add some berries, mangos, granola, honey, etc, and you've got an amazing, light, cold meal good even in the middle of a snowstorm in my opinion. Even better, this place delivers with DoorDash, makes this place even better. Portion sizes are quite good, which I'd expect even the heftier price compared to other health bowls in NYC. Also have quite a few pitaya bowl options including one with berries and my go-to, the electric mermaid. The woman before me had her order done wrong and I assumed she was overreacting. I ordered a half and half bowl. I received a full açaí bowl and my blueberries had mold. I'd recommend reevaluating they pace you work at and listening to your clients or asking follow up or confirmation questions. Also you don't glob Nutella on.
