Come in to see if they can help you determine a price for your gameboy, gbc, gbm, gba games. Their prices are pretty much reasonable when it comes to purchasing games for those systems. Do a little research and notice the prices are similar match up. Then go online or to buy, sell, trade apps to buy for less because who knows how much they are worth. Flip if you have to, get what you desire and want, every gamers knows this! I go here over going to GameStop. The deals are so dreamlike. I'm still exploring this area but I am never not impressed by the incredible customer service. First time in Ozzy was beyond helpful, third or fourth time which is today I met "the worst employee of the year" named Daniel! He not only helped me with my questions about my gaming counsels but went out of his way to help me with my go-pro and several other questions. Probably the laziest employees I've ever laid eyes on. Brought an xbox one in and the guy wouldn't even look away from his phone watching videos. He insisted that the xbox had an update and wouldn't even plug it up and check. Simply wouldn't even entertain the idea of plugging in the console to see, even after informing him that we live a half hour away. Ended the conversation by telling us that GameStop trades in for more. Wouldn't do business here when even the employees advised us to go to a different gaming store. read more

First, I'm an avid collector and I have been for most of my life. I drove over an hour to check out Player 1 Video Games and a few other retro gaming stores throughout Houston and Player 1 was easily one of the best. The two guys working the day I went were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and willing to work with me on prices and cleaning the games I was looking at. I finally walked away with a copy of Lufia for the SNES. You really need to check this place out if you're looking for old games and systems. I'm kicking myself for not buying the CIB Atari 2600! (unless they're already closed for the day, then go tomorrow) :P There are lots of new and used games, all platforms, but they specialize in older/vintage games that have a special place in our hearts. (Sega GameGear?! *squee!*) The owner, Mike, is a really nice and helpful guy. He's very welcoming, and is happy to let customers try a variety of games/ game platforms in store. Read what I say and heed it as much as you can. SHOP HERE There is something really wonderful about Player 1. Actually scratch that there are several amazing things about this place that should make you worship at it's altar. The service here is wonderful. You aren't pressured with rehearsed lines and sales pitches cooked up in some vacuous focus group by equally vacuous marketing execs. You go in wanting something, you find it (with their help or not and yes they are EXTREMELY HELPFUL), you buy it and you leave. Simple, clean and wonderful. The selection is staggering. How they cram so much into such a small space is beyond me but I would bet that there is some kind of dark magic involved (thats the best kind). If you can't find something, they help you find it. WELL YEAH GAMESTOP DOES THAT TOO JERKFACE. Yeah Gamestop does that, but they ONLY CHECK OTHER GAMESTOPS. Think about this real quick, they only have one location...You can do the math right? They understand that it isn't about selling everything they have all the time whether you want it or not, no, it's about making you happy so that maybe you might trust them in the future when they do have what you want. Just try and ask a gamestop employee to cross check their overpriced nonsense with a sensible online retailer. Pricing here is awesome and do you know why? Well I'll tell you! It's because the owner understands and ACKNOWLEDGES that places like Amazon and other great bargain priced web shops EXIST. He told me they crosscheck amazon to determine what they should charge for their stuff. Other traditional brick and mortar businesses do the traditional brick and mortar thing; price what they want, pretend the internet doesnt exist and use the excuse that it's more convenient to buy from them as justification for obvious mark-up wallet plunder. ITS A SOLID STRATEGY AND IT WORKS they'll say.....and yet every year another big retailer goes under.... Lastly it just has that local charm. It doesnt feel like a big faceless entity that is only interested in feeding on piles of money you have to fork over that other major chains tend to feel like. No it's more than that. It's an extension of ones passion and desire to move forward. The owner puts so much hard work into keeping it in the perpetual state of awesome that it is always in. It makes you want to get to know him, his story and his plans. Suddenly this building has a face and a story too. It becomes familiar and friendly and becomes part of your community. And then after a while, and this is the best part, it ends up becoming a part of you. Its this kind of experience that typifies great small local business and is exactly what Player 1 is. This place is Amazing! I go regularly and am always catching absolute gems! I've also traded a lot of games and systems here. Whenever I'm hunting around this is literally the first stop I make. Most of my collection for N64, SNES, NES, and game boy have come from here over the last five years. If you haven't been here you're absolutely missing out. This place is cool. The people are friendly and will gladly install a new battery on the vintage Pokémon games if you choose to purchase one. Higher in price than most game stores but it's worth it if you're into vintage gaming like me because they'll help you if you need help getting those games to function properly. There's such a great selection of retro games whenever the boyfriend and I stop by! The staff are super friendly and not over bearing like most small shops. They're very knowledgable and helpful. This store is the largest retro video game store I have found in the Houston area. I loved the selection of everything Nintendo from the orginal to the super and the N64. They had every title I was looking for and the prices were very reasonable. The prices were what I would expect to find on Ebay but I loved that I could try everything out before I bought it and everything was clean. I didn't find one thing in the store that looked like it was "garage sale junk". I left the store with a handful of great games, a large plush yoshi and yoshi egg, and a huge smile on my face. I came to this store based off the most recent review and all I can say is that I was completely disappointed. The review talked about reasonable pricing and a helpful staff, I experienced the exact opposite. They want 3 to 5 times what these retro games are worth. Examples include: $10 Kung fu nes $50 for Zelda: link to the past $7 for top gun nes ( of which they have 7 copies) $70 for an Nintendo 64 console The staff just sat there watching a movie and occasionally answer their cellphones talking with friends. If you want to over pay for games fine but you'd be better off going to ebay. Deplorable! read more

Although the store is fairly small and quaint, this is my favorite retro game shop mainly due to the large selection of games. This is the only shop I know if that had two walls worth of GameCube games and at pretty good prices. Nothing over priced above retail like other retro shops in Houston. They may not have all of the cute gaming knick-knacks that you find at other shops such as Nintendo candy and keychains and things like that but they make up for it in the availability of games. Also they bargain with you on prices which is a must for any self-respecting gamer shopping for used video games and their trade in prices are pretty darn good. read more

There are several retro video game stores in Houston and surrounding area now but I don't know of any that have been around as long as Player 1 Video Games in Friendswood. Their main employees and owner are very knowledgeable and easy to get along with. Some reviews are complaining about their prices but I can say they are fair retail price. Remember this is a small non-chain family business that has to pay rent, electricity, employees, inventory overheard, etc. If you expect eBay or Amazon prices at a small family owned retail store then you are nuts. That being said, again, their prices are fair retail and usually only a few dollars more than online. Some other retro stores are A LOT more than online. If you find something you think is totally over priced the owner has the flexibility to adjust prices via market changes, it never hurts to ask all they can do is say no. I have noticed during the past year they have started to carry a lot more video game items like keychains, plush, candy, and stuff like that as well as their excellent selection of retro games. read more

Really nice and knowledgeable guys, but VERY overpriced, especially on Nintendo items and other higher end products and consoles compared to other local stores like Game Over Video Games, Game Bros in La Porte or Game X-change in Baytown. Also the trade values are laughable as well compared to their competitors. Do your homework and shop around before you do business with this store. read more
