How can anybody find fault with a beach? That's as great as Redondo and Torrance Beach. Redondo Beach is basically everything south of the Redondo Beach pier on all the way to Torrance Beach, which takes you all the way to the bottom of Palos Verde. If you go to this beach and you wanna get some good seafood, go to the far side of the Redondo Beach pier on the lower level that is where quality seafood is. This is my go to destination, and I love the ceviche there. No matter what you can't miss by going to these beaches! read more

Walking along the beautiful Esplanade in Redondo Beach. The Esplanade begins at the start the Torrance Beach/Redondo Beach border and goes to King Harbor ... home of many great little eateries to some very nice restaurants. Walk along the Esplanade and enjoy the sun, people watching from the scattered benches or just looking out over the ocean. You can also walk down to the beach and walk along on a pedestrian/bicycle path to enjoy the beach and ocean. Win win scenario. Beautiful. read more

02/15/2020 I have been at this beach quite a few times in recent years. On this particular Saturday, I am here with Heal the Bay to clean up the beach in a series called "Nuthin' but Sand. Although, this beach is relatively clean that some of the volunteers stated there are a lot of little tiny pieces of styrofoam. I don't remember if it was last year or the year before that residents found a body on the sand in the evening. I am glad that was not during our beach clean up. I am surprised to see one of the volunteers bring back a hypodermic needle. We do have containers for these needles so nobody accidentally gets poked. I was told that 800 people signed up and about 560 showed up to help. Altogether we rounded up about 90 pounds of trash including ropes that you find on fishing boats, couple pairs of shoes, glass and plastic bottles, and a few vape devices. I encourage people to stop littering because they end up in our ocean and beaches. I even witnessed a driver on the freeway ditching a cigarette butt out the window on the way to this event. Is it that hard to use the ash tray then toss it all out later in a proper receptacle? Just sayin', even soda cups and different straws on the streets end up at the beach. read more

The reality of it is, even tho I don't go like I used to, (i.e., every day), it's still my favorite stretch of beach on the best coast... Way, way back in the day, I learned to surf here, (Actually at Topaz), and as I grew to love the sport more and more, you would find me here for early A.M. sessions, either by myself or with my best surfing buds. Many times, I would take my bike and warm up with a ride on the bike path to Marina Del Rey prior to going out into the lineup. But... after breaking a femur, shredding a meniscus and years later, breaking my patella, (not once but twice in a span of 3 months), I just don't get out in the surf like I used to. That doesn't mean I don't still get all hopped up when I smell the salt air though. The really is nothing else like it. Sun, surf, sand and a breeze? FUC yeah, I'm there. The beach is always clean and in the warm summer months, well manned by lifeguards. I suppose my biggest complaint back then was the way us surfers would get shut down and moved south of the main lifeguard tower / headquarters. I understand / understood why, but that doesn't mean I had to like it, especially since the choicest peaks were usually North, not South of the tower. Parking is plentiful, (at least the "paid variety"), as long as you arrive early in the peak season, like pre 10:00am. There is some street parking along the Esplanade, but that $hit fills up quick. The lot will absolutely fill up on hot days such as those we've experienced of late, weekend or not. So if you don't get in the lot or the aforementioned street parking, prep yo self for quite a hike... Showers and crappers are available as one would expect and a snack bar is there to purchase goodies for the little ones, tho it's only opened in the summer months. Multiple volleyball courts along the beach, a bike AND walking path, (as mentioned earlier), that'll take you uninterrupted to the Redondo Beach Pier and of course, lots of wide open sand! Beach is notorious for sandbars, holes in the surf and of course riptides so watch them babies parents!!! read more

I've lived in several beach cities but redondo beach is the best of them all! The views never get old. Redondo beach is fairly large but the area that's the best is near the Riviera Village and on the street Esplanade. It's less touristy and a hidden gem for locals. You get total unobstructed views of the ocean for miles. You can easily clock in 3 miles walking along this beach. There's a nice walk way on the street level but you can go down the steep walkway or stairs to get to the strand or bike path on the actual beach. They renovated their public bathrooms, which is nice. You can pay the meter to park right along the beach or find free parking in the nearby neighborhood streets. If you're hungry, there's plenty of options in the Riviera Village. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to go walking. The ocean is at the bottom and you have to walk down a slope or the stairs. There's plenty of street parking along with a parking lot with parking meters and I believe parking is over at 9pm I can go in the evening without having to worry about not feeling safe. This is one of the beaches that I have never seen any homeless people or tents around. I'm not the biggest fan of animals and there are just one too many dogs around for me on the street side of the beach, I haven't seen any down in the beach area so I don't think that they are allowed on the beach or the sidewalks next to the beach. read more

There are restaurants nearby, a path on the beach, street and residential parking, but no pier or actual businesses on the bike path. It's not as busy as Venice Beach. (at least where I was by the alphabet streets) Still, a great place to hang out for a bit. We did see a restroom bldg by the lifeguard tower/look out bldg. read more

Clean non smoking/dog (no poop to step in) beaches, easy parking street, meter or lot, bike path not too crowded here on the weekends or holidays. Lots of groups meet on the beaches, AA, Beach Church, Yoga , Boot Camps & a very organized dodge ball league. Only wish Torrance Beach had a bike rental outpost. Sometimes my friends don't have bikes and it would be pretty convenient at the start of the bike path if they had a bike rental place. read more

Another good spot for running! I was brought here for a good 3-mile run and got to view the sunset one evening. Stairs are fun to use. There were bathrooms and drinking fountains. Pet-friendly. read more

This beach is bordered by Redondo Beach Pier to the north, the city of Redondo Beach to the east, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula to the south. It is accessible from the pier, from the parking lot adjascent to Veteran's Park, and along Esplanade. The crowd is mostly beach city locals on the southern end of the beach, and you get a more diverse crowd on the north end of the beach. The strand runs along the entire stretch of the beach, ending just north of the PV peninsula. The strand has lanes for bikes, as well as joggers. read more

I prefer the South Bay most of the time to Santa Monica and Venice Beaches because there's just a more laid-back feel to the area. Biking through Redondo and Torrance Beaches you have no real issues of running people over and the sunsets are amazing. You will also find a bunch of surfers in the water and plenty of reasonably priced seafood in the local restaurants and piers. Easy access and plenty of parking. read more

Never knew about this beach until I moved to Torrance. Has definitely turned into one of my favorite beaches because not a lot of people know about this beach. lol It's a pretty clean beach. Back when I was still training for half marathons, I would come here to run a bit (I need to get back into doing this). There are people biking around or skate boarding. Dog's aren't allowed on the path. Never too packed. Pretty easy to find street parking here. You can also pay 4# to park in a lot. Also a nice place to take pictures at. Will I back? RAT beach (Redondo and Torrance beach), it's where the locals hang out. What can I say, another hidden gem in the South Bay!! This beach is clean, let's keep it that way. It's definitely family friendly. This is also where dog lovers like to walk their dogs on the Esplanade while others like myself, enjoy a good workout, especially on a gorgeous day like the ones we've been having lately. There are several declining paths leading towards the beach from the Esplanade that makes this beach an ideal place to workout. If you time it right, you get an awesome reward at the end of your workout. Seriously, the BEST place to watch the sunset!! There's some volleyball nets set up along the beach and life guard posts. Also at least two public restrooms, I believe one near Ave C, and the other one towards the south side, at Surfside Grill. I came here on a weekday. Only saw a few people laying out on the beach. The waves weren't too choppy but I didn't see any surfers out in the water. I did notice one person paddle boarding from a far distance. If you go further south from RAT beach, you can reach Malaga Cove. Another cool place to check out while you're down in this area. There are metered parking on the Esplanade 5am to 9pm daily. No parking allowed on other hours. Free street parking on side streets (i.e. Ave A thru I). There's also a small metered parking lot on the south side near Surfside Grill. NUMBER OF VISITS: Many over the years since I was a kid. WOULD I COME BACK: Yes I have fond memories of this beach. I remember as a kid I would visit this place with the cousins. We would play in the sand, dip in the water and then when we got hungry, we would eat sandwiches, fruit, rice, or whatever our parents decided to pack up that day for our fun filled day. Oh the childhood memories of when the only problems we had were whose turn was it to ride the boogie board and if we should build a sand castle or bury each other in the sand. Back then, exercise, counting calories and eating healthy foods were not in the forefront of our minds. Probably because back then we actually burned calories by naturally having active lives spending time outdoors playing as kids and food felt a bit more natural rather than the huge quantities of food served these days in fat filled deliciousness. But whatever... I recently visited this place for more different reasons. You would think it was to lay out and soak up the sun because SoCal has had such beautiful weather lately. That was NOT the case. I met up with friends to exercise...yes... EXERCISE! It was a choice to run up and down the stairs and walk backwards up and down the ramp! I gotta admit...I hated doing it but the feeling after was great! They say you never regret a workout...you only regret not going. So yeah...on a Sunday morning I made the decision to get out of bed and go up and down them stairs! This part of the beach is nice. You'll see people enjoying the sun relaxing in the sun and dipping in the water. You'll also see a bunch of people leading active lives biking, roller blading, running, walking or whatever. I love SoCal! There's a bunch of nice businesses near by to to grab lunch, brunch, dinner, coffee, a massage or whatever. Come visit RAT Beach...don't worry...you won't really see rats. read more

This is my local beach so I cold be biased in my preferences, but, hey, what I'll tell you is the truth! This stretch is located at the Southmost tip of Redondo where it touches Torrance and part of PV. It is removed from all of the shops and rigamarole that blights Hermosa and especially Manhattan. This is just for swimming, surfing, and laying back. Parking on the street is not plentiful, but is is FREE. There is a parking lot that will not break you if parking does not pan out on the Esplanade. Your patience will pay off :) This place is beautiful, with a view of the Palos Verdes cliffs. The sunsets are AMAZING. Bring your favorite someone, and enjoy a romantic end of the day. No traffic, no tourists, just the way we like it! read more

Really all beaches are magical, there is just something about the sand, water, the salty smell in the air...its the perfect set up for a wonderful day to come. Fun for all ages, rich or poor, everyone is the same here. This isn't my favorite beach but it sure is nice and worth the stop if you are in the area. read more

Redondo Beach Park is a lovely expanse of sand with stunning views and lots of room for fun in the sun. I have never had a problem finding a parking space and multiple beach access points are really convenient. Today we had the beach pretty much to ourselves, with just a few joggers and families strolling along with us. If you come mind a long steep staircase or ramp to access the beach, then Redondo Beach is for you!! read more

I love this beach. We used to live a couple of blocks away from this beach and my son grew up going to it until we moved back to Northern California. We have moved back to SoCal but unfortunately the beach I lived nears sucks so I drive a bit of a distance to go to a beach that I fell in love with years ago. This is very much a locals area and you don't get a whole bunch of the tourist nonsense that you get at other beaches not far from this one! I am usually able to park on the street in an non metered area and spend a couple of hours and then head home. It does however get pretty crazy on the weekends I guess I should have stated above that I like to come here during the week when there are not as many people there. My son really enjoys body boarding here and everyone shares the surf well. Also, the lifeguards are really awesome and pay great attention and let you know if there is an issue like a rip tide etc. read more

My review for Redondo and Torrance Beach: Last time I was here in October 2015, Southern California was experiencing a heat wave so what better way to cool off is to come here. Run and do some cardio first as well as the Ave C stairs. After that jump into the 74*F water. That's right, 74*F in early October (which usually goes down by that time on a non El Nino year). The waves were rough that day and the tiny ships were toss, If not for the courage of the fearless crew the Minnow would be lost!!! The beaches are clean for the most part and there are plenty of spots to play volley ball too. Beaches and Harbor have been renovating some of the bathrooms which meant people been using portable potties, ewwww. Good thing too, hopefully it will look and smell decent rather than stinky public bathrooms you usually see in public parks. I like coming here rather than driving up to Hermosa Beach and having to pay money to feed the machines. I either park in Torrance Beach parking lot or somewhere else. read more

Nice place to come for a run on the "strand" or enjoy family time on the beach. Parking is plentiful and you can find free parking in the neighborhoods or there is metered parking along the street above the beach. There are also parking lots if you don't have coins - credit cards accepted. If you can go to the redondo beach pier, there are lots of food options you can enjoy a quick bite or drink on a nice day. It can be pretty crowded on the weekend, so biking here can be a little difficult since there are points where you often have to walk your bike. But there are designated bike lanes and pedestrian lanes, so that helps! read more

I cruised along the Esplanade today with lunch from Whole Foods sitting neatly beside me. I finally found a parking space, pulled in and shut off my car. Out of nowhere, two dolphins jumped in the surf, leaving behind white water where they had once been. I smiled. Apparently I found a great parking space. Of course, any parking space along the ocean side of the Esplanade is good. There is always plenty of entertainment from the dolphins to whales in the Spring to sea lions and pelicans. Then there is the wild side of things: kite surfers, sun bathers, swimmers and inevitably, a man in a red speedo. If that man resembles Abraham Lincoln, that's my uncle, and I do apologize. I love RAT Beach. It's one of the nicer Los Angeles beaches. It's always clean and (unfortunately for some) lit at night. It's rarely too crowded. Now, I know the unfortunate name doesn't sound like a clean beach. RAT is an acronym for Redondo and Torrance. For a brief period of time, I had the pleasure of living on the Esplanade with my living room overlooking all of RAT Beach. It was a little slice of heaven. Someday I will live on the Esplanade again. Edited to add: I can't believe I forgot to mention that dogs and dog lovers belong here too! There is a great dog park at the end of the beach! read more

While we were in California, we were brought to many beaches. This was probably the one where we spent the most time. It was just so relaxing. To me all of the coastlines were very similar. The water is nice and the sand is soft. You aren't getting carribean like beaches, but way better than what we are getting near the gulf. There are a few fun things to do on the pier and overall, it seemed like a very locals beach. read more

I like this beach because you don't get the ruckus of Hermosa and Manhattan, much more mellow. Plus I find the view of the Palos Verdes Peninsula to be pretty. One thing is that the width of the sand between the ocean and cliff is not as large as the northern beaches, but it is still large enough and clean which is what matters the most. Plenty of parking. I like coming here at night sometimes and enjoying the cool breeze as I walk on the path. Easily the quietest beach in LA from Santa Monica all the way down to Palos Verdes. You also get a really nice view from above on Esplanade because of the cliffs. Very cool beach. read more

I like this beach because it's more remote than the touristy locations like Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo. With that being said, you won't find too many restaurants and stores by the beach. You'll mostly see people working out since they have stairs here. I really enjoy going here because it's clean and quiet. The water is bluer than most of the other beaches in this location. The only thing I'm not too fond of are the seagulls. Ugh so many. If you have food, they will watch you and come closer, then try to snatch it when you're not paying attention. read more

My favorite beach by far. I love walking and rollerblading in this area as it has a long bike path. There are multiple ways to get to the beach as there are stairs hidden between the houses as well as parking by the pier. They offer numerous volleyball courts if you want to toss the ball with some friends. There is also a small park nearby which is a great area for those who love the beach weather, but hate the sand lol (I know some of those people). I just enjoy this beach overall because you get great weather, access to the pier, the park, and a clean beach all in one location. read more

I had a brief visit over the last couple of days here. My aunt and uncle (just deceased) have lived in Redondo Beach for 55+ years. My cousins grew up there. So, I was here for my uncle's memorial service. The first thing I wanted to do was to go to the beach. The water was so blue...and warm...and I got to go twice..and two different points. It was awesome.....enjoyed the brief walks along the water. The beach in PDX is an hour and half from where I live and the water much colder...so this was just refreshing and a wonderful change. Just what I had needed before heading back to LAX for my flight out. read more

Nice, and clean beach. Just watch out for fire ants. There's metered street parking (coins only) and 2 parking lots with pay stations that accept cards, it's $6 dollars to basically park all day until 8pm just leave the ticket on your dash. read more

What is not to like about these beaches? Close, decent parking, a great strand you can ride, run walk all the way through to the palisades if you so desire/have the energy. Hats off to you if you can! Cheers read more

This place is one of my favorite places to be, especially on a warm day. It's a great atmosphere and clean as well. The feeling of digging your feet slowly into the sand as the cold ocean water flows right over. You don't have to worry about much because there's always a lifeguard making sure the waters are safe. read more

I bike on the stretch of the strand between the redondo pier and torrance beach multiple times a week, I love it! This part of the beach is generally less crowded than the area by the pier, or torrance beach on the end. I suspect its because it's not conveniently located near a large parking lot. When we have a beach day this is where we always head. Even when the pier area is wall to wall people, this area is much more peaceful. Worth the walk/bike ride! read more

This beach is fairly scenic and a great place to walk and play in the water. It's really relaxing to be here. Last time I was here, it was Christmas so it was easy to find parking and walk around! There are enormous pelicans at the pier which are fun for taking pictures with. If you ever get bored of the beach, just hit the pier for some souvenirs and random shopping. Maybe the occasional churro. Whatever tickles your fancy. I have fond memories of this beach and do recommend it for those nearby. It's a lot better than hitting up Manhatten Beach or Santa Monica which are over crowded, but it's not quite as remote as going to Malibu which is quite frankly, a pain in the butt to get to. read more

This is exactly what I wanted out of a beach when I moved to California, and now it's my HOME BEACH! I love how there's a variety of places to park based on how long I want to stay ($7 for all day in the Torrance lot, or metered parking; $2 hr at Redondo Pier and extend your time by phone if you want to). The Torrance side is less crowded for just hanging in the sand/swimming. Or make a day of it and be closer to the Pier. It's a really pretty beach win views of the Palos Verdes Penninsula. The bike trail is awesome. I am so, so happy I can go here whenever I want! read more

It's quite the drive to get here but it's so worth it. This is more of a family beach and so peaceful here. It's beautiful, serene and tranquil. Close to parking, stairs and ramps available to get to and from the beach. Pet-friendly beach and seen a lot of joggers and cruisers riding down the strand. One of Socal's best beaches IMHO. read more
