    Wire brush in our food
    Lance J.

We went to dinner tonight, and after taking a bite of his food, our son found a wire brush bristle in it. We asked to speak with the manager, and while she did remove the item from our bill, there was no apology or real acknowledgment of the situation--she simply said "okay" and walked away. Unfortunately, due to both the incident and the lack of response, we don't feel comfortable returning.

Madero Cantina is hands down one of my favorite spots in the Pittsburgh area! Having grown up in Chicago with a Mexican background, I know authentic Mexican food, and this place is as authentic as it gets. The food is top quality, the drinks are fantastic, and you can even customize your margaritas with a bunch of different flavors. My personal favorite is the Coronita Margarita, which is just a delightful blend of beer and frozen margarita you have to try it to understand how amazing it is! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff is super friendly, and while the prices are a little higher than your average Mexican restaurant, you can absolutely taste the difference in quality. It's perfect for a date night or a family dinner. Highly recommend it!

Madero Cantina in Murrysville exceeded our expectations! This is a place we've wanted to try for years and finally made time to do just that. The atmosphere is like most other Mexican restaurants with dimmed lights and music. The service was great and we walked right in at 7:15PM with no wait on a Tuesday evening. We ordered the El Trio (chips, salsa, queso and guacamole). The queso was excellent - the thicker, creamy type but a small portion. I had the shrimp fajitas for my entree, they came out sizzling and cooked to perfection with sautéed peppers and onions. The fajitas came with 4 soft shell wraps which was plenty! The flavor and taste was juicy and plentiful. The fajitas came with all of the proper toppings such as shredded lettuce, sour cream, Mexican rice etc. Alex had the Tacos De Arrachera which were steak tacos, cooked medium well, and chopped into small pieces which fit perfectly on the shell. This came with rice and beans but he substituted it with the Esquites (Mexican style corn) in a shell and it was hands down the best corn ever. It seemed to be mixed with Mayo and melted butter with seasonings. I highly recommend this for a side! Cheers!

Stopped in with a buddy a little after lunchtime for a bite - really glad we did! The food was terrific! We both ordered the Barbacoa tacos, and they were the bomb! Served with corn off the cob and a tasty lime/cilantro rice, everything was great! The guac that came with the three soft tacos was spicey terrific! This was great, authentic Mexican fare! Will definately return!

Ain't my first rodeo here. Not our best visit. slow service, salsa not on point, and still upset about the beer selection. food was good and server was pleasant.

    Chips w/ Trio of Sauces

We placed an order for pickup on a Sunday night that included some tacos and chips with the trio of sauces (guac, salsa, and queso). The meals came with some rice. The order was ready when they said it would be which was great. The rice sort of cascaded all over the tacos by the time we got home which was a bummer. The tacos were decent but sort of lacking in the protein department. The real highlight was the queso dip. It was super yummy and very addictive. The salsa and chips were tasty and the guac was fresh. I'm thinking it's probably better if you eat it in the restaurant because the taco tortillas were a little stiff by the time we ate the meal so I'll give them another star to offset the to go factor.

Madero Cantina is best described as a Mexican restaurant with a more modern and American twist. Coming from a Mexican family, I can say that most of these dishes are not authentic, but that's no problem. Today, I went with my family to have an early dinner. Upon our arrival, we were immediately greeted and given a place to sit. Our waitress for the afternoon was very kind and gave us our drinks within the first couple of minutes. I wanted to order the "Sopes" but they were not doing their lunch menu today, so our waitress recommended that I get the "Sopesitos." I did just that and I was very pleased with the quality of their food! The meat options were delicious! I also had flautas and chips and salsa as an appetizer. One noticeable aspect of this restaurant is that their food is on the heavy and greasy side. My boyfriend ordered the fajitas and they were really oily but he still enjoyed them. If you have a sensitive stomach, I would be wary of dining at this location. Although this isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant, I would still come back and try more!

    Burrito Isla

They recently changed the menu and they got rid of my favorite thing... which was the chicken nachos. My other favorite thing to get is the burrito isla, but they also changed this. It use to come with salsa on top. The ambiance could definitely be better.

    Steak fajitas
    Lynn K.

Very pleased with the number of entree choices. I went with my standby choice, grilled shrimp tacos with pinto beans and rice. I always ask for a side of the habanero salsa to spice it up a bit. My date ordered steak fajitas. He really likes that their marinated steak is always very tender. They have a half dozen of ice cold Mexican beers and all kinds of good, strong margaritas.

After looking at the menu it seemed like a lot of good options but my go to for New Mexican places is a classic California burrito. Honestly it was the tastiest steak I've had in a while the flavors were apparent in this one, my lady got this chicken fajita and I tried a bit (of course) and it was delicious to say the least over my rice. Also, a great view of the ornate decor... anyone ever seen a glass pineapple of skulls as a chandelier Amazing food!!! Birria tacos were sooo gooey, filled with tender meat, and plenty of consume for dunking!! Elote was ingeniously cut into smaller pieces to share, swimming in a pool of delicious toppings, and sooooo fresh... for winter... not sure how but it was literally summer fresh. Empanadas had dough that should be awarded something. It was so flaky and balanced. Props to the team for propping them on a bed of lettuce to avoid the soggy bottoms! Salsa, guacamole, and chips... highest standard. I may come just to get these someday! Oh... and whoever found, invented, purchased the wacky wavy arm inflatable tube man... as a CACTUS!!!!!! Madero Cantina Norwin also had mostly decent reviews, so I gave it a try. I sat at the very nice bar. The atmosphere is modern, not trying to look like Tijuana, with clear background music that isn't so loud that I couldn't hear people across the bar talking. What I'm going to say might sound contradictory. My earlier meal was closer to the Mexican food I was used to in Southern California. But not exceptional. As a vegetarian, I usually start with cheese enchiladas as a way to judge a Mexican restaurant. The service was excellent, and they are definitely vegetarian friendly. Unlike "genuine" Mexican food, their refried beans are vegetarian, without the traditional lard. Their Spanish rice isn't vegetarian friendly (chicken stock used) but they have a vegetarian alternative rice. When they cook for a vegetarian, they use a different grill, so your food isn't cooked in meat grease. I know this because Jake, who served me, covered it all as soon as I mentioned that I was vegetarian. When the food arrived it looked great, and it tasted great as well. If you're looking for genuine Mexican with lard in the beans, this might not be the best local option. But I really enjoyed my meal here, and recommend it highly!

A Gem in Irwin! Gato…read moreTaco is one of those places we always enjoy coming back to. From the atmosphere to the service to, most importantly, the food, they have created something truly unique in Irwin. The tacos are wonderfully flavorful and anything but ordinary. Even the names make ordering fun--The Bob Dylan, The Yinzer, Hollywood, and my personal favorite, The Willie Nelson. With choices including chicken, fish, shrimp, pulled pork, beef, and short ribs, there really is something for everyone. The Willie Nelson is my favorite for good reason: tender short ribs topped with a vinegar slaw and their "Secret Weapon" sauce--a spicy, teriyaki-style sauce that brings everything together beautifully. It is an outstanding combination of sweet, tangy, spicy, and savory. We usually start with the chips and queso, and they certainly don't skimp on the portions. From there, it's on to the tacos--and we have never been disappointed. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and made sure our glasses never went empty. Great food is important, but good service makes the whole experience better, and Gato Taco delivers on both. The atmosphere deserves a mention too. It has the character of a 1930s speakeasy, with exposed brick walls and original hardwood floors, yet it remains bright, welcoming, and comfortable. It feels historic without feeling dark or stuffy. We love finding local businesses that put personality, creativity, and care into what they do, and Gato Taco is truly a gem in Irwin. If you haven't tried it yet, give them a visit--and if you're wondering where to start, I'd recommend the Willie Nelson! Great food, great atmosphere, great service, and a local business worth supporting. We'll definitely be back!

The two salsas, verde and traditional red were not good at all. They were overly thick and strange tasting. We didn't even eat a quarter of it and the tortilla chips seemed cheap. The grilled shrimp tacos hardly had any shrimp (or any filling for that matter) in them and the shrimp were very tiny with an overly sweet and gooey chili sauce on them. I only ate one of the tacos because the taste didn't leave you wanting more. At least I saved calories, I guess. We went there because we were going to a concert across the street. If I'm ever in the area again, I definitely won't eat here, sorry to say.
