One of those places that just feels right. The vibe is relaxed, friendly, and effortlessly beautiful. The beach itself is clean and wide, perfect for long walks, sunset watching, or just sitting and doing nothing for a while. What really stands out is the energy -- you'll see surfers, volleyball games, cyclists, families, and people just enjoying life without rushing. The Strand is great for walking or biking, and there are tons of solid food spots and bars nearby, whether you want a casual coffee or a sunset drink. It's less chaotic than some nearby beaches but still has plenty going on. Easy to spend a whole day here and leave feeling refreshed. Definitely one of my favorite beach spots in LA. read more

Hubbers and I had a free day and decided to drag a couple of pups with us on a field trip. "Where" was the question... ... and Hermosa Beach was the answer! We love coming through here, not for the sand or the water, but for the view, bar and grub hopping. Coming through on an off-season midweek late lunch, we weren't surprised to find no crowds - which we kinda liked. (We've been here many times, mostly during weekend peak times and offff...) We didn't miss that at all. There are tons of cute shops, eateries (many who are very dog friendly), and fantastic ocean views. If you feel like getting steps in, I suggest walking to the end of the pier and back. Parking is hit and miss. A challenge during the weekends, but plenty. Street and structure available. You can pay with cards, coins or through an app. It never gets old coming through. We shall return over and over again. read more

This afternoon at Hermosa Beach, the beach was just not where anyone should have been. Several dead birds were left to rot in the sun and float in the surf with no accountability by the city at all. Myself, along with other beachgoers, alerted the beach lifeguards about the situation but nothing was done to rectify the issue. I saw another member of the public notify a lifeguard and they were laughed off a bit. When I stepped forward to alert the same lifeguard about the issue, he just chuckled and said, "Yea, we know about it." Maybe it's just me, but I would not be laughing about what could be a serious situation with bird carcasses washing up every couple feet. The sand was also littered with a lit of trash and debris, adding to the uncomfortable situation. I would recommend staying away from the Hermosa Beach shoreline for awhile. read more

I visited Hermosa Beach recently, I hadn't been there for over 10 years. It's a very casual vibe on the pier with little shops to browsing. We went to a restaurant on the pier, a popular one but I can't think of the name sorry! The food was excellent and Service was perfect. Hermosa Beach is located between Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach. We parked over by 2nd St and Hermosa Ave close to Mickey's Deli. Tons of metered street parking if you're lucky. We were able to park at a 24 hour meter and it cost us $10 for 5 hours. You can pay with a card at the meter or pay on the app @ParkMobile. I love paying via app so you can add extra time as needed without having to walk back to the car to pay the actual meter. It's an easy walk to the beach as there are plenty of sidewalk areas and also a boardwalk with walkers, runners and bikers. Be careful when you cross the boardwalk as traffic can get crazy with the bicyclists or e-Bikes. The outdoor restrooms, which also look like elevated port-o-potties are located by 2nd street beach entrance. They have a sink area to wash your hands too. There's a nice pathway on the actual sand up to a certain point, for easier transporting of strollers and wagons. Then you're on your own once you hit the sand. Hermosa Beach is a nice and somewhat quiet beach which is usually busy on the weekends. For obvious reasons since everyone has the same idea! Nice beach with walking access to tons of bars and restaurants. We love Micky's Deli for sandwiches for the beach! read more

There are plenty of parking (ie., metered, structure lots, public and side street) in and around the beach. And they have time limits from 1hr, 2hr, 3hr or an all day). HB has an off white very granular sand beach. Plenty of trash bins as well as Lifeguard towers. It was my first time on Hermosa Beach. And my main concern was finding a parking spot given that this beach is very popular. I suggest you come early (7 am) on weekends. Overall, I enjoyed spending a whole day at hermosa beach. Hermosa is a very pretty and well-maintained beach, compared to a few others around it. We visited a few beaches while we were in Los Angeles, like Manhattan Beach, Venice Beach, and others. Each had their own positives and negatives, but Hermosa turned out to be our favorite. It was a little quieter and less crowded than Manhattan Beach and a little less bustling than Venice Beach, if you like or dislike that. I preferred the nice tranquility of Hermosa Beach, personally. The water was clear, the beach had nice silky sand, and there were even little seagulls that were brave enough in the quiet morning to congregate near us on the beach. Had a beach day with my daughters this pass Saturday to escape the 110 degree weather in Vegas. We decided to go to Hermosa. Our last trip as a family to Cali we had breakfast at Martha's on Hermosa and we fell in love with the beach here so we decided to come back. Glad we did. Took a little bit to find parking due to the AVP event, but when we did find parking and got on the beach we were able to find a nice area away from the crowd. The beach was so clean and Beautiful. We had a nice relaxing day. The high was 70 and we still got an amazing tan :) We packed a cooler and had lunch. Read our books and caught up after a long week of work. Hermosa was the perfect mom and daughter trip. We loved it and can't wait to come back!! read more

Way back when I was in high school my mom, sister and I would go down to stay for a few days during the summer. Now I just drive down, but I like to walk so I usually park by the Manhattan Beach Pier and then walk down to Hermosa. My sister and I visited on Friday, July 21st after our walk to the Hermosa Beach Pier from the Manhattan Beach Pier and we scanned Pier Avenue for brunch options. We ended up picking Bonaparte Bistro and we were happy with our meal there. Hermosa Beach is a great place if you want to escape the heat or just go to the beach. Hermosa Beach (meaning: beautiful or gorgeous in Spanish) brought back some fond memories not because of what you think. We were in Los Angeles years ago, and we spent some time there visiting family and friends. We specifically went to Hermosa Beach because one of my husband's acquaintances at the time lived there, so it was fun to visit. If you know who Dewey Weber is you might be my friend... So as pretentious and lavish as the lifestyles may seem at Hermosa Beach, the people are mostly down-to-earth. My ex leased a house three blocks from the beach. Parking is terrible during the summer, but I would not recommend a meter spot unless you're going to stay on top of it because you WILL get a ticket even if you're seconds late. The sidewalk trip from Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach Pier is nice. Walk. Run. Bike ride. Roller skate or blade. Skateboard. From what I can tell, dogs must be leashed. It would still be my favorite beach if it weren't for a few unfortunate events in my life right now. That's personal. I absolutely LOVE Hermosa beach! This is one of the best beaches around! It is also one of the cleanest beaches. The Hermosa pier is great! So many places to shop and eat! There are also restrooms for the public and swing for kids to swing on. And of course, the strand - walk way/path- for riding bikes or just walking is also great! My childhood Orange County-beach snobbery persists, even though I may not want it to, even though I know it makes little sense, even though I feel at home in and root for L.A. County, and even though I also feel quite comfortable in many parts of Orange County, if not its beaches as I once did. So what is a Beach Cities beach going to do for me exactly? Not a lot in my mind, but when I think back on my actual lived life experiences of spending quality beach time with my sister in Beach Cities beaches when we were both adults (as opposed to remembering that time when my dad yelled at my then 13-year-old sister because she "lost" 6-year-old me on Huntington City Beach even though I was safe all along, just bringing up the rear with my cousins Todd and Eric) and then about other quality Beach Cities beach time with my nieces and nephews (from both siblings) and my mom, I can't really say we didn't enjoy ourselves as people on beaches should. Sure, the swells weren't swell, and due-west-facing beaches are always runners-up in my mind to southwest- and south-facing beaches; but I did like coming here, even if the parking situations were complicated and/or expensive and/or too far from the beach itself. So Hermosa Beach--as in the beach itself and not the city. It's lovely, as west-facing L.A. County beaches go. It's probably better than that. In fact, if you want to spend an epic summer day, follow these simple instructions: 1. Pick up delicious sandwiches, deli sides, and other snacks from Boccato's Groceries (https://www.yelp.com/biz/boccatos-groceries-hermosa-beach). 2. Park somewhere near Hermosa Beach. 3. The best beach in the South Bay area. My girl love this beach. It is not that different from our Huntington Beach in Orange County. That is why she like it here. Lots of young people live and hang out here. Same type of young people we have at Huntington Beach. Young surfers and Volleyball players make this beach fun to come to all year long. Yesterday the air in L.A. woke me me from a dream from girl scout summer camp of my youth. The smoke from the California fires smelled like a scented candle called "Campfire". As the large orange orb rising through the combination of marine layer fog mixed with smoke creating an amber haze, the decision was clear... morning at the beach! I hadn't visit Hermosa Beach in years, perhaps decades. A couple of weeks ago I had visited Manhattan Beach. Ironically, I sold an outdoor fireplace last week to a man who grew up in Hermosa. He said that it's quieter because there is little industry in Hermosa Beach it's mostly residential. Here's the tip, on Friday's there are street sweeping no parking signs from 8am to 11am. Arriving at 10am we were able to get a meter close to the beach (see photo). Having been a girl scout, I was prepared with quarters for a three hour respite. We were the only ones on the beach for hours. It was so tranquil and the air and water were clean. We arrived at low tide which made for some pretty shell gathering. A great way to spend the morning and early afternoon. The silver lining to 2020 was L.A. traffic was light both ways. Hope to enjoy the tranquility of a few more beach days before the year is through. read more

This is one of the cleanest beaches I'be ever been to! There is play places for kids all down the beach, volleyball nets, and bathrooms. There is also a boardwalk along the beach and it's never too crowded. Also, the pier is great for everyone and it's very clean. This is one of the best beaches in the area. The more we come here, the more it is disappointing. There are numerous "karens" here in addition to bros. Things we have been yelled at for: not yielding to cars as a pedestrian, the dog not having a harness (we had a collar), playing in the waves instead of swimming or surfing. Kids no longer want to go to the beach because of so many unpleasant experiences. Also, there is a vocal group (although small in numbers) of residents who are far right-wing who fight back against any positive changes, environmental protections, or inclusivity in the city. At Hermosa Beach, I parked six inches past a painted parking marker due to the position of the car in front of me.  I ended up receiving a parking citation, and contested it.  The following happened in the administrative hearing: * I acknowledged I was slightly past my rear-space marker.  I also mentioned my reasoning for this:  at the time I arrived, the car in front of me was too far back, and there was ample space behind me.  I wanted to minimize inconvenience and risk to others and myself.  In other words, I thought the car in front of me would appreciate a bit of extra distance, as would I when leaving. * I pointed out that due to time of day (i.e., 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.), there was sufficient parking for everyone on the street.  Because of this, it seems the negative impact of my being six inches past my space marker was fairly small. In response, the City of Hermosa Beach's administrator: * Seemed interested in my testimony, and asked whether I noted the above in my request form for administrative hearing, implying it was meaningful.  And I had indeed noted this in my request form. * Presented no indication he felt my explanation was unreasonable, nor thoughts on why it wasn't valid. Afterward, I received word that my violation was upheld.  My belief is the administrator simply wanted to avoid discussion, and gave a falsely supportive impression in order to do so. I followed up by contacting both parking-enforcement supervisors who were named at hermosabeach.gov/i-want-....  Both ignored multiple e-mails from me. Ultimately, what happened in my scenario seems akin to someone receiving a speeding ticket for going 53 mph in a 50-mph zone.  The City of Hermosa Beach prefers to follow its textbook for short-term financial gain, rather than considering the attractiveness of and long-term value to its community. Also the widespread level of unprofessionalism here was remarkable. I will no longer be a patron.  If you are, exercise caution. read more

Nice beach, with a good wide sidewalk for walking, roller skating, bike riding, walking dogs. Not too crowded and metered parking nearby. There are volleyball courts. There is a little brick wall to sit on and to separate the walking area. Close to shopping, restaurants, etc. Cleaner than many other SoCal beaches. Love this beach especially during Spring, Fall, and Winter. Not knocking Summer (it's always great), but it's those other seasons that stand out. When the rest of the country is ankle deep in, Winter slush and snow, Autumn wet dead leaves, early Spring blustery wind only Winnie The Pooh could love; Hermosa will still be no jacket chill time. Okay, so maybe there's a couple of weeks in there when it's brrrr. Never-mind that. The beach is clean. You have the strand. Plenty of places to eat. And the pier. Hermosa Beach is a great City and the beach itself, adjacent to Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach is a great part of the South Bay Beach Cities. I know Hermosa Beach, and the Pier area after dark during the nightlife activities, has gotten a bad reputation for attracting party bus crowds with non-locals coming in all flavors including the arrogant hipster millennials most loathe as well as the trouble making urbanites most don't trust, but the beach itself seems to be family friendly. read more

Ahhh! What is there bad to say about Hermosa Beach except that it's expensive to rent or buy properties here--one of the most expensive places in Los Angeles County. Years ago when it was more reasonable, before more people discovered it, I used to live on the beach at 9th Street across from the Sea Sprite Hotel. It was quite a summer. Summer Concerts on the beach right outside my door, Volleyball 24/7, Cycling 24/7, relax on the sand anytime, the Strand right under my balcony, always a party going on, the smell and sound of the ocean all night, restaurants and bars on Pier Avenue, didn't move my car all weekend long, inauguration of 24 hour fitness on PCH when it first opened, Jay Leno every Sunday night at Comedy and Magic Club. It was a magical time. I should have stayed in South Bay--West LA Cities were never as good and way more unfriendly. Hermosa is transient, but there is a sense of community it's such a small city. I swear, people wanted to be my friend just because I had a place on the beach. As soon as I moved 2 miles inland in Redondo Beach to get a bigger place, the phone stopped ringing. There is magic to being at the beach I guess although in Hermosa if you live within a couple of blocks of the beach, when the Marine Layer is in, you will feel like you are at a ship at sea in a storm. And everything rusts. Rubber Bands last 1-2 weeks and crack. It's a unique feeling. If you have the chance to live here--I recommend it. It's a breath of fresh air to anywhere in LA. read more

This beach is so picturesque! Soft white sand, clean, and close in proximity to restaurants, shops, bars etc.This place reminds me of Carmel in NorCal except it was warm and sunny even in December. Of the south bay beaches, Hermosa Beach is the one I frequent the least and this past weekend, I found myself thinking I've been missing out! The beach itself is just as nice as Manhattan and Redondo, but slightly busier depending on the season. Professional volleyball games happen often during the summer time. The courts are already set up and ready for play. Not too crowded on a late Saturday afternoon in April. Lots of USC fans on this particular day, I believe there was a sports game. Bonus: Lots of places to watch any of your favorite sports team, whether those teams are near or far. Double check parking signs and parking meters. Most of the meters near the beach are enforced through midnight. Residential parking is limited to 1 hour only from May 15 to Sept 15. read more

Clean and never too crowded in the summer. But then I don't go to the beach too often in the summer. I prefer to go in the fall, winter, and spring when I can have the beach to myself. I don't know why nobody goes to the beach when the temperature drops below 70. It's still gorgeous, you just have to dress warmer. Parking seems to mainly be on the streets and metered, which is why it probably isn't too crowded on the beach during the summer. In the cooler months parking is never a problem no matter what time of day you come. I like to walk from Hermosa to Manhattan pier and back. Or sometimes I just like to sit on the sand and eat lunch. I pretty much have the beach to myself; maybe a few folks hanging out around the pier. Fresh air, the sound of the ocean, and clean sand between my toes. Hermosa Beach in the winter is wonderful; just listen to your mom and bring a sweater. read more

Didn't see a parking spot but luckily the day I went there was not much people so I was able to park in the street with no problem and even avoided to pay for a parking meter or parking spot. The beach is very clean and the waves are good which makes me nervous because we have 2 teen girls and still they make me Anxious seeing the waves being big but the girl's love it because they just dive in and their boards make the beach even better. read more
