The menu adds to that. Tons of meats and every Mexican option possible. Plus a well done kids menu and à la carte options for the picky eaters too. We ordered meals for six people right at lunch on a weekend and the food was prepared in under 20 minutes. Everything was so well packed for to go with generous portions. I was excited but it didn't last long. I would encourage anyone to try this place! Cool vibe for Monroeville. Maybe I was expecting it to be more like my go to spot. It was not. I had the beef quesadilla and almost choked on the first bite. Meat was cheeewwwwie! Cheese was pretty good, sooooo many onions! It wouldn't be bad if they were grilled, they were more like boiled. The Chips and salsa were just ok. My husband's order was wrong and he got something that he swears he didn't order. He ate it anyway, we're not that picky! My son enjoyed his burrito. Maybe it's because we were here on the later side of the evening on a Monday but I was extremely disappointed with my meal here. We ordered the birria rolls as an appetizer. These were more like undercooked chimichangas with tasteless and dry birria inside. I ordered the agave chicken which was fine but the veggies were greasy and there wasn't much of it although it was described as a "bed of spinach". We also ordered the carnitas platter. These carnitas were dry and also basically bland. The nail in the coffin for me was being charged over $5 for a ramekin of pico de gallo. Plaza Azteca is a must try!! The complimentary chips and salsa are SO flavorful- my favorite that I've had. This time we also tried the Baja fish tacos and they were perfect. The grilled fish with the mango salsa, the creamy sauce, and the crunch of the red cabbage were excellent. I also must say that I enjoy rice and beans but often times find them not very "worth" eating- this is NOT the case at Plaza Azteca. Their rice and black beans have so much flavor and are the perfect texture and side to whichever dish you choose. I can't wait to try more dishes next time! The service is friendly and the atmosphere is modern. The new location in Monroeville is pretty and also clean, the decorations in White Oak are more fun in my opinion but still a wonderful spot! read more

Quickly becoming my favorite local Mexican restaurant! This place was hopping on Friday night. We were seated quickly, & the chips and salsa were served to our table. We ordered our drinks and dinner. My meal was served quickly, but the server misunderstood my friend's order so she had to wait a bit, but the staff was apologetic and refilled our cheese dip for free. Upon entering I was impressed with the modern decor and cleanliness. Large restaurant , well lit and playing upbeat Latin music make you feel like you are at a fiesta. Food was very good from the free chips and salsa to our entrees. My husband loves seafood enchiladas and he tried theirs. Not the absolute best he's had, but he ate the whole plate clean! He said they lacked in flavor compared to his favorite place. My entree was the Burrito Texano ( lunch portion). It was delicious with grilled chicken, steak and shrimp fillings. I came to the new Plaza Azteca in Monroeville that was recently put in a building that once held a King's. I really like the upgrades. The restaurant has a modern Mexican feel to it. It is also way bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. The menu is also massive. I had trouble picking something with all the choices. The service was really good. I called ahead and reserved a table. From that call to the hostess, to the server. Everyone was friendly and helpful My wife went with the Barria Tacos and I enjoyed the Chimichanga dinner. The service and food were both very good. Up until the time to settle the bill the experience was 5 stars. However, we were not provided a check to review. The server announced the total amount of the bill and stood table side and collected payment. Afterwards, we were asked if we wanted a receipt. I prefer to review a check for accuracy prior to payment. Therefore, because of that business practice only, I will unfortunately not be visiting in the future unless this establishment modifies their current procedure. We were excited to try this newly opened Mexican restaurant. Alas, we did not have a good experience. It's an old King's restaurant that they remodeled, quite nicely. They have great looking bar. The drafts were served in chilled glasses which was a nice touch. We ordered the table side guacamole and got to watch them make it. It was a little bland but the chips and complimentary salsa were good. I ordered fish tacos. I'm not sure the fish was cooked properly and they were served with an overly sweet slaw that just overpowered the whole thing. Overall, my family really enjoys this new restaurant. One of the things that is great is that it is family friendly, but also a great place to come for a date night. I had been to this location several times when it was a Kings, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how fresh, modern and updated the interior was. There is a bar area and seating in the front room and booth seating in the back room area. There are always a lot of staff on hand and they are extremely friendly and attentive. There is definitely a language barrier issue with some of them, but if something arises, they make sure to bring over someone who can help. (for example, we had an item on our bill that we didn't order. Our server didn't understand our question so quickly grabbed someone who was able to help). The one downside is that it is a bit pricey. I was in a bit of sticker shock because it was more than some of the other local Mexican places. That being said, it was worth it because everything we've tried was delicious. The one exception would be the table side guac. It had all the ingredients, but somehow didn't have a lot of flavor. And I thought it was too pricey for the portion that you received. We had a birthday dinner here on a Friday evening at 7pm. I made reservations for 15 people with no issue. We were greeted and seated after about 5-7 min so they could set our table up. Our server Adriana and she was AMAZING!! She served us effectively and effortlessly. Our party came at different times and she was able to speak with each person and get their drink order in, and served very quickly. She helped the food runner deliver our food and made sure we had everything we needed. I love the setup of the restaurant and the decor. I do wish they would dim the lights during dinner service but it made for great photos! We obviously had a whole host of items from the menu. These are just a few of what I was close enough to taste. I ordered the Torta Ahogada Birria. Which is essentially a Birria sandwich. It was so so good! The consume was one of the best I've had. I also had a bite of different types of nachos. They were perfect!! Chips were perfect; toppings were fresh! The only let down were the Pina Loca. The dish was not served with chunks of pineapple, I think that would elevate this dish. It was served in one but cleaned out so well you could not scrape anymore to get a bite. Also, it was rather dry. It was supposed to be topped with queso but was just a slight drizzle. The burritos were also really good. And the best part of dinner were the margaritas. I ordered a flight. Which are half off on Fridays! The margaritas were perfectly made! I pass this place every day on my way home from work (at 5:00) and there are ALWAYS lots of cars outside. I mean, there are parking spots avail but you can tell its a good place by the business on the outside. Me and a friend finally went a couple weeks ago for the first time. I am a weenie when it comes to spicy foods so I had a couple options in mind to ask which is the most mild. The waitress (who was super sweet) said all their food is mild so everyone can enjoy it. So maybe if u like spicy mexican, u might be disappointed, or maybe u can request seasoning, I'm not sure. But I like everything about this place. As soon as we walked in, we said "oh look how cute it is", even outside there is a wall banner with beautiful pink roses, not sure if it was just for valentines day but it looks so nice. As I said, out waitress was sweet. I wish her name was on the receipt so I could give her a shout out but it wasnt.
