This is a GEM of a bar. Reminds me so much of clubbing/dancing during my San Francisco days as a 20 something year old. The bartenders are so so friendly, the musicians/DJs are talented, and the people who attend? Some of the kindest, most down to earth people you'll meet at a bar. You know there are immaculate vibes when multiple people leave their possessions on the bar top (cell phones, wallets) to shake their booties and you find em right where you left em. We went to Chicago Bar for a special performance of PD Ronstadt & Co and the Ronstadt Brothers. We'd never been to Chicago Bar before, so it was all new to us. Based on this one night, it came across as a friendly neighborhood dive bar. The music was fantastic and the bartender friendly. Place needs to be bulldozed to the ground and rebuilt, it's got the same dirt it had 40 years ago. The bartender is awesome the venue filthy. At least change the lightbulbs in your sign, owners should be ashamed.Gave it two stars only for the bartender. read more

We stopped by on Saturday night when Neon Prophet was playing. They don't start until 9 pm, cover charge is $5.00. The band had two singers, one more classic Bob Marley type reggae vibe and the other sang Sublime with reggae twist. They were pretty good and lots of people were dancing. The bartender was cool and just surprised me with his drink concoction. This place is fun to people watch! read more

Waited a few hours before deciding to write this review. The bar only had two customers when I walked in with my wife early afternoon. The bartender promptly waited on us and that was the last time she spoke to us. No offer for another round and no thank you for coming. I'll come back again for the music, but really disappointed in the "service." Nice place with clean bathrooms though. read more

Don't let the outside fool you. This a super warm and friendly place with great cocktails, beer and fantastic music. They don't serve food- so with the help of the bar staff, we ordered takeout. This place is a go to on a Saturday night. Especially if you like live reggae music and a good time. The drinks are strong and the bartenders are fast despite having lots of thirsty patrons to take care of. My only gripe is paying a cover fee. I feel like you pay a cover for a club, not necessarily for a bar because it's not like it has great amenities or anything. It's essentially a dive bar. I came here on Saturday with a couple friends and was very skeptical to go to a Reggae bar. It was empty at 8pm. By 10 it was full. Neon prophet was an amazing band!!! They're easy to listen to and drink to at the bar or dance go on the floor. The bar was well priced and the bartenders are amazing. I hate bars that don't have enough bartenders and this one at 4! I grew up in Tucson and admit, it's not my fav place. BUT, I visit ofter and need a place to escape the snobby scene of Scottsdale. The band has been there forever and plays great hits from today and the 80's/90's. The guys will actually ask you to dance and are not afraid to get sweaty. The drinks are cheap and strong. Here for a pool tournament. The bartender is nice and its a ok bar for a Wednesday. Prices are reasonable. $7 for a large pitcher of Bud light. I do like that they have Guiness and Kilt Lifter on tap. From what I hear they have like music often which is pretty cool. read more

A group of Jamaicans used to sell jerked chicken outside on Neon Prophet nights, but I haven't seen them lately. And what's with the ban on military patronage? Last time I saw a couple in their fifties in a red tux and valentine's dress, U of A frat kids, a guy with only two fangs in his mouth, etc. Bartenders are excellent but lordamighty book some new local talent. This is a fine venue and should be more of a stepping stone (i.e. real money) for the up-and-comers, not just the tried and true. read more

Good times and good dancing always at the Chicago Bar. I've been here on and off over a number of years but came by recently on St. Patrick's day for a night cap. The patio is always nice on a pleasant evening to chill with a cold Red Stripe. The floor is set up nicely for dancing and there's always great dance music going on. Had a really good time here last night but this morning I was disappointed to find that they charged my card $50 for a $10 admission. I guess they pre authorize all the cards for a specific amount I guess it would be courteous to tell your customers that. As long as I get my money back I'm cool. Cash only there from now on. I use to live here when I was single. I had heard there were new owners and was under the impression a remodeling had been done. The only thing I noticed that was no low top tables. Being short I like to sit in the low chairs. I can see why these wouldn't be popular because you can't see the band if you're sitting low. So, get up and dance or belly up to the bar & get ignored. If all else fails go to the ladies' room. Ok, maybe there was some slight remolding here. The stall-doors stay closed, Oh wait, I was there before it got crowded. Back in the day, the doors worked great if you were the only one in there but if someone was in the stall next to you, the force of them pulling their door shut caused your door to fly open. I've driven past this bar I don't know how many times, wondering what it's like on the inside. Well, my friends' played a show there last night, so I got to find out. It's bigger than it looks from the outside. The bartenders work their collective butts' off, most of the patrons seem to be cool people, it has a comfy smoking patio, and the atmosphere is pretty laid back. Imagine listening to great music, dancing and drinking beer with your friends all night, and NOT being able to get into the restroom! My in-laws wanted to go to the show with us, and with my Mom being in a wheel chair, I called ahead to make sure she can get around and have a good time. I was told that the bathrooms were accessible and they've had plenty of patrons in wheelchairs and never had a complaint. Well, I guess these people had infinite bladders and never had to pee. My Mom couldn't even get her chair anywhere near the stall door. Her chair is one of those svelte quickie wheelchairs that she could race in if she wanted. My father in law ended up having to take her several miles down the road, just to use the loo. On the upside, the bouncer was sympathetic and very apologetic and saved their parking space for them. Still, if you say that your place is wheelchair accessible, the bathroom better be included or you're going to have a pissed off disabled woman who's likely to run over your toes in a fit of pique. Other than the bathroom fiasco, we had a good time and would come back again for a beer, or several. read more
