Came to watch inside out 2 and it was amazing . The only thing I have to complain about is that the people next to us kept getting up and leaving and also the ICEE MACHINE was out . Other than that it was a great experience.

Such a classic downtown movie theater located right in the plaza with a few restaurants around it. Perfect for date night or family night. I love that it's not commercial like an AMC. It just is what it is. Has a great historical and local feel. They are always showing an array of different movies, and the Oxnard film club plays international/film-fest-style films here every 2nd and 4th Monday at 3pm and 6pm. Just what you need out of a theater. Snacks, drinks, and a chance to catch a great show.

These days if you live in Oxnard you go to the Collection to watch a movie at Cinemark (it's the cool thing to do). I like going there but living in southwest Oxnard, it's a little far (ya ya I'm just trying to save gas). I've only moved back to Oxnard a few years ago so I'm still getting use to all the new things around the town. So when I heard of a local theater in downtown Oxnard and closer to me, I had to check it out! I was pleasantly surprised. They offer the MX4D seating which is like watching a movie with 4d effects and as a motion simulator. I love that stuff so I had to try it out. All I can say was that I was blown away (but I do understand it's not for everybody). Plus I went on opening day for the new Antman movie and it wasn't crowded at all. You go to the Collection and it gets pretty crowded on an opening night. I also thought the price for the MX4D was great, especially since you get more experience than Cinemark with their more expensive 3DXD. I think I may have found my go to spot to watch movies in Oxnard. If you live in Oxnard and haven't watched a movie here, I would definitely recommend it.

    Is this open?

Hi there, per state guidelines the Plaza Cinemas, along with all movie theatres in Ventura County are currently closed. We hope to re-open sometime in the spring. Thanks for checking in!

Does this theater have recline seats in each theater?

Yes, slight recline except in 4D theater.

Buy tickets at the theater and save yourself the online fee. 2 small bottles of water and 1 candy was $17. I know they make the majority of their money from the concession sales but I will forever complain at those prices. However; I felt like $12 a movie ticket was pretty reasonable. The theater seats were comfy and ours would rock a little. It was clean and staff was friendly.

I love seeing movies theatrically. And this facility is clean and comfortable. Credit where credit due. The issue I have with this place is the customer service at the Snack Bar. I like my popcorn hot, and let me make it clear, I'm in no hurry. I will stand aside and wait to get in line however long it takes until I see a fresh batch is being popped. I time it so I'm placing my order and the popcorn is being emptied from the kettle. I smile and give the counterperson my order. I ask politely if they would please scoop up that wonderfully hot popcorn they just popped. The employee usually says, Sure! Then one of two things happen: Either they proceed to shove the popcorn scoop as far down into the popcorn receptacle as their arms will allow, and dredge up some lame ash barely lukewarm popcorn from the depths. Or they use the scoop to swirl the fresh, hot, newly popped popcorn into the already cooled off popcorn, squandering the opportunity to fill my damn bag with the freaking hot popcorn I requested. All they have to do is scoop the hot popcorn in the bag. Don't mix it in with the old first. Just put the damn popcorn in the bag, while it's still hot! So, yeah, if they could just accomplish that one simple task I would be rating this place a solid three stars. And I would be a regular customer. But I like to enjoy some hot popcorn with my movies, and I accept that that is never going to happen here. Your most earnest supplications will be denied. Consequently, the only time I see movies here are for special screenings. Often they feature screenings of random hit movie's 25th or 50th Anniversary release. I've seen several here, and I really appreciate that they exhibit them. Sure wish they would offer hot popcorn though. They'd be so much cooler if they did. I'd go to way more movies, that's for sure. I swear, I'd pay $5 extra for actually hot popcorn. Mikey C says: shouldn't have to, but would.

The screen is large and there are many seats so should be able to enjoy any showing. One Caveat for me: family friendly movies are usually shown at 2pm, so if you are someone bothered by young children in the audience who may not tolerate sitting still for several hours and who may be naturally noisy, than you may be better off going to evening 6 or 7pm movies. The seats are fine for comfort, older style with no reclining but not too dirty or thin in padding (for comparison, the older seats in the Regency theater in Ventura are much more uncomfortable for me)

They have fresh popped popcorn, hot dogs, candy, etc. The concessions are cheaper by quite a bit than the outside theaters. They only have one screen but it's a pretty large theater so can fit a lot of people. I've only seen it super busy one time. But they did run out of hot dogs. They won't give you an extra tray to split the popcorn so you have to figure out another way to share. The seats do not recline but are not uncomfortable. Overall it's a nice theater and you can't beat the price.

I'm rounding up from 3 1/2 stars to 4 for several reasons. First, because this is another stop in…read morethe Passport 2 History book, and the hostess was delighted to see us bring in the Passport. Kudos! Second, the hostess / cashier was extremely welcoming, informative, and gracious. She was happy to see us, which is always a nice feeling. She let us know that there was a group meeting down in the basement about to get started in 7 minutes, but that we could go down there to see a collection of weavings on display. We popped down to check them out. While not mind-blowing, it was a fairly extensive grouping of closely woven pieces of varying size and design. Back up on the main floor they had their current traveling exhibit of artwork from the collection of the Mullin Automotive Museum. The varied works of photography and paintings in various media are as striking as the autos that inspired them. Well worth experiencing for those who love the sleek lines and elegant components of classic cars. Having been to the Mullin, I don't remember the artwork as much as the cars, which suggests that highlighting the art is a worthwhile endeavor. Because these works were not the property of the Carnegie, but rather on loan, photography was not allowed. Up on the second floor, selfies only were recommended, but photos of the museum's permanent collection were okay. The current selections are of the plein air style, with emphasis on California subjects. Cornelis Botke (husband of Jessie Arms Botke, noted Ventura County painter) is represented with one of his landscapes. I thought I recognized the Botke name. Jessie Arms Botke's works are currently featured at the Santa Paula Art Museum. There is a fair amount of unused space, especially on the second floor. Portable display walls could be utilized to expand the number of works available to see. I suppose lighting could be a challenge, but they could surely figure it out. The building itself, in neoclassical style, was the former Oxnard City Library. It presents a grand facade in downtown Oxnard, adjacent to Plaza Park. Free parking in their own lot and adjacent streets. We saw a fashion photo shoot happening out front when we arrived, and it does make a statement as an architecture background. I understand that it's a popular place for photography. As we were leaving, the hostess mentioned that around the corner is their "Artist in Residence" venue, and suggested that we check it out. The current group of pieces there are mostly focused on photographs, and are vibrant, youth-focused, and often raw in emotion and subject matter. Worth checking out, especially for anyone who thinks that art museums are "stuffy".
