I have given high reviews of the restaurant before but this time around I was put off. Off the bat walking in is a welcome sign that says 5% will be added to your bill if not using cash. The service was very slow and we felt ignored. Sure there are lots of excuses for this but this shouldn't be when you see other tables being served faster. The food was good. We had a nice evening with friends and the staff were friendly but overall it wasn't a great dining experience. Service was slow, all of our dishes were served warm at best (mine was cold), only exception being the fajitas which were served steaming hot. I had enchiladas plus a taco. Not very flavorful and skimpy on the fillings. A lot of tortilla and sauce but very little meat. My wife had the chili rellenos and while deep fried on the outside the cheese inside wasn't melted. One friend had the dish that they serve flaming (can't recall its name and I didn't get a pic) and it was meh. The fish tacos also not a highlight. The steak fajitas were said to be pretty good. Also note, chips and salsa are not complimentary, they charge $3.50 for soda water and have a sign at the entrance notifying a 5% discount if paying cash (i.e. a 5% credit card fee). I'm not sure if this was just an off night for them or not but there are a few Mexican spots in the area that are consistently good (Plaza Azteca in White Oak and El Campesino in Monroeville). I've driven by Madero countless times but this was the first time my hubby and I stopped to eat here. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The food is delicious. We got the sopecitos (appetizer), fish tacos and steak fajitas. Also the portion sizes are large- we had to get takeout boxes. The servers were friendly and efficient. We went to dinner tonight, and after taking a bite of his food, our son found a wire brush bristle in it. We asked to speak with the manager, and while she did remove the item from our bill, there was no apology or real acknowledgment of the situation--she simply said "okay" and walked away. Madero Cantina is hands down one of my favorite spots in the Pittsburgh area! Having grown up in Chicago with a Mexican background, I know authentic Mexican food, and this place is as authentic as it gets. The food is top quality, the drinks are fantastic, and you can even customize your margaritas with a bunch of different flavors. My personal favorite is the Coronita Margarita, which is just a delightful blend of beer and frozen margarita you have to try it to understand how amazing it is! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff is super friendly, and while the prices are a little higher than your average Mexican restaurant, you can absolutely taste the difference in quality. I did order takeout and had a side of fries and i got a tiny portion of 12 french fries. Madero Cantina in Murrysville exceeded our expectations! This is a place we've wanted to try for years and finally made time to do just that. The atmosphere is like most other Mexican restaurants with dimmed lights and music. The service was great and we walked right in at 7:15PM with no wait on a Tuesday evening. We ordered the El Trio (chips, salsa, queso and guacamole). The queso was excellent - the thicker, creamy type but a small portion. I had the shrimp fajitas for my entree, they came out sizzling and cooked to perfection with sautéed peppers and onions. The fajitas came with 4 soft shell wraps which was plenty! The flavor and taste was juicy and plentiful. The fajitas came with all of the proper toppings such as shredded lettuce, sour cream, Mexican rice etc. Alex had the Tacos De Arrachera which were steak tacos, cooked medium well, and chopped into small pieces which fit perfectly on the shell. This came with rice and beans but he substituted it with the Esquites (Mexican style corn) in a shell and it was hands down the best corn ever. Stopped in with a buddy a little after lunchtime for a bite - really glad we did! The food was terrific! We both ordered the Barbacoa tacos, and they were the bomb! We placed an order for pickup on a Sunday night that included some tacos and chips with the trio of sauces (guac, salsa, and queso). The meals came with some rice. The order was ready when they said it would be which was great. The rice sort of cascaded all over the tacos by the time we got home which was a bummer. The tacos were decent but sort of lacking in the protein department. The real highlight was the queso dip. It was super yummy and very addictive. The salsa and chips were tasty and the guac was fresh. I'm thinking it's probably better if you eat it in the restaurant because the taco tortillas were a little stiff by the time we ate the meal so I'll give them another star to offset the to go factor. read more

Was slightly hesitant to try this place as I saw a 3.9 yelp review but I can't understand why. It was fantastic. Margarita was 5/5 not syrupy at all. This is my first yelp review lol so margarita is working. We got queso with chorizo as an appetizer and it was excellent. Chips are great the hearty fried tortillas. We got tacos and enchiladas both were great. I got a side of guac with my enchiladas and it was 5/5, very authentic. Service was great. Will absolutely be back. read more

Madero Cantina is best described as a Mexican restaurant with a more modern and American twist. Coming from a Mexican family, I can say that most of these dishes are not authentic, but that's no problem. Today, I went with my family to have an early dinner. Upon our arrival, we were immediately greeted and given a place to sit. Our waitress for the afternoon was very kind and gave us our drinks within the first couple of minutes. I wanted to order the "Sopes" but they were not doing their lunch menu today, so our waitress recommended that I get the "Sopesitos." I did just that and I was very pleased with the quality of their food! The meat options were delicious! I also had flautas and chips and salsa as an appetizer. One noticeable aspect of this restaurant is that their food is on the heavy and greasy side. My boyfriend ordered the fajitas and they were really oily but he still enjoyed them. If you have a sensitive stomach, I would be wary of dining at this location. Although this isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant, I would still come back and try more! read more

My wife and I were regulars at the North Huntingdon location and do miss the place and its staff. Yesterday (Tuesday) we decided we needed a "Madero fix" and placed our first to-go order from the Murrysville location. We ordered a few of our favorites (counting on some leftovers for the week): Mahi tacos, Pastor tacos, Sopa de Mariscos (spicy seafood soup), Sopa Cancun (chicken soup), a few different side dishes, along with chips and queso (we crave their queso). Unfortunately, the mahi was dry and the two bags of tortilla chips were so hard and stale that we threw them in the trash, leaving us to drizzle the queso on the dry-ish taco. That said, the soups were fabulous and just as we remember. Considering the relatively high item prices, we have to give this an "okay" rating, just on the cusp of "good." In the past, we would have given Madero a consistent and solid 4+ stars. We will probably give it another run just to see if we picked an off day (it happens to the best of 'em), but if it's like this experience, it won't be worth the price or the drive from Irwin. read more

Very good authentic Mexican food! Decent selection of drinks. Chips n salsa not free but not expensive... order the combo chips if you also want queso and guacamole. Everything tastes fresh and made in house. Cilantro rice was a nice alternative to the Spanish rice. The sides are very good. read more

They recently changed the menu and they got rid of my favorite thing... which was the chicken nachos. My other favorite thing to get is the burrito isla, but they also changed this. It use to come with salsa on top. The ambiance could definitely be better. read more

Worst service I've ever experienced without any remorse or attempts to make it right. I opted out of even redoing my food for a third time after my whole family was done eating their food already... that too was incorrect. Were born and raised Californias. We have been looking for authentic Mexican food for over two years. We thought we had come closer to that until all this happened. It's unfortunate. A definite good amount of loss of business from us moving forward. Not to mention it was raining and while we were "dining" the roof was leaking on my mother in law's head. I'm being generous with the two stars, one point is probably more appropriate. Not at all the atmosphere that I expected, the tables were very worn and very sticky. We used our napkins to not stick to the table. Service was slow and not at all friendly. We decided that we were just going to have a drink and appetizer and go somewhere else for a meal, trying not to be rude. Got the chips with guac, queso and salsa. It took quite a while to come it and the queso had a gross film over it, like it had been sitting and getting cold. The margaritas weren't even good, chichi's from the bottle would have been better. I recently went here for dinner with girlfriends. The last time I dined at Madero was back in 2016 and it was not a good experience. I was hesitant to go again, but my friends were looking forward to it, so I figured, why not give the restaurant another shot? Wow! This most recent experience was much better than the first. So as not to be too mysterious, on my previous trip, I ordered nachos. What I got was a plate of chips with cheese and steak... and wilted lettuce. They had seemingly put lettuce on the nachos and then put it all under a heat lamp. It was unappetizing and looked terrible. Not worth a penny. But this most recent time, I ordered steak tacos. They originally brought me chicken tacos, but quickly replaced them when I pointed out the order. What a difference this experience was compared to the previous! I will certainly come back again. The tacos were yummy, and this SoCal native loves tacos! I love that they have a selection of Mexican beers. Their margaritas are yummy, too! One downside to the dining experience was that their security lights/cameras kept turning on in the dining room. This meant bright LEDs suddenly flashing in your eyes. It seems the dining room lighting is too low and when a diner moves, it triggers the camera's motion sensor, thereby turning on the bright lights. If you're seated in the bar area, it may not be an issue. read more

First thing that I feel needs to be mentioned is that their drinks are legit. Most Mexican restaurants you can have several and question whether they really have alcohol in them. Their margaritas are crazy tasty and most definitely have alcohol. If you order the large, it is HUGE. This is a welcome find in murrysville. I love that it is different than most of the other Tex mex places in the area. The menu isn't huge, but there are enough options to please every palate. There are a variety of appetizers, traditional things like tacos, burritos and enchiladas and also a wide variety of entrees. Something I didn't realize is that some entrees come flambéd table side. It was an added surprise to my tasty steak and shrimp entree. The one downside is that chips and salsa are not automatically included like they are at many Mexican restaurants. They are absolutely worth it, though. The salsa is full of flavor and the chips are freshly made. Overall, a tasty, fun place for a meal. read more

My wife and I stopped here on our way out East. Being a Friday night and somewhat busy inside, we were seated quickly and able to order not too long after. We started off splitting guac and chips. The guac was excellent and had a nice citrus element to it. I wasn't as big on the chips used for dipping. For my main order I ended up getting three tacos with two sides of Mexican rice and refried beans. The beans and rice were alright. The reason this is a 2 star for me was with the tacos. Although I ordered the habarracha sauce for a topping, I'm not sure there was any added. If there was, the tacos were not spicy at all. The tacos ended up being extremely dry and hard to eat. I was trying to eat slow waiting for the waitress to stop by, but by the time I was able to get a side of hot sauce (at an additional charge), I had already ate 2 of my 3 tacos. Being a Friday dinner night I understand things get busy. The side of hot sauce definitely made the taco better but still rather dry. If that is how the tacos were supposed to turn out, I am not too interested in coming back here. Other people seem to like this place and maybe I would try something different if we came back. 2-STARS. We are foodies and Mexican food is very high our list of favorites ethic foods. Constructive criticism to follow: We had the Chicken Fajitas; 3 Tacos; Burrito Cancun; Tortilla Soup; Sopa Cancun and Chips & Salsa. Let's start with what was "GOOD": The Tortilla Soup and Sopa Cancun were delicious. We could eat these all day long. The ingredients were fresh and the flavors were authentic with great levels of spice. Next, "the AVERAGE": The Burrito Cancun was pretty good, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary. The amount of chicken and flavor combination of cheese, pico de gallo, and guac left us satisfied. Zero complaints. Now let's get to "the BAD" and left us scratching our heads, and I warn you that this may sound a little harsh. The fajitas tasted NOTHING like Mexican food. Nothing! The crazy thing was that it was very clear that they used SOY SAUCE!!! Yes, SOY SAUCE (as in Asian cuisine)! It tasted like a salty Asian stir fry, and (I repeat) NOTHING like fajitas, or Mexican food. Would NOT recommend. We also ordered the "3 tacos" getting carnitas, chicken, and steak. We ordered them "authentic" style with habanero sauce: All I can say is that they were incredibly boring, salty, lacked adequate garnish (i.e. dry and no crunch and the habanero salsa was undetectable). Although the amount of meat was adequate, we thought a chicken fresco soft taco from Taco Bell would have been better. We started our meal with the chips and salsa. Although the salsa was somewhat boring in the sense of lacking flavor and spice, the tortillas were downright terrible (to our liking). They were the thick ones and saturated in oil. I would strongly recommend replacing them with the ultra-thin crispy style and hold off on the grease. We were here about 5 or 6 years ago and liked it. I don't know what changed. "Authentic Mexican Cuisine" is cliché. This place needs work. Rey Azteca in New Kensington remains one of the best hidden gems in the Pittsburgh area as far as Mexican cuisine. read more

This is the best Tex-mex or even close solid Mexican in the Pittsburgh area. There's so many resturants that have a solid one or two or items but Madero Cantina is the real deal. Seriously I lived in Austin for 2 years and visited at least a hundred times. We started with their trio of dips. Queso, guac and salsa. The chips were crispy crunch and delicious. The queso, guava and salsa were classic. For dinner I had tortilla soup and a steak quesadilla and my fiancé had three tacos on corn. To add a little extra flare we shared a large mixed berry Margarita. Everything about the food was absolutely incredible. The service isn't amazing, it also not bad. The prices are fair and the restaurant is extremely authentic and feels like stepping into the many small Mexicans cafes I've visited. read more

Ok so i must say the decor and the ambiance is really nice... wasn't expecting it to be appealing to the eyes on the inside was expecting something more dark and dim inside... okays so the queso was good a bit pricey but good... the stuffed peppers were supposedly good i don't like jalapeños but my friend said delish, and the Velada wasn't bad but it was a tad empty... it was more sauce and peppers and onions and very little meat the fish was good and they were decently sized but all the other meat seemed minimal i didn't even have enough meat for all the tortillas... it was a lot of sauce/alcohol and peppers and onions... it was good don't get me wrong but very little food for the price... would def try something else next time and i def plan to go back i think my gf would love it. read more

We we're on Walnut for the arts festival and stopped in here for the first time. We went to the rooftop are to eat. There was one waitress and one bartender then a table of 8 already seated and a few more patrons then it got busy. I had to go to the bar to get my margarita that the waitress ordered and the coke my husband got had to be retrieved from the floor below and came up flat. We waited so long for our food that we left without eating. The staff of 2 were overwhelmed and no one from the main floor seemed to care or come to help. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I fault management for this. If they planned better for crowds related to the arts festival perhaps we would have had a better experience. We will not be back. read more

My husband and I were passing through the area and decided to use an Enjoy Coupon in Murrysville. We settled on this highly rated Mexican restaurant right off of Route 22. When we walked in, we were quickly seated by the host. The restaurant was fairly full with a bar, TV's, and a lot of seating on the other side. We ordered chips and guacamole - the chips were nice and crunchy but not greasy/oily which was nice. I really enjoyed the guac as it tasted freshly made and reminded me of my own that I enjoy making. It was a bit pricey but a nice start to the meal. For my entree, I ended up ordering the Tacos Al Pastor - marinated pork tacos with pineapple, onion and cilantro, and salsa. It came with two sides and I ordered the house salad and cilantro rice. When they came out, I was slightly disappointed. My tacos were not as full as I expected or as compared to what I saw on pictures posted by other customers. However the flavors were there, I just wanted more with less tortilla. The salad with the dressing was good and the rice was slightly dry. While at the restaurant I had to use the ladies room - located in the back, around the corner, and past the stock room (that you could see into). That was a little off putting as I would rather not know how restaurants store their products. The bathroom itself was not very clean. Overall, this was a decent meal. My wife frequents this restaurant for "girls night out." She kept insisting that we go together. I'm not a fan of Mexican food and she knows that. That is to say, I love to eat, all kinds of food. It's just that Mexican cuisine is not anywhere near the top of my list for dining out. Overall, the service here was good and prompt. The server check on us sufficiently. The margaritas were delicious and quite strong. My issue was with the food. There was an overpowering taste of lime. Some may like it. My wife does. I do not. They put lime on everything. Madero Cantina proved to be a really great lunch stop. They have several types of tacos to choose from, which makes me happy because I love tacos. I have only been here once but I am excited to come back for dinner. I ordered two fish tacos. They came with your standard refried beans and rice like every other Mexican restaurant in the world. The rice here though actually had some flavor and was cooked well. Usually I just poke those two side nuisances around with my fork roughing up the edges, but I actually ate a decent amount of the rice. I still passed on the beans. My tacos came out and the plate looked lovely. It's not a huge portion, but good for lunch, however a little pricy about $9.00 for the two tacos. Maybe I'm just cheap, I accept that. They came with shredded cabbage, pico de gallo and a creamy chipotle sauce. The combination of ingredients mixed with the fresh crispy fish was a winner. I loved the chipotle sauce, a little spice but nothing overwhelming. Service was also polite and quick. On my next visit I have to try a Margarita. Large quantities of good food using quality ingredients make this a really great spot for delicious Mexican cuisine. I was impressed by the interior design of the place and our service was great. Completely shocked by how huge the portions are, we took to-go boxes and I'm eating leftover fajitas today for lunch. Prices were on point for portions (burritos were MASSIVE). Highly recommend if you're hungry and in Murrysville. Just a quick tip to the business owner... you could be losing business from not having the correct hours posted on Yelp and Google. The employee I dealt with was not taking covid-19 seriously. When I went to pick up my take-out around 7pm on Sat. 2020/9/12, the greeter who handed me my food had her mask below her nose. After paying for the food, I said "you might want to cover your nose with the mask", she said nothing, pulled the mask up over her nose, and walked away. When I saw her 5 seconds later, near the kitchen, her mask was back where it bad been, not covering her nose. The receipt said "server: Alexa" so that might have been the person. Masks help reduce the spread of covid (the server could be asymptomatic but infectious). If the business wants customers to return, they should all wear masks properly. In my quick look at the interior, it appeared that there were at least 2 people at every table in the indoor space. It looked like the restaurant was more than 50% full. Yet the PA Health Department law is that restaurants are "limited to 50% of stated fire code maximum occupancy (25% if they have not self-certified)". Is this restaurant in violation? It took me two phone calls to place an order. The first time I called, they said "hold on" and I heard lots of worker noises for about 2 minutes, but with no response, so I called back a second time, and was finally able to place the order. read more
